I can say with ease...This was a big highlight of our travels thru Missouri....after an exhausting hot walk thru the Zoo only to point ourselves to the Hampton Inn for a quiet night in....Only to roll up to get a room and see a restaurant right in front of us....Huge relief as we hadn't even discussed food for the evening. Service was exceptional, and we were easily identified as "Your not from around here, are ya"....gave us the whole breakdown on the whole cow smash burgers and there red hot seasoning, including a sample bag of chips to test our heat tolerance....it was a perfect match for us. I'll tell ya...we rarely do burgers out, as I grind my own at home....but these were super legit smash burgers....coming in at 2oz each my only regret is not going with a quad burger...super crispy edges, fantastic flavor....and the buns were uber soft. You will be "hard pressed" to find a better smash burger in STL. It is so hard to crown a "best burger" overall each year. This place has won it from Sauce and RFT magazines before and definitely in my personal "top-tier" category. Food and Drink: Tried the South Side (basically a Big Mac), regular fries, and a Bloody Mary made with local Southside mix. All were outstanding and great service from the woman behind the bar. She was awesome and attentive. The prices are reasonable and the new-ish location by the Science Center next to a hotel offers lots of seating with a great full service bar. You order at the counter or the bar when seated there. Lots of local beer on tap and bottles. They strive to use local ingredients and even sell local products/condiments at a little gift shop. I purchased a book called "60 hikes within 60 miles of St. Louis" which was a hidden gem. Don't be surprised to hear the jam band Phish over the sound system. I randomly met the owner 'Mac' who was also bobbing his head to the tunes. Realizing he was the owner about halfway through our conversation, I asked about a picture of Anthony Bourdain located at the end of the bar. He took the candid picture himself during the Cajun Mardi Gras Parts Unknown episode in South Louisiana. He knew Chef Toby in the episode and took his team down for the for the event. It is the most casual and candid pic of Bourdain, by himself, drinking a beer, and watching someone cook. He seems relaxed and taking in the atmosphere without being hounded for his celebrity. Bourdain died like 6 weeks later. I feel that this picture captures the essence of "enjoy the moment." Burger were great and priced at what we would expect. However for the $5 bacon onion dip, the amount you get for that price is awful! Add in $4 for basically a 8oz cup of soda is rediculous!!! Especially when it's a child and they must likely won't even finish full glass, much less get a refill! The answer to that would be to offer to go cups for kids!! Burgers for two friday night, we were so excited to try Macs farm to table smash burgers. The restaurant has a nice local selection of goods and the ambiance was great. We ordered two gooey garlic burgers, one rip fry, one onion ring, a cheese sauce and 2 fountain drinks. $69.00 with tip, kinda pricey for what you get. The burgers were smashed, but no crispy edges, just smashed beef. 4.00 for a cheese sauce cup that was large but only half full. The fountain sodas were running out of syrup left and right. I ordered to go but ended up eating on the patio, I didn't even have to wait 10 minutes for my food. I got the Southside Mac + fried green tomato, & ripped chili cheese fries. The fries were golden crisp & perfect! Tossed in Red Hot Riplets seasoning for a spicy, smoky kick....I nearly forgot to add the chili cheese on top. The burger was so juicy and wayyyy better than a Big Mac. When I placed my order I saw a corner full of local goods like honey, sauces & salsa, and even some handmade soaps that smelled wonderful. The burgers at Mac's are the best! My favorite is the half-and-half. The fries are fabulous and the watermelon lemonade is so tart and delicious! The banana pudding cheesecake alone is worth the trip. The service is excellent. The person at the order desk is always so helpful, patient, and super friendly. This place is worth a stop! Yum! We came just after they opened and it quickly filled the tables on a Sunday. Ordered the Gooey Garlic Burger, fries, and cheese sauce. Each individually might have been some of the best food we have had. Really great. This is a casual space where you order before you sit. And if their food is good, their mission is better. Mac's Local Eats has exceptionally good smash burgers. These are the famous St. Louis style burgers with crispy edges. One of the things that stands out is their creative burgers such as the Double Pimento Cheeseburger with Pimento Cheese and a Fried Green Tomato. I also like the Classic Double with Provel topped with Egg for extra Protein. Everyone loves their fries. This is Mac's Third Location. There is indoor and outdoor seating. You order at the counter and then find a table. Take Out Orders are places at the Bar. Mac's new location shares a parking lot and parking garage with a hotel. This location is great for families as there is plenty of space- however there is no kids' menu or plastic cups for children. We did have toddlers drinking out of glass cups (bring sippy cups for the kids). I have been with large groups to small groups and the food comes out quickly no matter the size of group. We came in late and found out they didn't have bacon, in which they explained how they don't buy bacon, they buy the pig. So once they run out of bacon, they have to wait to get another pig in time. Fun tidbit. Their cheese sauce is a good addition too. Also, note, at the moment, they do not have beer or alcohol, except for CBD seltzers, because they're waiting for their license/permits. My brother and his girlfriend picked Mac's for dinner and I am glad they did. The staff is extremely friendly and explained the entire menu to us even though we arrived 45 minutes before they closed. I was sold when he said they have riplet fries since they are my favorite chips. The Louie burger was full of flavor and juicy. If I could give this place zero stars; I absolutely would. How this place became a go to burger joint in this town is completely beyond me. First let's start with the food. $10 for the smallest double cheese burger I've ever had, $4 for mediocre fries, and another $4 for a soda. If I'm going to spend $20 after tax for a burger meal, it had better be good, and this was not. I've literally had better smash burgers at Steak & Shake for a fraction of the price, and the fries were room temperature with barely any flavor. Also, if you're going to ask the staff for anything, make sure you do so before you pay. Once they have your money they don't care that it's taking them over 30 minutes to get you your food. They don't care if they forgot part of your order. I thought perhaps my experience was the exception, but a quick Google search shows it is not. The owner regularly berates customers, and that mentality has clearly trickled down to his staff. The restaurant itself has kept many of the furnishings from the pub that predated Mac's, so it is a unique environment. However, that's not enough to save this place from being another overpriced burger joint that vastly underwhelms. When coupled with the dismal customer service, this place is definitely a skip. Came to their popup at Bluewood Brewing on a Saturday evening. While the line didn't look too long they are, understandably, fairly slow to move through it, given there aren't too many people working the register, and they have a high takeout volume. After ordering we were surprised at how quickly the burgers were ready, so the overall wait wasn't too bad. Even if the wait had been significantly longer, it would have been well worth it. I had the Little Italy with a Fried Egg and it was one of the best burgers I've ever had. The meat was super flavorful, and I love that they make sure each smash patty has abundant crunchy bits around the perimeter. The combination of peppers, garlic aioli, and provel worked together nicely to bring a delicious flavor on top of the rich patties. As we were waiting in line the owner talked to us about their entire process and the different options they have, which helped to make an informed order. I appreciate the concept of this restaurant - using local, pasture raised, ethically-treated animal proteins. I love to support those types of restaurants. The burger was good, it just wasn't my type of burger preference. I got the gooey garlic burger. The burger patties are served "steak & shake style" where they are smashed paper thin and the outside edges are crispy. I prefer a thick burger that is moist all the way through without crispy edges. The gooey garlic has 2 patties, american & provel cheese, and garlic aioli. There weren't any other toppings on the burger. I like tons of toppings on my burger, but this place charges extra per topping (including extra fee for basic things like lettuce), and then the topping options were limited. They didn't have tomatoes or mushrooms to add to the burger. I enjoyed the garlic oil and sea salt brushed on top of the bun. Burger (which was small in size as well) ended up being like $14 after tax and didn't come with any sides. The only side choices they have are fries and chips - they don't even have sweet potato fries or a healthy option like side salad. Overall, the burger tasted good but was lackluster due to the lack of toppings, and it was small for the price paid. Ended up leaving still hungry. read more

Burgers are one my favorite meals so I was very excited to try Mac's after hearing all the hype. Because of the pandemic, they do a 'drive-thru' experience only. One thing to note is even if the line looks long, don't skip this place because it goes quite fast. We got in line when there were ~10 cars in line and got our food within 20 minutes. The server was VERY knowledgable and friendly given it was our first time there. We got double pimento burgers at the recommendation of our St. Louis friends. One thing to note is that the patties are thin and only 2oz so don't only get 1. I got 3 and my wife got 2 and it was the perfect amount. The burgers were delicious and I loved the crispy edges. The pimento cheese was different but in a delicious way. I could have gone without the fried green tomato but nothing major. The buns were also flaky and delicious, probably because they are toasted with lard instead of butter! We also got the RipFries; the seasoning wasn't too strong and the fries were very tasty. Came here prior to the pandemic. Located in st louis, it is definitely a great place to grab a delicious steak burger and fries. The service was fast at the time with the line not being too long and moving quickly. The decor of this place is really nice and there is a lot of seating in and outside of this business. Mac's is the perfect place to come with the family and enjoy a really good burger and delicious french fries. There are also other options you can get from here. There is also a large variety of drink options including a shop inside where you can also purchase bottles of soda pop. These also include the local soda brands from STL. My overall experience here was great. It is definitely worth the trip here. I highly recommend coming here and enjoying some awesome food. read more

Wow! I'd read and heard the accolades about Mac's being the best or one of the best burgers in St. Louis so I gave them a try. They did not disappoint. Their patties are 2 oz. each so I went with the classic burger with two patties. It was terrific. The fries were great too; they have salt and pepper. The service was terrific. Everyone was extremely friendly, like Chik-fil-A friendly. :) They were awesome. They have plenty of TV's if you want to watch a game. The place was immaculate. What a wonderful restaurant. I would need a taste test to see if Mac's is the best in town, but it's definitely one of the top three. I thought about knocking off a star from this review because a burger and fries cost $15. That is too expensive to me, but the ingredients are locally sourced and the experience was so great that I'll let it slide. I wish the food was a little cheaper though. read more
