I hate leaving less than 5 star reviews but I have to be honest. I came in as a walk-in and was grateful they had opportunity to cut my hair. I came here because I read the reviews off Yelp. Kim was kind and seated me immediately. I felt comfortable and everyone was pleasant. I showed photos of the style I wanted and gave my hair to Kim to transform. Unfortunately, when I got home my hair felt super thick and chunky on the ends. It was uneven all around. I had requested a style where it didn't flip out. Due to the way it was cut, it did exactly that after I got home. I needed a low maintenance style and unfortunately, this wasn't working. I was so sad and felt ugly. I ended up going to a different salon and they salvaged my hair. They confirmed that it was uneven and cut wrong. Also, confirmed that there were "holes" in my style even after correcting it due to the incorrect and uneven cut. I'm thankful I was able to get it fixed today. I gave two stars instead of zero because while I didn't achieve the cut I wanted - they were kind and I felt they are honest with their customers. I say this because they didn't try to upcharge me with random services like some salons do. I also overheard a conversation with another client and felt the stylist was honest and didn't try to just do whatever client wanted for money. I felt she truly was looking out for that client. I hate complaining and while I don't feel this salon worked for me - I did leave a 50% tip because they didn't overcharge and didn't take advantage of me. read more

I've contemplated leaving a review, but I think constructive feedback is useful. Mary's performance is spectacular, but her behavior is poor. Very condescending nature and irritable demeanor. I liked her cuts but her attitude is not worth it. I even tipped 20%, but her service did not justify it and she didn't even seem appreciative .. she thinks she's entitled. @Mary - I genuinely believe deep down you're a good person and you mean no harm, but I would highly recommend you think about the fact that you're in the services industry. UPDATE: I was told over the phone they didn't take walk-ins so I came into the salon today to see if they could work me in since I canceled the online appointment due to new policy regarding paying a deposit before your scheduled appointment. I was fortunate enough to come in when I did and they agreed to cut my hair. I came in with wet hair so I had a quick haircut without a blowdry/style since I didn't want to take up too much time. I always get my hair done my by Mary. I can't remember exactly when I first got my hair done by her because I've been going to her for so long. When I come in I always as for something unique, I like to dye my hair a bunch of bright colors. Every time she does it she puts so much work into it. She's very patient, I had asked her to do a lot of things to my hair once. Some of the times it took more than one day but she always made sure I got exactly what I wanted. If you are looking for a great hair stylist this is the place to go. I found the M Salon on Groupon. I almost didn't get it because a Tami B wrote the first one-liner review saying they are rude - but then I read her other reviews and was all BAHAHA and bought it anyway. Thank the heavens I did! The bad: 1. They are short-staffed/over-booked. I don't know which is which. There were two women in the salon on a Wednesday night at 530pm - but there was a continuous supply of clients coming in. They are so busy that they don't have time to pick up phone calls. There is no receptionist. 2. They are cluttered. Maybe they are a new salon, but they have a ton of stuff EVERYWHERE. It makes me think of an HGTV hoarding episode. 3. Because they double book their time, they kind of have to swap out clients. Like while one is under the dryer, she would do a men's' cut. This isn't actually bad because, yes, you are busy baking under the dryer - but I feel like it makes the stylists a bit scatter-brained and not fully invested in one client. The good: 1. Even though they are busy, they are friendly. I'm not talking about fake friendly - because Asians don't do this. I'm talking about greeting and letting me know that they'll be right with me, etc. 2. The constant influx of clients? A lot are walk-ins! And they are WELL KNOWN in the community. Every other client is like, "oh hey Jane! You're still in that boot of yours!" I feel like they are well established and loved in the community. 3. Even though they are busy, they do things right. I had a Brazilian Blowout done and even though she squeezed a client in between, Mary Lu did a PHENOMENAL job. Every client that left their chairs is smiling. So this was the surprise of the year for salons. If it wasn't so far for me, I would adopt them as my regular salon - but it requires me to go with traffic after work. I Dailed in to get appointment for Global Keratin Treatment after seeing the Group on deal. I was told to walk in and I can get it for the same price as on Group on. It was supposed to $87 instead I was charged $133 and they said is because that my hair is lengthy but my hair just a bit more than the shoulder length..For that price I would have got it in my area, I wouldn't need to drive 45mins to this salon... .(Not sure what they would do if I had actually bought on Group on and went for appointment) and after the first hair wash my hair is back to the natural texture. It took me awhile to find a great hairstylist when I moved here to Allen, TX. When I met Mary H., I was very happy I did. She has always done a great job on my hair. From my hair color to my hair cut. I have recommended her to my closest friends and they agree with me that she does a great job! We all go and see her on a regular basis for haircuts and/or hair colors. I also know that there is another hairstylist there name Mary N. as well and I have seen her hair cuts and colors while I am there. I would also recommend her too. She does a great job from what I can see. If you need a great hairstylist, give this salon a try. I don't see a reason for you to be disappointed! Worst experience ever. Booked an appt for 2 ppl for One Global Keratin Treatment. Supposed to be 2 different appt. Showed up today with my daughter.. No appointment, actually never existed. I tried to explain to the owner(rude) who denied the appointments ever booked but then said.. Ohh, we canceled them because they were 2 appointments for same thing and too soon.. Duh, why u didn't call me to confirm... Either way, they decided to cancel and removed my appointments so there no trace of it....by the way.. If you ain't Caucasian or certain Asian.. I have been coming to M salon for several months now and received 4 haircuts. Tori the stylist who cuts my hair is very consistent and attentive when trimming up my sides and working in a fade, not only that but she remembers good detail on how I like my hair cut. Not only does she do a good job cutting hair but the scheduling seems to be open and flexible for the most part, which for me is a desirable aspect because I never know what my schedule looks being a licensed service plumber and I can be rather spontaneous on when I get want a fresh cut. I went here for a couple of years. I asked for red highlight at one of my appointments. My hair was burned off at the root. When I went back to speak to Mary about it, she said I must have dropped a cigarette on my head. Really? I don't smoke and I dropped it exactly where the highlights were supposed to be. I have been to M Salon several times over the past year. I have always received great service and their prices are amazing. However, my last experience was unacceptable. The receptionist booked my appointment for the wrong day, so after I drove 1.5 hours in rush hour traffic to make my appointment, I had to turn around and leave. The receptionist was extremely rude and unaccommodating. She asked if I had received a reminder call for my appointment. In the five or so times I have been to the salon, I have never received a reminder call, so I'm not sure why I would have expected it. I am not sure if it is new management, but I will not be back. Went in to get my grays colored, and I had scheduled my appointment with Mary online. I walk in and someone else saw me (Tori)... very sweet girl. I didn't say anything about that, but when you request a certain someone then that's who should be coloring your hair. I had brushed all my curls out before going in so my hair looked very dry. When Mary saw my hair she said, if we color your hair all over it's going to fall out... you have very dry hair! I told her that I had brushed my curls out and it just looks this way, when in actuality it is not that dry. So they mixed the color and did not leave the hair color on my hair for long...I guess she was scared that my hair was going to fall out. (Keep in mind, it's Tori doing my hair but. It's Mary dictating what needs to be done). So I mention that the hair color needs to stay on longer because my grays won't be fully colored, Mary says ..."no, no it's because of the cheap products people use". So I left it at that, didn't want to argue since Mary gets defensive and argumentative. Then Once they wash the color out, they have to straighten my curls with the flat iron in order for them to cut it. I rarely wear my hair straight, but I guess that's the only way Mary can cut curly hair. So I'm getting a haircut based off straight hair not curly hair. So once Tori straightens my hair, I'm passed off to Mary who does a quick trim. As I was leaving, I decided to tip Tori on my credit card and really hope that she got that tip. Mary is the one who checked me out so I'm not even sure if Tori got that tip, since Mary controls the register. So as I get in my car, I still see my grays!!!! This is exactly why I had told Mary that the product needs to be on longer. I ended up calling her salon that day to ask about the Brazilian blowouts they offer and I didn't even bring up my experience with them there. So I'm asking her questions about the Brazilian blowout and she just rudely answers my questions and tries to debunk any research I've done. I told her my questions may seem basic but I'm not a stylist so that's why I'm asking! Mary is rude, lacks customer service, she doesn't let you get a word In when talking. Mary Hong has been my stylist for 12 years. I would go nowhere else. I have a standing appointment. Although I am a male, which one would think is an easy cut, she ALWAYS cuts my hair just the way I like it. I have tried other places and they always mess it up. I have Eastern Europe hair and so it takes scissors, razors and a trimmer to get my hair to behave. They are busy, so it is best to show up and talk. The prices are very competitive at M Salon BUT, watch out girls, they messed up my natural curls and gave me a treatment that I did not ask for. I came in to get my hair shampooed and flatironed but after I washed it myself, my natural curls dissapared AND I have started loosing alot of hair in the shower and when I brushed it myself. I went in to complain because I'm sure hey gave me a Keratin treatment and they denied this. This is VERY unprofessional.
