Best Macy's I've been to outside of NYC. Absolutely love this Macy's I've been to a few Macy's in the San Francisco San Jose area it but this is the first time I have gone to this one and this one is by far the best, downside is parking in the garage cost me $15 for three hours next time I'll park at my hotel and just catch public transportation. There were great sales going on I have bought a $300 dress for $112 plus if you tell them you are from out of town you get a extra 10% off coupon off all your purchases except of course fine jewelry, make up and perfume's the. This Macy's is clean the isles it clear the staff you could actually find somebody to help you when you need help and plan for at least three hours in that store because they are just so many levels of so many things going on and this is the first time I went to a Macy's where the plus size clothes department was not in the basement it annoys me when stores put plus size clothes in the basement. like what's up with that with fat people have to be hidden from view so you stick our section in the friggin basement anyway go to this Macy's is the best. Yikes what happened to Macy's Union Square! The remodel is complete and the store has been transferred into a bad JC Penney. The store is just racks and racks of crap stuffed in a ghost of the former footprint. Staff and Managers are disgruntled ( when a department manager is peeved enough to explain that he can't even afford to buy a decent suit because of low pay. Something is really wrong. All happening during Dreamforce/ 1 week before Black Friday ). A trip to SF should be worth the hassle and a visit to a flagship department store on Union Square at Christmas should be magic. I usually don't shop at Macy's because they are a bit spendy for me but recently received a gift card as a gift and needed stuff for a new residence. I tried to use the gift card on line but it did not work, so I called and got through to a woman who said, "yes the card will not work, but she could transfer the balance to my visa." After about an hour of her processing this I asked again about the transfer and she reassured me it was ok and the remainder of the balance would also be transferred ($100 in total). I got rid of the card after the transaction since she confirmed the transaction and am trying to get organized after a large move. I recently received my bill and of course there is no credit, so I called and she said "unfortunately there are no notes so I can't do anything." I guess there's a reason I don't shop at Macys and never will again. Sad - no wonder these stores aren't making it......disappointing at best. read more

We had to go here, because it is a seven story Macy's. We thought surely, at least THIS one would be nice, and not overpriced, divey, like the other ones have become. But we were wrong. Macy's is definitely the new K-mart. What a shame. I must convince my love to stop shopping there. The sale price is the real price, and it is no bargain, no matter how they make it look. Huge and well stocked Macy's with lots of staff and security helping. One crazy guy kept asking for someone to help him otherwise this place was safe. Seems like everything is on sale for 50% off which makes me think they are happy with the 50% pricing and really happy for the full price sales. This Macy's hands down has the largest shoe selection of any other store. It's the only good store to get exactly what your looking for. A lot of my gal pals don't get what a great place this is for occasion dresses. My daughters have attended a ton of weddings last spring/ summer and I kept repeating to them, try Macy's!! I also love the jewelry collections and designer purses. I've purchased a new home today ! yay! So I'll be swinging by the linen department soon. The Macy's off union Square is one of those iconic classic department stores that I usually associate with Christmas shopping visits in my youth. As a grown man, Macy's still has some charm and a good selection of brands, but it's kind of hard to get excited about their prices and mark ups when you go someplace like Nordstrom Rack on a regular basis. It's also located in the heart of a seemingly endless construction one in the middle of the city, making it not so convenient, with a men's department that is hidden up at the top of six flights of escalators. However, when you do find what you're looking for you'll usually be assisted by some friendly, helpful staff members, and they've never been out of my sizes. read more

Gargantuan doesn't begin to describe the size of this place! Absolutely so well organized I get why they have an entire cafeteria in the basement. When I first saw other stores I was at a gasp at how large they are and then I entered into Macy's and saw how large it was. They have every brand you could imagine and great deals all the time. It is absolutely unbelievable how much this place has to offer. Before it was go Texas and everything is big there but that completely applies more to this place. So if your looking for a one stop and shop place in San Fran defiantly come here instead of the one by one store. You literally can shop here all day and grab a bite to eat in the basement. From low end to high end brand all well organized all over the store I think you will be well satisfied if this is the only store you walk into when visiting the city. Macy's is having a 40% off sale, so I went in. An hour before closing, I couldn't buy anything because all the registers on the 3rd and 4th floor were closed except for one, and that poor overworked staffer said she was closing after the person before me. They're understaffed to the point that you cannot find a sales associate on the floor. Good luck finding things- even the one checking people out said "just look around" because everything had moved and she doesn't normally work on that floor. If this Macy's wants to sell things and survive, at least have an open register! read more

It's little wonder Macy's are struggling. I've been walking around for 30 minutes trying to pay for approx 400 dollars worth of clothing. Two registers open in the men's store - I waited behind one person being served at one and despite having only one item, I gave up after 10 minutes. Service is worse than pathetic. The top floor workers are scumbags and complete trash. The lady told me to leave the line and go to the other register. She didn't want to take any more customers. I was okay with that. Horrible service at the jewelry department. I knew sales staff would be stuck up so thought I could skip them by buying online and doing a pick up. Boy was wrong. One lady doing nothing said she would come over to help but just walked away. There was only one woman who was actually busy and helping customers and after helping them came over to assist me. Walked here from my hotel at Virgin. Now that place is great! But this review isn't about Virgin hotels so, onward we go. I entered at the Folsom street entrance. It brought me into the fragrance department. From there I asked the lady at the Gaultier fragrance counter for assistance finding apparel. In that brief moment a homeless man scoops up an armful of cologne samples bottles at the next counter over while the cashier tries to stop him, shouting for the police officer who rushes over to help. So turns out, apparel is on the 4th floor. I spent a good while shopping and found a lot. The true shame of the whole trip was the customer service. At least in the fragrance department the sales rewere present and helpful even in the face of challenges. The lack of customer service is in apparel was appalling. ESPECIALLY in INC., the Macy's exclusive. For instance, Mary in INC couldn't be bothered to look up a price of an INC item. She had no other customers but her feet were cemented at the cash register for fear of burning calories to assist a customer to find an item (face palm AND smh!). read more

I love this Macy's location. They have a great selection of merchandise, including a home store which some stores don't have. Everything is neat and orderly (not rummaged through and messy like some other stores). The windows are always beautifully decorated during the holidays. Their Starbucks has a great view overlooking Union Square and their online order pickup is super organized and convenient. The Cheesecake Factory occupies the rooftop for outdoor dining which also has amazing views. Can't beat the location. There are so many great restaurants and shops nearby if you want to spend the day shopping or exploring with friends. read more

This Macy's has almost everything since it is the large macy's that you would find in the US, but it is not the largest of all since New York Macy's is compared to this. Hard to understand how something can be "in stock" when ordered, then only to be told it'll be a month. Then two. Then four. Then "the warehouse isn't responding to us". And "I don't know why that $2000 random charge just appeared on your credit card...must be a mistake". My online order was stolen from my doorstep. The thief promptly took it to Macy's Union Square and was able to get a $312 refund onto a gift card without ID or original credit card. They enjoyed a spending spree on 1/9/21 on my dime. Macy's return policy for online orders requires the packing slip AND the original form of payment. An extremely disorganized and understaffed store. Do you like treasure hunts? Easter egg hunts? Then this is your store. Good luck finding what you want. Take for example the Ralph Lauren men's section. Do you want to buy a sweater you saw online? Let the treasure hunt begin. Macy's has managed to spread the sweaters all over the place and hidden them in little nooks and crannies. "I like what that mannequin has on" you say. The same item should be fairly close by then? But no. It's no where close. Let the search begin. Want to buy a jacket? Expect them all to be together in one section? Nope. They are all over the place. Price check scanners? Nowhere to be found. Does the price scanner on the Macy's app work? Nope. Can the staff help you find something. Nope (although I don't blame them - there's like one guy running the entire floor from the looks of it; there was no reason for him to be rude though but I get it). With such a big store right next to union square you'd think they'd have some care with organizing and staffing, especially during the holiday season. My backpack got robbed here. I left my backpack on the floor unattended for 10 minutes, which is my responsibility. Sadly, the backpack contained over $500+ in personal goods. This review is about how Macy's handle these things. There were some rude employees, but Daniel in the Polo section was very cool and asked security to look at the cameras. Security looked at the cameras but that did not help -- they said they could not see the backpack on a blind spot or something. Calling Macy's a day after to check if they had found it was a nightmare. I needed to run through a lot of menus to be able to speak with someone. The lady that answered said she was the Lost and Found section, and she was extremely rude. To add to that, after my first call, I never managed to talk to Macy's again. I tried every line, and people just hang up before talking to me -- was my cellphone added to some kind of blacklist? All in all, the experience of getting support for a stolen item was terrible. And the fact that it took 10 minutes for the backpack to disappear shows how dangerous the store is! read more

I love a good mall. While I had some time after brunch before heading to a baseball game I saw Macy's was in walking distance. What I didn't realize that this Macy's was like 5 stories tall! I could wander for hours! So many options! So many sales associates to help me! And my favorite, so many sales opportunities! I forgot to pack a very heavy jacket on my trip (Florida girl mistake). I went to Macy's firday 3-5-21 around 4 p.m to check out Ked's white tennis shoes and after searching, I asked a salesperson on the floor. He was vey nice and told me they don't carry that brand anymore. So, I searched for similar white tennis shoes and couldn't find one brand I liked. That alarmed "security" I guess because they send a large woman dressed in dark grey to keep an eye on me, which made me feel very uncomfortable so I left. If I have to rush when I shop, I am not interested. This is the second time this happened at this Macy's. They get suspicious If you look too long for an item or if you stand in the wrong section. I don't like shopping somewhere where I am watched closely on camera. I think they loose customers being over-zealous and paranoid, especially in a shoe section when only one shoe of each model is displayed ! Why would anyone steal only one shoe ???! I'm from the South Bay, so the level of organization and the amount of stuff this Macy's has is great! (It is five stories and one of the flagship stores). It also carries brands that the regular Macy's (I'm referring to Valley Fair/Stoneridge/Oakridge) do not carry. They also do cool seasonal decorations and have fun in-store events, and I'd highly recommend checking those out. read more

Huge store but this building should have warning signs. WARNING allergy alert!!! Most entrances are straight into the perfume area. The smell hits you hard it is very strong it is overwhelming. They give lots of free sprays I guess but how do people know if they like it? there is so much smell most days you can't distinguish individual smells at all. No matter which direction I am coming from, I enter through the doors center of building across from Union Square. Those are the only doors where you aren't assaulted by the perfumes. The food court downstairs is fairly good and the store has all the usual stuff of Macy's line up. Men's cloths are across the street. read more

***This Macy's is easily the best Macy's I have ever been to and if you like Macy's and live in this area, you might want to give it a thorough visit*** Most Macy's stores are very similar--similar size, similar selection and similar sales and prices. This Macy's really stands out though. This is most noticeable with their non-clothes sections. Their luggage selection is extensive with price friendly options to higher end brands (great options in colors too). Their home selection is also impressive--a good amount of furniture and lots of table settings and bedding options (this Macy's would be a great place to register). This Macy's kitchen section might be the most impressive. There is definitely a lot of choice with an unbelievable number of pots, pans and kitchen appliances on sale (it is kind of like its own kitchen specialty store). Their clothing selection is good too. Brands like Calvin Klein are well showcased here with big and separate sections with little overlap into other brands, which you will find a lot at other Macy's locations. And their clothing is priced comparable to other Macy's stores so you can expect o find the reasonably priced but nice clothing you can find at most Macy's stores (though Macy's quality and availability of ultra high-end brands may suffer when compared to nearby high-end and significantly more expensive department stores like Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale's and Nordstrom). In addition to this Macy's great selection, this Macy's has other interesting features you will not find at other Macy's stores. They were doing a Zumba class and even featuring samples of baked goods as well as bottled water and what appeared to be Moose Munch. A Cheesecake Factory is located on site as is Hubert Keller's Burger Bar. The bottom floor features another sit-down restaurant as well as several food court eateries including a Rick Bayless spot. There was also a wide variety of packaged chocolates and food (including Rick Bayless salsa). There was even a mini Godiva store. It was nice to go to the bottom floor and see a decent number of gourmet food options available. It kind of reminded me of the bottom floors of department stores in Japan, which showcase numerous chocolatiers and patisseries. Their seasonal decoration was nice--especially the large seasonal wreaths in each of the many store windows (well, all expect one window). There were a few areas where this Macy's could be better. The escalators were not that consistent. The escalators to some floors were wide while others were very narrow. Also, some of the escalators had inside wood panel lining that immediately reminded me of the station wagon in National Lampoon's Vacation. I was also surprised that I did not see many salespeople welcoming customers; of course, this was the case with most San Francisco department stores I visited. This Macy's is a great Macy's. The biggest flaw with this Macy's is that it is right in Downtown San Francisco; therefore, I am not sure how convenient it is to purchase some of their bigger items. Still, this is a must visit if you are loyal to Macy's and I think it would also be a great spot to register given their wide variety of products and prices. I am not sure what the parking situation is. There is a parking structure across the street, but I think it fills up quickly. read more

My last visit to Macy's was literally the last time I wrote a review for Macy's in 2008. So...it's been awhile. A long while. And those shoes that I once raved about in 2008 - ended up slipping off of my feet, causing blisters, and just not being the comfortable dream that I imagined...but I still have love for Macy's. I still respect Macy's because they get it. With an underwear and bra department that spans one whole massive floor, and drastic double-take sales prices - they get it. Forget Ross and their absurd long lines and lack-luster lingerie department - if you want the best deals in town on designer underwear and bras - just go to Macy's. Not only will their staff assist you in finding all of your sizes - but they don't bat an eye at how many items that you take with you into the dressing room and will happily even put them back for you. Soooooo what's up. In fact - all of the departments at Macy's are bursting with great deals and a solid collection of items. If you haven't visited Macy's in awhile - do. You'll be surprised. Macy's in Union Square is certainly different from the suburban locations. More merchandise, more holiday decorations, interesting places to eat are a few of reasons I enjoy coming here during the holiday. The whole experience is different. I had a gift card from Macy's I came here and I also went to Concord location and it was hard to believe it they were the same company. Briefly checking out the merchandise, there are bargains to found, sales prices, coupons, and other discounts make Macy's competitive with lower end stores. The extra star is for the holiday windows that show case dogs and cats that are available for adoption. Many animals left the SPCA and found their forever homes because of Macy's read more

No...okay maybe a little (I swear I wiped it up). Stare lustfully in their direction? Only for 5, 10, maybe 30 minutes...tops. What's left you ask? Well, I write about them of course! So that I can share with all you lovelies the great prices you can find in this typically overpriced section of Macy's. Even with the sale prices they can still be expensive but if you like nice things and youre going to spend the money on it anyway, might as well get a discount! P.S. Macy's is dog friendly. This review is for this particular sales representative named ALESIA, in their Estee Lauder department. I came in, looking for a perfume box set that I am going to give my precious mom. Alesia came in following me around without even a simplest hi nor the tiniest smile. So I just went on skimming through the perfumes they have on display, since at that moment I didn't need any help. Eventually, she asked me "Do you need any help or are you just looking around" with a blunt expression. I just replied "I'm just looking around, thank you." That was my cue to give me space, but no! she just stood there like a lifeless mannequin, and i just gave up. Eventually, i just had to ask her if she had anymore sets, and tadaaaa!! there i found pleasure by Estee Lauder. I said I'll take it, with no fuss, none whatsoever. When she rung me up, she didn't even offer me the freebies. I just thought she just forgot, but no, the display was just right there, she wouldn't have missed it. I even had to ask her, if they have special offers. Eventually, she did give it to me. Then now, when i got my concealer, she gave me the wrong shade!! i don't know why she's zoning out, or maybe she thought we can never be bff's ever ever ever, but whatever it is! From 8 floors of shopping fun to the annual Brazilian flower show that fills the whole store with gi-normous flower arrangements, there are so many reasons to love this Macy's. I used to go here so often I knew how to get around the Cellar and first floors like a stealthy assassin. Let me count the ways this Macy's rocks starting at the bottom and working my way up: Cellar: Restaurants, Food, and a Post Office! Wolfgang Puck Express Cafe is in the Cellar and I used to eat here every single day even though it was a 15 minute walk from my office. I ordered the spicy chicken pizza and salad (dressing on the side, no cheese) so much the guy behind the counter would just whip it up for me on sight. Sometimes there are cooking demos downstairs (only worth it for the samples so just raid it at the end) and occasional Godiva chocolate samples. Also, there's a post office. What the fuck! And, with no line! Macy's really *is* a miniature city with restaurants, a post office, and clothing. You could probably even secretly create your own bedroom in the furniture department to live there and send out letters with your new Macy's address from the post office. 1st Floor: Socks, Jewelry, and Purses! Costume Jewelry This Macy's carries all the good costume jewelry labels like Givenchy, Liz Claiborne, Nine West, Monet, Guess, Carolee, Lucky Brand, and 1928/2028 that aren't at all Macy's stores. Plus, if you're on your game, Macy's has the best buys on jewelry anywhere. Since I used to eat here daily, it was part of my routine to check the 50% off clearance jewelry. As soon as I saw a piece I liked, I'd buy it and then lie in wait (usually until a Friday-Sunday sale) until the clearance jewelry was marked, "Take an additional 50% off." Then I'd ask for a price adjustment. They're only supposed to give it within two weeks of purchase, but I discovered one saleslady who would let me return stuff (up to 6 months after purchase) and buy it back at the reduced price. She rocked. Fine Jewelry This Macy's actually has vintage rings. I know! They actually have a case with a really nice selection of art deco diamond engagement rings that are real knock outs. Socks Macy's carries the Hot Sox brand, which has featured some of my favorite socks like "pirate faces" and "sushi." If you're lucky you can catch them marked down for $3 per pair. Purses Sometimes you can catch a good deal here. The purses in the 50% off sale bins seem to always suck though. You're better off looking for ones marked 25-30% off. 2nd Floor. Shoes! If you catch a good sale, you can get Nine West and some of the other covetable brands at good prices. 3rd Floor: I Can't Afford So Keep Climbing the Escalator! 4th Floor: Juniors and Women's Departments! The junior department always has a really funky smell near one of the dressing rooms (the one in the middle but not on the Guess side). Their clothes are okay but of course their pants are built for 15 year old bodies which is great if you have a butt like a boy. Because I have no boobs I can pull off their tops and they're cheap. The women's departments are all too expensive with I.N.C., Kenneth Cole, and Nine West lines. I'd dish out the money (for their sale stuff which is still $50) if their clothing looked good, but the fit seems to always be off. 5th Floor: Lingerie and Coats! There are some great panty finds in the sale section. The bras tend to cost too much and aren't all that pretty. Macy's always has a great selection of coats (I got a wool, faux fur collared one here), though many of them (even those marked "small") run too big. 6th Floor: Furniture and World's Best Women's Bathroom! We got our purple chenille sofa and chair here, and they were very reasonably priced (on par with cheap Crate & Barrel or Z Gallerie). The women's bathroom is one of the best I've ever seen. It has a green stylized art deco decor, and all the floor length doors blend into the wall like secret passages. This bathroom is so much better than the armpit of a bathroom in the Cellar which exists for the masses. 7th Floor: Rugs! I got my beloved Calvin Klein modern purple flower rug here at 1/3 the original price. It involved months of stalking it until it went on sale. One of the sales guys offered to make me deals in the meantime that would be below the lowest price even on sale. I still held out until it was finally super on sale. 8th Floor: Watch Repair! My watch battery was replaced on the spot for 10 bucks. See, Macy's is my little city! read more
