I have been wanting to try this place on the recommendation of friends for a while, and finally did today! I am so glad I did! I ordered the French Toast plate. It came with two slices of French toast with just the right touch of spices, home fries, and homemade sausage patties (way better than the greasy commercial ones!). I also ordered a plain latte, which was excellent. No notes. My mom (who is 82 and VERY particular) ordered the "Uncle Richard" plate that came with two eggs, choice of meat (ham), home fries, and choice of pancakes or French toast (she chose pancakes). She also reported everything was delicious. ("Although I would rather have hash browns." Sigh. It's always something, ain't it?) She also ordered plain coffee. For someone who does not like to deviate from DD Keurig coffee, she thought the coffee was "Very good!" Widewater Grille gets its Cuban beans directly from Key West. Mom also reported the Women's Restroom was very nice. So there's that for your consideration. We will definitely be going back. Mom (who hates leaving the house these days) even called a friend on the way home and said the three of us need to go together soon. What a fantastic surprise! My fiancé and I were in town visiting friends and originally planned to go to Waffle House for breakfast, but the wait was crazy. My brother, who lives in the Stafford area and is a serious foodie, recommended Widewater Grill. Honestly, it's the kind of place you could easily drive right past without realizing what you're missing. We are so glad we stopped. I had Uncle Richard's Breakfast with eggs, green peppers and onions, bacon, home-fried potatoes, and French toast. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and cooked exactly right. The home fries tasted truly homemade, which is harder to find than you'd think. The coffee was excellent, served in a real mug, and I loved being able to refill it myself. My fiancé ordered the 12-ounce strip steak cooked medium, and he hasn't stopped talking about it. He said it was cooked perfectly, which is something even many chain restaurants struggle to get right. What really stood out was the atmosphere. The service was friendly, welcoming, and attentive. The restaurant has that local, family-run feel that immediately makes you comfortable. As a retired Marine family, we also appreciated the Marine Corps traditions and military pride displayed throughout the restaurant. Heard lots about the breakfast here on social media so we went it to give them a try. They were moderately busy when we got there, but we were served right away. The menu is filled with all the popular breakfast items (pancakes, omeletes, bisucits & gravy, etc). A sign says that they have the best coffee and I will say it was pretty good! We tried their biscuits & gravy and also their country fried steak. The gravy on both was rather basic and bland, lacking black pepper which we're used to in breakfast sausage gravy. The potatoes looked like they were nicely seasoned, but were a little on the bland side and needed lots of salt & pepper. The scrambled eggs were decent. Service overall was adequate. Overall, it was decent. We can see why they're popular, though we prefer a little more seasonings in our food. read more

I found Widewater Grille due to the Yelp app. Seeing that they serve breakfast - I had to check it out. I visited on a weekday morning. it's a relatively small place on the inside - but there were several open tables. I was advised to sit where ever I wanted. After looking over the menu - I opted for their Country Breakfast: Two eggs (over easy), one biscuit with sausage gravy, breakfast potatoes, and bacon, plus coffee. The coffee is self serve. They offer real refrigerated Half n' Half - not the scary stuff in the single serve containers that does not require refrigeration. The Half n' Half is in a fridge beneath the self serve coffee area. Food came up fairly quickly. The eggs were cooked properly, the sausage gravy actually had sausage flavor, and the bacon was crispy and tasty. The only thing I will ding them on is the finish on the breakfast potatoes - I like a crisp exterior on my breakfast potatoes - these were not that. Coffee was good. Service was good. After passing the Widewater Grill many times, today my husband and I decided to stop. It was about 10:15 in the morning on a Sunday in late November. We were able to walk right in be seated. My husband ordered the "Big Breakfast"pictured and I ordered the Western Omelette with a side of grits. Both breakfasts were very tasty the grits were stand out and very smooth and well seasoned. The Western Omelette was humongous and I had to take half of it home. The caramel latte was delicious. I nursed it for a few hours and enjoyed it immensely. Jeff said the coffee was good, but I didn't have a chance to taste it, it smelled very nice. A young man took our order. He was cordial and brought the food quickly as ordered. The owner was also working he walked by our table to ask how everything was, we told him it was delicious. He also was very nice. It's easy to pass up little places like this on such a big road as route one, but I urge you to give it a try. They have the BEST biscuits and gravy I've had in 3 counties. I know I'm very picky. Today I had country fried steak breakfast. It was crispy on outside and tender on the inside just perfect. The eggs were fresh, the potatoes were good and he let me substitute a biscuit for the toast. They have great steak, hamburger and sandwiches too. They use honey baked ham on their sandwiches. There's some parking out front but there's ample parking in the back. Drive slowly as you approach so you don't miss it. Now onto the food. The menu had a number of breakfast options (they also serve lunch and early dinner), including a small menu for kids. I opted for the breakfast burrito, which comes with scrambled eggs, your choice of protein, cheese, peppers, onions, and mushrooms. The burrito is served with a side of house potatoes, sour cream, and salsa. The potatoes are fresh and you can tell it's all homemade: the seasoning blend and the baby red potatoes are hand cut. My companion got Uncle Richard's breakfast, which came with eggs any style, protein, and French toast or pancakes. Let me tell you about the pancakes: some of the best I've ever tasted. (I asked one of the owners and he said they make their batter from scratch; you can tell and taste the buttermilk!!) The food was just absolutely delicious. Coffee is self-serve. I'll start by saying I want to like this place... While I give the food 4 stars, the service and pricing is 3-4 stars (clarify below). After seeing posts on FB, we gave this spot a try. Small but functional. Service is friendly, but expect to do some of the work. (See below) Coffee and food are both pretty good, though you may feel it in the wallet. Food: First, the good. Food was great overall. Eggs were cooked correctly, potatoes tasted freshly cut and cooked, sausage and bacon were well prepared. Biscuits were so-so, more dense than fluffy but the sausage gravy complimented them well. Pancakes and French toast were just OK, nothing too fancy, just average. They advertise the best coffee in Stafford, and they may deserve that title. Pricing: So here's one issue I had. Per several posts on Facebook, they advertised the Big Country Breakfast for $8.99 (great price that got us interested), but the menu and cost we paid was $13.99. For the 5 (2 adults and 3 small kids, 5 drinks and 4 meals, 1 was split) was close to $80 after a standard tip (though confused on whether we should have tipped as it was minimal table service). While the food was good, not sure it was $14 a plate good when you're talking 2 eggs, a potato, a sausage patty, and two smaller biscuits and gravy. Service: So strange service setup. We were told to seat ourselves. We were handed menus at the table, but you go to the counter to order and pay before receiving the food. We had to get our drinks, both coffee and fountain drinks were in the dining area. You get your condiments from a table in the dining area. They do bring the food to you but that's pretty much the extent of the service. However, the interactions with staff we did have were very friendly.  Location/Atmosphere: Small location off Rte 1, easy to miss if you're not looking. The inside only seats 20-25 people (tables set for 2 and 4) and may be a challenge for 5 or more depending how busy. Not much to the inside, and not much in terms of privacy to tables.  Overall, if you're looking for a diner type breakfast spot in the Stafford area, this is a great place to consider visiting for the food. However, price and the service situation leave less of a diner feel and you questioning if the food is worth it. You may find there are similar quality for a little less at other locations, and include full table service. read more

A hole in the wall right of Rte 1 that you'll pass if you aren't looking carefully for it, Widewater Grille was a great stop for lunch. All day breakfast was a hit. Steak and cheese subs were tasty. We only went once for breakfast (so this is only for morning) It's a wonderful family joint! The breakfast food was greasy, the biscuit was wonderful, the bacon and scrapple was crispy, and they had a choice of different juices, soda, and a plethora of coffee creamer choices for a self serve coffee bar. The coffee beans are a Cuban coffee made from Key West. We enjoyed our breakfast for this small, little location. It's right off the road and if you drive fast you'll miss it. It's a small mom and pop cafe, kept really clean but simple ambiance. The son was helping his father work with impeccable manners and work ethic and it was absolutely adorable to see a father and son all working together! It was busy and lots of to go order but efficient and we didn't wait forever for it to be cooked (fresh to order) so you know it's a crowd favorite. we can't wait to go back and try a lunch special! read more

It's a small restaurant and if you blink you could miss it just driving by in the Widewater area of Stafford. The restaurant is clean and cheery and well lit with fresh paint but has limited seating in the front of the restaurant and there might be is some seating towards the back of the restaurant near the bathrooms. The staff greets you when you first enter but beyond that don't expect to much interaction afterwards. You place your order at the bar area and someone will bring your order once it's ready and drinks are self serve, the fountain drinks are free refills, they also offer a few different beers also. The food is okay, it's nothing special and it's not going to knock your socks off either. I ordered the Big Breakfast Platter and it was anything but big. It consisted of 1 biscuit cut in half with a cup of sausage gravy poured over it, 2 eggs, 1 small Redskin potato and I opted for the Scrapple for a meat. The wife also got the same thing but she asked for bacon instead. Her only complaint was she felt the bacon was sliced longways as they were thin and it seemed they were passing off 1 slice of bacon as 2 slices. She did say the coffee was good though. I know people have raved about this restaurant but I think it's because there aren't many choices in the area to dine at and this has that "new car feel" to it. It's a very cute little restaurant and extremely clean! Seriously, it's like eat off the floor clean! The owner was very polite and friendly. We went for breakfast and I had pancakes, eggs, sausage and potatoes. The sausage was delicious. The breakfast potatoes were hand cut and fresh, not frozen. My eggs were made correctly and the pancakes were good. My only suggestion is to change the signage! Change the main sign to something colorful that grabs your eye when you drive by. We have driven by that place a hundred times and never even noticed it was there. There was a woman who entered while we were there who said she drove by twice before finding it to meet her friends. Highly recommend this place. The location of the restaurant and the exterior is unassuming (looks like a residential house), but don't make the mistake of driving by it! Went on a Saturday to grab a quick bite and tried their Cheesesteak. Wasn't able to snag a picture but that cheesesteak is probably the best in Stafford. It was more than enough food and all the ingredients of the cheesesteak are perfectly balanced. Bread wasn't soggy or falling apart and it comes with a healthy portion of fries. Service was friendly and fairly quick. It is a bit of hybrid between a sit down restaurant and a fast food restaurant, in the sense that you order at the front register but they will bring the food to your table if you're dining in.
