The 1796 Room was quaint and the food was really good. For the ladies, take a sweater as the room was very cold even after asking the waitress to turn down the air. I enjoyed the bone in ribeye with the blue cheese crust. Requested medium rare and it was perfect. It was a large steak - too much for one person so I shared with friends. We had multiple sides - Brussels sprouts, truffle fries, fried calamari, and lobster Mac and cheese which were all delicious. The bread served at dinner was also really good. Some of us shared the carrot cake for dessert. The piece was large enough to share among four people. Others had the crab cakes, lobster tail and salmon- no complaints. Stopped here for dinner. We had tried eating here the week before and were unable to get a table, so this week I made sure to get the reservation earlier. It wasn't too crowded on a Saturday night, and we were sat immediately with the reservation. We placed an order for drinks to start - I got the regiment drink with bourbon. It was good - a decent mix of hooch and ingredients. For the starters we charged the onion soup and a Caesar salad. The Caesar salad wasn't out of the ordinary and the soup was very good. The broth had an interesting flavor to it. For the entree I went with the 14oz NY strip steak. I added bleu cheese crust. For the temp we were nudged towards a medium plus which is a little more towards well than a regular medium. Well - for the second straight weekend at Bedford Springs I got an undercooked steak. This one I didn't sent back and just drenched it in horseradish sauce. We shared chocolate cake for dessert which they put a candle on for the celebrated birthday. Our waitress was great - middle-aged blonde lady. Very nice, informative and attentive. Overall good, but for the price and billed as a steakhouse? Underwhelming. read more

Fantastic service on NYE w/ few culinary standouts, 1 being rustic, seeded, bread w/ nutty-fruity interior & salt-sprinkled whipped butter. SO GOOD, next time I'm asking for loaf to-go. Three-Cheese Onion Soup, well executed w/ depth in broth (seldom happens anymore) & melty cheesy blend that provided nutty-salty finish. Unfortunately, raving ends there. Excited over unique menu items like Veal Porterhouse, but it was stringy, tough, mostly inedible, even on filet side. I've not eaten many, nor have I personally prepared this cut, so can't speak to the failure, but there was one, because while lower in fat, veal still inherently associated w/ tenderness & ease. This is a typical steak house. Drinks are made well. Nice steaks, sides are family style, nice wine selection. Our experience was not great. We got a dry-aged porterhouse that was sent back twice because it was way too raw in the center. The lamb chops were very large and fatty so I would not order those again. Wine and desserts were very good, which they gave us because of the steak issue. There are not many restaurants in Bedford so they have a captive audience but still should want to provide a better meal for those looking to spend a lot of money. I really wanted to love it - the service was great - but the food for the price was just mediocre. The steak was medium and we ordered medium rare. Not worth sending it back but it should be a no brainer at a place like this to get it right. The asparagus was fine but nothing special. The tagliatelle dish was more mushrooms than pasta - almost like a bit of pasta served on a giant bed of mushrooms. But the spiced old fashioned from the Frontier bar was fantastic. You can order the cocktails from that bar's menu because they service the 1796 room. We had a drink at the Frontier bar before dinner and the couple next to us was eating at the bar - their dinner from Frontier tavern looked absolutely delicious. read more

I've driven past the Bedford Omni before but have never been inside. It is absolutely lovely! From the main door, it's a bit of a walk to the restaurant. Upon entering, we were directed which way to go. Since we were a few minutes late we didn't take the time to look around on the way there. We were immediately seated and welcomed. Our waiter, Jacob was awesome. He was friendly and professional. He shared some history and made appropriate suggestions. We both ordered a drink and a wedge salad. He suggested we share. We should have listened. ;) it was huge but delicious. For mains, my husband got the 12 Oz prime filet. It was cooked perfectly. He also got a potato. They were huge. Again.. we should have shared. I got the lobster Mac and cheese (it's a side) and a potato. The Mac and cheese would have been plenty. I brought about half home. It had lots of large pieces of lobster and cheesy goodness! For dessert, we asked Jacob which to go with. He described both the 17 Layer chocolate cake and bananas foster so well that it left us still undecided. We ended up choosing bananas foster. So good! On the way out, we explored a bit. We definitely need to go back and check out the property again. Staff was all very kind and helpful and the building is very well kept. read more

Very unique steakhouse. The set up and decor to this restaurant is unlike any other steakhouse I have been to. It is located behind the Tavern inside of the Omni Bedford springs. This restaurant reminds me of an old speak easy. It has a rustic feel and dark lighting, large tables, and old style decor. Tip- you can make reservation on open table in advance. I warm you, this steakhouse is pricy. Don't go here thinking you're eating at a Texas Roadhouse. This is a real steakhouse. All of the steaks are priced separately from hour side dishes. I ordered the 8oz filet and although it was prepared exactly as I ordered, it was not the best steak I've ever had in my life. I did really enjoy the peppercorn sauce. My husband for their homemade steak sauce for his & it was delicious! If I ever return, j be ordering that. I was slightly disappointed in the portion size of the sides and salads. The $22 lobster Mac & cheese was all of about 8 tablespoons for, not enough for 3 people to share and certainly not worth the price. Our waitress told us the salads were large and could easily be shared by two people, but that wasn't true. We got the arugula salad, which she split for us so that was nice, but it was only a few bites each and in my opinion, no worth $13. We did not order dessert but got cappuccino and espresso. Our waitress did not offer us sugar or cream/milk for the espresso, which was somewhat disappointing. My cappuccino, however, was perfect and came with a crystal sugar stick to sweeten and stir. Although the 1796 room was not my favorite restaurant or steakhouse, I would probably return if I am back at Bedford springs & willing to empty out my wallet on dinner. We decided (at the last-minute) to have dinner at the 1796 Room to celebrate my birthday. The staff was very accommodating with our late reservation. The restaurant is located at the historic and charming Bedford Springs Resort--beautifully decorated for the holidays. The 1796 Room is located adjacent to the Frontier Tavern--which looked like a fun place! It's slated for renovations soon, but was charmingly appointed with tables and banquettes. Service was attentive without being overbearing. The courses were well-timed and didn't leave us feeling rushed. We started with a Caesar salad and chophouse salad. The white anchovies were a great addition to the Caesar. The rosemary ciabatta with salted butter was a nice accompaniment. Now--for the main attraction--the steaks! I had the 8 oz. filet Mignon. The steaks are 21-day wet aged beef. Normally, I'm a medium-rare kind of gal, but when eating at a new restaurant for the first time, I tend to be a bit conservative. My medium steak was cooked perfectly and I wouldn't hesitate to order medium-rare next time. My husband enjoyed his NY strip--both steaks were well-seasoned. We both had the house-made steak sauce--good, but I prefer my steak plain. As much as I love steak, the accompanying artichoke stole the show for me--delicious! Our sides of sautéed mushrooms and salt-crusted baked potato were good as well. (I love sides for sharing!) I was too full for dessert, but managed to steal a few bites of my husband's gluten-free chocolate cake. Who knew gluten-free could be so good? The 1796 Room has definitely been added to our rotation of favorite steakhouses. You won't be disappointed. read more

Standout steakhouse at the Omni Bedford Springs Resort. My husband and I enjoyed a dinner there and were pleased w/our meal. The 1796 room is literally a room near the Frontier Tavern w/low ceilings and lighting that transports you back to the beginning days of the resort (early 1800s). Service was attentive t/o and they did a good job of pacing the meal to ensure we had enough time btw courses. This restaurant is pricey, as is the rest of the resort, especially as everything here was a la carte. We may have over ordered as everything looked so good. The cocktail, wine, beer list is the same t/o the resort but it's a huge list so we were happy to choose some cocktails. We started with the tuna tartare ($16) which was incredibly fresh w/good flavor combinations (spicy wasabi, avocado, and miso). We then had the crab salad ($12) which the restaurant split for us. Again, it was fresh and flavorful and gave a healthy serving of crab. We each got a 8 oz filet for $39. Beautifully cooked piece of steak which was rich and filling. I decided to spring for the truffle butter for $6. It wasn't really worth it as the butter was standard and the steak was delicious on its own. We also split sides of the lobster mac n cheese($22) and whipped potatoes ($8). The lobster mac n cheese was decadent and delicious w/tons of lobster mixed in. Though stuffed, we split the flour-less chocolate cake ($11) - again delicious and amazing. We left the meal completely full and satisfied. Highly recommended when in the area! read more

We decided to share a chilled seafood tower for two. Be sure to see the picture of this appetizer. It was amazing. It included lobster, shrimp, crab legs and tuna ceviche. Next, we shared a baby iceberg salad with tomato, Lancaster bacon, Potter County blue cheese with Cabernet vinaigrette. This salad was perfect, we loved it. Believe it or not, we continued to eat. BJ veal chop with blue cheese infused mash potatoes. I got twin petite filet mignon with rich & mushroom melange. Both meals were perfect. Catching up on some R & R and visited this restaurant for dinner and drinks. Lisa my waitress was very warm and pleasant. Hot fresh baked bread and warm butter is always a great way to start a meal! Seared scallops were very tasty, perfectly cooked and lightly seasoned. Not heavy and a perfect start to the meal. Smoked 14oz pork chop was absolutely smoky and delicious. Well seasoned and full of flavor. Paired with a glass merlot, buttery mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus was an excellent choice. Everything was cooked well and tasted great! For dessert, I decided on the vanilla bean creme brûlée with house made whip which was light and simply awesome. Not heavy at all and the hard caramel top was divine. This was our second time dining at 1796 Room while staying at Bedford Springs. They had changed up the menu since our last trip, and I'm loving the addition of the grilled artichoke heart as a side dish to the entrees. The service was impeccable, just like last time and even with the menu change, the bread served with salted butter had stayed the same, a small detail, but one I really loved when we first dined here. My husband got the new york strip and it was cooked perfectly. I had the mushroom and spinach risotto which was smokey (in a good way) and flavorful. Overall 1796 Room is just another wonderful aspect of Bedford Springs and the only reason I didn't give it a full 5 stars is because, even though I'm not a strict vegetarian, I do dabble and it would have been nice to have one or two more non-meat options for an entree. read more

This dining room is located right next to the Frontier Tavern. It's a small dining room, so I would recommend making reservations. We ordered the jumbo lump crab cakes to start. It was pretty good but they used both backfin and some jumbo lump crab and some fillers in it so I wouldn't really call it jumbo lump crab cake - but it was a good portion. We ordered the filet and the NY Strip. The filet was cooked the way we ordered it - medium rare, but the NY strip was cooked a little too long as it came out medium instead of medium rare. Make sure you order the steak sauce - it was great. Get the signature steak sauce. read more

I recently dined at the 1796 Room while visiting Bedford Springs and had a nice experience. The room is tucked away behind the tavern. The decor and ambience give it that old school speakeasy feel...very dark with little lighting and rustic tables. I was surprised at the size it's not very big, still has plenty of seating but be sure to make a reservation. You can make reservations on open table! This is an upscale dining experience so it's not going to be cheap. I did find some things were over priced like the $22 lobster Mac side. I understand it was side dish so it wasn't going to be a huge portion but not worth $22! It was good, nothing special though so I don't recommend for the price. My boyfriend and I shared the wedge salad so they split it for us which was so nice! It was big, def good for 2 people to share and only $12 which is a decent price so not everything was over priced. Everyone in my group got steaks and really enjoyed them. They offer a variety of toppings and sauce pairings for the steaks. I tasted my boyfriends filet and it was great. I opted for the tuna with crab risotto and crispy spinach...wow! I think I loved the crispy spinach and risotto the most. It was so delicious and crispy also not a combo you find often. Our waitress provided great service and was very attentive. Overall, I enjoyed the 1796 room and recommend if you're staying at Bedford Springs or just want to go for a nice night out. read more

We stayed at the Omni during the Christmas holiday week. We had dinner at the 1796 room. We have been to the Bedford location several times but we had never experienced the tasting menu.....it was fabulous. Nothing can compare to the overall dining experience that we had. The croquettes to start were amazing and the 2nd course of the beef and lentil soup was mouth watering. The next course was the beef medallions which were extremely tender and it was cooked perfectly. To end it all was a gluten free chocolate cake...YUM. My husband also had the NY strip Oscar style. The crab was fresh and tender and the preparation of the steak was done perfectly. The service as always was wonderful! read more

This was our first time dining here on Monday night. The octopus appetizer was the hit of my meal. It was incredible & tender. I was never a fan of octopus because it had always been chewy & tough. This was the total opposite. It was so tender and flavorful. It was on a bed of olive tampenade. The dressing was a lemon citrus. If you are a person who eats everything like me & adventurous, I would highly recommend it. It's big enough for 2 but I ate it all myself. My husband & I both had the 8 oz filet. They were very good. I got the mushroom Demi sauce and he had the house steak sauce. Each steak comes with your choice of a free sauce. It was hard for me to say which one I preferred over the other. The sides were also very good. We had the sweet potato smash and the glazed baby carrots. Our server was very friendly and knew a lot about the menu. The food was great. I would want to give this place a 4 1/2. There seemed to be a reservation mix-up but they still seated us right away. Service was slow in the beginning, it took awhile to get in our orders, but picked up afterwards. I loved the arugula salad (I am a big fan of arugula). It came with generous portions of the lump crab. DH and I ordered the ribeye and ny strip. We both ordered it medium rare. The ny strip was tough (lesson learned) but I loved the ribeye. We chose the house made steak sauce for the ny strip and the lemon buerre blanc sauce for the ribeye. I was in food bliss combing the two sauces together with the ribeye. Side Items: Sautéed spinach and mushrooms (we finished it) and the Cajun crawfish mac and cheese. I didn't taste the mac and cheese (I'm oddly picky with yellow cheese) but my DH who ordered it said he was disappointed by it and only ate a bite. For dessert, we shared the expresso creme brûlée; it tasted as good as it sounded. I look forward to dining here again. read more

Loved it! My wife and I both got the 6 oz. filet along with some family style sides to share. She gets her steak cooked well done, which normally means dry and crusty. They cooked it perfectly without drying or charing. Now, I wouldn't eat a well done steak, but that's the way my wife likes it, so it worked for me. After dinner we sipped some Scotch and had an amazing gluten free chocolate cake slice. I didn't know there was an amazing gluten free anything, but they managed to do it. Everything was great.... The room and service was great, exactly what I'd have hoped for in a historic building like the hotel. Rustic but elegant, you can feel the history there. Service was on par with the vibe the restaurant was going for too, but the food fell a little short. Our order consisted of two steaks, two shareable sides, a cocktail, and two deserts. Both steaks were prepared incorrectly, though we elected to let that slide. My strip, to be prepared medium rare, was approximately 3/4" thick with a third on each side well cooked and a thin center band of pink. Not usually an issue with a great steak, but it certainly didn't live up to expectations, especially for a place where the servers introduces the menu claiming they're known for steaks and chops. The other steak was a filet, to be prepared medium well. It came out to be a perfect medium and was quite delicious. This was actually on par with expectations, just not prepared to the order. The mashed potatoes were fine, hard to not be. The other side was the lobster mac and cheese. I'm torn on how to rate this dish as the amount of lobster was well beyond what I'd have expected for $22, but the pasta and cheese was a little off. The pasta was prepared well, but the serving size was far from shareable. I'd ordered a smaller steak expecting the side to have leftovers and the opposite was true. The cheese was a little on the runny side, not pairing well with the larger, thin disc shaped pasta. The desert, bourbon peach cheesecake was to be served with bourbon flamed of peaches that turned out to be reminiscent of the single serve diced peaches for a kids lunch and the cheesecake itself seemed to be overcooked and/or from frozen. I did however get a cocktail that was quite delicious. The drink menu was on point and had the desert situation been known ahead of time I'd have elected to select another. read more

We come here maybe 2 times a year stay fo a couple days may three,the last trip little bit a go. Was not up to standard,first of all to are dismay we always order Room Service which used to be some the nicest in our world travels - but to find out that our two favorite people in room service,Don was gone which is terrible for us & then to find out Lindsay was leaving was the last straw. Then when we were in the tavern and saw a manger I believe her name was Kate berating a server we thought that has to be the reason 2 of the best the Springs had offer Lindsay & Don were gone after such a long time there. maybe will be back maybe not they need more mangers like Mellisa Mickey I think is her name. read more

The food and service were disappointing both times I ate here. I ordered the special last night, a 4 oz Wagyu style steak that came out with at least two ounces of fat and under cooked. I sent it back to bring it up to med rare, hoping that would help with the fat, but it remained chewy and flavorless. I told the waitress I was disappointed and the manager came by 10 minutes later (when my companion had long finished his meal) to ask if I would like something else. This should have been offered by my waitress when I initially complained, not after the meal was finished. They charged me the full $38 for a meal that was terrible. But the chef said if we didn't mind if it showed up looking a bit wonky that they could send one up. Well it showed up, looked fine and was delicious. Our other dinner items were very good as well. You should note this is a very small place, and if our server couldn't come right away then another server should have handled our table. There were almost as many servers as tables. I had to ask for the cocktail menu. The service was only OK which is disappointing because this is supposed to be the top tier restaurant at the resort. Moving on, the food was excellent. Filet perfectly seasoned and cooked with that beautiful pink center, I didn't use any sauce. And, notable for rural Pennsylvania, the tuna steak and scallops were also delicious. Stay at the springs and eat at 10/09 in town. That's my best advice. 1796 room is okay at best. I've eaten here twice to celebrate with others (others chose 1796 room). The food is okay, the prices are steep, the portions are okay, the service is blah. For 7 of us, our bill was over 500 (drinks included). The most recent time we went, 20 minutes after ordering, they told us they were out of porkchop (what we ordered), then they ran out of the beer my husband was drinking, when they brought the food out, they set the dishes in the wrong place to the wrong people. We didn't make a big deal out of any of this however, we received no discount, no perk to anything for all of this being a mess and if we are going to pay over $100 a meal, it better be top notch everything. read more

I was staying at the resort for a board meeting, and was traveling alone, and decided to have dinner at the 1796. While the food and ambience was quite good, it was clear that as a female dining alone I was treated like a second class citizen. While the couples dining all around me were repeatedly asked about their meal, offered refills of drinks and such, the same waiter never came back to check on me to see how the meal was, offer me anything else etc. Honestly, I have never been treated so poorly...clearly my bill was not going to be big enough to warrant any attention whatsoever. I waited for awhile, then got up and went downstairs to ask the hostess to retrieve my bill. When I told her what happened, she asked if I wanted to speak to the manager, and I did not. She left and brought back my check and the manager. He was profusely apologetic and seemed embarrassed. In the end, he tore up my bill and said the meal was going to be complimentary. This was not expected, but appreciated. Moreover, I hope that my experience is used to train staff in the future. It can be a little intimidating for females dining alone (yes, even in today's world). I travel alone a fair amount, and have always been treated with respect and given even a little extra attention by wait staff. Not here. read more
