The quality of the drinks is very similar to the Taiwan branches. Hope they can continue this. My go to drink is QQ Passionfruit and I was super happy they had it here and at the actual sugar level I wanted. Most places that have the QQ topping make it way too sweet! When you walk in, there are kiosks to order. The place can get pretty packed with no direction of who is waiting for a drink and who is waiting for the kiosk. The staff are helpful if they are present. They explained what was in the drinks to the customers in front of us since it was their first time here. Most of the employees are busy making the drinks and they are very busy. Sometimes I see idle staff at other places, but this place had every single employee busy. I really didn't like how the kiosk just showed your number on the screen. Then I'd have to remember the number. I have poor memory lol At least you get a text if you enter your phone number, but you have to download another app to get the rewards. I really don't like this system. Their king of mango is pretty expensive but the flavor also is pretty outstanding too. Mango itself taste like Asia mango and not mango from Mexico which is important to me. That's also probably why is more expensive. The tea jelly compliments it perfectly. I like it but I still feel ICI in San Gabriel is a better value for the almost exact same drink. But I think Macu has the better mango and ICI has better tea jelly and pricing. I mean you can't go wrong with either shop. I'd get Macu if ICI isn't around. The funny thing is Macu is opening right next to ICI in San Gabriel soon. Parking is pretty spacious in this plaza, but there can be a bit of a wait depending on the crowd. The quality of their drinks really stand out, as you can taste the real fruit in their drinks. Was in the Irvine area and feeling the need for a drink decided to stop by Macu tea and try their King of Mango Smoothie and was not disappointed. At 25% sugar level, the drink was perfect with lots of fresh mango and coconut jelly. Wish there was some pomelo in there as well but it was outstanding even without it. Not as tea-forward as other place, but if you're looking for some affordable boba drinks with customization, etc. you can come check out Macu Tea! Macu is a new boba addition to Irvine this summer so I was excited to give it a try. They're located in a large plaza so parking is very easy. The store itself is small inside and just for ordering but there are seats outdoors if you want to sit and enjoy your drink. They seem to be more popular for their fruit drinks so I went for the popular chi chi mango smoothie. This drink was less creamy and more on the refreshing side but it was very well balanced and the toppings added good texture! My friend also got the tie guan yin oolong tea latte and this was actually very good as well. The flavors are softer and more subtle than the popular TP tea however I would still recommend it as well! read more

I was recommended to try Macu, and was excited to try it! The plaza and store weren't too busy on a Sunday early afternoon. The store was bright and clean. I got the tieguanying oolong milk tea with boba (my fave tea as of late). The drink was delicious, but leaning on the sweeter side. The boba texture was on point, and they even gave a little drink holder! Macu's tieguanying milk tea jumped to the top of one of my favorites just by a single visit. I will be back! read more

My husband is addicted to their grapefruit green tea. He said this is the BEST and request for 1 a day lol. My person favorite is their green tea with coconut jelly with no sugar and no ice. The coconut jelly is sweet in itself so there's no need for added sugar. If you are mango lover, this is the season to get your mango fixes. The only downside with their mango drinks is you cannot make changes to the sugar level. I personally only order drinks with no sugar and no ice. The enviornment in the store is clean and open. There's no place to really sit and hang out and so it's more like a grab and go type of place. I remember that on a previous visit you greeted me as I entered the establishment. Kiosks had been put in place since my last visit and it took me a few minutes to realize that I needed to use the kiosk to place an order. On yet another visit, I came with my daughter after a hospital shift. You gave her a sample of green jelly that helped her finalize on a drink she wanted to order. Today, I came in to order a Tieguanyin Oolong Milk Tea (for my caffeine fix), King of Mango Smoothie (daughter's favorite drink), and Orange & Mango Li-Li Tea (to try one of the summer offerings). The customer that came in after me was directed to the other kiosk to order. A family and 2 other male customers came in after I ordered. The little girl that came in with her family had to use the restroom. She saw only an employees only area behind the rope. Unfortunately, there was no restroom to use so they had to go elsewhere for a restroom while waiting for their drinks. The customer after me went to check on his drink. I saw that 2 of my drinks were ready and approached the counter. The other male staff member on duty said that there was still one more drink to be made, but I had seen the healthcare worker that had ordered after me take a King of Mango Smoothie that had been placed on the counter. I could understand that the healthcare worker did not have time to wait because breaks are short. I noticed there was another King of Mango Smoothie off to the side. The curly haired staff member gave it to me so that I wouldn't have to wait any longer. You deserve the tips that are left for you. I don't know if it's first come first serve here. I love this place. I just wanted to update since I've been here like 3 or 4 more times. Everything from my previous review still stands in my opinion. I've landed on 50% sugar without boba being optimal, I think they're also modifying their %'s. Their tea has been "not overbrewed" every time (as opposed to other places in Irvine). The tea jelly here is top notch. It's so good! A bit bitter, if you like that, and packed with tea flavor. The only other place I get tea jelly is TP Tea, and their tea jelly is bland compared to this. Last time I went, I got a jasmine milk tea and golden leaf milk tea, both 50% sugar. The jasmine was a little bland. The time before that, the jasmine was amazing. The golden leaf was amazing the 1 time I got it. So, in terms of tea strength, a bit inconsistent. But, like I said, it has not been overbrewed, which I love. Drinks are made relatively slowly, but even if it takes 15 minutes to make a drink here, it still beats waiting in line at Omomo. The prices are medium-high here, expect to pay $5-$7/drink before tax/tip. I think I found my tea place, I'll update if things change. read more

MANGO CHI CHI (cheese foam mango smoothie w green tea jelly) - straight up mango - which i love because i can definitely taste it in every sip and so so refreshing - line: total wait time was about an hour - honestly for me it was too long and would probably come when things settle down - nice lil red carry strap - nice customer service despite the crowd - cute interior (on the smaller side so the line wrapped around and it was difficult to see who was waiting and who was in line) I think that creating a system that shows orders in progress and orders finished on the TV would be very helpful. the workers calling the orders would have to call out numbers frequently but the crowd made it hard to hear. also people would have to wait inside to hear and the inside became very crowded quickly. just a cool adjustment that i think would be helpful for everyone if possible :) overall really enjoyed my drink and would love to come back to try the strawberry some time :) read more

This might be my new favorite tea spot for boba tea. I've only had their tea-based drinks and I think I will forever come here to order the tea drinks because the tea here is really good. I think the problem is with bigger franchises is that the tea is some cheaper-powder- mix and end up tasting like a sweet-milky nothing with a "hint" of tea, but here, you can actually taste the teas. I really enjoy the jasmine tea here, its is really fragrant and adding milk to it makes it this silky smooth combo that is just delicious. The boba here is good too: not too overcooked but just with the right amount of bounce. They offer the drinks here both hot and cold, and the hot is also surprisingly good as well and hits the spot on a cold day. I am going to be honest - the tea is not great. It has no fragrance and honestly not much tea. The sweetener they use also has an odd aftertaste and tends to clump. I ordered a tieguanyin at half sweet, and while it was half sweet, nothing about it was memorable. I even peeled off the top to drink it, but the aroma is faint. Got the jasmine milk tea and oolong milk tea. Opted in for boba for both for an additional $1 each. For nearly $17 for 2 cups of boba, I expected better. Ordered online, drinks still weren't ready upon arrival. It took more than 20 minutes for them to make 2 drinks, so I thought it would be good. Asked for less ice and 80% sugar options for both but ended up with regular ice for one of them (it was printed as regular ice on the label). 80% sugar is extremely sweet - probably because the boba was sugary sweet as well. The only thing that was decent about the drink was the boba. Chewy texture, except it was very sweet. The drinks were extremely diluted. The jasmine milk tea tasted like creamer and sugar. The oolong milk tea tasted like tea from a tea bag that had already been twice filtered. Extremely terrible quality drinks for the price. I wouldn't come back again. read more

Limited bench seating and no restrooms. They have a lot of good looking drinks. The texture of the tea jelly, the pulp and mango all together makes a great combo. But I would want it without jelly sometimes, I wanted to remove the tea jelly but they don't allow adjustments. Came here in grand opening day and there was a line to order that moved relatively quickly. There were a lot of people waiting for drinks but they got the drinks out fairly quickly too considering all the orders. I tried the King of Mango smoothie and got winter melon lemonade for free as the promo of the day. The King of Mango was soo good! It wasn't too sweet and had great mango flavor. I don't usually like jellies in my drink other than herbal jelly but the green tea jelly was good and didn't make the drink too sweet and was very mild. The only thing was that I could taste the tartness from the mango pieces, which means it wasn't very ripe yet, but all in all three drink was very balanced. The winter lemonade was not my cup of tea though. The fixed sweetness level was fine (not too sweet) but the lemonade was really sour. If you like lemonades or sour drinks, you should like this. They handed out samples of an orange and passionfruit tea that was nice and refreshing. Service was friendly and attentive. I will definitely come back for more mango drinks. read more

My sister and I heard that Macu Tea had taken over Tiger Sugar's old location and are very happy that they did. We went on the 3rd day of their grand opening for their BOGO and ended up waiting about 15 minutes to order and another 40 minutes to actually receive the drinks. Parking was easy enough in the plaza. For the drinks themselves, we ordered the King of Mango Smoothie, Tieguanyin Oolong Milk Tea, Golden Leaf Milk Tea, Boba Milk Tea, Sunshine Li-Li Tea, and Ruby Grapefruit Li-Li Tea. My personal favorite was their King of Mango Smoothie with the Tieguanyin Oolong Milk Tea being a close second. The King of Mango Smoothie was reminiscent of the mango drinks at Hui Lau Shan, with the mango flavor being very fresh and pronounced. The Tieguanyin Oolong Milk Tea is a little difficult to describe but was deeper than the other milk teas - would recommend to anyone who likes the Roasted oolong milk tea at Bako. The Golden Leaf Milk Tea was also good but a little lighter and sweeter than their regular milk tea. The regular Boba Milk Tea was solid but nondescript - would recommend one of the Golden Leaf or Tieguanyin depending on typical taste preference. Both of the Li-Li drinks were good but not for me personally as I don't care for passionfruit and grapefruit as drink flavors. The boba quality was good, albeit a little on the squishier side. Overall, this is definitely a spot I'll be returning to frequently with all the recent changes in the Irvine boba scene. read more
