We had a very disappointing experience, and unfortunately, the biggest issue was the service we received from our server, Teka. I hope management has a conversation with her about customer service. The usual warm, cozy, friendly, country ambiance did not match the service. Every time we asked for something--even something as simple as a larger table for our party--the answer was immediately "no." It always felt like we were inconveniencing her, and there was never any effort to accommodate reasonable requests. The biggest issue came when our steaks were not cooked as ordered. Instead of apologizing or offering a solution, Teka responded, "We only have two chefs working, and if you want them remade, it will take a long time." Rather than showing empathy, she came across as argumentative whenever we had questions or concerns. Her facial expressions and body language made it clear that she was annoyed every time we asked for anything. No customer should feel unwelcome or like they're bothering their server for making reasonable requests. We understand that restaurants can be busy and short-staffed, but that's never an excuse for poor customer service. We stopped here on our way to Florida. It's your typical Cracker Barrel. Plenty of parking. The general store has all of the regular Cracker Barrel items. There is now a rewards card that earns points. Don't know if it's new, or new to me. The staff were very friendly, but unfortunately not attentive. I'm sure it wasn't intentional, but the service was not very good on the day we visited. They brought out things long after we requested. Some of the sides came out 15 minutes after the meal was brought out. No more cornbread? I didn't ask, but do they not serve cornbread or did this location not have it? My food was great. I got the Chicken n' Dumplins. The portion was so big I couldn't finish it. I heard other complaints at my table about their food, no issue with mine. This is for the Dumfries, VA location, 8/11/2026. I had the lunch special of meat loaf, mash potatoes and whole kernel corn. This meal was very disappointing. The meatloaf was tasteless even through it had dice onions and green peppers, the whole kernel corn was plain with no butter or seasoning. The only decent part of the meal was the mash potatoes; even the biscuits were tasteless and not soft. My three other friends that were having lunch with me also had complaints about their individual meals, country fried steak meal and Grandma Breakfast. This was my second visit to this location for a lunch meal; and it is such a shame that Crackle Barrel food has reached a 2 stars level review. read more

We recently gathered at this Cracker Barrel for brunch after my brother's USMC OCS graduation, and it was a wonderful experience. We were able to make a reservation ahead of time, and our large party of over 10 people was seated promptly--no easy feat! Our waiter was fantastic; orders were taken quickly and efficiently, and they handled splitting the check properly. The food was delicious across the board, but I have to give a special shout-out to the biscuits and gravy--so good! The ambiance inside remains as wonderfully "country" as ever. Since we visited in November, the changing leaves visible through the windows, combined with the cozy interior, created an ideal, homey feel for the time of year. Stopped in to this Cracker Barrel location for breakfast on a Wednesday morning. After looking over the menu - I ordered the Old Timer's Breakfast: Two eggs over easy, bacon, hash brown casserole, and biscuits and sausage gravy - plus coffee and water. A few minute later my server returned with a plate of food - but then proceeded to tell me the kitchen burned the biscuits - and did I want toast with the sausage gravy instead? I asked them to reduce my bill by subtracting the value of the biscuits and gravy. I was informed they were unable to do that. So I waited for the biscuits. I finished the eggs, bacon, and potatoes - then waited about another 10 minutes - and then the biscuits and sausage gravy showed up. The sausage gravy has no flavor. It doesn't taste like sausage. I added salt, pepper, and Cholulu hot sauce to the sausage gravy - so that it tasted like something. The eggs and bacon were cooked properly. The hash brown casserole also doesn't taste like much. I am beyond disappointed with the way I was treated by Teka at Cracker Barrel in Dumfries. From the moment I interacted with her, she was rude, disrespectful, and completely unprofessional. Her attitude was unnecessary and made what should have been a simple experience incredibly frustrating. I have worked with and been served by many people in customer service, and this was easily one of the worst interactions I've ever had. Instead of treating me with basic courtesy and respect, I felt dismissed and spoken to in a way that no customer should have to tolerate. Customer service requires patience, professionalism, and respect. Unfortunately, none of those qualities were displayed during my experience. I left feeling angry, frustrated, and shocked by how poorly the situation was handled. Well after three visits I feel I need to offer this. The food on the two previous visits arrived at the table after a long wait and was at best room temperature. Last night we ordered take out but when we got there to pick it up it wasn't ready. We waited over a hour and a half before someone told us they thought someone else took our food. Not sure what all the updates saying it was almost ready were about but what a disappointment. They appear to have issues to sort out here so it'll be a while before we return. We were traveling and stopped here because we're used to Cracker Barrel in our area. It was early in the morning, so it was very little people. The ambience is always the same in all Cracker Barrel's, nice and relaxing. It took about 10 minutes for the server to come out and take our order and introduce herself. Then it took another 20 to 30 minutes for our food to come out. There were people that sat after us and we watched them get their food and leave. Definitely frustrating. At least the food was good. All I can say this hit the spot! I came here after work finally after wanting some good breakfast for months! The main attraction was the hash brown casserole which they seem to be a little stingy for a side order. Lol. Or maybe I'm just greedy? But anyways another breaking star was the spicy chicken sausage! Woah! Man this was spicy! And I'm a spice fiend...wasn't expecting that much flavor and heat. This is a family favorite of ours and is what I call our "old standby." Basically, when we can't agree on a restaurant this one becomes the go-to. Honestly, not just this one but all Cracker Barrels. What sets this one apart from all the others that we've been to is good service and a warm atmosphere. During the winter, they turn up the heat and ambiance by lighting a fire in the giant fireplace that rests as the center piece of the dining room. Also, I can't tell you a time that we came and were not welcomed properly by the friendly and delightful staff. The food is delicious! We've had everything from the chicken fried chicken to the dumplings and from the apple cobbler to the pancakes with none of it disappointing us. Yes, it's a chain and what can one really get that is exceptional out of a chain? The food tasted alright though there were parts that weren't good the bacon tasted as if It was in WW1 and back, and I swear the sausage tasted like the dog treats I give my dogs (that should say something); the eggs were quite dry; the ham tasted like a putrid freezer-burned mess; they mixed up the drinks; the hash browns looked and tasted as if they were in a pool of water; the gravy for my biscuits was peppery (spoiler: it doesn't go well together); the eggs that were supposed to be sunny-side up the yolk was already busted and it was cold, I was supposed to get grits, but I never received them at all the whole time; the cornbread tasted horrible, it had no taste, it was overcooked, and it was quite bitter; the biscuits and fried pickles tasted amazing. The biscuits were soft and moist, and the fried pickles were addictive; I just had to bring some home. The service was good; my server was friendly and sweet and smiled the whole time. Server was polite. The coffee was good. The food was actually disgusting. I had a few bites of the special stuffed strawberry pancakes, the strawberries were good the pancakes were awful. It came with eggs and sausage. The sausage was hard as a rock, couldn't chew it but my dog ate it. I ordered eggs over medium, they were barely cooked. The waiter said I can have them cook them longer. No way I don't do that! Never return your food for further cooking. I thought well my dog might like them. Nope the dog wouldn't even eat them and he likes eggs. Lol I said ok I'll try the peach cobbler, I've had it a few years ago and it was good but no! I was really excited to come here, as I live far away and there's not a Cracker Barrel near by. I put my name on the waitlist when I was 15 minutes out, checked in, and was seated fairly quickly. In terms of service, this place gets busy so I understand when the waiter does not come by right away. I wanted to order some good ol' chicken and dumplins. My s/o ordered the country fried steak. When his meal comes out, the waiter lets me know that they weren't serving chicken and dumplins, which was already confusing to begin with because we came early. Wasn't sure if they just didn't want to make it, but fine. But also, why tell us when one of the meals was already ready? Decided to order the standard momma's breakfast. More than enough time went by where my s/o finished his meal, probably digested, and still no food to be found. I even asked two people for cornbread muffins and no one came by with those either? I don't really understand since, like I said before, we came early enough where prep should have already been done for the bread? Either way, this has been a very disappointing experience. Someone tried to address the issue by telling me to come back so they can "comp my meal" in the future, but I am very doubtful that it'll actually happen? Cracker Barrel- do better.
