We had a almost wonderful dinner here at this 3-week old Italian restaurant occupying the storefront formerly occupied by Cafe Mendoza and before that Manninno's. Done up in earth tones with a huge mural of a wine cellar on one wall, dark banquettes and butcher-block tables, the dining room is dark, lit by high-intensity high-hats in the pressed-tin ceiling. We endured a 30-minute wait for a table at the tiny, crowded bar on a Saturday evening but the wait time was as promised. The food was largely satisfying. Veal parm, my benchmark for Italian eateries, won't ever be topped by another restaurant: tender veal, al dente pasta and a perfect, basil-studded red sauce. My wife's chicken francese also was tender, but the sauce lacked verve and seemed little more than watered-down butter. Chocolate lava cake ala mode with Haagen Daz ice cream made for a rich finish. A glass of fruity, but uncomplicated Poggio Vignos Chianti was a fine and fairly priced accompaniment to my main. The hostess Maria (not the owner) was friendly, addressing me by my name several times over the course of the evening, but our server wasn't seen between taking our order and delivering our check and the food runner shouldn't have had to auction our dishes--at least not with just 2 covers. But my biggest complaint was the noise level with folks loudly talking, almost shouting, to each other to be heard. There's no romantic Saturday night dinner here. Perhaps another evening would be less hectic and quieter. That remains to be seen. Maria, in any case, told us she hoped we'd return. read more

This restaurant was recommended by a co-worker who said the food was excellent. I met with there with three friends today and found it to be wonderful. The food was excellent, the staff friendly and accommodating, and the owners were very nice. They made us feel very welcome. We had calamari appetizer that was the best ever - fresh and crispy and delicious. Our lunch orders came out quickly and were fresh and delicious. Spur-of-the-moment late evening dining...No problem!!! Two, new New Yorkers arrived without reservations to MaBella for the first time about 9:30 pm Friday night. Restaurant atmosphere was warm, welcoming and cozy but not small. Cheerfully greeted by woman I believe is owner, Maria, and from bartender, Shawn, who became our waiter as we selected bar dining. Meal was excellent from fresh bread to salad to entree (had to skip dessert and coffee as salad and entree portion size are HUGE!) Atmosphere enlivened by enjoyable background music (70s-80's classics). I've been waiting to try Mabella's for quite some time based on recommendations from friends and I'm so happy that we did! My husband and I went there for lunch today and it was delicious! It's small, quaint and cozy and they are following all safety protocols so we felt comfortable and safe. The owners all came over and introduced themselves and asked multiple times if everything was OK it was very personalized service which we appreciated. We started with the baked clams yum! Fresh with a delicious dipping sauce to enjoy with the warm bread that they served. My husband had Frankie's veal which was fresh and well-prepared and I had the chicken Milanese with salad which was honestly excellent! I finished with cappuccinos and the tiramisu - perfect! This is a neighborhood gem. My husband and I are quite discriminating because we both cook and he grew up in the restaurant business so it's nice to be able to support and endorse local businesses that deserve the recognition. I had a great waitress, a young brunette girl. She was attentive and great at her job, I think her name was Bess. But, the hostess was over attentive and annoying. The service from the waitress was excellent except the short black haired lady coming out constantly asking if everything was ok. Also, I saw bus people but they neglected to pick any dirty dishes off our table. Other than that, food was great, our waitress was delightful. Dessert was delicious. Decided to try this place located in the old Maninios space based on very solid Yelp reviews. Did takeout basic order chic parm hero's chic parm dinner and rigatoni bolognese. Food came out as I arrived as promised. Chicken parm hero was outstanding. Chicken fried perfectly, sauce delicious and fresh basil on the hero an excellent touch. Roigatoni Bolognese was delicious, hearty meat with a nice sauce. Portion sizes were reasonable and commensurate with the price. We come here at least twice a month (sometimes more) and always leave happy! The restaurant, and staff, are warm and welcoming. The signature cocktails are always delicious and interesting, so I usually will try one of those. To eat, we always start with the capellini cakes, as they are so good, we want them every time! They're lighter and more flavorful than a rice ball, in my opinion. We share them, but I could eat a whole order myself! We share a salad or veggie app, then usually will pick an entree from the specials. This past visit we shared a seared tuna entree, and zuppa di pesce. Both were done perfectly!! We ended with a truffle, but usually will have the homemade Tiramisu, which is light but bursting with flavor. We love it here, and will keep coming back! read more

Destined to be a local favorite and meet and greet.You'll find the normal choices here and totally different and delicious protein preparations. The prices are very fair for the area. As yet they do not serve lunch and do not have special menu or price insensitive to bring in customers on the off nights. The beverage prices are average, I had a very fine apple martini and the rest in the group had wine. The restaurant can easily accommodate the handicapped. The waitstaff and everyone there was very welcoming and professional. We went early on a Thursday and by the time we left the restaurant was full. Parking can be a problem until the adjacent business closes and their parking lot becomes available. Definitely going back, the food was great. read more

I hate to trash this place because I want to like it. The service was very good we had a thin bubbly waitress who was excellent late twenties. Anyway it was all downhill from there. Again I hate to say this but the food has no flavor at ALL. The main menu has about 10 things on it so everything should be amazing. Not the case. First of all some guy brings the food over not the waitress and his fingers were all in my plates and my family's food and he had no idea who ordered what, that pisses me off. Next the seafood (shrimp) was disgusting it tasted funny and looked different than any shrimp I've ever seen. The wife ordered a fra diavolo and left most of it on the table. I tried it and it was terrible. I feel bad saying this because the place is clean and I like the location . I was a regular when it was Maninnos. I can not recommend this place the food is bland and tasteless. And this is my 3rd time feeling this way. I wanted to like this place but I must give my honest opinion. Not a fan. Tonite my husband and I ate at MaBella in Commack. The apps were amazing! I had the Capellini Cakes which the sauce was rich and the cakes were breaded nicely. My husband had the clams casino which he thought were very fresh and light. For dinner I had the penny alla vodka and it was very taste, I would for sure order it again. As for my husband he had the Chicken Parm which he thought was very well proportioned and he left full and happy. I don't like to leave bad reviews, but I came here on a Sunday night with a friend and the service was terrible. We were just looking to have salads, drinks, and a small dessert to share. Maybe we should have sat at the bar for that, but we wanted the comfortability of sitting at a table. Our waiter came by a few seconds after sitting down asking to take our drink orders. I ordered the pink lady and my friend ordered the blood orange. We both didn't like our drinks, but didn't want to make a fuss. My friend ordered an order of mozzarella sticks and they tasted like frozen ones. Once our waiter saw that we were only ordering small plates, he was extremely inattentive to us for the rest of the night. He didn't come back to check up on us, and after waiting 15 minutes after our small plates and drinks were empty, we had to bother another waiter. We ordered another drink each and the Nutella pizza. My second drink was much better, but I only ordered a Malibu bay breeze and was charged $10. I have to say the Nutella Pizza was the best part of our dinner. Overall, for mozzarella sticks, a small arugula salad with no meat, four drinks, and a Nutella pizza I wasn't expecting my bill to be over $70. Unfortunately, even though I've been here before and had a decent experience, I don't think I'll be back.
