This review is based on two different visits. The first time we enjoyed the food so much, we brought our dad over the second time for Fathers Day! Between these two visits we ordered quite a few dishes so I'll discuss the highlights, both good and so so. Excellent: Papa rellena Porcíon de Chicharrón - roast pork dinner, which was tender and flavorful, the only thing I didn't like was the side, which was yam slices which were quite bland Bistec a lo Pobre - hungry man's dinner, steak with fried hot dogs, fries, eggs and rice, my sister got this and I took a few bites, and it was great! Crema Volteada - flan, dense and delicious Good: Rotisserie chicken - made in a big rotisserie oven you see when your walking in. Very tender and tasty Calamari Yucca frites Sopa a la Minuta (creamy tomato soup with angel hair noodles) Cabrito a la Norteña - lamb slow cooked in a spicy sauce, pretty good but lamb was dry Okay: Cau de Mondongo - tripe with veggie/potato medely stew. Okay, but nothing special, I've had tripe prepared many different ways, and this dish was a little boring. There are dishes here that are reasonably priced, but overall it's a little pricey. Service is very friendly and attentive, and the pisco sour and sangria are very good! read more

My in-law's first took me here a few years back and even though it is completely out of the way for me, I get the craving every now and then and I make the 90 minute drive. I can't say much for most of the menu other than that every time I go I order the same thing - Milanesa de Carne. I actually don't think this on the menu but they make it for me anyway. My in-law's always order the same thing too - Arroz Chaufa de Cerdo (which is essential Peruvian fried rice). I love my milanesa de carne and the portion is huge. The fried rice my in-law's order I laughed at the first time around - but wow, it's good. The Platano Frito is awesome. The Yuca Frita can be hit or miss. The service is efficient and friendly. The neighborhood is a bit suspect but street parking is plentiful, albeit metered. read more

The best Peruvian food I've eaten in years. We ate here about 6 years ago and recently returned to the area. We were excited to see that the restaurant was still there and even more excited as we began to taste our dinner. My wife enjoyed a great Pisco Sour and I had a Cusqueña beer. The Pisco Sour was great! For dinner I ordered escabeche de pescado. The flavors in the fish and camote (sweet potato) were beyond delicious. My wife had sopa a la minuta and it was amazing. The following evening I returned for some ceviche mixto. Again I was a very happy customer and look forward to returning for more!!! My wife is Peruvian and we have eaten in numerous Peruvian restaurants (DC, NY, NJ, Peru, etc) and this is one of my favorites. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience from the patience of the staff to answer all our questions about the menu selections to surprisingly having us sample 2 of our wine choices we were deciding between The dinners were delicious. The atmosphere inviting and comfortable....I don't have the time to elaborate... I would have given 5 stars but for no fault of MachuPichu, it was disturbing to be approached by people asking for money. I am very sad for the people and I said prayers for them. We were shopping at the Woodbury Commons Outlets, and decided to grab dinner away from the touristy areas. Yelp led us to downtown Newburgh, with plenty of great options. We briefly debated between the Mexican restaurant and Peruvian restaurant, and in the end, went with Peruvian. The dinner start to finish took a bit longer than we expected. The kitchen was fairly busy because of some larger groups that placed their orders before us. I frequent Peruvian restaurants on a regular basis, and was excited to see entrées on the menu that I had not seen elsewhere. We went with the Carapulcra and Cabrito a la Norteña. Both were unique and delicious. The only thing I missed in the restaurant is the crunchy corn, which I prefer over the bread which they had brought. read more

Amazing ceviche! Last time I had ceviche this nice I was living in Manhattan. Sadly the Peruvian restaurant down the block from me moved to Queens. I was looking for a dinner place for my friends and I on our road trip upstate. I came across this restaurant because I love Peruvian food! We got sat down quickly because I made a reservation. We were asked if we wanted bottled water because the water is contaminated. Umm what?! Is that true?? It's just weird for a waiter to tell us that. So we each got a bottled water for $2 each... After that, we waited quite a while for the waiter to take our order even though they saw us waiting. Therefore I had to finally speak up and say we were ready to order. While waiting for our food, I've noticed another waiter go around different tables with a pitcher of ice water to refill other customer's glass. This really got me annoyed like WERE WE BEING LIED TO? IS IT BECAUSE WE ARE OUT OF TOWN AND MAYBE THEY ARE BEING HONEST AND GIVING US A HEADS UP OR ARE THEY JUST MAKING MORE MONEY FROM US BY CHARGING US BOTTLED WATERS...?? We had an amazing dinner last night. The restaurant is clean and completely covid compliant. The food is excellent we ordered a few different apps so we could all enjoy. Small restaurant in downtown Newbergh. Waitresses are very nice and helpful with menu. At lunch it was quiet and easy to converse. The ceviches are wonderful and you can easily make a meal out of these appetizers. The Incan/Peruvian dishes are quite good and should be tried. Meals are large and quite filling. read more

Machu Picchu has made our move to the Hudson Valley so much more better. The ceviche is to die for, the flan is immaculate, and you can pick any entree with full confidence that your palette will be satisfied. From the outside, this place does not look anything different from your local taco joint. But step inside and feel a transformation of environment from day to night. Did not expect such an exquisite authentic-style Peruvian restaurant in Upstate NY. From the moment you walk in and are greeted by the host, to the end of your meal, this place makes you feel comfortable. Although a little empty for a Saturday night, I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere surrounding me. The waiters took their time I explaining the differences in the dishes and even participating in some banter. These guys were great that by the end of the night we had all the waiters hanging out with us sharing some laughs. On to the food, the best part. The empanada came out and was crispy and the filling was delicious! The pickled red onions gave the empanada another level of delicious. The Peruvian style chicken (rotisserie chicken) was nicely seasoned and with a juicy crispy skin. The rice was nice and firm, more than enough for two, while the Yucca fries were enjoyable with the creamy yellowish sauce they offered, it had a bit of a kick too it which complimented the fries. Keep in mind that the orange/red sauce is pretty spicy! The chicha morada is definitely a no brainer, sooo refreshing and yet not overwhelmingly sweet. Good food, interesting sauces, a little pricey. We had roasted chicken and bistek over pesto pasta. No complaints on the food; it was flavorful, authentic, and plentiful. We had two sauces, one orange, spicy and sour. The other was white and vinegary. Oops, I don't remember the names. Overall, give it a try. I had this place bookmarked and I'm super happy I did because this place its great. I came here and the place wasn't crowded but our server was so nice and attentive. We decided to start with the tostones with mojo (garlic sauce) and they were good, I like my tostones a little flatter but they were good. I got to try the pisco sour and red sangria, both were really good. For my entrée I went with the arroz con pollo which was no the typical rice mix with chicken dish but instead a side of cilantro rice that was to die for, with a chicken breast in a delicious sauce and cold potatoes. I couldn't stop eating the rice and chicken since the flavors were amazing. My friend had the pork and I had a few bites and it was really good too. I was a little upset I couldn't finish my meal and since I was so far from home I couldn't take it with me. Next time I'm in the area I will be coming here the food its just that good. read more

The flavors were great the pisco sour was great and strong. The desert was devine as well. The decor was beautiful they were closing and they didn't kick us out. My dinner and the dinner of my three other guests was very disappointing at Machu Picchu. The seafood paella and another mixed seafood dish was very average (the seafood did not taste fresh but rather frozen and thawed) and I found the rice with these dishes very sticky and clumpy. The cabrito (goat) meat was inedible. To make matters worse, the management (with only 4 people in my party) added in an 18% gratuity to the bill and then taxed both the food with the gratuity. Who taxes the gratuity? This restaurant lost me as a customer and I would not recommend it. read more

May 16th was perhaps the 5th time we have been to Machu Picchu in Newburgh in the year since we bought a house on the outskirts of town. Coming from Monroe, we were used to having plenty of good restaurants at our disposal, so it's been a bit of a challenge finding some above average spots here in Newburgh, but Machu Picchu definitely is one of them. On this occasion, we were celebrating our son's college graduation, and we had members from both families at the dinner, almost all for the first time at the restaurant. Seeing as as the lineage of our families is of Puerto Rican, Spanish, and Italian descents, picking Machu Picchu for this evenings dinner seemed a no-brainer. Starting off with appetizers of fried yuca, delicious seasoned & fried pork chunks, relenos de papa (wonderful twice cooked potatoes stuffed with meat, eggs, and spices), really got the meal started off on the right foot. Our waiter paid extra special attention to our table, and even conversed with most of our party in Spanish, which made everything even easier. When the enormous entrees came, everyone's eyes lit up. Seasoned and grilled skirt steaks, Peruvian Paella, Whole Fried Snapper, Seafood Medley's, you name it, not one person was unhappy with their dishes. And, everyone indulged in some delicious flan for dessert-perhaps the best flan to be found in Orange County. The overall service was fantastic-the owner even comes over every so often to make sure everything is OK. Half our party went home with doggy bags (yes, you get a LOT of food here), and for a party of 8, the bill was very reasonable. If you've never had Peruvian food, you owe it to yourself to try it from one of the most acclaimed restaurants in the Hudson Valley, Machu Picchu. read more

I don't live in the area, but was visiting family and we decided to try Peruvian food since we'd never had it before. We placed an order for pick up at 3:10 on a Sunday for 3 entrees and 2 ceviche appetizers. We were told it would be 20-25 minutes, which was perfect because it would take us just that long to get there. I arrived at the restaurant at around 3:30, paid my bill, which was $7 more than I was told over the phone, and was told it would be out any minute. I waited.....and waited....and waited. A man who may have been the manager or owner assured me at around 3:45 that my food would be ready soon. I continued waiting..... At 3:55 the manager-type man told me my food was ready and pointed to the three bags that were on the counter. Now, I know this is a minor detail, but shouldn't you HAND the food over to a person instead of just pointing at it and telling them to take it? I left in a very sour mood. What was the point in calling ahead when I ended up waiting around for an extra 20 minutes? We just hoped the food would be delicious to make up for the terrible service. We ordered two orders of lomo fino al pisco and one of the carapulcra, as well as a shrimp ceviche and fish ceviche. The lomo fino al pisco was delicious and came with a lot of food, however it was almost $25, much more than what I pay in the city for similar type food. The carapulcra was a rip off. It came with about 8 little pieces of chicken and an abundance of potatoes and rice. Although this meal was cheaper at about $13, it was still overpriced and very disappointing. On the bright side, the ceviche was quite good and had very good flavors. Unfortunately, it isn't worth our time or money to go back. I read other reviews saying they treat Hispanic customers better than non-Hispanic. I'm Cuban and speak fluent Spanish but I'm light skinned and didn't speak to the employees in Spanish. Perhaps if I had, I wouldn't have been cheated and would have received my food on time. Who knows, maybe they would have given me more chicken too... read more

I always love going to Macchu Picchu...but don't recommend sitting in the front windows because sometimes you see things on Broadway that you might not want to! I loved this restaurant! My whole family thoroughly enjoyed all the food. First off I'd like to mention that we're from the city where there are plenty of great restaurants and we were very skeptical about eating in this town but we were pleasantly surprised. I ordered the bistec esecballano(?) (apologize for misspelling) DELICIOUS! It's slim cut beef garnished with grilled tomatoes and onions in a nice garlic sauce. Served with rice. Oh and don't let me forget to mention how TENDER the meat was! I had a full plate and no leftovers. My mom had the chicken with cilantro rice. Very good. And my sister ordered a traditional plate for which I forget the name. Also tasty. Moral of the story is the food is good. Now I know not many may agree with me but I believe that as long as my food is amazing I don't care how the waiters act. All I know is my food better be good. It was and so was our waiter. i had dinner their with my family 12,/24/16 Christmas eve. nice it was open unlike most other restaurants and very welcoming despite the day before the holiday. the waiter was very polite and explained well any questions we had and check up on us for refills and if our food was good. the food was yummy, i had the chaufa with beef, it was cooked perfectly and beef was perfectly tender. glad the rice was nice once before here i had rice so fresh it was steaming. glad it was warm. hah. the place is bit pricey and it sucks you pay for each refill of soda. so stick with water. overall its very nice here and the waiters are decent. they are great for take out as well. read more
