Passed by here and was craving a bubble tea drink. The price is standard price for regular sized drinks. I love taro so I got the taro mousse drink. I can go without the mouse and would make the sugar level at minimal (25%) or none next time. I never tried this place before so I got 50% and it was extremely sweet. The earl gray milk tea with tapioca balls was fine. Pretty standard. Again, i would recommend minimal sugar. If you are affected by caffeine, don't drink it at night. The store is very small with limited seating spots. The service was fast when we were there. As we were waiting for our orders, a large group came in. We saw the adv about Family Day Special as a set of bear cups (2 big bear cups and 1 small bear cup) on social media. This special only for this weekend. We found the close by Hwy 7 location. Any drinks can be going into the bottle and this special. We got Mix Fruit tea, Dragon Fruit tea and Passion Fruit tea. The colour of them look so attractive. We got a family bears home. I like the Dragon Fruit drink so much, but I didn't see any strawberry in my mixed fruit tea. Maybe not the season?! read more

Earlier this year, I was a part of a cool Yelp Canada panel for a virtual event on how to be the best Yelper. One of the two Community Managers co-hosting this event called me the "Yelp Queen." Well, that caught on with one of my friends. She teased me that I should get some bubble tea from Royaltea, to complete the picture. Well, I finally completed this royal circle. I dropped by Hillcrest Mall last Saturday, which was my first real mall visit since slowly moving out of lockdown whatever number we're at. I was here on my birthday to redeem some perks at both The Body Shop and Sephora. I was standing outside Sephora, waiting to enter the store. I looked over and saw Royaltea. I needed to drop by afterwards. Royaltea is where DAVIDs Tea was. Before that, it was Teavana. This mall has a lot of drink places, which probably explains why I enjoy coming here. I had been to both defunct stores in the past, so I might as well visit Royaltea and hope that it doesn't die, either. There's a lot to look at on the menu. I took my sweet time. Meanwhile, two rather stuck-up females decided to push by everyone to get to the lineup and probably took five minutes trying to decide what they wanted. Weird. I don't expect stuffy people at a suburban mall in Richmond Hill out of all places! When it was my turn to order, I got a lychee green tea with mousse. The man taking my order asked if I wanted it in a bottle. You get the option of getting a light bulb or a bear. I decided to treat myself on my birthday by getting a large bear bottle. It looked like a Bearbrick (fancy toy where characters, such as Mickey Mouse and Bart Simpson, become bears that are rectangular like bricks) and I oddly don't have any. It's always interesting trying to get used to the lingo at each bubble tea place. I normally do no sugar and less ice. There's apparently no such thing as no sugar at this place. The lowest level is low sugar. I asked what that meant. It's 10% sugar. So, I went with it. It took a bit of time to get my drink made, but it was worth the wait. It took two people to put my drink together. They carefully wiped off whatever mousse (cheese foam) dripped down the bear bottle. I was so happy when my drink was handed to me. The two women behind me were standing at the pickup area, which is small. They were kind to move out of the way. There's a cute ledge where you can take photos of your drink. I asked one of these women if she could move for a bit as I took a shot. "It's not every day that I have a bear drink," I said to them as I cued up my shot. "For sure. It's photo-worthy," the mom replied, watching me take the shot. I thanked them and wished them a good day. They reciprocated. Here's the thing with the bottle. When it's full, it doesn't stand freely on its own because the bear's tummy and face jut out. The weight pulls him forward and he will do a face plant. Once you drink out of the bottle, he will eventually learn how to stand up. I will admit that the bear bottle is gimmicky. However, if you like reusing bottles and cute things (my bear bottle now contains jelly beans), I'd go for it. I'l like to get the light bulb, just because I like fun novelty items that also serve a functional purpose. My drink was more expensive than the norm because I bought the large bear bottle. It was a $12 purchase. I didn't mind it. It was a treat for me. The lychee green tea with mousse was refreshing on a hot, humid day. The cheese foam wasn't all that salty, but its subtle taste worked nicely with the green tea and naturally sweet lychee. There were chunks of lychee at the bottom, which were generous and a nice touch. It was difficult fishing them out at the bottom of this tall bottle, so it's helps to have a tall spoon on hand. I enjoyed this drink a lot. The store is small, so I recommend waiting away from the pickup area. I'd return and try more drinks because there are a ton! (274) read more

RoyalTea is a bubble tea/boba stop in the corner of Times Square on Highway 7 and Leslie. It faces Highway 7 and is underneath Gyu-Kaku. I've passed by RoyalTea so often as I work in the area, but I've always gone to other places. But now, I finally decided to try out RoyalTea! I ordered their Brulee Bobo and I really enjoyed it! The tapioca was very soft and chewy, yet sweet. I'm not normally the type of person who likes tapioca for toppings, but I would definitely get this again! The price is a bit higher than other places (comparable to higher end bubble tea places like Machi Machi), so it's definitely not going to be a go-to, but it's good for a quick fix if you're in the area! With the new Ontario lockdown in place, I have been looking for more new restaurants and cafes that I haven't tried before. I decided to try Royaltea so I ordered from Ubereats. I ordered the milk tea with tapioca in a bear bottle and original bubble waffle. The staff called me and told me they were sold out of bubble waffle and offered me to choose a drink instead so I got a chocolate mousse drink. The bear bottle was super cute, but the tapioca is harder to drink since they were stuck to the bottom of the bear and the straw isn't long enough to reach the bottom. The milk tea flavour is also not as strong as other places, but it isn't bad. Overall, the bubble tea is ok. For the price, I would not get it again, but it was worth a try for the cute bottles. read more

This is located inside Hillcrest mall right in front of center court outside of Hudsons bay. Originally David's Tea was here, but has now been taken over by Royal Tea house. Hillcrest mall seems to be shaping up to be quite a "drink" destination. Theres Real Fruit Bubble Tea, Cha Time, Tim Hortons, Second Cup, two Starbucks (yes two), Freshly Squeezed, and Saint Germain bakery which also sells HK inspired drinks. You definitely wont be thirsty while cruising this mall! Though given the number of options within this one mall, Royal Tea seemed to fall a bit short. When we first entered, the worker/cashier was quick to welcome us and stand ready at the cashier ready to take our order. While we told her this is our first time and we need a minute to look over the menu we noticed she was mumbling to herself. At first I thought maybe that was just the way she is (no judgement for peoples odd quirks), but then realized she was actually talking to someone on the phone (bluetooth ear bud in one ear). Not a huge thing but for customer service optics wasnt the best. Initially we wanted to try the "Cake" series of drinks but were informed that they were out. I was a bit surprised since they just opened, but it didnt deter us from trying something else. We ended up ordering two drinks - Bear cup matcha milk tea with tapioca and a Royal Tea Earl Grey Trio. The bear cup matcha milk tea is really just a gimmick in the sense that they just give you your drink in a clear plastic bear container, so not worth it in hind sight but the name of the drink got me curious which led to me ordering it. Given the fact that masks are mandatory indoors, we ended up taking our drinks home to enjoy since we couldnt drink it in the mall. When we got home, I discovered that my bear cup match milk tea with tapioca as per the menu name, as per what it said on the receipt and what I paid for actually was a bear cup matcha milk tea WITHOUT tapioca I dont know if the server being on her phone contributed to this blunder, but none the less I was quite disappointed to find out my drink was blatantly missing something as per what I was charged and given the name of the drink. The other drink we got (Royal tea trio) was very under whelming as surprisingly the pudding topping had an extremely funny taste. Hopefully they improve in the near future and they can ramp things up once COVID is under control. Im giving the slight benefit of the doubt that maybe they weren't quite ready as they just opened. But overall given the price, the underwhelming service, the blatant mistake and the other options in the mall I have no issue walking right by this place and enjoying another beverage from else where for now. read more
