Mario's is a pizzeria that is in my family's rotation of local pizza spots on a Friday night. The place is nice and modern - plenty of seating even on a busy Friday night. I like how they bring the food over to the table. Pizza is good - always offers a wide variety. I feel like my slice could have been a little hotter and in the oven a little longer today, but maybe that's just me being picky. Garlic knots were tasty. Great garlic taste and not oily at all. After years, I had to come back to update my review. We are regulars here, at least twice a week. The pizza and wings are always good. You are greeted warmly each time as well. The place is new after being completely flooded out and it looks great. Today is world autism awareness day, 4/2/25 and I'm updating my review specifically on this day. When we come in, I'm always with my son who has autism. He is so excited to eat his pizza so he is usually stimming and lining up the stools-typical autism stuff. The other customers look and/or stare but NEVER the guys behind the counter. They are always so kind to him. They wave, they ask how he's doing (even though he's nonverbal) and sneak him a cookie. The staff at Commack location, are cordial, and excel in customer service, We have dined in their comfortable large indoor area, and we have also done two large caterering orders. Mario's pizzeria in commack, has got to be one of the best pizzerias I've ever been to. From the modern aesthetic (completely new reno) to the customer experience, cleanliness, great atmosphere and food. As far as food goes, every slice & every dish is prepared with fresh ingredients and the best alla vodka sauce (in my opinion) in town. I can tell you from experience, they are highly invested in giving the best quality in all areas of service to the public. Parking lot is huge. Place is huge as well. Have lots to do near. I saw "Mario's Pizza" and assumed it was part of the Mario's chain of pizzerias, boy was I wrong. But it's definitely on the same level. Parking was a breeze. The lot was huge. Looking at the building I admired the modernness. Inside, what you first notice is how clean it is. I mean it's perfect. In my mind, that means the food is good if they care about important things like cleanliness. There was plenty of seating, with booths and bar seating throughout. They definitely can handle volume. After admiring the building I made my way to the counter to order. They had a lot of specialty slices to choose from. I always go for the normal. This time would be different. There were plenty of people working in the back, but two guys in particular helped me. They recommended the chili slice with pineapple. I thought, what! I don't know why people like pineapple on pizza, but I let them talk me into it, needless to say, I'm glad they did! Everything on the slice worked. The little sweetness from the pineapple complimented the chili. I couldn't believe how delicious it was. I had to stand up and clap.....well, not really, but you get the point. I've been to Mario's many times over the years, as it's located near my family's house. According to my cousins, Mario's is the place to go for specialty slices. They had a bunch of options, including meat lovers, my favorite. If you're going for a plain slice, I don't think it's the best around. Mario's is a decent spot to dine in or take out. The inside of the restaurant is pretty nice for a casual pizza spot. They have other food options as well, but we just went for the pizza. I ordered my food at the front and within 3-4 minutes, got my slice at my table. While they are known for their pizza, they offer other food items, such as salads, soups, and pasta. The slices are very large and affordable. They can make the slice a little more crispy if you specify. One slice will leave you satisfied. This place is good for vegetarians. Horrible. We had a birthday party and there was a family of vegans. We ordered a basic vegan cheese pie to accommodate them and it took over 2.5 hours to arrive. I was so embarrassed at my kids' birthday party. My husband was on hold for over an hour with a gentleman and when I used another phone to call, a female answered immediately so they were clearly playing phone games. And of course, "it will be on its way in 15 mins" was a lie after lie. When we finally got our damn pizza, they gave small a bag of free garlic knots, which I admit were pretty good. Fine, businesses have flukes and Mario's got a great reputation. We decided to give it a try... and it came at a decent time..(40mins) but the photos speak for itself. The Sicilian pizza is unappealing, tasted bland, and a soupy...the pasta-was ok but could use a bit more salt. The pinwheels and Stromboli were just embarrassing to look at and even worse to eat, it was short on ingredients and was dry/ clearly old -just reheated. The basic cheese pizza was good and the kids enjoyed that. I went here after work on day and I was amazed. I usually go to another pizza place near my house but this is my new favorite. The food is amazing and from pastas to slices there food is so so good! The service is is quick and they even offer good delivery that isn't killing the bank! The restaurant is super clean and kept well. Decided to try Mario's this evening as it's close to my home! What a mistake- I ordered ONE dinner- an eggplant parm at 6:03 pm online.The order was to be ready between 6:25 - 6:35. I arrived at 6:25 to be told it would be a few minutes. No problem. I took a seat and waited only to hear the cashiers tell people who came to pick up and or order- " We are busy, it will be a while". Next a group of 3 walk in and place dinner orders. It's now 6: 40 and I inquire again and am told the same thing- " oh it will be a few minutes" . I take a seat and wait... wait... 6:55- and the food for the group comes out! At that point- I ask again- is my one dish ready? The ONE dish should have been ready before the three walked in- The same response- sorry, we are busy" Really, because I just watched dishes come out - I'll take a refund !!!! I wanted something light so I ordered the salmon and it was dry as a bone. Ended up feeding it to my dog. Everything was smothered in too much oil including the spinach and mixed vegetables. Nowhere on the menu did it say there were mushrooms in the vegetables. I am allergic to mushrooms so I picked them out and gave them to my husband to eat. Stopped in to Mario's after checking out Dortoni's new location in this same strip mall. I returned when I picked up an order from the bakery days later. Tale of the tapes: Visit 1: Garlic Knots Small sized with a light texture, and unfortunately little garlic flavor. One tastes more of the light dough than the barely perceptible garlic flavor Spinach and Artichoke Empanada Shell is thin and light, filling is savory with a good flavor. At a $3.89 price tag, though, trying their various flavors could be an expensive, if not a sustained hunger proposition given the size of an empanada vs that of a specialty slice, which is just $1 more. Customer Service The guy who took my order was a bit gruff, even though it was toward the end of their work day. Still, that doesn't excuse his rather abrupt behavior. It was a little difficult to hear through a nicely designed and installed, yet utterly useless and frankly pointless acrylic screen. Would I return? Yes, but only to get a slice of their vodka sauce pizza, which some reviews proclaim as excellent. ================================= Visit 2: Buffalo Chicken Empanada Filled with small chunks of breaded chicken cutlet, cheese, and a savory buffalo sauce, which has just the right amount of spice. Unfortunately the cheese is more plentiful, thus overwhelming the overall flavor of the slice. From what I could tell of the sauce, it doesn't seem to have much flavor. You keep chasing the flavor, but it evades capture, leaving one frustrated. There are a three reviews here that peripherally say that their vodka slices and pasta dinner entrée are good. So far this has not been my experience, as my own empirical evidence toward that end is lacking. Perhaps next time I'll try the Grandma Vodka slice on a return visit. We'll see . . . Customer Service This time the guy who took my order was the one whom, in visit #1, was fulfilling the orders. First time trying Mario's and I have to say the plain pie we ordered was good. However, I was not satisfied with the slices I ordered. The grandma slice was dry and sloppy looking. The dough and cheese were too much on the white pizza. Sadly, it just didn't taste fresh to me. I was looking forward to eating garlic knots as well, but theirs lacked garlic flavor at all and were a bit stale. I felt that I was just eating bread. John was more than accommodating with any and all requests before, during and after our party. He made sure everything was perfect- even buying the birthday girl a bouquet of flowers! We started with delicious grandma pizza and garlic knots then the large buffet trays were brought out . We had eggplant and a delicious pasta/chicken dish in pink sauce.
