If someone asks at the store asks you to sign up for a Macy's credit card, DON'T DO IT! I got one and it NEVER worked online. I called Macy's credit card "customer service" and was hung up on after a 20 minute conversation and when I called back, they didn't have "record" of my previous call. Seriously?! I ended up asking to be transferred so I could cancel my card (which took all of 2 minutes). I also hate their "coupons." They always have restrictions and limitations printed in tiny writing. I never can seem to use them for what I want to and several times the salespeople have been rude about it at the store. If you are going to have a 20% coupon, make it good on anything in the store, not just a few select brands. I find this store and Macy's in general overpriced with rude salespeople and TERRIBLE customer service across the board. I suppose it doesn't matter because I can never seem to find things I like in the store. I really only went there when I needed to buy my husband a tie or good shirt. Luckily he doesn't need those very often and I can easily go someplace else. I'm just over you, Macy's. read more

We were here yesterday to attempt to purchase an elusive watch. Happily, they did have it in stock at the counter, as sometimes their inventory system says they have it, but they really don't. The gentleman who helped us at the men's fine watch counter was very professional and patiently worked on sizing the watch just right for my friend. We made small talk about his comic book collection and my friend's watch collection while we waited for the watch to be ready. Everyone behind the counter was friendly and knowledgeable. My past experiences with Macy's as a chain have been less than stellar, but this particular employee made our experience very easy and pleasant. We would definitley purchase another watch from this particular Macy's again. -1 star only because I called numerous times during business hours to try to find out if the watch was in stock at the counter and no one ever picked up. This Macy's collectively has the worst customer service. If you need to return something that is large and heavy be prepared to haul it to the correct department. When I found a random cart in the store as I was struggling going from register to register asking for help and was finally able to return said large item the store associate then til me to return the cart since it wasn't their stores. I'm a big fan of Macy's, but this Woodfield store is not good. It is very large and has a nice layout, but the selection is pretty dismal. I went there looking for a New Year's Eve dress and was very disappointed. Most of their cocktail dresses were mixed in with the Juniors dresses, so the section was really disorganized. The dresses were somewhat distressed from being handled so much. It was almost impossible to browse through the racks because they were overcrowded and the hangers were tangled together. The Misses dresses were of a higher quality, but the selection was very small. In both the Misses and Juniors sections, I had a hard time finding my size because it was so picked-over. I love Macy's--I really do--but this is the last time I go to the Woodfield location. Better yet, this was the last time I go to any Macy's store. From now on, I'm only shopping on Macys.com. I've ordered dresses from their website before and had pretty good luck. The dresses are clean and packaged in plastic bags, so you know a bunch of teenage girls haven't been touching them. And when I don't like something I ordered online, I can just take it to any Macy's location to return it. It's pretty hassle-free! I'm not really sure why I gave two stars instead of one ... maybe it was because I still like Macy's in general. read more

The men's department for suits is exceptional, they are the best. Went there on a Thursday afternoon and even when there were quite a few people, a kind gentlemen and another lady helped me out. It feels like there are no employees in the place because every register that you go to in order to check out doesn't have a worker in sight. The inventory is lacking in quantity, so there is a shortage of M, L, and XL sizes, but an excess amount of XS. This makes looking for clothes here very annoying because everything is either XS or XXL. Prices are through the roof for simple shirts and pants, so I don't really recommend this place. read more

Glad I got a Macy's card!!! Impulse cosmetics is the one thing that prevents it from getting 5 stars. Two people working there, but one was unable to help customers with questions or even check customers out. Not sure what her function was. I waited 5 min before anyone came up to the checkout. When she finally made an appearance, I was told to wait since she wanted to ring someone else up?!? I think I will have to purchase my Cargo cosmetics elsewhere to avoid annoyance. That was today that I had this experience. Really need to get on top of this since most cosmetic brands have their own online stores offering a number of freebies to customers. Zero stars for Macy's if possible. Shopped women's department with no air conditioning, one fitting room open for the entire floor. One employee to work that fitting room. 20 customers waiting in line. Seriously Macy's? Only to make my purchase at one of the two registers open also with long lines and be asked if I wanted to use my Macy's card. I responded with no id rather use my personal credit card. I got a strange look from salesperson #11288579 who then proceeded to ring me out. I get home only to find she left the security monitor on my purchase. I spoke with a friend later that night venting how frustrated I was with having to go back to get the monitor removed and she laughed saying didn't you know, the sales people at Macy's do that on purpose when they're upset... I understand having a bad day but in no way does it warrant taking it out on me! I had to leave my husband who has cancer for a second time to have this security monitor removed! Awful service here. Every single register has a long line. We just have a question about a dress and no one who's not at a register can help. They just say go to someone at a register. The lines are too long. Then we found a lady at a register with just one customer and she looks at me and starts shaking her head and points to a sign that says she's closed. I ordered 2 beds and 2 mattresses online and had such a wonderful customer experience! First of all the customer service person who took my order was warm, patient, helpful, knowledgeable, and saved me from getting the wrong mattress because I misunderstood the category. She also suggested I measure before ordering the bunk beds I had chosen and she was right! They would have bumped into the ceiling fan! SO HELPFUL! Then, the delivery was excellent. The guys walk in and literally roll out a red carpet! They had those beds together so fast, including putting little cushions on the bottom of all the legs. The furniture is gorgeous and solid. There are legs underneath the bed itself for added support. I would highly recommend Macy's furniture and delivery! From the time they answered the phone until the time the delivery team walked out my door, the service was excellent! read more

VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. Had $10 left over in a Macy's gift card so decided to purchase a specific type of under garment for formal dresses. Found the same product at JC Penny's for a cheaper price. Went back to Macy's to ask if they did price matching. The lingerie dept. sales person said she did not accept JC Penny bought merchandise. Huh? I did not ask that question. I explained my question again. Same answer. I gave up. I'm not sure if she spoke English well. After such poor customer service, she had the audacity to ask me if I wanted to open a credit card with Macy's!!! REALLY?!?!? I went to another department to ask where the Customer Service Dept. was. The ladies behind the counter asked what my question was. I asked them if Macy's does price matching. The said they didn't know anything about that. They said I should go back to the lingerie deparment becuase....get this: NO CUSTOMER SERVICE DESK OR DEPARTMENT! How can a major department store NOT have a Customer Service Dept? I have had numerous unpleasant experiences at this store. In short Macy's in Woodfield is a dump! The store is in desperate need of a complete remodel -- the fitting rooms are beyond disgusting with ripped carpet and mirrors that haven't been replaced since the 80's, the bathrooms are foul and the store itself is an unorganized mess. The presentation of the merchandise looks like a garage sale topped off with completely clueless salespeople (that is IF you can find one)! I have walked around and around and around looking for a single person working a cash register to take my money. Forget about help with anything--a size, style, question, etc-- you could have died in the fitting room and no one would know. Lastly, their coupons don't work for the majority of the merchandise. Okay, I'll admit I'm a little biased because I was not happy about Marshall Field's changing over to Macy's. It took me about six months before I could even enter the mall though the Macy's entrance, so I'm not a huge fan to begin with. My sister and I went shopping at the mall and tried to find some clothes there and the quality just isn't the same either. Before this latest experience, however, I probably would have given it three stars. Here is why it now gets one: My boyfriend got me a new Coach wallet for Christmas this year and he wasn't sure which one to get so he just picked one and recommended that I go back and look around for another one just in case I wanted to exchange it. (On a side note, I was perfectly happy with the one he got me but it was a different color than my purse, so I thought it wouldn't hurt to look). I went up to the counter and and asked the lady if she had anything that would match my purse. She looked at me and was like, "Um, no I don't have anything that matches that because that purse is from, like, two seasons ago." Ok b!tch. You're like 60 years old working behind the accessory counter at Macy's so you don't have to get all snooty with me! The have men's wear on the first floor and women on the second. Find the branded section that fits your style and shop for the best bargain. My most recent trip here I was in search of some wingtip dress shoes, but they didn't have any. I don't shop retail often, the prices are such a turn off to me, when I do so well shopping second hand. I was killing time by being here, and there certainly was a lot ot look at. This has everything from mid-range to upscale brands, purses, makeup, shoes, even a Starbucks. It was nice to look around, although I thought it was totally freezing in there, and I'm not someone who feels cold often! I appreciated the music selection- Will Smith's "wild, wild west" played at one point! Sales weren't amazing, in my opinion but I did find an adorable dress on 75% clearance, so it was less than $11! The fitting room was well maintained, which I know can be a hassel, as a former department store worker. It was good to see what's around, but don't count on me to be a big spender here. read more

I was a really happy camper because my wonderful boyfriend took advantage of a really great deal, and that means I got new perfume :) Burberry Body had a great gift set deal, $100 for the perfume, a travel sized perfume and body lotion, PLUS...wait for it........................... a really cool Burberry bag........I mean really cool. Two down sides...I have to wait until Christmas for my perfume, and we had to go to the lower level becuase there was a really bad storm with tornado warnings. You can always find great deals throughout the year. For the customer service, it depends on which department you are in. The associates in the Men's, shoes, and cosmetics are always cheerful and happy to help. The associates in Juniors aren't always so friendly, and don't even get me started with the older associates in handbags. Overall though, the place is great. read more

I explained to Heidi what my needs were, she was very helpful, knowledgeable and kind. Heidi was able to give me explanations of how to use each product and their benefits. I purchased 4 items, my dollar total $99.00. I also questioned Heidi on future purchases for foundation and powder. Heidi recommended one specifically for my complexion and skintone. I went into "Macy's" (Marshall Field's) today to look at wedding frames as a gift for my brother's upcoming wedding hoo-ha. I browsed around and was eventually greeted by an associate who asked me if she could help me with anything. I smiled and told her, "Thanks, I'm just looking right now." Maybe 10-15 minutes later, I finally saw something that I thought my bro would like. I had to find an associate (the one who greeted me to begin with was preoccupied on the phone with an order), and spotted one who was mingling about the dish displays and not really paying attention to customers. (I later learned her name was J.) I asked her if she could help me with a Waterford frame I saw on a table, since I didn't know if there were any others. I directed her to the frame on display, and she did a look-up on the computer to see if there were any more in stock in the store. She told me the one on display was the last one. I asked if she had the box, so she went to look. She came back some time later with the box and rang me up. She really didn't have any personality the whole time I was there - it seemed like I was bothering or inconveniencing her. No smile, no chit-chat, no compliment on my purchase even, or suggestion of related merchandise ( = good sales tactics). She proceeded to wrap up the frame, which was filled with finger prints and smudges from other customers. I didn't say anything because I'm not difficult and figured I'd just deal with it later, but apparently she saw this, and moved to wipe the smudges and prints off with paper tissue. (It really didn't work, though, but it was nice that she tried.) She didn't have much of a parting greeting, either. I don't know.. it definitely wasn't friendly customer service for the $150 I dropped on a piddly frame with a big name. I'd worked in customer service and lower-end retail for 12 years, and I would be reamed if I had serviced a customer like that! read more

Wish I could give it zero stars. Took my wife there for her birthday shopping. She wanted to buy shoes. Found a few pairs that she liked but nobody would help her. There were a couple of macys associates around who kept on ignoring her. After twenty min of trying to grab someone's attention she decided to give up and not buy any more shoes from macys ever again. I am giving this Macy's a 4 stars because overall, the customer service in several departments is phenomenal! The customer service in the boot section of women's shoes is the best that I have ever seen. I got super lucky, and didn't have to wait around once to try on boots. Thanks for great customer service in that department. The other reason I give this Macy's a 4 is because of it's MAC section. I love Lindsey in the MAC department... she actually took the time out of her busy day (It was a Saturday and I think homecoming was going on), and was able to show me how the eye shadows, concealer, foundation, blushes, and brushes all worked together. I never felt pressured to purchase anything that I didn't want or need... so thank you to those two departments in the store! read more
