I can sit here all day just looking at the shadows cast by the clouds over the valley and far off ridges. This morning, while my husband worked, I sat on my bench. He worked up an appetite while I solved the world's problems. We came down the mountain around lunchtime. Central City is not a dining mecca. We knew BJ's was there yet we'd never eaten there so we decided to give it a try. You walk in and order at the counter. Today's special was a cheeseburger and fries for $10.49. That's what I opted for. My husband ordered the club sandwich and my BIL, the chili dogs. We did wait quite a while for our food but the restaurant was busy and the three employees were running around as fast as they could. My cheeseburger arrived on a ciabatta roll topped with lettuce, tomato, pickles and ketchup (I opted out of the mayo and onions) and a giant pile of fries. Unfortunately, the cheeseburger was not very good - there wasn't a single ounce of greasy goodness. The burger was almost as dry as the bun. I only ate about half. My husband was going to finish it but even he thought it was lousy and just gave up. The fries saved the meal from dismal failure. They were crispy on the outside with a softer center. There were so many that the three of us barely finished them. My husband's club, on the other hand, was great. It was huge - he could barely take a bite and that says a lot - this is the guy that eats Oreos two at a time in one bite. He managed to finish three of the four wedges. My BIL said the chili dogs were good - the chili made them. While walking through the restaurant, I noticed several diners with fish sandwiches. These things were colossal! Definitely what I'll be ordering if I visit again. And yes, I'm willing to give BJ's another try.

If you follow my reviews, you know I'm a fan of old-school diners, the classics, and honest home-cooked food. Summit hits all three marks, serving straightforward and delicious American standards since the 1960s. The three-egg omelet loaded with veggies and sausage was exactly the pre-ski power-up I needed. My son stuck with his go-to breakfast burrito, and my daughter went with the classic two eggs, bacon, and potatoes. Everything was spot on. The staff has just the right level of "WWA"--Waitresses With Attitude. They are perfectly polite, but they hold the line on proper behavior and will quickly put anyone in their place if they step out of line. It keeps the environment grounded and authentic. A few tips for your visit: * Seating: Expect to wait for a table in the lobby or outside during peak hours. * Payment: Bring your wallet--this is a cash-only establishment.

They staff is fast and friendly and the food doesn't disappoint. It's such a rare thing in this day and age to see an old diner so we love to go when we are visiting Somerset. We typically go for breakfast. The next time you're in the area it's definitely a must stop place to go. Give them a try and you may have to wait to be seated they also only accept cash as their only form of payment so come prepared, they do have a ATM in the waiting area.

I ordered the French dip which was amazing (beef sandwich with Au Jus dip). Trust me- get this! The surf and turf burger was alright- though we may be tough critics because we are from Maryland and love our lump crab cakes! The crab cake was a little extra fishy tasting but the burger and fries were good! Oreo cake was delicious and the Eggnog Martini was spectacular! We also tried the Hot Apple cider cocktail with spiced rum which was yum. Sadly women's bathroom soap dispenser was not working though. If you're there, check out the gift shop. I would come here again on our next roadtrip up north!

I had lobster ravioli and the oatmeal pie, which were delicious. They also have a little gift shop next to the tavern, which has some very nice gifts and decor for purchase. I purchased a couple Christmas ornaments. The gift shop building also has a big fireplace so it is very warm and cozy in there too!

They also have tea and beans to purchase, as well as some other items. They even have a cooler with some fun things to take home. At first we thought it was just a typical coffee spot, but the menu proved us wrong. They do have typical coffee menu with some delicious coffee! But they also have an AM and an PM menu with some super creative options for food. We actually were in town for 2 nights and went both days! The baked goods are drool worthy! You will want one of everything. We tired the lavender blueberry scone. I don't like scones. I always think they are way too dry. These things are not! They are massive and full of flavor. Super tender too. We also got the coffee cake. This was just okay. I would opt for something else unless you ask if it was made that day. Just meh. It was a huge piece though! Super nice staff and very efficient. You can tell they make their food as it is delicious. This isn't a heat it up kind of place. They are cooking. Their baked goods are absolutely amazing! The portions are monster sized. You will need a to go box. We ordered coffees - delicious. Grab some beans to go! Then, we ordered a smoked salmon bagel with capers, pickled red onions, and flavored cream cheese. This was absolutely delicious and HUGE!!! Tons of salmon, the flavors were terrific! Also ordered the pork belly Benedict and it was just as good. This is served on two homemade lard biscuits. Like seriously??? Absolutely delicious! Can't recommend both of these things enough. We were going to come for dinner, but didn't realize they were closed. Apparently they have an incredible fish and chips that's to die for. This place is awesome!!!! Prices are reasonable too!
