Chili cheese tater tots and buffalo gator tail.

Great little restaurant with a great view. Buffalo gator tail isn't on the menu but they made it for me anyway. Our service was fantastic. If we are ever in the area again, we will definitely be stopping by.

Be ready and be hungry they have a 1/4 pound cheeseburger, a 1/2 pound burger, and a 1 pounder cooked order with all the fixes. They also got a great patty melt an excellent Philly steak.

This is a hit or miss kind of hole in the wall. It's usually pretty good but it's never been bad.

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by a high-energy, friendly host staff that immediately made us feel welcome and set the tone for the evening. I started with the Prince Edward Island oysters on the half shell, which were fresh and excellent. My wife enjoyed the grass-fed filet mignon, while I ordered the 45-day dry-aged ribeye. Both steaks were outstanding - incredible flavor, perfectly prepared, and exceptionally tender. The experience went far beyond just the food. One of the owners, Billy, introduced himself and then personally brought over two glasses of champagne to congratulate us on our anniversary, which was a very thoughtful gesture (even though my wife doesn't drink alcohol and champagne isn't my preference). The restaurant manager also made a point to stop by and congratulate us. Our server, Aidy (pronounced "eighty"), was awesome. Extremely knowledgeable of the menu, attentive, and genuinely enjoyable throughout the evening. As is tradition at Halls, they brought out and displayed the various cuts of steak while explaining the characteristics of each - a great touch that added to the experience. We ordered the mashed potatoes and the pepper jack creamed corn skillet for sides, both excellent. Dessert was the perfect finish: vanilla crème brûlée and whiskey bread pudding. One thing that really stood out was how well orchestrated the entire restaurant operation felt. From the hosts, to the servers, to the managers and support staff, everyone worked together seamlessly to create a polished and memorable dining experience. The staff worked hard, and each person clearly knew and performed their role perfectly. It was impressive! The dining room itself had a loud, energetic vibe that added to the atmosphere of the evening and fit the overall Halls experience perfectly. Honestly, there's not much we could have asked to be better. Halls delivered an exceptional dining experience all the way around.

She suggested a great wine and even brought a sample to try prior to us making our selection. We started with a few appetizers. The fried calamari was not very impressive as it looked like store-bought calamari rings, and it wasn't real hot. The oysters Rockefeller did not have a lot of flavor and again not very hot kind of lukewarm in temperature. Not sure I would get either of these appetizers again. We chose a wedge salad, which was very good. Had nice chunks of blue cheese and a nice creamy dressing. Everything is served à la carte. The small sides are enough for two people to split. Where is the large is big enough for four people. I chose the bone in pork chop, which was pretty good, but the presentation was not all that great. My side was the stuffed mushrooms from the appetizer menu and they were delicious. My husband had the ocean 17, which he really enjoyed great flavor on the scallops and grouper he ordered a side of brussels sprouts, I thought they had a little too much balsamic in them. For dessert, my husband had the pecan pie with vanilla ice cream. It was served warm and it was delicious. I had the strawberry cake which was amazing. Felt like the prices were a little high, but the service was great.

My last time was during December 2025, and we were seated at 5 PM and walked out at exactly 6:30. The cream sauce is super flavorful and the whole thing just works. And if you order an app, try their loaded country chips. When we were seated, we were given our menus as well as a piece of paper warning us of a long wait. While that's not a great sign, honestly I prefer to have that expectation set up front and having the chance to say "nah, not for me" rather than being grumpy about the wait. I highly suggest that you take this seriously and get appetizers. We ordered the nachos and they were pretty decent. Beef was nicely spiced with taco seasoning. The sign told us 10-20 minutes for the appetizers, I think we were closer to 30, but we knew to not expect super speedy food so I can't be mad about it. It took 50 minutes from the nachos to get our entrees (I wasn't timing it, but I took the picture of the nachos and it had the time on it), which was riiiight about what we expected from the sign we had been given. Again, setting expectations goes a long way to minimizing disappointment and Montana's did well here. My son liked his burger and fries. My daughter said her fried chicken sandwich was fine. My ribeye steak was roughly equal to what I would get from a place like Texas Roadhouse or Outback. It had a lot of seasoning which I was happy with and was cooked properly, but wasn't the most tender ribeye out there. The Mac and cheese was super creamy which isn't my preference but it was a good version of that. The potato logs were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with. Ice flavor. But this goes back to expectations... my total bill for the three of us to eat massive portions of food was $72 before tip and including taxes. That is a phenomenal bargain for a massive 1/2 lb burger, a fried chicken sandwich that looked like two meals, and a big steak with two sides. The food was good and I don't need to add "for the price" to it, it was a good country style meal, and a great value, and the wait expectations were managed. Our server Laura was friendly and kept our drinks full during the wait. It was a good meal. J.Ja

Two years ago, this dish was a spectacular highlight--served paper-thin over a velvety Robuchon-style potato purée with finishing salt, presented beautifully by the chef, GM, and waiter. It literally melted in your mouth. This time, the execution completely failed. While the chef presented the authenticity certificate, tracking back to a genuine Japanese Kuroge Washu animal , the actual cut of meat was sliced far too thick, resembling a thin NY sirloin with a heavy, unpeeled fat cap on the side. They took a world-class, premium imported A5 loin and completely ruined it . True A5 should never require a steak knife, but this cut did. In addition, the Robuchon-style potatoes have been changed out to a lower-quality substitute. To make matters worse, when I asked where the finishing salt was, I was told that the finishing salt was removed from the presentation. At this price point, a kitchen cannot afford to cut corners on execution and basic seasoning. I will return to Burwell's for their standard steakhouse classics, but I will never spend money on their premium Wagyu again.

The restaurant itself is lovely in a historic setting with 3 floors and a lot of classic, traditional touches. First things first, the service was wonderful. We had a reservation and were immediately sat by the hostess and greeted by our server. He gave us recommendations and told us half orders of the sides were available since it was only my husband and I. We had a glass of rose and a glass of red, nothing special but what you expect and at a place like this you expect to pay $15/glass. We ordered the New York strip, half orders of Brussels and mushrooms and the steak frites with truffle fries and bernaise sauce. The steaks were cooked very well which was great (it is a steakhouse), but honestly just tasted like pepper. The bernaise sauce was watery, cold and flavorless. The Brussels had some flavor, but nothing to knock your socks off and pretty much the same with the mushrooms. Honestly, the star of the show were the truffle fries. Crispy, lots of flavor and hot. You obviously have higher expectations when coming into an establishment such as Oak and sadly it let me down. There's other fabulous restaurants in Charleston and honestly other steakhouses I'd recommend. I'm glad we tried it, but I won't be rushing back.
