I am SO HAPPY with the results of my Japanese straight perm. Ikumi is absolutely amazing! She is VERY thorough and takes her time with the whole process. Yes, it's a l-o-n-g process, but it is completely worth it. Ikumi did a wonderful job of explaining the process, every step of the way. She also explained how best to care for my hair afterwards, and went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable asking any questions I had. I've been to many, many salons with different variations of straight perms, and this, by far, has been my best experience. I can't emphasize this enough! My hair is extremely frizzy (think, caveman hair), so when people rush the job or don't take a careful look it at, the results are really meh. Ikumi was the opposite. She knows exactly what she's doing, and again, she's super thorough and very gentle. Oh, and bonus?! Her head and neck massage was to die for. I almost wanted to ask her if I could pay extra so she could give me a few more minutes of massage heaven. 10 stars if I could! I've been seeing Mei for my haircuts for yyyeaaarsss now, and I trust no one else with my hair! That being said.. I am a bad client :( I used to cut & color my hair often, but it's taken a total backseat.. my hair is lucky if it gets blow dried at night LOL. Anyways. I went to get a cut from Mei - and it was like seeing an old friend! She greeted me with a super warm welcome & listened to me rant about how I hated my long hair. Ikumi is amazing. I've been here twice and both times were great. Prices are reasonable for the area and the quality of their cuts are great. I paid $75 for a ladies haircut. I asked for a blunt lob cut and take a look at the pictures. The scalp massage during the shampoo was generous. Parking is easy and free right when you pull in. Highly recommended. read more

I've been going to M-irror salon for about two years and Ive thoroughly enjoyed every visit. Here are some of my thoughts and experiences: First off, the parking is difficult at times, but more so than not there's always a space open in front of the salon. If you can't find parking, just park somewhere nearby and walk over. It's not far from Ala Moana, if you don't mind a 5 minute journey. Why I chose M-irror was because another salon suggested them, since they didn't do digital perms. I had been researching it for a while and not many salons were doing it at the time. I called to make a reservations and the person on the phone was respectful and pleasant. I knew I'd enjoy my time there. I decided to get my perm done by the owner, Mei. She had wonderful reviews and I was very curious to hear her suggestions for what kind of digital perm would match my face and lifestyle (I'm not one to style my hair everyday, let alone blow dry it). I decided to go with curls that started higher on my head to give me volume. However, my curls would be loose and not too tight to make sure it didn't frizz from the "air drying". She was very knowledgeable and guided me through the whole process by explaining what she was doing and why. She also explained how to take care of my perm. It wasn't hard at all. My perm lasts for about 6 months and still looks fantastic. Oh oh! You even get a free drink while you wait! The lemon tea is pretty awesome. At the end of it all, I loved the perm and I've gone to her since that first appointment. I'm still very happy with my hair and hair stylist, and I think everyone should experience the pure wonder of Mei and her lovely salon. read more

My stylists' name was Cla and she was super sweet and did a great job on my extra long hair. She gave me layers and cut off most of my dead hair, while not losing a ton of length. Would highly recommend her! Their prices are great and I'm usually charged much more because of the length of my hair, but I was charged shop minimum. I seldom write reviews but I gotta tell ya I love coming here because of my awesome friend CLA!! She makes me so feel so darn handsome after every cut! Not an easy feat for my complicated hair with two or three swirls. As someone in the public's eye, I care about how I look and my hair is such a defining feature of me, that I can't allow a confused haircut that makes me look fruity or old or worse yet, makes me look like I have a flat top! Anyways, I love the way you're greeted as they ask you if you want something to drink. Plus they have more options than most! The head massages while getting your hair washed is always amazing! Then you get a little lap pillow when you sit in the chair. Also, the way they protect your neck from little hairs getting thru is genius, since I virtually never get any hairs down my back, and I can go straight to something else right after! I can even get a hot towel to wipe my face clean before I leave! Cla always cuts my hair jUst right and never goes scissor crazy, such that I'm even able to rock my hair dry with no product and still look good. I've tried other fancy salons and they're just not worth the price! This is the only salon experience I want to have and it's all thanks to my home girl Cla! Love ya girl! read more

I've had terrible experiences when it came to hair salons where they would cut SO much more than what you intended for them to and etc., so I was definitely quite nervous to change up my dark plain black hair. I called and went in for a consultation with Cla. She was sweet and had me seated. She gave me her thoughts on how much highlights she wanted to add and the shade. I trusted her because she seemed to know what she was talking about and what she was doing. She was sweet and offered drinks a couple times. And I was just mesmerized at the work she was doing tbh. It was interesting to watch someone do your hair, you know? I was supposed to go in to re-tone? my hair but due to covid-19 I haven't gone back YET. I do highly recommend this place if you've had bad experiences with hair. Mirror is a Asian hair salon that has a Japanese salon type vibes mostly catering/targeted towards Asian hair. It's located across Chun Wah Kam, right after Wedding Ring Shop. It's not the biggest most fanciest place, but it's simple and clean. I like mirror salon and get haircuts with Mei the owner because it's not one of those gossipy type salons or place where you feel as if you have to talk a lot during your haircut or risk feeling awkward. This might just be my preference but some days I just don't feel like being conversational.. with Mei she makes it easy to just come in and get your hair done. also, overall the salon is also pretty quiet. I trust my hair with Mei because I can see her attention to detail and have always left satisfied with my trims. I also always get a Japanese moisture treatment. Its pretty pricey for a haircut and I do spend quite a bit but it's worth it for the quality. They offer balayage and perm services as well. Love this place! It's been a week since I had a haircut with Ikumi-San. I had a layered cut and a bang. She charged me $70 for the haircut + tax + tips. I paid around $84 in total. Service: Service was amazing - I called last minute and they were able to fit me in after work! The salon is very clean and trendy. The girl who cut my hair was so sweet. I got a Japanese straightening touch-up after a year of terrible roots, and both Mei and Ikumi did wonderful work on my hair. They were very careful about everything they did, and I was able to tell they had plenty of expert experience doing it. I am usually very nervous about this procedure because it can permanently damage your hair if done incorrectly, but I was relaxed the whole time I was here because I knew my hair was in good hands. I've done Japanese straightening at other salons for years now, and it can be hit and miss. Sometimes, I even end up with burns on my scalp. Not here! M-irror Salon is the best place you could go to for Japanese straightening. At the end, Mei gave me a haircut with plenty of layers (my hair is thick and heavy) and offered some advice on care for my hair's specific needs. Everyone there was so friendly the whole 3+ hours during my procedure, and my hair turned out amazing. I am about to go back for my 8-month touch-up and I am very excited. I did not even notice any damage to my hair after this treatment last time, and that is because the technicians know how to do it correctly, and they use the absolute best products. I've been to M-irror before to get a digital perm by Mei (which was great and I had gotten a ton of compliments) a few years ago but hadn't been back in a while because I've been on the mainland. Today I just got my hair cut and colored by Ikumi! I don't normally give many reviews on yelp but I want more people to come to M-irror! I showed Ikumi picture references for the long layered style that I was looking for and the color that I was hoping to get. She informed me at the beginning that the color would come out more warm toned than the reference which was totally fine! I appreciate when hairstylists are upfront and knowledgeable about what colors are possible to achieve so that I can anticipate what to expect, rather than other places that try to wing it. In the end I think warm-tone colors suit my skin tone better! Prior to the appointment, my really long hair had been dyed brown (by a different place) so I came in with 6 inches of black roots and had certain sections of my hair that were lighter than other sections. Ikumi first cut my hair and would always check with me if I liked the length of the layers and if I liked the thickness of my hair because she also thinned it out for me. Then she and her assistant took their time to apply the dye/bleach to my hair. If my hair had been all one color it would have been easier to apply, but because my hair had patches of different shades of brown/brass they had to apply more(/process certain sections longer) to certain areas and less to others to make sure the color turned out more even. I appreciate both of them for taking their time and paying attention to the details of the hair that they were working with, especially when it wasn't an easy task. Ikumi made sure I wasn't in any discomfort, gave me a really pleasant scalp massage after washing my hair, and blowed dried my hair. Then she trimmed my hair again to make sure that the layers/my bangs were even. I loved her thoughtfulness and attention to detail throughout this whole process and I loved how the cut and color came out! In the end I paid 70 for the cut + 100 for the color; with tax and tip it came out to be ~230. I will definitely come back to get my roots re-done by Ikumi and in the future for other cuts/coloring. read more

But let me back up a bit--four years ago I was going through an experimental hair color phase with none other than Mei, a former terra by afloat stylist at the time. For three hours every year, I sit in a chair where the process goes a little like this: wash hair, put softener solution, wash hair, blow dry, flat iron, put neutralizer solution, wash hair, blow dry, flat iron. Bam! Straight hair achieved. This style is best for people who religiously flat iron their hair & most importantly, never get tired of pin-straight hair as an everyday look.
