A view up from our table on our evening meal on day 1

The Frontier Tavern is a frontal addition to an old (1804?) section of the resort. It is basically a high class bar which serves really good food. The servers we had at our 3 meals there were all wonderful; gracious, friendly, and checked on us frequently. I'll post a menu of the Tavern during our stay there. Behind the upper portion of the Tavern is the original Tavern kitchen, chicken full of both original furnishings reclaimed by donation following the hotel's 21 closure beginning about 1986. There were also authentic period pieces. I love history and historic places, so this upper level was right up my alley. They gave several large televisions playing sports channels, but fortunately not obnoxiously loudly. I saw no drunken behavior nor overly loud customers. The tables are small, yet cozy. This would seem a splendid place to visit for happy hour. The Frontier Tavern lies within what I would consider a 5 star luxury resort, thus don't expect inexpensive. I don't mind paying for quality, and this place is high class.

The hostess was nice and accommodating. I sat outside which was nice except when outside expect flies and ants. The server was good. I mentioned I was in a hurry and he had the food sent out fast. The pulled pork was on par with other places, not outstanding. Lovely venue.

Finding a good meal in Bedford proves challenging. Ate here twice w/ mixed results. Ordered Pub Chips appetizer. Kind enough to sub French fries (for a girl w/ braces unable to risk razor sharp potato chards) & they were divine. Generous amount of cheese sauce (that wasn't synthetic tasting) & sprinkle of crumbled bacon & green onions. (Ranch may have been present & just melted in). Ordered Smash Burger, it was not "smash" style, but a damn good burger w/ nice smoky, meaty, flavor topped w/ cheddar & charred onions & peppers. Husband ordered Jubilee Farms Burger (same patties as "Smash" Burger) w/ sweet potato fries & reported both very good. Day 2 ordered a Chicken Schnitzel-Piccata that was neither Schnitzel nor Piccata- bland, a little greasy, disappointing. Breaded chicken breast w/ side of un-sauced spaghetti- no detectable wine, butter, lemon, herbs? Nothing wrong w/ a hybrid dish, but u can't just fry a cutlet & dump tomatoes & mushrooms on top.

Dining at the Frontier Tavern was the most disappointing part of our stay at the resort. My wife and I each got burgers that were overcooked (cooked medium-well, ordered medium-rare), rubbery, and tasteless. The salad was good, except for the large chunks of red onion. I'd ordered one of the seasonal drafts, an IPA, with my meal and was brought a stout. The server assured me it was an IPA, despite its black as night appearance and milky taste, and then conceded the taps may not be correct. She offered to replace it with another beer so I ordered a Yuengling. I was charged for the more expensive beer I'd originally ordered. We split a piece of the 17-layer chocolate cake for dessert, which was okay. I was in disbelief when the check arrived and that slice was a whopping $16; nearly as much as our entrees. This place is horrifically overpriced for the poor quality food they're serving. Based on that experience, figuring the restaurants share staff/kitchens/ingredients, we ate our dinners elsewhere for the rest of our stay.

The sirloin steak is very good. I liked the fries as well. The gnocchi was good but a little too garlicky and I would have liked some bread to go with it. The pub chips were good. The portions are huge, especially if you are just eating for one.

I'm at the hotel for a conference and stopped in for a quick dinner. I was immediately seated and Kelly was my server. I told her I hadn't eaten lunch and was starving. She took my order with ease and brought me the app I ordered super fast. Then my pasta and I asked for bread to go with it and again, Kelly delivered. She was attentive and thoughtful. Even brought me an iced tea to take back to my room. The chips I had to start were good. I liked the sweet balsamic and salty chips. The pasta was also tasty. I would have liked a bit more pesto but the veggies were perfectly cooked and it was the perfect portion size. I'm sure I'll be going back tomorrow night and I hope I'll have Kelly as my server again.

Stopped here recently for a dinner- clear evening with a little brisk bite to the air. I had been here for a wedding, and some golf years ago, but hadn't done good yet. There are several places to eat and drink in Bedford Springs- and this is a more casual spot that I have been told by the experts. Started with a mixed drink - Crown Apple mule, which was very good and had just enough alcohol to give a kick but not take me back to college when I'd wake up on the kitchen table at our apartment with nothing on but a pasta strainer and coin changer. For an appetizer, we shared crab spinach artichoke dip which came with what I would say were homemade chips? that were thicker than store bought stuff. We decided to eat light and get a couple of salads - me going with the chicken Caesar salad which was tasty but could've used a little more dressing.

I had dinner here and ordered the hamburger with onion rings. It was delicious and filling after sitting and drinking at the pool in the afternoon. I was a bit confused on the mask policy as my waiter had a mask on but under his chin when he served my food

The staff at the frontier tavern is some of the best at the Omni Bedford springs. During our visit, we ate here a couple times because it's one of only a few lunch places on the grounds, as well as the only place open past 10:00 for drinks. Each person who waited on us or brought us our order was extremely friendly and polite. Always saying you're welcome, please, my pleasure. They really know how to make you feel like an honored guest. As for the menu; it's nothing too extravagant. A limited selection of which is really over priced. We had a few things & liked everything we ordered, but everything was pricy. $7 for a tiny cup of chicken noodle soup... not worth it in my opinion. The drinks are expensive as well. The tavern has a pretty awesome drink menu though. I highly recommend the champagne cobbler. They also carry one of my favorite beers, white lightening. The decor in the tavern is pretty cool. Sitting inside reminds me of playing the game Clue. Very old fashion, couches and chairs to lounge on, lots of wood, & a lot of little stairs. I also enjoyed that the tavern had outdoor seating as well. Although it was expensive, I will be back because of the excellent service and unique atmosphere.

But this place turned out to be even better and perfectly suited for my family's needs. The photos of the restaurant don't do it justice. I was nervous it would be a stuffy, cavernous environment inside. Instead, I found it surprisingly open, with great energy and not too dark but not blindingly lit up. We got a table along the wall, where we could look out at the entire dining room as well as the open air kitchen. Our server Stephen was a real delight. He was friendly, took great photos of our family and so chatty with us. We enjoyed his energy and all his spot-on recommendations. He was also really friendly with our kids who were transfixed by his many stories of working there. My daughter usually doesn't stop talking but she actually didn't say a word as he talked about all the fun moments of working at the resort over the years. We enjoyed the bottle of wine, and were impressed that he noticed it didn't seem quite up to standards with a compromised cork. He quickly took it away and brought us a fresh bottle. The food was delicious and I went with his recommendation of the duck. My partner got the short ribs, which I was also considering. Both meals were great. The chef also sent us some amuse bouche prior to the meal along with some bread, which we quickly devoured. I would totally come back here. We had the tea service earlier in the day, which was okay. But it felt a little dead inside and the back room where it was served had a very quiet vibe. Dinner at this spot is definitely worth checking out.

I'd like to particularly recognize Michael, who'd served us twice, as well as Marsha. This is an upscale place to be sure, and prices are commensurate with the aforementioned environment. My wife and I had breakfast there thrice, and supper one. Everything was delicious. I cant comment on spiritous libations as I do not partake in them. In addition to prompt service and checking on us frequently, there were such personal touches as Michael asking if we wanted coffee to go following breakfast, and then inscribing " Thank you! Michael " on the Styrofoam cups. It is one of several restaurants within the resort, and was likely my favorite. I cant see how this is young kid friendly. I have enough trouble sitting still as an older adult, let alone a toddler or preschool youngster who have to poop with great urgency immediately upon eating. I wish there were more places like this near our home where we could go for special occasions. Check it out!

There's parking along the Main Street, as well as lots of spots in the back of the building. We were absolutely blown away by the quality, portions, flavor profiles, and service in this little gem. We sat at the bar and were greeted immediately by a super friendly bartender named Matt. He was very attentive, friendly and welcoming. He was always checking up on us and making sure that we were always good. Service was fabulous. There's a timeline of the history of this historic building on the back of the menu. We ordered two drinks. One was an apple cider margarita and the other was a strawberry gin fizz concoction that was amazing. Both of these drinks were delicious. If we weren't driving and staying in the actual hotel above this tavern, we would have tried several other ones on the menu. Lots of creative choices that looked to be tasty based on the mix of ingredients. For the food - the menu was enticing and extensive. Lots of creative things happening here. The app we decided on was the Parmesan crusted Brussels and boy did they not disappoint. Absolutely delicious. We opted for The French Dip with fries and some magical au jus and a Union Smash burger with fries for our meals. Both are highly recommended!!! The burger was served on this delicious cloud of brioche bun and stacked high with two patties (perfectly cooked), pickles, dijonaose, and cheese. The French Dip had the most magnificent crusty roll and tender meat. Then there are these amazing Parmesan parsley fries that are perfectly cooked and served hot! We could have eaten an entire plate of these. To go boxes were needed. Big portions. We couldn't fit dessert! The bill does come with some tasty Andes mints. Prices here are extremely reasonable! I can't stress enough about how absurd it is that this small town has such a hidden treasure of a place where the food is beyond amazing. This place is a full package. You're probably here for some type of special occasion, because it is certainly pricey. I decided to splurge for a friend's birthday for brunch, which runs $95 per person and includes a mimosa. The same friend has visited a number of Frank Lloyd Wright houses with me, from this PA region to New York to Illinois, so it felt like the perfect place. I made a reservation on OpenTable and indicated that we had one vegetarian (myself). The restaurant followed up to make sure there were no other notes they needed to know, and also to see if I wanted to add anything on. You can add things like rose petals on the table and a single rose to the celebratory person, wine options, or an individual-ish celebration cake. I decided to add the celebration cake, which costs $20 and serves two people. There is a main restaurant, but the special experience this place has certainly become known for are the individual dining pods, which are out in the trees but well screened from any weather. There are heaters and fans available in your pod. It is a truly lovely private dining experience. You can just slightly hear conversations of other diners in nearby pods if you listen very hard, and there is piano music playing on speaker, which is instrumental version of popular songs like Britney Spears, Shakira etc. We found this funny but simultaneously enjoyed it. They had nice little touches like a Happy Birthday sign on the wall and an embossed happy birthday note for the birthday person to keep, and brought out chilled plates for a dessert involving frozen custard. It was nice attention to detail that reminded you this is a special dining experience. Service is attentive but unobtrusive and wants to make sure you are happy with your experience. Onto the food. The mimosas were already on our table when we arrived. Our server indicated they were sending out a complimentary amuse-bouche from the chef, which was an individual vegetable stuffed mushroom. It was delicious and a nice starting note. Then came the appetizer, a smoked burrata with pita, arugula, grape tomatoes and an edible orchid. Everything is so beautifully presented here, and just delicious. The entrées were crazy. There were two portions each of stuff French toast, potatoes and frittata. Those were all vegetarian and shareable. On a separate board came enough meat for two people to share as well, salmon, pork, sausage and carrots. Since that tray was not for me they also brought me a vegetarian bowl including veggies, chickpeas and quinoa. It was a lot of food and we ended up taking a nice amount of leftovers home from this part of the meal. Everything was wonderfully prepared, with the stuffed French toast probably being my favorite bite. Our server said she would be bringing dessert which I assumed was the celebration cake. But no, there was a French pastry each, presented with some fruit. They have a nice cocktail and cocktail menu and we elected to add an espresso mocktini each with this course. Those were on point and I've missed espresso martinis so much since I've largely given up drinking. After all of this came the celebration cake, which either came entirely or just the frozen custard from Tropical Bungalow, a local business. The Tahitian vanilla flavor was just delightful and the frozen custard was a wonderful texture. It was truly such a feast. We ate every bit of the desserts. One thing I appreciated here is that often when a place is known for the experience, the food is beautifully presented but not always plentiful. That is far from the case here, you are not going home hungry. My total bill came to $252, which included the two $95 brunches, the $20 celebration cake and two $14 mocktails. Adding a tip, I was a little over $300, which is a lot but it is a special occasion. We heard folks talking about staying overnight and looked up more information, and found that you can tour the four homes on the property here, two designed by Wright and two by his apprentice. In reviewing the tours I noted that there are package options, with one offering a tour of three of the houses and lunch at Tree Tops for a total of $75 per person (!). This is an incredible value and I think I would take this option next time, as the houses would definitely be worth touring as well. I look forward to my next visit here.

However, I'm terrible about keeping secrets. Plus, especially in this challenging business climate, local shops need all the support they can get. If you are a beer lover who enjoys rare and aged bottles of hard to find or out of production beers, this unassuming spot has a remarkable and delightful selection of brews I never expected to stumble upon in a tiny Pennsylvania town. Part of me wanted to buy everything and find a way to schlep it all back to Michigan. Instead, I chose to just get what I could enjoy on this trip, and save the other bottles for those fortunate souls who might learn of the treasures that await inside. I got: The latest vintage (2020) Bourbon County Barrel Stout, but the Kentucky Fog variant which I had never seen before. It was the best BCBS I've had to date. A large format bottle of Goose Island Halia from 2016 which was simply delightful! It was drinking perfectly, and I was tempted to go back and see if they had any more. A large format bottle of Goose Island Lolita from 2016, which was also drinking well, and was a pure pleasure with the integrity of the raspberries holding up to the years. A New Belgium La Folie from 2017, which I had the chance to try back in 2017, so it was super fun to taste a funkier version of it with more years in the bottle. The Smuttlabs Brett & I may not have held up quite so well since its 2016 bottling. Most of the carbonation had dissipated. That said, its brightness was the perfect pairing for some charcuterie back at the family farm. Similarly the Wild Devil Brett IPA from Victory Brewing, aged in red wine barrels, didn't quite hold up as well to the years. However, it was still fun to drink. But I didn't even scratch the surface. I asked the bartender if I could take a snapshot of the beer list to show my friends in case they wanted additional bottles. She said yes. And since I consider so many folks in the Yelp Community to be my friends, here it is. Hopefully I can make it back to Bedford in December. All I ask is that you leave me a couple of bottles so I can try some more rare and old beers without having to stand in line with the bearded masses of craft beer chasers. The weird gray market of beer trading is just not my scene.
