    Chocolate Expresso mousse cake
    Mike C.

Couldn't bear lowering his rating. A couple of weeks ago, this new maker was listed and featured on Pastel. In seeing the menu, I didn't hesitate in adding an item to the other foods that I already planned to order for that particular week. I waited two or three days before I finally tried the chocolate expresso mousse (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=RWWw0P00vXzGo_Qh7LmnOg&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q). described as follows "Chocolate cake, chocolate-espresso mousse, Bailey's chocolate glaze, cacao nib chocolate croustillant, vanilla chantilly, tempered dark chocolate decor". Let's just say that it tasted as good as it looked. This is definitely a fine dining restaurant quality creation and a definite must try if you are a chocolate coffee fan. It was interesting to learn that he used to bake at one of my longtime regular business lunch and celebratory dinner spots in town. This maker is now on my radar and I look forward to seeing his other offerings.

The presentation of the box is really really cute and it has a cute box that is a great gift. I definitely recommend this place for desserts since its all personalized. The biggest downsides to this business is that it seems as tho the owner sells from his home and doesn't have a lot of parking for people to come during his pickup time which is a 1 hour window. The response time from the owner is very professional and responds in a timely manner if you have any special requests. The items i got from his aloha goodie themed box was advertised on his Instagram and thata how I made my decision to get this snack box.

I decided to splurge this time for our anniversary cake since we weren't planning on having a super fancy dinner to celebrate our anniversary and was not up to baking my own. We celebrated with my sister, her hubby and daughter, so we could share this special cake with them. A four layer six inch cake is a lot of cake and perfect for sharing. Though I found Mack on Instagram, I ordered his cake via email and paid for it via Square. He emailed me his menu which has a nice selection of cakes but I ended up asking him if he could make one of the cakes he posted on IG for me. The hubby is not a fan of red beans so the Ube cake on the menu would not suit him. I ordered the 6 inch Ube Sponge, Ube Buttercream, Coconut Buttercream, Caramel and Ganache cake with a Marble finish a couple of weeks before I needed it. He's very busy with cakes and his snack boxes, so inquire and order ahead. We picked up the cake from his house in Oakland on a Saturday afternoon. It was nicely packaged. It looked incredible, so beautiful! Tasted great too. The Ube sponge is very light and both buttercreams were delicious. Everyone really enjoyed it especially me. I'm a baker myself so I have very discriminating taste! :) The Marble finish is just so impressive. You wouldn't think a six inch cake would be that much but it is. We ate some with the fam, left a huge slice for them and ate it for 3 more days. Definitely worth the price. I would totally love to order another cake from him! I'd also love to try one of his snack boxes as well.

The one thing I'm actually thankful for during this whole Covid-19 pandemic is how it introduced me to so many amazing food entrepreneurs out there. MackBox is one the top ones, with great branding and marketing of his desserts, making you want to order more each time. His extremely creative items with Filipino and French influence are downright genius. His boxes have a nice assortment which makes it hard not to eat all of the items in one sitting. The one item that I keep a watch for is his turon pie. Omg, there's a party in my mouth with that one. I'm hoping to try one of his cakes in the future, when I have enough people around to share it with. Check him out and follow him on IG!

Got their box of goodies and everything was delicious. My favorites include the Chex mix with their seasoning/flavor and the ube butter mochi. The thought and quality of the treats are exquisite and thoughtfully done. Fortunately, delivery was available, and we were able to get these treats delivered in a timely manner when we ordered ahead of time. Everything looked and tasted amazing. Will plan to perhaps try other items as well.

I've picked up a habit... a Mackbox snackbox I'd like another box in a big box habit! I've never been so delightfully surprised until a birthday of mine during COVID prompted a dear sister friend of mine to gift me a delivery of the Mackbox. The contained goodies weren't in the box for long... From the ube cookies to the brownies to the cupcakes to the furikake chexmix to the hazelnut puff and the blondie bars! Ugh! I just love how carefully crafted and made with love these items tasted! I ordered for myself and found the price to be very reasonable to include delivery from the baker himself... and for the meticulously packaged yumminess... including a well thought of menu and description printes out. I was so lucky to have gotten a box. This business is definitely worth an IG follow and a box reservation if you find your sweet tooth throbbing for a satisfying sugary selection!

I am a HUGE fan of MacBox! I have bought the Kitty (tropical cake) and Champurado Cream Pie! It is soooo delicious! The texture, flavors, size, and more are well balanced. Slices of heaven I must say! The furikake mix is sooo tasty too! I just placed my order for the Arnielyn cake. I can't wait to try! Maraming salamat Mack! You're the best!

SO. GOOD. The Ring of Fire Chex Mix is something I crave DAILY. Literally everything was fantastic and seeing all the new different things going into boxes is amazing. I can't wait until I'm able to order these across the country! The packaging looks great, it was exciting to open and see what was inside. Even the bags are compostable and recyclable which is awesome for getting away from single use plastics. Get one. You certainly won't regret it.

WARNING: the white truffle furikake chex mix is addicting af. I also love the brown butter blondie with white chocolate and macadamia nuts. Everything I've tried from MackBox has been so good! I follow his IG: mackbox_ to keep tabs on what's being added to his menu next and suggest you do the same :)

Beautiful food and packaging! Surprised my friend for her birthday who has been wanting to try MackBox!

Really happy with the cupcakes and working with Mack! Really easy to place orders and communicate with him and there are options for pick up and/or delivery. And the goodies- yum! 100% enjoyed by family and friends. I have only tried the cupcakes which have great flavor, aesthetic appeal, and have the right amount of sweetness in my opinion. The most popular flavors are HellaHaloHalo and Hella Chocolate, but I don't think you can go wrong with any of them! Also vegan options! Looking forward to trying more items and flavors!

MackBox.. WOW. Not only are his desserts super delicious, Mack is also very responsive and punctual when it comes to deliveries. This mousse cake is the best I've ever had. It has the perfect balance of flavors and textures, which is hard to perfect but he got it down! What I loved is that he checked in the next day to see how I liked my order. Don't sleep on this guy, he knows his stuff!

The moment you walk into the shop, you'll notice the current flavor offerings displayed on colorful ice cream-shaped signs across the wall to the right. I could spend an eternity studying each flavor, but there's limited space to queue indoors so really gotta decide on a flavor and serving style fast in order to keep the line moving. Among the flavors were some classics, fruity/floral mixes, and dessert-inspired ones too, a whole range so there's something for everyone. I got the Breakfast Brownie and it was unforgettable! It tasted creamy and delightful without being overwhelming, while the cornflakes mixed inside added a satisfying crunch to each bite. I came back a second time before a show at Crybaby, a smaller venue across the street. Grabbing a scoop here to-go has naturally become part of my pre-concert routine at this point and I plan to come back again next time to explore more flavors. If you're ever heading to a show nearby, I'd definitely recommend stopping by beforehand for a lil energy boost and treat.

Also, whoever they have making their flavors is super creative! They list out all the flavors on the wall on super cute little ice cream scoop cut outs for you to browse while you wait in line. It is definitely more of a takeout ice cream spot with not a ton of seating so you either gotta get lucky with seating, wait for a spot, or take it to go. We got the pandan strawberry and the milk & cookies + cream. Next time I stop by I really want to try out their sundae!

I had to update my review because Gregory's is absolutely the best bakery in town!…read more First of all, Gregory is incredibly kind, and his desserts are AMAZING. A few years ago, there was definitely a dip in communication when I was trying to order a birthday cake, but since then, I've had the pleasure of enjoying Gregory's treats many times. His cheesecake is truly unlike any I've ever had. The chocolate brownies and chocolate chip cookies are so good, they'll make you feel like you're not even on planet Earth! Seriously, they're that delicious. And the chocolate cake? It tastes like it was baked by a sweet Southern grandmother. It literally melts in your mouth. I'm almost embarrassed to admit that every time I go, I buy all four items and happily eat them over the next few days! Hands down, Gregory's is the BEST BAKERY IN OAKLAND. If you haven't been yet, you're missing out!

I've heard many things about Gregory's Gourmet Desserts but tried it today for the first time…read more Parking was a challenge, with the location being nestled within downtown, closer to Lake Merritt. I was surprised that no one spoke of business specifics in their reviews. There is a limit to how many can come in; and you are not allowed to touch anything when inside. There are also no prices listed anywhere. We thought this was odd. Our order: * Personal Peach Cobbler * Walnut Brownie * Banana Pudding For these 3 items, our total was over $25. The service was friendly but a bit awkward. You are only able to see cases of dessert options, it is more of a pick-up point, not so much a bakery location you can browse. I wouldn't suggest coming as a large group, there is no where to sit to enjoy your baked goods and parking is very difficult. While the cobbler and banana pudding were good, I wasn't a fan of the brownie. My partner enjoyed the cobbler a lot, but when we did the calculations, the prices were astronomical. I'm not sure what gourmet difference the items contained, but we likely would not come back to this bakery considering prices and parking. The location is cute, in theory, but with no actual location or displays, or price lists- what you pay for doesn't balance out. The lack of transparency for prices was very sus to us. I'm sure the business will continue on especially with how much they charged. I can't imagine the bakery location and building rent costing a lot as far as operating costs; as it is small, and not expansive at all. The price of the baked goods doesn't even go towards branded packaging. Which could be understandable. The only beverages available that I seen was Nesquik. Steep prices with no justification - especially when you have other bakeries in the area, in addition to Nation's for Pies, very affordable and classic as well. E&J's has a great banana pudding and cobbler as well for $6- they are also a Black-owned business and family operated. Absolutely no bad intent, just wanting to share transparency in my review so Yelpers know that prices are not listed, which means they are subject to fluctuation- in this economy that is not a fair way of doing business. One star per item we liked, for this review. As much signage is visible upon entry regarding rules and limited persons for entry at a time- not one area provided prices; only signs that tell you not to touch. It's required by law for prices at every establishment to be listed, according to SB 478 for general consumer goods and services in California.

Overall, it's been a good experience every time. Parking can be challenging depending on the time of day. Most of the parking is on the street, so you'll need to keep an eye out for pedestrians and bicyclists while looking for a spot. That's probably the biggest inconvenience of visiting this place. There is usually a 15 to 20-minute wait whenever we come for dessert, but we've always been seated within the quoted wait time, which we appreciate. The restaurant itself is fairly small, so the dining area can feel crowded. Tables are very close together, and you're practically sitting back-to-back with other guests. Because of this, the noise level can get pretty high, and it's easy to overhear conversations from nearby tables. The desserts are the highlight here. The BingSu is excellent, and the lava cake is one of our favorites. The menu is accessed through a QR code, making ordering simple and convenient. Food portions are decent, although prices are definitely on the premium side. Service is efficient, and the food and desserts usually arrive pretty quickly. We used to go to their city location regularly, but over the years we've found ourselves visiting this location more often because the area feels more comfortable and convenient for us. That has made this our go-to spot whenever we're craving dessert. Overall, this is a great place for dessert. The quality of the desserts keeps us coming back, but the difficult parking situation and cramped seating prevent it from being a full 5-star experience. Would definitely return for the BingSu and lava cake.

My personal favorite is the Kyoto Matcha - the matcha is high-quality, with a vivid green color and rich flavor that balances beautifully with the creamy cheesecake base. The Original is a classic for a reason with deeply caramelized top and creamy interior. I also tried the Iribancha, a roasted green tea flavor. It's intense, smoky, and unique..maybe not one I could finish in one sitting, but definitely memorable and recommend for those who want that earthy/smoky taste. The truffle was also a standout, adding just enough umami to round out the sweetness. Preorders drop via Instagram (@basukucheesecakes) and sell out lightning-fast.
