Absolutely love having the opportunity to stop in for a drink, appetizer, lunch, dinner or dessert . The tavern offers dining upstairs or downstairs depending on availability. Either way this tavern is warm, cozy and relaxing. Fireside dining is the best but one will certainly experience everything the tavern has to offer regardless of the seating arrangements. Well worth the wait if visiting during the peak hours. Plan to use your wait time to explore the detached gift shop. Reservations are not accepted.

Anytime we're in the Bedford area we always eat at Jean Bonnet. I can't say much about the food because I always eat the same thing. There's a bison ranch, (The bison corral), a few miles west of the restaurant, on route 30, so I always get some type of bison product. My friends and family members have their own favorites. I've never heard a complaint about anything they've had. The portions are more than sufficient the beer is cold and they have some great desserts. We like the Peanut Butter Pie, with Whipped peanut butter filling in a flourless peanut butter cookie crust topped with hot fudge. There are two indoor dining spaces and a deck outside, they have a gift shop and rooms for overnight stays.

From the welcoming, attentive staff and beautiful garden leading to the door, to the consistently good food, this place has it all. The feel of the place is real, a 1700's tavern with candlelit tables and low beamed ceilings. But the food is what keeps us coming back. The two stellar menu items for us are the French Onion Soup and the Onion Rings. Tonight I chose to go a little different route and ordered an item from their Summer menu. The BlueberryShrimp Salad. It was very large and delicious. It included blue cheese, candied pecans and a light citrus vinaigrette dressing. Of course it came with a warm roll and their delicious cinnamon butter. It was fabulous! If you're traveling on Route 30 and you haven't stopped here yet, do yourself a favor and stop. You will be happy you did.

I had seen this tavern from the turnpike hundreds of times over the past 35 years of travel. I always wanted to stop here but never had the time, until today. On my way back from east to west I got off at Bedford and in less than 10 minutes, you can be at the tavern. I was really interested in seeing the history of this building. And they print the history on the menu and on your placemat to make it easy. They also serve their food on period dishes, meaning pewter. The tavern dates to the 1760's. They have a large parking lot. I ate in the actual tavern, part not in the dining room, and I sat at the bar. They do have a full bar and probably at least eight beers on tap. I had a Juniata brewing IPA & a Loose Cannon from Baltimore. I started with their crab and corn chowder, which was really thick like a stew and quite delicious and it came in a pewter crock. Next, I had the French dip sandwich and the meat was very tender, and it was quite delicious. Then I had their July special dessert, which was a personal Keylime mousse pie with the best shortbread crust! Service was friendly and efficient. They also have a dining area upstairs and I believe downstairs as well. They have some additional patio seating outdoors. It is also a bed-and-breakfast and you can rent a room upstairs. This restaurant is supposed to be the most haunted restaurant in Pennsylvania, although I had no encounters during my visit. There is a cure gift shop in a separate 1700's log cabin that sells artisan crafts, gifts & restaurant tee shirts. I would definitely stop again. Be aware this place may be challenging to anyone with mobility issues due to stairs & age of building.

French Tavern Onion Soup - excellent!

My husband and I have stopped here a few times traveling north to Pittsburgh. The food is terrific, the people are so friendly. Beautiful structure and if you're lucky enough to sit by the fire in the cold months, it makes the ambience that much better. My husband had the steak with sweet potato fries and beets. The beets weee unusually excellent! I wasn't as hungry but I had the French onion soup which was probably the best I ever had.

I got the fish and chips here as well as a stout beer to wash it down. Loved the staff who took care and of us and our drinks. It has a local vibe, yet is close enough to the main road that you get a lot a visitors cone in for a meal on their way across the state. Desserts a good as well.

Oatmeal pie. You must try it. It's similar to baked oatmeal, but even more delicious! I also enjoyed the sour hard cider. So unique and good. On an entire campus, there's a little gift shop, three goats (kids under twelve get free for free to give to the goats), a tavern, and a restaurant inside a 1762 historic space. Service is excellent and there's a large parking lot out front.

A few cold beverages before dinner! Have seen this place over 100 times from the turnpike. So today, we stopped.

After passing this establishment over 100 times , we stopped in for dinner. This building had been here approximately since 1762 and was a French fort & trading post! With that said, it is not totally handicap accessible. Neat historic feel, good food selection that was very delicious. 3 miles from the Pennsylvania Turnpike entrance - exit 146 ( Bedford)

This place is top notch. The food is impeccable service is great! The atmosphere is beautiful and historic. Literally, what's not to love here! It was the perfect candle lit dinner! Our food was absolutely delish and I'm forever craving the salmon I had here! The waitress got word it was my birthday and gave me a free dessert! It was perfect!

My family spent a weekend at the Omni Resort and had a great time. With that said, we've stayed at…read moreother Omni properties and this one has a lot less to offer the kids. It was a quick trip, so we managed to keep our little ones entertained. Frontier Tavern is a great option if you have kids since it's the more casual restaurant on property and has a variety of seating with a more lively atmosphere. They also offer an extensive kids menu with crayons so they can color and stay entertained. The main issue we had here was that the service wasn't really the best. We ordered our son's meal and repeated it at least 3 times since we've been working on getting our son to talk to servers. However, our son's meal came out first and it was completely wrong. The server was apologetic, but it also made it hard when the rest of the meals came and he had to watch us eat ours. The main entrees for me and my partner also came out cold. My partner got the shaved steak and cheese sandwich, which was soggy and just okay. My meal was also okay, the pulled pork sandwich but felt like it was drowning in sauce and was also served cold. Our daughter ordered the French Onion soup and she also didn't love it since it didn't taste as good as others. I'm not sure what that means! She is only 5 but clearly has elevated tastes! Finally, we asked for some other sides and our server pretty much forgot all that we asked. He was friendly but just not the most attentive. In the end, it was an okay experience and we'd probably go again. But it's a high price point for this area and had much better service at the other restaurants on property.

Very disappointing from the start. The table was sticky and filthy, with remnants of old napkins…read morestuck to it. The Bloody Mary, called the "FILTHY MARY" ($17), was described as a Bloody Mary infused with house spices and seasonings, including Tito's Handmade Vodka, tomato juice, salt, black pepper, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, and lemon. It tasted like the ingredients were pulled off a Walmart shelf and tossed into a glass. I would recommend they invest in a proper mix like Zing Zang. The chips and queso were simply bagged tri-color chips with a small crock of cheese. The Caesar salad was below average--bagged croutons, random stems of lettuce, and an oddly sweet dressing. The brisket mac and cheese was especially disappointing. While the portion was large and the mac was OK at best, the brisket was shameful: small cubes of tough, rubbery meat. I didn't eat it--it wasn't worth taking.

But this place turned out to be even better and perfectly suited for my family's needs. The photos of the restaurant don't do it justice. I was nervous it would be a stuffy, cavernous environment inside. Instead, I found it surprisingly open, with great energy and not too dark but not blindingly lit up. We got a table along the wall, where we could look out at the entire dining room as well as the open air kitchen. Our server Stephen was a real delight. He was friendly, took great photos of our family and so chatty with us. We enjoyed his energy and all his spot-on recommendations. He was also really friendly with our kids who were transfixed by his many stories of working there. My daughter usually doesn't stop talking but she actually didn't say a word as he talked about all the fun moments of working at the resort over the years. We enjoyed the bottle of wine, and were impressed that he noticed it didn't seem quite up to standards with a compromised cork. He quickly took it away and brought us a fresh bottle. The food was delicious and I went with his recommendation of the duck. My partner got the short ribs, which I was also considering. Both meals were great. The chef also sent us some amuse bouche prior to the meal along with some bread, which we quickly devoured. I would totally come back here. We had the tea service earlier in the day, which was okay. But it felt a little dead inside and the back room where it was served had a very quiet vibe. Dinner at this spot is definitely worth checking out.

The Crystal Dining Room within the Omni Bedford Resort in Bedford, PA is lovely. It is spacious…read moreeither a fairly large sized back room, presumably for overflow or private groups or meetings. Everyone whom we encountered was most gracious, friendly, and accommodating. I'd like to particularly recognize Michael, who'd served us twice, as well as Marsha. This is an upscale place to be sure, and prices are commensurate with the aforementioned environment. My wife and I had breakfast there thrice, and supper one. Everything was delicious. I cant comment on spiritous libations as I do not partake in them. In addition to prompt service and checking on us frequently, there were such personal touches as Michael asking if we wanted coffee to go following breakfast, and then inscribing " Thank you! Michael " on the Styrofoam cups. It is one of several restaurants within the resort, and was likely my favorite. I cant see how this is young kid friendly. I have enough trouble sitting still as an older adult, let alone a toddler or preschool youngster who have to poop with great urgency immediately upon eating. I wish there were more places like this near our home where we could go for special occasions. Check it out!
