My fiancé and I were shopping for suits for our wedding coming up in August, and Robert in the suit department, was absolutely phenomenal! The suit we wanted for our groomsmen was a summer selection so not all of the sizes were available at the Somerset location, and unfortunately couldn't be ordered online. Robert took over two hours to assist my fiancé and I by calling other locations, all while paying attention to many other customers. He was the only employee in the department, but you'd never know because he kept everyone very happy, especially us! Macy's will definitely be the place we go for suits and dresses from now on. We really appreciated the excellent customer service and will encourage our friends to shop at Macy's as well! read more

I haven't been in this store in several years. Today, to my amazement, this once sparkling clean store turned into a filthy and neglected looking place. The floors and walls appear to have never been cleaned in years. The mall itself is still in great shape. Feels like walking through the bargain basement of a Bloomingdale's. The selection is bad, the store is cramped, and frankly many of the customers are obnoxious and rude. Thankfully many of the sales staff is extremely helpful and manages to keep a bad experience from being a nightmare. read more

For the last 14 years I am shopping at Somerset, Macy, and the last 2 years I didn't have anything good to say, until recently when I went again to return something and a very nice representative helped me to get a belt, I know it's not much but I was very surprised in a very good way lately. I had the best experience w/ the dress department ! I wish I remember who I worked w/, because they were beyond helpful! We were trying to locate a dress in a certain color and size and I called 3 other Macys and they were not willing to help me locate a store that had the dress. The person at the somerset Macys was able to help me locate it AND the dress was originally 250 and was on sale for 30!!! It was amazing!!! read more

I shop here often and expect better service and quality than I recently received. I like to go to Macy's because I can get so many things under one roof. When they have sales, you can find bargains too.. I truly feel the quality of most merchandise is better than going to a stand alone clothing store or shoe store. I was nearly mad during this past visit. With the cooler weather approaching, I wanted to pick up a couple new outfits and browse for shoes. First of all, there were more clothes on the floor than on the racks, I felt like I was at a unorganized flea market. Once I was able to round up some things to try on, I had to approach the woman at the register and ask for a room. Usually someone notices that my arm is overloaded with hangers of clothes and offers to start a dressing room for me. Remember this is Macy's, not the clothing department at Meijer!! When I asked her for a room, she looked at me as if I had a third eye!! Whatever.. I tried my stuff on, bought a couple things and decided to move on to look at shoes. Once again, I'm mad.. there were three woman standing at the cash register doing nothing but chatting about how tall of a man they would date..really important stuff.. I really don't expect nor care to be waited on hand and foot, but I do expect to be politely acknowledged and offered help. I think it's incredibly rude to downright ignore a customer. Perhaps they could tell I wasn't from Birmingham, maybe I'm not important enough for them to talk to me. They are very important, I'm sure..they are of course shoe salespeople at Macy's!!!! Pardon!!! I did see a couple pairs of shoes I liked, but at that point I wasn't interested in forcing one of them into a sale.. One more stop... I love my pressed powder compacts from Lancome, and I was in need of two.. One for my purse and one for my bathroom make up bag.. I saw nobody anywhere. I thought, here we go again... Much to my surprise, a man approached me!! Yes!! A man, in the make up department!! He was a true gem. So friendly and engaged in pleasant small talk. He asked me questions about my powder that I didn't even know there were options about.. He is the only reason Macy's is getting ANY stars - he gets five, the gals in the other departments were negative three stars!!!! Of course I'll be back to the store, but it'll be some time.. Women shoes department are horrible , I was shopping there and when I got in the line I heard some of the employees were talking about one of the customer NOT nice and NOT appropriate at all !!!..the same employe who was talking about the customer she was not nice she was not nice to anyone I asked her a question for 3 times about the item I had she didn't answer it she even didn't look at me she changed the subject talking about something else , i was good with her but I saw how rudely she was answering the customers she even told one of the customer like (What Do You Need )..I feel she just hate the customers for some reasons . So disappointed and not Professional, I got customers could be annoying sometimes but come on !!.. she should of respect people not bcz she's only working bcz respect is needed in the modern world to foster peace and kindness between all people. read more

I dressed as an intelligent, corporate black woman got the worst look from a so called "manager" named Christine, a very rude caucasian manager. She spent 20 minutes on an elderly caucasian customer and then walked off her register and didn't say "I apologize, the next attendant will be right with you" she showed no care or regard for our business. There were two other black women in line behind me. We all were quiet and poised and we were completely ignored. This was in the bra and intimates sections. This was unacceptable! read more

never before have i been to such completely and totally disheveled department store in my life. i only went through the men's department, from one end to the other, clothing was strewn across the floor, laying around racks, thrown on top of displays, and, it was clear, that mess had been there for a long time. there were salespeople, plenty of salespeople, but for the twenty minutes i was there, none approached me. they were busy, i overheard their conversations about their boyfriends, girlfriends, apartments, parking lot problems, oh! they had problems. so did i. i couldn't find what i was looking for, i couldn't get over the mess and i couldn't get anyone to help me. i did what any sane guy would do and left, walked across the mall to neiman marcus, accepted the assistance of a salesperson who greeted me as soon as i entered the department, purchased the clothing he brought to the dressing and promised myself, never again will i step foot in a macy's. read more

Honestly somerset macy's womans shoe department is the worst place to buy shoes, i came in at around closing and cannot believe there was only ONE cashier in the store, there were alot of customers waiting to pay for their shoes.... waiting on line we requested a manager and of course they went home, so this cashier her name angela not only waited on all of us but she did it with a smile and professionally, BRAVO however they should hire more sales people like her, and more managers read more

I tried Macy by Appointment personal shopper service at this location. The meeting was easy to set up online and the assistant called me to finalize time/date. She asked for my size & briefly what I was looking for (very brief). On the day the assistant was very happy & cheerful. She walked me to a dressing room where she pulled aside 6 or 7 outfit + some jewelry. The set up was nice, I felt special except the pieces were not my style. I was horrified seeing them at first as I specifically wanted petite clothes that didn't look grandma-ish. Most of the stuff she pulled were very old style but I tried them anyway. For 2 hours I tried clothes on, she was very helpful & always had smile. She got me different sizes and new piece as she understood my preference. In the end, I loved 2 items (not a complete outfit). She did not pressure me to buy, as they don't work under commission but I felt guilty and got more than I wanted. I will return few that I am iffy about. She even gave me free water & offered her preference when I couldn't decide between items. This was free service & I highly recommend it. I think our fashion sense were not on the same page because this was my first meeting. I will try it again with her and hopefully it will be more in tune with what I am looking for. If you hate the mess in Macy & have 2 hours to spent, try this. She had mix price item. If you buy regular price in Macy, this will cost the same. Overall I liked the experience but not perfect. read more
