The Ritual app has a promotion for sweet summer drinks from August 30 through September 12. Palgong…read moreTea is one of the participating bubble tea joints.
Promotions are always welcomed. It allows me to try a new place. I'm so glad that I did.
Palgong Tea has $1 drinks happening. It seemed almost too good to be true. This Korean bubble tea chain is appealing, mainly because it offers items that aren't strictly Korean.
It offers Vitasoy drinks. As someone who grew up with Vitasoy and tends to favour having non-dairy drinks, I was so happy to see variety on the beverage menu. As part of the promotion, I got the coconut chai with Vitasoy. The downside is that you cannot customize the sugar or ice levels on promotional items, so you hope that you don't get an all-icy, sugary drink. You can, however, specify whether you want a hot or cold drink. I went with the latter.
This place offers ade drink. I love fizzy drinks, so I'll need to return. You can get Yummy Doh (vegan cookie dough), bingsu, smoothies, iced fruit teas, macarons, cheesecake, Sap Sucker drinks, and silvanas. Heavenly!
I went with a ube cheese silvana. It's frozen Filipino cookies with ube halaya (jam), and cream cheese and ube bits in the buttercream. I first learned about silvanas last summer and how to make ube jam at a Yelp virtual event earlier this year. I knew that I had to have one.
My order was ready fairly fast. I placed my order at East Street Sandwiches and it was ready minutes before I got to Palgong Tea.
The parking lot is interesting. There are a small number of spots that face Highway 7. The idea is to pull into the lot and do a sharp right to get to the spots. If you exit, it's a one-way direction, so you circle around the condominium complex to finally head out. No u-turns are allowed because it's pretty tight here.
I had no problem finding a parking spot at around 6 pm on a Wednesday night. I backed into a spot and headed over to the store.
The store is small. There is a maximum of two customers in the store. There is no seating. I was the only customer, so I had no problem here.
I was greeted by a friendly woman. She addressed me by my first name. I love that Ritual has your name and I included a photo, so folks can recognize me if they imagine me without a mask. I do like the personalization. She handed me my order. I thanked her and wished her a great evening as I headed out the door with my goodies.
I had my iced coconut chai with Vitasoy at home. It was indeed $1 for what I would say is the equivalent of a grande Starbucks drink size-wise. It was delicious. It was sweeter than I typically get, but it wasn't crazy sugary. I loved the chai and coconut flavours. They worked harmoniously and had the right amount of flavour that I enjoy. The Vitasoy was perfect. Yum!
I made the mistake of not popping the ube cheese silvana in the freezer. I wanted it immediately. Even softer than it should be, it was delightful. OMG! Just get it for the creamy, rich buttercream. If you love ube, this silvana is for you. It wasn't overly sweet, but the ube jam and buttercream tasted decadent. I will need to get some macarons simply because I would imagine that the same filling would be used there.
I am so glad that I dropped by. I loved everything that I had ordered. I can't wait to come back to try more. The bingsu intrigues me. I may need to order one and devour it in my car.
