Umm, Ma Goa in Putney. Love this place, unpretentious, great food and a wonderful relaxing and cosy, warm and welcoming feel to it. This is not your average Indian restaurant and it has to be visited. A family run business since 1993 they obviously care and have a lot of passion and pride for their business. The staff are simply brilliant and the food that they prepare and produce is simply wonderful. My preference is to go there on a Sunday and fill my face for a tenner, It can get very busy as it is very popular and food this good shouldn't be that cheap. I saw that they were on the t.v the other night of a programme about Indian food which again re-enforces how good it is and it will also bring more people to the table and a busier place to be. We went on a Sturday and had: Dhai Vada (to start) red Chilli Chicken porco Vindaloo The starter was underwhelming-a sloppy mess of small doughnuts with lots of tamarind sauce. However, I was buoyed by the fact that I didn't really like the starter given the Peyton Law of Indian restaurants which is that the better the starter the worse the main course. In this case, the main courses were brilliant. Both were unctuous, intense fully flavoured concoctions. The pork in the vindaloo was melt in the mouth tender and both sweet and sour from the tamarind. Service was faultless. I used to live in Putney (sniff) twenty years ago and enjoyed Ma Goa then, so it has well deserved legs. Enjoy. read more

There are many many Indian restaurants in London but very few like this one. This is a Portuguese/Indian fusion restaurant. The region of Goa in India used to be colony of Portugal. The Portuguese colonised Goa in the 1500's. India as we know it now was born in 1947. However, Goa did not become part of the modern Indian state until 1961. There is a long history of Portuguese influence on Goan culture. This restaurant is an impressive representative of the distinctive culinary inheritance of the region. For example, you very rarely find pork on the menu in an Indian Restaurant. (It is inaccurate to label this place as Pakistani cuisine. You don't get pork served in Pakistani restaurants because of Muslim sensibilities.) This place serves a spicy pork vindaloo dish and a delicious pork chorizo and potato dish - you can't get much more fusion than that! I've never seen 'chorizo' featured on any other Indian restaurant menu. Apart from the unique meat dishes, this restaurant has an impressive array of tasty fish and vegetarian dishes. Again, there are fusion flavour and taste combinations that you wouldn't see in a typical Indian restaurant. The colours you get from the different dishes are delightful. I work near this restaurant and have been here many times. When colleagues come to visit from outside London I usually take them here after our meeting. This is a place I'm fairly sure they haven't encountered before and 10 times out of 10 my guests love the food, atmosphere and service. In 1999 our friends, who were living in London at the time, brought us here for dinner. It was amazing. We were on our honeymoon and we purchased some of their unique crockery ... one particular piece was not available new so we convinced them to sell us one that was in use but clean. (Yes, I thought they were that cute...) 7 years later we made the 2 day trek across 2 oceans and showed up with parents and children in tow... we were turned away at the door. Imagine our dismay!!! We'd traveled so far!!! Lesson learned. Two weeks before traversing both the pacific and the Atlantic... again... we emailed them for a reservation (thank you internet and Yelp!!!) The decor has changed since those long years ago but I'm happy to report that the food is as incredible as it was back then in the archaic ages of flip phones and (gasp) no email (or very limited) We came here twice in 2 weeks. And I almost came the last two nights in a row... alas, we weren't able as the district line was down all weekend and we also had theater tickets. Talk about homemade from the heart with goodness in every single bite. I can't get enough of this place. When we have people visiting we take them here to experience their first curry in London. The lamb shank is delicious and falling off the bone from hours of slow roasting heaven. My favourite dish of all time is the Pork Vindaloo which is not for the spicy faint of heart. It's insanely hot but packed with punches of something amazing and possibly an ancient family secret. Tasty pappadums. Friendly service. You can even get two courses for 10, which if the flavours aren't a selling point for you, the price should be. read more

I came here for my birthday having never had Indian food before. It was nice, but certainly not the flavour I was expecting. I've had better Indian food since then, but this place had a nice atmosphere and was the service was friendly. They have a nice beer selection with their food which makes it nice. read more

This is the best Indian place I know in London. I don't often like Indian restaurant food, but I would highly recommend this one. There isn't a great deal of choice for vegetarians in the mains but you can order a couple of vegetable side dishes if you like. I often have to take a doggy bag home because I can't finish my meal. This restaurant is actually in Putney, not Fulham, so check their website for the real address because it's on Upper Richmond Street, not Wandsworth Bridge Road.... but this place is seriously yummy! The food is VERY rich and can be very spicy. When we went, we just asked the waiter to recommend whatever he thought was best. We couldn't have been more pleased with the food he picked for us. It was all very tasty, and definitely a change from the "usual" Indian food. You won't find all of your usual standby curries here, and that's part of the fun- it gives your taste buds a bit of a wake up call and reminds you that all curries are not alike. My favourite India restaurant in London, preparing delicious home-style Goan & regional cooking in comfortable surroundings and friendly staff. If you like your food spicy but fancy a change from the standard chicken tikka massala/bhuna/dansak etc then this is worth a look. I am not a big fan of the indian cuisine, but I actually had a good night here. There isnt a huge range of food on the menu but I guess its good for those experts who know what they should be ordering. i found it to be a little too spicy (but then Im a wimp when it comes to spicy food) and very very greasy. I asked after dinner for an authentic tea and the waiter took my standard tea menu and said he would make one for me. He made me the best chai I have ever had and was very happy. I have been eating at Ma Goa for more than fifteen years. The food is consistently amazing, not your average curry house by far. The flavours are awesome, I love to have a few starters and a main and save some space for desert because they are pretty fantastic too! I also really love their amazing teas - a great selection of teas you wouldn't even imagine existed and as with everything else they taste great too. The staff are really lovely, its a family business and Ma is often seen there ensuring the standards remain high. I love taking my friends here as they are always really impressed too. A must-see for food lovers. I'm between 4 and 5 stars, reason being it is on par and now tied with the best Indian food restaurants I have ever eaten at. The atmosphere is quite elegant (we were commenting that it looks a lot more expensive than it really is), with the perfect amount of lighting and many modern touches with traditional decorations as well, and the music playing reflects that style too. I haven't heard such beautiful Sitar in a long time! The food is phenomenal, and the entrees themselves are very appropriately priced. Seriously delicious. It doesn't come with naan or rice, which are not priced very well (as well as even the papadum having a small price instead of being complementary) however I strongly recommend trying out the different varieties of naan. They do delivery, apparently! It is an experience eating in though, as all the food arrived portrayed in such a tasteful manner, by very polite staff. I would strongly recommend it for anyone that's into Indian food, and if you aren't then what have you been doing with your life, please go here and eat until you love it.. Per my girlfriend, who's been staying just outside of Putney, this is by far the best Indian food she's had around here, as the rest is sketchy in terms of service and food quality. read more
