It's pretty slow on week nights so you'll be seated quickly and service will be good. Now Friday night is a different story. It was packed which meant service was slower. Apparently one of the bartenders left early so the bar was backed up and drinks were inconsistent. The food is your typical American cuisine. read more

We go often and appreciate the large bar area. Typically order a burger or pizza which are solid choices. The bar staff are friendly, attentive and know their stuff! The drinks were excellent! well-balanced and consistent. You can tell the staff takes pride in what they do and they work well together. Located off 256 which is north hill rd., getting to the parking lot was a little confusing at night. Once we got to the lot there was a ton of parking. Its a chain restaurant so its ambiance is: it looked like every other location we have visited. Lots of wood. There is a bamboo-ish like wall. Its vibe is pleasant. Our server was Christa. She was super helpful and attentive. We came in for burger week. Didn't even look at the menu For 8 bucks you got a very thick burger with gouda, bacon, Ltop and pulled pork. Good deal. No. Excellent deal. It was pretty filling. I couldn't finish it. What was nice was you could get it cooked the way you wanted it, which now a days hardly happens. What was nicer is it actually came out the way we wanted it medium rare. That was very nice. Fries came with the burger. Ours were cold, so Christa brought us a fresh batch. They were the batter covered fries. Pretty good! Apparently they have a reward program. So if you are thinking of going download that first. We dont often do reward programs so we passed, but it seemed like if you were to frequent this restaurant it would be worth doing. Three stars mainly due to fries being served cold. Even second batch was a bit cold. Burger was very good, but not extraordinary. Still solid. A bit too thick for my liking but that is totally personal preference. Great menu from pizza to Italian dishes. Good beer & wine selection. We usually sit at the bar because the servers are great and we get our food quickly. Love the atmosphere of the bar area. They have a rewards program that has many great specials. If you don't get there early on Monday evening you may not get a place at the bar. Big shout out to Nichole, Marcie, Cody & sometimes Andrew. I have gotten the Chicken Alfredo before but when I went in April 16th it was so bad. There was no Alfredo sauce except a small amount on the bottom. I think the pasta was cooked a little less then al dente it was dry. Never again will I get that! They make great chicken tortilla, and French onion soup. My friend got the prospect burger. I was jealous of that because my meal was bad! They have good food just don't get the chicken Alfredo! Oh and they charged $2.50 just to get some sauce on it!! Meh, I'd keep driving if you've never been here. We stopped in for the Poutine and Rangoon Pizza. They didn't have either, which is my fault I Didn't check their website first otherwise we would not have stopped. The whole place was FREEZING. Bathroom was disgusting and even colder, decided to wait and go to a gas station. As for the food: Spring Rolls- Pretty Good but not stellar Lodgepoles- Very bland and the marina sauce was even more so. I compare this to CiCis. Reuben Pizza- Was not cut all the way, meat was very thick and chewy, very little kraut mostly burnt, cheese did not blend well with the pizza overall. I imagine this place uses the cheapest ingredients they can on all of their dishes (at least that was my opinion on the 4 items we ordered). Lastly, Tuscan Pasta, very dry and a little too spicey for my wife, but that's just personal preference. The worst part was the bread stick with the meal. It was as hard as a rock and I wouldn't have fed it to my dog. I don't typically bother staff with food corrections, especially in this case where I quickly realized that this is just how this restaurant operates. The best course of action is to warn others not to waste their money and stop at the many other places nearby. Staff was ok, but seemed slightly annoyed with our request to move away from the window seat due to the temperature. The inside had a very nice atmosphere overall. I suggest they turn on the heat and maybe start ordering from hello fresh instead of trying to run an actual kitchen, but I don't foresee them having an interest in producing a quality product. read more

What a nice surprise... We were looking for a place for lunch for lunch on New Years Day, and most places were closed. We ran across MacKenzie River. What a great find. The interior is really cool. The food was really good, but the service was off the hook great - Jordan is a Rockstar waitress. I had the fish and chips, which was delicious, the portion of the fish was small and the Cole slaw was small but they were both delicious. Wifie had the cob salad which she enjoyed. Baby girl had the cajun chicken pasta which she said was awesome. This place is worth stopping by. read more

VERY disappointed ! Menus were EXTREMELY dirty and sticky . That should have given us a clue to the overall experience we were about to have. Appetizer plates were brought out and the top one was clean ( or so we thought) the next three plates had food residue and straw wrappers. I guess they can't keep straight where to put the clean versus dirty plates. Started with the nachos which do not have blue corn chips like the menu said and the topping were scarce . They are just cheap chips. Fish was overcooked and had an awful taste like the grease was old / dirty . Had lunch here on Wednesday . Came specifically because last month had a delicious veggie wrap and was craving it again. This time so disappointed. Service was amazing. My wrap was missing some of the ingredients that made it so delish. There was no avocado nor any sprouts. The wrap did not have much taste - didn't even finish . They were served with stale blue tortilla chips. When I told our server she had them make fresh chips that were better. Upon arriving the parking lot was empty, and I mean empty. When we entered there may have been 2-3 table sat and my husband and I thought this was because it was a Wednesday evening. (Boy were we wrong). We decided to order an appetizer, we ordered the cowboy nachos, the came out looking like they were fresh from the microwave with some old brown guacamole on top. The only good thing from the nachos was the salsa which came on the side. The waitress only checked on us 1 or 2 the whole meal experience so when she asked how the nachos were, my husband said that they were not good and that the guac was bad. The waitress gave us an attitude and took the nachos away. Then my husband ordered the Cajun chicken penne pasta. When he tried it he looked as if he was going to puke, so I jokingly asked what's wrong with this. He explained that it tasted as if they didn't seasoning it and the chicken he had was burn, it had char marks and also had no flavoring. He laughed because the only thing he liked was the breadstick, he said oh look something with flavor. This coming from the guy who always finishes his food and never complains. Informed the same waiter that this also takes bad and she then took it and walked away saying nothing. When she returned she informed us that the penne pasta has been removed from the bill. Think this was my first experience eating Mackenzie River food. I ordered on their website for pickup for my parents and self. One small Cobb Salad w/ ranch and two Caesar Salads w/ "grilled chicken" ($5 up-charge per Caesar salad). I walk in to pick up our order, and one of the young gals said they tried calling but got the voice mail: She said they couldn't make our Caesar salads because "you can't get chicken with them (even though we checked the box to add it), but they could make it and add it for $7 more PER SALAD. Funny, cause my mom already paid for the added protein, so...? That gal had walked away to add the chicken to our bill, so I went and found another waitress, stopped and asked her, and she knew our order; she explained that the $5 chicken is cold chicken, if I wanted freshly grilled, that'd be $2 difference more for each Caesar. Didn't want to pay another $4, so my mom left it at cold chicken. I never did hear how the Caesar Salads turned out. Felling kind of mislead, when I got home and pulled out my Cobb, I was expecting some half-ass excuse for a shitty conglomeration of a Cobb, but was really happily surprised: packed into a nice sturdy small circular plastic container (the lid was attached), all the toppings where visibly present and an excellent quantity-to-price ratio. I dumped it out into a larger bowl, cut up the fresh lettuce with some handy scissors, tossed in their ranch dressing I got to accompany, and altogether, it was a great Cobb salad! The cold grilled chicken chunks were even soft and juicy, usually not the case when it come to chain restaurants that use up the leftover chicken from the nite before in their salad station. Anyway, apologies for the long review, but I was happy with my takeout salad, especially for it being quite full inside the restaurant when I got there to pick up my order. I try and stay away from chain restaurants as much as possible, but this experience and result turned out a-okay. read more

I was pretty impressed with my first visit to MacKenzie River. I loved the inside which had a nice, updated feel to it and the staff was doing a good job mixing practicality with all the covid measures in place. Our waiter was a little quiet, but polite and got our orders right to accommodate us making a few slight changes to our meals. I ordered the Kodiak which is a two patty burger which comes with a side fries. The burger was fantastic and the fries were some of the best I ever had. My wife got Pulled Pork Nachos and thought it was the best plate of nachos she'd ever had. We finished it off with their version of a "Pizookie," a warm cookie pie with ice cream, and this was just as good as our main course. Simply put, the food was high, high quality and the menu has so many delicious looking items to choose from. I also found the bill to be surprisingly cheap. I think it's a great bang for your buck and was the icing on the proverbial cake for our night. The only complaint I have is the food and dessert each took a longer than usual time to come out, so plan accordingly, but it's well worth the wait. We will be adding this to our list of "Go To" restaurants! read more

Went in for a quick dinner. I don't stop here often, but the food is generally good. They weren't very busy as it was a weeknight. The atmosphere is pretty cool inside. I like the outdoor/rustic feel. We were sat, and the waitress came over to get our order. We started wit the Apple Chicken Flatbread. It was delicious, great flavors and the crunch of the flatbread was a great texture combination. I ordered from the restaurant week menu which included French Onion Soup, Dill chicken Sandwich and a Cookie skillet. The french onion Soup was pretty standard, broth, a few onions and bread and cheese. The dill sandwich was good, marinated in Dill pickle juice and with fresh dill on top, it was wonderful. The fries were amazing. Battered fries had a great crunch and soft and creamy center. The warm cookie was a great sweet treat to end the night! Overall a good experience. The atmosphere of this establishment is fantastic and has a rustic look. Found it to be clean and the service provided by Nikki was great. They play a nicely selection of music, a little to please everyone. They also have an open area to sit outdoors. A plus is that on the booths and bar area have outlets so that you may charge your phone and/or other devices. The food was a bit/miss. The "Grizzly Burger" and fries was good while the appetizer "Apple and Chicken Flatbread" was less desirable. You will see the picture from after. The flatbread was too crunchy or tasted like a cracker and the "goat cheese" didn't taste like goat cheese. What gave it the taste was the BBQ sauce.
