Macu has been my go to for months now and it is a solid choice for boba in Irvine. The price is a bit expensive, being around 8-9$ for fresh fruit drinks, but all boba shops around the area are similar price. It is self kiosk ordering so not much on the service but the employees can be helpful for recommendations. Nice decor and very cozy. My favorite is the king of mango smoothie, can't go wrong with some mango smoothie with coconut milk! Strawberry bobo is also a good smoothie. Can't wait to try their other drinks. read more

A new boba spot opened up in Irvine - that has taken over the Tiger Sugar location. Co worker mentioned not only was Macu Tea new in town, they also had a BOGO event .. AND they use fresh fruit! Welp, we were all in. We arrived at 11:30 (at opening), and there was already a smallish line out the door. As others have mentioned, it does take a while to get your drinks, because they cut up the fruits as they receive orders. Workers there were all very nice! The upside is that no fruits go to waste, and the fruits in your drinks are not frozen or have been exposed to the air for too long. The downside is that, even with many workers, you gotta wait a while to receive your drinks. But - for receiving a quality drink, I don't think it's too bad of a tradeoff! We went on 8/26 when they had the BOGO buy any of the 3 mango series drinks and receive a free wintermelon lemonade. Both of the drinks you were not able to adjust sweetness level. - King of Mango Smoothie: Tastes great, until you sip up the bottom most layer. We found out later this is tea jelly which all of us feels it has a weirdish taste and didn't quite fit with the drink. The mango and pomelo were top notch though. - Wintermelon Lemonade: WowwwweeeEEEe! I thought this drink would be a little more sweeter than it was being that we weren't able to adjust. My first sip was completely SOUR. I couldn't taste anything else besides sour. Wasn't too impressed with this one. Overall, glad a new spot opened up and would like to try their other items! read more

This tieguanyin oolong milk tea is super strong with a nice roasted flavor. Tea jelly had a good chew to it, and the 10% sweetness was just right for me. Staff welcomed us and suggested sticking to one topping since they give big portions. Very clean and modern. I'd definitely come back! read more

This tea place is utterly perfect. Their tea is really "the perfect temperature". Their menu is diverse with so many good options. I like refreshing, fruity tea and they provide that and even more. They give a LOT of boba for only 1 dollar. Macu tea is tea at its highest peek. read more

I've had Macu Tea at the SJ location, so I was excited that they now have a location in Irvine. But to be honest, I don't think I'm the biggest fan of their drinks from what I've had so far. Maybe I just don't like the green tea jelly topping in the drinks too much. I've had the King of Mango Smoothie (SJ location) which was decent, and yesterday, I got the Chi-Chi Mango Smoothie. The "chi-chi" is the cheese foam topping. I think the smoothies are more like slushies from what I've had. My drink was alright, but I liked what my boyfriend got (Golden Leaf Milk Tea) better. If you're hoping for an Omomo Fruit Tornado Mango dupe, this is unfortunately not the place. Service was fine, and we didn't have to wait too long for our drinks (5-10 min max). Although there was a bit of an awkward moment since I hit print for my receipt, but the printer paper ran out for the customer copy, and the employee just read my order number instead of refilling the paper and handing me my physical copy. We came by on a Tuesday close to 5:30pm and it was empty. This is also not the kind of boba place you come to chill and sit down with your friends, as there are no seats. It's pretty much a grab and go sort of place. This place isn't on the top of my list to get boba when I'm in Irvine, but I'd be open to coming back and trying different drinks. read more

The Sunshine Li Li tea is naturally sweet so I don't recommend adding too much extra sugar. Filled with pulp and seeds that extra and extra citrus texture. I enjoy this fruit tea that does not leave that tea aftertaste in your mouth. Staff is very friendly too. read more

Honestly, I never tried the other drinks here, but I'm sure those are as good. My usual is the sunshine LILi. It's so good that I can't miss it every time when I visited the shop. It's really hard to find such a good service nowadays, but everyone went above and beyond to help you. Also with a big smile. Excellent service. read more

Came here on a friday night about two weeks ago and waited a total of 30 minutes for 5 cups of boba. Very unorganized because drinks were all made, and it was just sitting on the counter. The waiting area was getting a bit crowded too. Drinks Ordered: Bo-Bo Grape Smoothies - way too sweet and has a weird after taste Sunshine Li-Li Tea with noodle jelly - a bit too sweet even with the sugar adjustment. missing some tart and lacking some flavors. Ruby Grapefruit Li-Li Tea with Agar Boba and noodle jelly - this was the best drink of the night. Black Milk Tea with boba - very strong tea flavor but a tad too sweet. read more

So many tea options and their boba is delicious. Definitely with adding extra boba they did not skimp!

Long wait. Disorganized. They just opened. Def needs a good amount of improvement on training their staff. I got King of Mango and my husband got orange mango tea. The mango and grapefruit pieces are fresh but way too big for the straws. Also my husband's drink got no orange in it. It was frustrating drinking them. Please inform the staff to cut the fruits into smaller pieces. Pasadena location is better but also I guess it has been opened longer. read more

This place hands down deserves a 5 star. Just for the Chi Chi smoothie drinks. Specifically grape chi chi smoothie. I am giving this 5 stars mainly just for the Chi Chi grape smoothie. If you get that you will see why I rate this 5 stars. Their smoothies are better than any in the area including Omomo. Their only rival is "HEYTEA" but I still prefer this place. If you notice the people who don't put 5 stars, usually they don't order the Chi Chi smoothie drinks. I've tried basically all the teas and the only ones worth it are the Golden Leaf Chi Chi and Black milk tea, which are solid 4 stars, the other teas are average. So I understand why many don't think this is 5 stars. Don't come here for the teas, come here for the Chi Chi smoothies if you come here. Grape Chi Chi smoothie: 11/10, greatest smoothie I've ever had in my whole life. Strawberry and Mango smoothie: 9.5/10. Best strawberry and mango smoothies I ever had but still not as good as grape. Chi chi golden leaf tea: 8/10, their unique tea has a unique flavor, and the chi chi foam adds a nice creamy and saltiness flavor to it. Black milk tea: 7.5/10 Sunshine tea: 7/10 Chi chi green tea: 7/10 Oolong milk tea: 6.5/10 read more

A good option for boba in an area of the city that doesnt have many options. The overall taste of the drinks here is similar to Wushiland, but I thought it was better quality. For example, I had the Ruby Grapefuit Tea, and the grapefruit and boba texture was really good. On the other hand, the milk tea I had wasn't as good as some of the other boba places. Worth coming back to try some of the other drinks. read more

Macu took over the old Tiger Sugar spot in Irvine. Same overall layout inside with just standing room while you wait for your order. There are 3 tables outside in the shade, otherwise you're taking your drink to go. The drinks however do come with a handle strap so it's easier to hold multiple if you're ordering for more than yourself. A nice touch for taking them to go. The order process is fairly quick, but getting your drink has a long wait queue since they're blending fresh fruits for each. If you've got the time, the drinks are made well with a good balance of fruit and tea. read more

Not bad but nothing special either. We ordered the tieguanyin and king of mango smoothie which were a tad watered down and unfortunately the flavor of tea/mango weren't very prominent in either. Price-wise, it's not too bad for the tea but the smoothie felt a bit more expensive than it's worth. I would say their boba is very soft and good though. No complaints about service either. read more

This rating is based on my honest review on their management decisions and not on the quality of their drinks or staffs. This used to be one of my favorite go to place for milk tea but sadly I don't think I will be coming back after today. I used to get the Tieguanying milk tea with topping for ($5.25 for milk tea and $0.75 for topping) which comes $6.47 including tax. Now, I have to pay close to $8.40 ($6.75 milk tea+ $1 for topping before tax) for the same drink. I can understand if they increased the price by $0.50 and to blame it on inflation, Trade war etc .. but an increase of nearly $2 seems greedy to me from Sep 19th until now. I've been going to Macu since their soft opening roughly a year ago. I was always a big fan but I noticed management kept cutting cost by reducing staffs, using smaller cups for drinks and now increasing price by almost two dollars. Their milk tea used to come in the paper cup, which holds more than their current plastic cups that they switched to earlier this year. I kept coming back even with the changes but sadly, I can't justify paying $8.40 for a boba milk tea. Like many reviewers have said, we have so many good boba places in Irvine to choose from, with many big franchise that came from China and Taiwan like Heytea, Auntie Jenny, TP tea, and Wushi boba, just to name a few and they all uses good quality teas. Their boba milk tea prices range from $6-$7 at most, which is way less than $8.40. I hope management will listen to their consumers and make the necessary changes before they lose more loyal customers. read more

Came on the 3rd day of opening. Got in line at 11:30 and ordered by 11:50. It took over 40 minutes before I got my drink after ordering. Seems like there was not enough staff to really support opening day. They kept saying they make their tea fresh so it takes longer but I still think they were a bit understaffed for opening week. The place is not very spacious so it felt a bit crowded with everyone in line to order along with those waiting for their drinks. I got the sunset li li, ruby grapefruit li li and the boba tieguanyi oolong milk tea. All were really good and the boba was perfectly qq. The staff were friendly, nice and apologetic for the wait. First customer on opening day! I got the king of mango smoothie, it's a good balance of sweetness and the toppings are all very good. Look forward to trying their other stuff, since it's right across from work. Price is around $7-8 so it's not exactly cheap, but feels like it's the norm for new boba shops nowadays. read more

I've tried this place twice now and really enjoyed their drinks and service. Staff are always so friendly - shout out to Ethan! Drinks we've tried and really enjoyed: -winter melon lemonade*: light, well balanced and not too sweet with hints of tartness from the lemons. Love the winter melon flavor in this. -Ruby grapefruit: tart with grapefruit pulps. Recommend if you're looking for something tart -king of mango smoothie*: my kids and I really enjoyed this as an alternative to Yi Fang's mango sago. Not too sweet, loving the fresh mangoes used and not syrups. Love the green jelly it them. Slushy liked consistency. -Bo Bo strawberry smoothie*: a bit sweet for our liking, however, appreciate real strawberry used and our youngest child loved it. -sunshine li-li tea: passionfruit, orange juice, mango(?) - tropical and loving the sweetness with this one (can adjust sugar level). Very refreshing. *fixed and cannot make any adjustments - ice, sugar or toppings Only down fall I have about this place read more

Unfortunately have to give this a 1 star. Price has drastically increased for all drinks beyond what is reasonable compared to other shops. For example, the boba milk tea increased from 5.25 to 7.75 from 09/2025 to 10/2025. That's a 2.50 increase. Competing boba shops in area offer a similar taste but are much more affordable. Would not have came today if I knew about the updated pricing. Will not be coming back. read more

I've tried the Golden Oolong, Tieguanyin, and Peach Black Milk Teas. I can tell that the tea quality is very high, as all teas had a very nuanced flavor, but the flavors of all three were very light and had a hard time cutting through the nondairy creamer. Perhaps these would fare better with a splash of whole milk. What I appreciate most about this place is the cleanliness. You can see everything going on in the kitchen, and it is always well-cleaned and they never leave perishable ingredients out for long periods of time (I worked at a boba place where this was practiced and encouraged). When restaurants practice great food safety even though they can get away with not doing so, I always appreciate it! read more

The staff were very friendly and offered samples of several of the drinks available. Their drink quality is exceptional and I greatly enjoyed the flavor of both the Golden Leaf Milk Tea and the Sunshine Li-Li Tea. I will be coming back again in the future. Update: tried the green milk tea and the tieguanyin oolong milk tea this time around and both were very good. The green milk tea reminds me of a jasmine milk tea in case you're looking for that sort of flavor as it is very floral. I particularly like the strong flavor for the tieguanyin oolong milk tea though. read more

This place is one of my favorite boba shops in OC now. Macu Tea is definitely a hidden boba shop in Irvine. It took over the old Tiger Sugar Location in Irvine. The tea flavor is strong and boba is perfectly chewy. I would recommend 50% or 75% sweetness because it is a little on the sweeter side. My favorite drink is the Tieguanyin Tea Oolong. Giving it three stars because the business operations needs improvement. Lines were long because of the grand opening week but it definitely seems like the employees are not prepared for the stores opening. While waiting for our drinks, we observed the entire process and it seems disorderly, lacking efficiency from start to finish. The person brewing the tea kept spilling and dropping the cups and asking the person calling the drink orders for help, the person making the smoothies seemed confused at the process, and the the person calling the drink orders did not call the orders that were ready. Customers were missing drinks and waiting up to 20 minutes or more for one drink. We ordered the king of mango and passion fruit lili which was refreshing but if the store doesn't improve on its overall operations we probably won't be back. Also if you're confused about the menu like me they pretty much have 3 categories: Smoothies: blended drinks with included toppings Li-Li: fruit teas with pulp and bits of fruit Chi-Chi: drinks with cream on top And they have your regular tea, fruit tea( without pulp), and teas with milk read more

LOCATION: Irvine Center Dr/Sand Canyon PARKING: Lots WHAT WE ORDERED: * King of Mango Smoothie ($7.50) * Golden Leaf Milk Tea w/ Boba ($5.25 + $0.75) * Tieguanyin Oolong Milk Tea w/ Boba ($5.25 + $0.75) All the drinks were really delicious! I decided to order the #1 seller, the King of Mango Smoothie, and it did not disappoint. It has a lovely blend of mango, grapefruit (which I had a hard time discerning), coconut milk, and tea jelly (my favorite aspect of the drink). It was not super sweet, and it was very fruity and chunky. The only downside is that this drink was non-customizable, which was not a huge issue for me because the regular proportions were perfect! I didn't look at the price beforehand, and I ended up ordering an $8 drink with tax included lol, but it's fine because the drink had a lot going on, and it was their number one best-seller. The milk teas were milky and fragrant. I recommend adjusting the sweetness if you prefer a more prominent tea flavor. My friends got 30% sweetness and it was still a little too sweet. Their boba is really good. It has the perfect texture of bouncy and chewy and doesn't taste like plastic. read more
