A friend texted I need a great smash burger! I opened the Yelp app and found Mac's on Oakland. The menu had some great options and sounded yummy, so we decided to meet there and give it a try. Mac's delivered on all aspects of a wonderful, unexpected experience. Great casual atmosphere, friendly & present staff, enticing menu of burgers and sides. Sitting on the Hampton Inn property, Mac's is totally separate and NOT a hotel restaurant. As we walked in you see a small Market of select St. Louis goods. Great seasonings, chocolates and a few accessory items. The self-ordering station is the first stop with clear menu and pricing. Food is delivered to your table. The restaurant is large and rustic with many tables for 2-8 people. It looks like tables can be moved together for large parties. The bar area is large and very well done. Mac's location makes it very convenient stop when heading downtown for an event, visiting Forest Park or just looking a great local place to enjoy a fantastic burger with a small or large group. This will be a go to stop for us!
I rather enjoyed this place located by forest park! Once inside they have a bookshelf with kids books and toys and card games! Nice size tables for large families and smaller ones very very spacious place! We placed our order and I received it in about 8 mins quick service I got the smash burger open face taco it was DELICIOUS I recommend it to try something new! My husband got the garlic cheese burger which isn't pictured he demolished it so if you're a garlic lover he says it's the best fully loaded. The ooey gooey cupcake muffin was a nice swwwt treat we split it between us and agreed we appreciated the fact It had more filling than crust Will definitely patronize this place again They really mean LOCAL sodas from Illinois and food locally sourced. Check them out this was a first but def won't be the last!!!
First time at Mac's although it be been in the area several times at the next door Hampton Inn. Parking likely will be no issue, but it probably will be too close as you park in the hotel lot. The walk up was free of debris. I noticed they have outdoor seating with a TV. Upon waking in they have a cool local shop with various items. The counter to order is nearby. A menu board makes it easy to decide, but the staff was fantastic and assisted with questions. It's great to see staff so enthusiastic about their job, The dining room and bar are open concept. However they offer a side room that's a bit private and more quiet. The bar seats approximately twenty. They had business, but a tad slower on a weekday before close. Overall Mac's is a burger, fry and shake joint. They offer beef, pork, or both and a veggie variety. They also offer a few rotating salads, but did not have a Cesar I think as interested in. I ordered the most popular double menus the mustard. I also got a salad special chickpea. My wife and son also ordered the double, added fries and chocolate milkshake and Bottle drinks are available, as well as a full bar. They offer complimentary water in the dining room. My chickpea salad pushed out in minutes by a friendly expediter. About 5 minutes later another expediter brought out burgers and shake. Both expediters were very friendly and smiled. Everyone agreed the food was tasty. My salad was refreshing on a warm evening. My son liked his chocolate shake. but if you want a thinner version ask because it comes out very thick. A nice floating staff checked on us and cleared trays. So for me is a 4 to 5 type of place, but the service elevated the experience to a 5. I would recommend and return,
Mac's is a dependable spot for a good smashburger. I always have to stop myself from housing them in a few bites. My go-to is the Gooey Garlic. The workers at the counter are always friendly. It's a huge space with lots of seating and parking, so even at peak times it's never an unpleasant experience if you don't mind a noisy environment. The burgers themselves are decently priced, but once you're adding sides and drinks, it can be a bit much for a casual meal. Not to mention any basic sauces you want are another $2 each.
Love Mac's! Went for some food after a gin event and it hit the spot! Since it was between lunch and dinner, there were a few people in but not too busy. Spent some time looking at all the local products on the way to the window to order. I snagged some Ella and Ollie popcorn to take home. At the counter - Chelsea was bright and personable, it makes a big difference for those on the other side of the counter. She answered all my questions and took my order, rang up the popcorn, and I added some local eggs that she kept cold while we waited and ate. She was a treasure! After ordering, you get a number and find a seat to wait for your good. Grab your drink at the soda fountain if that is what you chose and get utensils and condiments at the station there. Didn't wait long and my double pimento cheeseburger arrived along with fries. So good! I love pimento cheese, and it went well with the double burger. I asked for the Hot Sauce Aioli on the side and dipped the burger in for each bite. Before I knew it, I had eaten the whole thing and half the fries! I just had water this time, but they have a great bar, too. Grabbed my eggs and left with some great local stuff from a great local burger place!
Macs is really good food, the burgers are amazing. Thin patties, lots of cheese and toppings. The other thing is you have to order the fries separate, the sandwich doesn't come with a side. We get blueberry lemonade which is good. They also have a lot of craft beers on tap One of the go-tos! The only reason I rate 4 stars because it closes so early and also you have to order there, with no exceptions, can't be ordered ahead or to go.
Another visit to Mac's Local Eats (after the heels trail at Forest Park so a deserved reward!) and went off the rails...nothing normal about my lunch choices this time. I went Fungus Amongus, Chili Crisp Marinated Celery and a Watermelon Lemonade. Everything was AWESOME. Not sure if the fungus amongus is a standard on the menu...if not grab it while it's available. What a flavor bomb! 2 standard beef patties, chestnut mushrooms, pickled peppers and house garlic aioli. I'm probably doing a disservice to Mac in my description as I'm sure the peppers and mushrooms are sourced special but this one is a classic in the making. The chestnut mushrooms (first timer, never had them before) added such a woody flavor and crunch to the burger...great flavor and texture addition. The peppers added a great "pepper zip", and the garlic aioli is awesome. Oops, forgot, provel cheese on top just to add another great flavor element and reason to grab extra napkins. And the marinated celery...wow, crazy good combination of Asian flavors, crispness and spice. Who knew??? Damn! This was soooo good I tried to find a similar recipe online...close but no Chili Crisp Marinated Celery. Next time in I'm going to see if Mac will share any secrets... No beer, watermelon lemonade this time. Get it, so refreshing! Been going to Mac's since the Tamm Avenue days and still finding new gems. Keep up the great work Mac, you have the best burgers in the country!
Been wantin' to check this place out for quite some time and glad I finally made it. The food was GREAT and the cocktail I had was DELICIOUS! The food came out fast and they seemed to be on top of clearing tables. Ambiance is pretty loud, but not entirely unmanageable. Seems they're geared towards families, and I think that's where some of the noise comes from. One other thing that I wasn't hugely fond of were the prices. I paid $20 for my 3 tacos and $13 for my Vodka Lemonade. So, for only myself, I paid $38.32 for 3 tacos and a cocktail (including service charge, STL City, and MO taxes). Almost $40 (before tip!). And that didn't include a side. I get it that prices are going up, but this just seemed too high for what I got.
This was my first time at Mac's and from all the hype I been hearing about the place, it did not disappoint one bit. The place very clean and roomie, so if the place was packed you wouldn't feel compacted. The service simple and easy and the staff was very friendly. The Dirty was spicy and delicious and pair nicely with the ripped fries. The milkshake was the cherry on top of the experience. I will be sure to return during happy hour to enjoy their booze selection with more great food.
I've been hearing all about this place and have been dying to try it out. They have a great menu with lots of options for anyone who has any dietary restrictions. The ordering concept is different but works really well for all parties involved. The food - WOW! I ordered the donut burger and was wowed by the all the flavors. Mac's has the best burgers in town! I also LOVE how much they highlight local St. Louis brands, like Red Hot Riplets, in their food. When you go: I highly recommend ordering the garlic burger - it will rock your world! They even offer toasted gluten free bread for your burger. Back again!! This remains our go to spot and comes highly requested by out of town visitors. The staff is always extremely friendly and quick to make recommendations. While it is a higher price point, it's nice to support local and a business using all local meats, produce, dairy, and more. They also have a gift shop of local products for holiday gifts. My order doesn't really change - gooey garlic add pickles and the rip fries are a must try. read more

Stopped by on a Sunday Afternoon with my boyfriend and his friend, we walked up to the counter to order and were all greeted by a super nice woman! Everything is made my scratch which was a nice touch. All the burgers and sides were separate making it a little more expensive but I still recommend trying everything out!! The gooey burger is a must try, super good it melted in my mouth, but next time i'm gonna try the ultimate gooey burger!! The vanilla milkshake was super good highly recommend. The Ripped mac and cheese special was good, but it was lighter and more pasta-y than a traditional, rich mac. The french fries were nice and crispy especially dipped in the ripped cheese sauce. All the servers were super cheerful and they even had connect 4 in the outdoor seating area, which had a good vibe (loved the artwork!!) read more
Came here bc I wanted a good smash burger. Did not disappoint. The bartender was very informative and allowed me to sample the Riplet seasoning on the chips ... he also made a great lemon drop for me while I waited for my food. If you're in STL... stop by and give them a try. read more

This place is always busy, and despite the amount of people in and out, we got our order in and food served to us very quickly. The burger was really good, and the red hot riplet fries are worth the visit! This place is quite pricy but if you want a good burger I wouldn't let that stop you. They also serve Excel products for soda and I think that's pretty cool too :) read more
This place has been on my list to get to for a long time since they relocated to Oakland Ave. It was a cold rainy Saturday, and the Foundry STL WAS JAM PACKED. So we ventured a bit further west to sample MAC's. There was a bit of a line at the order counter when we arrived, but it moved fairly quickly and before you knew it, we were up! The guy taking orders was super friendly and helpful in explaining the menu items and offering tips and ideas based on customer preferences. I ordered the Captain Classic, which had 4 patties (they're only 2 oz patties) and a pile of condiments. The burgers are served on toasted buns with beef tallow and the meat and most ingredients are locally sourced, as explained by Mac himself when we asked about the ingredients. Everyone enjoyed their choices and the fries were particularly good. Great burgers, great fries, and tasty drinks and shakes. Great staff serving and helping customers and a clean dining room. What's not to love? We will for sure be back again. read more

Been enjoying these burgers since they were on Lemp street tucked away inside a bar. Although the atmosphere hasn't changed much the menu has grown along with the new location. Bit to my disappointment it was lacking in flavor. I got my usual the Captains Burger, a decent 4 patty smash burger with cheese. Now I'm big on burgers there my thing I have on everyday if I could but once my burger starts tasting like burger meat I'm done. Everything about it wasn't there like there forgot to season it almost idk might have been a new cook. I'll give it another chance sometime in the future but for now I'll pass. read more

Stopped in on Christmas Eve and ordered the Gooey Garlic ($11.00) 2 Beef Patties, Two Slices American Cheese, Garlic Aioli, on a Toasted Bun brushed with Garlic Oil & finished with Sea Salt I live for a good smash burger and this one did not disappoint. I opted to not get the Provel Cheese as I'm just not a fan of it. It's Christmas Eve so the place closed early at 3:00pm. I'm glad we got there just in time to place our order. The place has a Bar and plenty of seating. Our Burgers to go were ready within 8 mins. Fast and friendly service indeed. read more
Macs has been at the top of my list for years! Finally stopped in yesterday when they had their famous donut burger special going on. Got just a traditional burger with the donut and it was great! Much smaller than I thought it would be- this was a good thing. My husband got the patty melt and the portion was huge. Both of us got a side of fries with cheese sauce to dip. They do fries well here! The menu is pretty expansive here. Something for everyone. Lots of seating inside and a large bar as well. You order at the front, take your number and take a seat. Food came out hot and prompt! Prices are fair and the people are friendly. We will absolutely be back!! I have to try the pimento cheese burger- drool. read more

We stumbled onto Mac's this fall while we were in town for a wedding. We stopped for a drink, but decided to try to their award winning burgers.....and wow it was awesome. We stopped back in today and I would call it maybe the best burger I have ever had! We had the Louie which is two smash burgers with grilled peppers and onions add a garlic aioli sauce! Every bit as good as I remember. The place has a great vibe and awesome staff.....very clean and good drinks. If you are near Forrest Park in St. Louis you must stop in! Also, get the "Rip Fries". They have a great crisp and seasoning with a good potato taste! I will eat there every chance I get! read more
Swung by Mac's since it's been years and was looking forward to the meal. The service was amazing. The lady was cordial and friendly. I had the burger, fries and drink and it wasn't bad. It is on the pricier side so keep that in mind. They've got plenty of seating spots so it's a good spot for lunch and dinner. read more

The moment I went on this places website and read the words "Local, grass-fed, and tallow" I was IN! If you want great burgers without junky ingredients this is your place! The ordering process was kind of a bummer, you have one person taking orders at the front so it kind of takes a while but once we sat down I felt like our food came pretty quickly. We all got The Classic burger which was a 2-3 patty burger with cheese, onion, pickle, ketchup and mustard and we got various sides. My side was the spicy fries which to me were not spicy at all but very flavorfulz. They will give you a free sample of chips with the spice on it to make sure it's in your flavor palette which I appreciated. My daughter and husband also got a side Cesar salad which must have been great because they both ate it all before I could snap a picture. The service was very friendly. I wish we could have tried the bar it looked good and the drink menu was extensive but we were in town for a soccer game so decided to skip the alcohol. The ambience is casual and the seating was pretty comfortable. Overall we really enjoyed it. It would be the first place I would recommend if you wanted a good burger. That's pretty much the only thing they offer beef and pork burgers but they do them very well without all the extra overly processed junk that goes into conventional burgers these days. Price wise...it was pricey for burgers but I will always pay a little extra for QUALITY ingredients! read more

If you've been searching for one of the best burgers in all of the Midwest, welp, don't look any further. Ordered up the Quad burger and saddled up to the bar. Fountain drinks are self serve and bartender served me up a kombucha that was straight money and ice cold. Burger was very simple and the meat quality spoke for itself. Paired with the riplet fries, wow! Make sure to get some dipping sauces besides ketchup. My only gripe is the ordering system is walk up to place your order and then they bring it to you. This is fine but with 1 cashier, can get busy really quickly. Not sure if bartenders can take food orders, if not, they should to speed up the process. read more

Burger was very good. I did ask for no cheese but lettuce, onion, mayo and jalapeño. I know lettuce onion and mayo are usually typically toppings for burgers. I paid close to an extra 2.50 for lettuce and jalapeños. Jalapeños were just four or five (does not equal $1) and one lettuce leaf does not equal $1.50. And no break on cost with no cheese. Burger was brought out well before fries. I like to eat my fries first and when the server said fries will be out shortly, was unaware shortly was over ten minutes. My burger was long gone cold. Paid $20 for a 3 patty burger with only lettuce onion mayo jalapeño and fries. Bill was $27 for just that. No drink. read more

We have been going to Mac's for years now and have yet to find a better burger than theirs! Their newest location is definitely my favorite. It's great to have them back in Dogtown. Mac's is a farm to table type restaurant. They serve whole animal dry-aged burger. It's the freshest best tasting burger you will ever have. My favorite is the double pimento cheese burger with their own house made pimento cheese. Make sure you try the fries seasoned with red hot riplet seasoning! Such a great addition. Don't let the line deter you when you get there. You do have to stand in line to order and it can take a little while sometimes but your food will come out quickly, hot, and delicious! And would the line be long if the food wasn't good? Of course not! It's worth every minute of the wait! Service is great! Food is amazing! Try a Ski to drink. It's a local Illinois drink. Be careful. First time trying the new location since they moved from Benton Park. It's kind of tucked away behind a hotel but there's plenty of free parking. You order right when you walk in and while there are menus on TV screens, they are kind of hard to look at since it keeps flipping to a different page so I recommend looking at the menu beforehand. I highly recommend the donut burger! It's not on the menu but if you ask about it, they can make it for you. I always get the veggie patties and it's delicious paired with a sweet donut. The Rip fries (Red Hot Riplet fries) are also a must! read more

This was a recommended to us as visitors for a great gluten-free option while visiting STL. The gentleman who took our order was kind enough to make recommendations, knew what was not gluten-free, and even went back to the kitchen to double-check for us. Customer service is great, food is amazing. Atmosphere is wonderful. Food cooked to order and delicious. The only thing, it was cold as a buzzards booty in there. It was 34° outside and it almost felt the same on the inside. read more

Gooey Goodness!! I'm not from the St Lou area, so I found this place through the handy dandy Yelp app!! What a concept!! So Macs is located in a kind of odd inconspicuous place amongst a hotel and residential area. But upon walking in, the place is hustling and bustling! Laughter, friends, families.... And food!! All of their food is locally sourced! The beef is aged 28 days! It is like eating an aged a steak on a bun! I asked the guy at the counter what he recommended and he was very helpful! I went with the gooey garlic burger, and the rip fries with a Mac's lemonade!! The burgers are smash style so when they say four patties, it's equal to about 1/2 pound.... I went with two. The garlic burger has garlic aioli and garlic butter. On first bite, the garlic was a bit overpowering, but as you continue eating and pairing with the spicy Ripfries, it all blends perfectly!! The lemonade is damn good!! And the watermelon squares give a nice refreshing kick! The staff is expedient and helpful! I'd like to try more offerings, but for now I say flock to this place! read more

These smash burgers are phenomenal- crispy, juicy, and delectable. I always get the Louie with vegetarian Pattie's, regular fries and the garlic aioli is perfection. My man friend gets the Captain with the Rip Fries. His one word to describe his pick is savory. Staff is friendly and make great recommendations if you're confused going to the bar. I chose the non- alcoholic-Love Your Heart drink this visit- and was very impressed with the bartenders knowledge of the ingredients. There's a large parking lot right across the street from the Hampton inn that always has plenty of space. Great for lunch, dinner, to catch a game or go after a visit to the Zoo! 5 stars read more

When we arrived there was a line out to the door. We waited about 30 minutes as it was first come first serve. It was definitely worth the wait. We ordered Gooey Garlic, Split Open & Melt, and Double Pimento Cheese along with Coconut Roulade. All the burgers had thin patties and the buns were soft. My favorite was Open Split & Melt. The dessert had that coconut flavor and the strawberry drizzle made it sweeter. One of the best desserts we've had. read more

This place was not what I expected. We visited for lunch after a trip to the zoo. We pulled up and it was connected to a hotel. The parking lot was a bit of a tricky turn to get in and out of but it was free. Once we walked inside there was a line and due to the crowd the food was a bit slow to make it to our table. Luckily we were entertained by all the shows on the tvs including Bob Ross. Everyone enjoyed their order. The flavor of my double pimento burger was good yet a tad on the dry side. The kids had fun with the fountain drink flavors. We would stop by again while in the area. The food is not something to make a special trip for. read more

Restaurant is visually pleasing, upon entry. Our order consisted of 1single patty burger, 1 double patty burger , 1 order of fries, 1 soda, and 1 water....total bill was nearly $34.000!!!!! Way overpriced for the food received. Smash burgers were the thinnest I've ever seen---the buns are too thick, over-powering the burger. The toppings (onions, pickles, ketchup, etc) were on the skimpy side, and some were totally left off, even though they were ordered. The fries weren't anything special. Soda machine was turned off...we had to tell someone about that. The burgers were tasty, but skimpy for the prices. We left the restaurant still feeling hungry. read more

Yes! And the staff will bring locally made treats for your pup!
Do they have beer at their new location?
It's coming soon. The city has taken their dear sweet time in getting them a hearing and then approval. Until then they still have great sodas and CBD waters!
Has something changed with their curbside pickup in the last few weeks? They used to be so fast even with 10-12 cars it was under 30 mins but now that same line takes over an hour.
The only time we end up with long waits is when cars in front of us have very large orders. They're also doing sidewalk orders now too so they have those people on top of cars.
Do they serve chicken sandwiches here?
They do not. They're a burger spot. They have beef patty, pork patty, and veggie patty burgers.
Is your veggie burger gluten free? Do you have gf buns? Thx.
Veggie burger is gluten free and vegan. It's a non-GMO soy based product from a local company Hungry Planet.…
Can you bring kids here? Where can I find a menu?
Bring them! We had our 11 month old with us and were able to snag a high chair. There is a dining area beyond the order window that is casual (and not next to the bar).
