We were in need of a good haircut in the Honolulu area and our cousin recommended Dennis at Style Loft Hair Studio. He is a skilled professional, incredibly kind, detailed and wonderful. A truly lovely person who gives truly amazing haircuts! He also works with an awesome assistant who helps you with all the details. The hair studio has a welcoming vibe and is very nice as well. I had an amazing experience at Style Loft Hair Studio. The space was very clean and well organized. My stylist Chanel took me to my seat asked me what I wanted and went straight to her craft. I was getting braids for the first time. Her attention to details was on point. Love my time at Style Loft Hair Studio and will definitely return and tell everyone about this gem right next to Ala Moana mall. read more

Pam and Chanel are amazing once again! Easy to schedule with her and quick to reply. I love how they have a coffee bar, Pam made a nice hot latte for me while we waited for the color in my hair to sit in. I decided to do something different, and went with a red tint. Love that she never needed to bleach my virgin hair. While the color sat in, she also cut and styled my daughter's hair. It came out so great! My daughter loved it and she loved being treated like a princess with a hair wash too. Can't wait for my next appt! Thank you as always read more

She also recommends the best products and offers me services that benefit ny hair health. From red, to brown, to blonde, to black... there's no other person I'd go to that I trust with my hair! My review is for the extraordinarily talented and kind Sarah Renée. I have been seeing Sarah Renée for over a year and I found her after searching for an experienced stylist accustomed to doing both platinum hair color and pixie cuts. With her years of experience in Washington DC before she relocated to Oahu, Sarah Renée brings with her a level of experience and sophistication to her craft that is hard to find these days. I love how she makes my hair look and I love how she treats and cares for my hair, always being thoughtful as to the health of my hair. She is a great listener and responsive to the requests of her clients-- she is a perfectionist in the best way. read more

My wife has been cutting her hair with Vince for some time now and would not trust her hair to anyone else. She even followed him from his previous salon to Style Loft Hair Studio. A couple of her friends cut their hair with Vince, too. And recently, our twin daughters - now that they are preteens and are more picky about their hairstyles - are happily clients of Vince as well. Seems like all the stylists at Style Loft are independent - booking their own appointments, etc. But I'm sure if you called, they'd get you in contact with Vince (or anyone else) to schedule an appointment. Salon location is convenient - across Ala Moana Shopping Center - so lots of parking and things to do (while you're waiting for your wife and daughters to get their hair cut, washed and styled). COVID safety protocols in place - temperature check and hand sanitizing on entry, stylists' stations and hair washing stations divided by partitions, mask wearing mandatory, only clients allowed inside - no additional guests - to minimize the number of people in the salon. Although I can't speak from experience (bald is beautiful), but if my wife and daughters are happy, I'm happy, too. You know the saying: Happy wife = happy life! read more

ok.. I'm in love with this place. I LOVE a hair salon that has an actual bar in it that you can enjoy a lovely glass of Prosecco while you get your hair colored. yaaaaay!!! I mean ladies, hello... we are there 2-3 hours... kind of nice to have a little cocktail to kill the time. lol. My go to guy is KEVIN LEE. You can't go wrong with him, simply amazing. This salon is located across the street from Shokudo and next to Tea Boss and Pho One on Kapiolani. Sorry, I don't know the name of the building itself. It's near Ala Moana and a few minute walk to Don Quijote. The salon's location is in an odd place (IMO) because it's on the side of the building and can be easily missed unless you're specifically looking for the salon. The Salon opened in January or February so it's fairly new. Many of the stylist have been in the field for many years!! The stylist community is smaller than I thought. My stylist asked me about my previous stylist and she knew her!! I parked at Target and walked to the Salon. You can also park on the bottom level of Ala Moana. As far as I know, street parking is limited and not sure if you're able to park in the building's lot. As I walked in, I thought the salon had a lot of space. Great for both stylist and client to walk around and enough space between stations. The receptionist checked me in and guided me to the dressing room to put a robe on. She also asked me if I wanted a beverage as well :) On this day, I came in to color my hair. I sent my stylist a few pictures of what I wanted. The stylist did warn me that the process was long. Thanks for the heads up!! We highlighted, washed, toned, washed, then styled. The cost of my hair coloring was about $200. IMO is a great price! Overall, I loved the result of my hair and look forward to coming back. It's hard to find a stylist that meets your hair needs. I highly recommend any of the stylist at Style Loft. read more

I have been seeing Dennis and his assistant, Taryn for about 15 years while they were at Salon 808 and Dada. I've always had a great experience when I see them and I leave my hair in their hands to work their magic. I'm always happy with the end result. This last visit, I got more layers, highlights and a balayage. Love it love it! I don't trust anyone else with my hair. Dennis is also great with the buzzer. He cut both my boys' hair and they were very happy with it. By far, Dennis and Taryn are awesome! read more

The staff and ambiance were nice. My hair looked better when I left, although I definitely didn't get what I asked or paid for. I went in for balayage and thought it was odd that the stylist used foil. I was expecting a hand painted look but ended up getting a ton of mini highlights. I was charged for balayage but was disappointed with the colour result. If the stylist didn't know how to do it properly she should have said so, right? read more

Left with chemical burns (skin was swollen, then became scabs and peeled off) and hair melted off. Which led the stylist to cut my hair because it melted and then got charged for the cut. And I'm not the only person this happened to, my classmates (we attend PM) friend went to the same stylist and had the same thing happen maybe about a week after. I paid $350 which is absolute bs, for burned skin, melted hair, and toner that washed out the next day due to my hair being highly damaged). read more

Five star for Haugen, he is very gifted in his craft. My second time and not my last. I was recommended to him by my three daughters. My blonde highlights have never looked so good, and he always gives a great cut and blow dry as well, not to mention the relaxing neck massage during the shampoo. I'm giving a star deduction to the salon's lighting, they need to put some soft light strips down the side of mirrors. You want your guests sitting in the chair to see their face in good lighting. The recessed ceiling lighting may work to make hair look great, but it makes an already old person look even older. I'm giving the star back for friendly staff. It's always a plus when the receptionists are friendly, and welcoming. Next time I'll have to get a drink from their bar, yes, they have a bar that serves more than just sparkling water read more

Go see Frances! I've been going to her for the past couple of years now and I trust her with my hair! I have long and thick hair and she takes her time with it(cut and balayage). If you haven't found someone you like or trust with your hair, give her a shot. The salon is located by ala Moana. Easy to park your car on the bottom floor by Macy's and walk over so free parking! Now that we're in the middle of a pandemic, the salon is taking extra precautions - sanitizing clients hands and doing a thermal check when you check in. They have partitions up between the stylists and everyone wears their masks. I felt very safe there. read more

Kevin was my stylist. He charged me $240 for the worst cut and color. My hair was down to my waist. He never asked me if I wanted to donate my hair. He literally took 3 sections and cut it straight across. And don't get me started with the color. I could've color it myself and it would've came out better. He had 2 other clients plus myself at the same time. He was rushing. Now i have to go else where and get it fix. It will cost me another $250.00. Oh, and i tipped him $60. I've been wanting to do something different with my hair since before covid, and I was long overdue for a cut. My bf's stepmom turned my hair into a quarantine project, and needless to say I shouldn't have trusted anyone else with my hair. When Style Loft reopened, I contacted Haugen right away! He's highly sought after, but he was able to accommodate me really quickly. I wanted to go from black to silver, and he worked his magic. He was able to even out my hair and achieved the silver I was going for. He pays a lot of attention to detail and always aims for perfection; it definitely shows! Truly appreciate the care he takes in his work. Parking was easy! You can park on the lowest level of the Macy's lot and walk over. The salon itself is practicing social distancing. Hand sanitizer and a temperature check are required to enter, and they have partitions up between clients. Felt nice and clean. I love my new hair, thanks again Haugen! read more

There are spaces that instantly draw you in and emanate a sense of relaxation and tranquility. The feel and flow of this gorgeous salon is modern, minimal, zen, open, and unpretentious. An urban oasis that will invite you in, and you'll want to stay. Haugen has been my stylist for around 5 years and counting. Briefly, I had been to a few other stylists, and realized that not all stylists are created equally! Haugen really gets to know your hair, your likes, your lifestyle, etc. and will execute a color/cut/style that complements and suits you. He is also very blunt, and will tell you if/why something will not work for your hair type. This may hurt at first, but sometimes he knows your hair better than you do. Just trust his talent and expertise. If you are seeking a stylist or salon, Haugen and company at Style Loft will treat you and your hair beautifully. So ever since my hair lady moved away years ago, I was never able to find someone that I wanted to stick with. No more salon hopping for me! Shaina was such an amazing stylist and really listened to what I wanted without trying to change my mind. (Most stylists love my long, layered hair. Away with it!) She's also a great conversationalist. You won't ever get bored! The salon itself is brand new, built from the ground up and only opened last month in January. Everything is so beautiful inside! I love the vibe that you get in there and it wasn't very busy at all so that was nice. And even if it was, there is tons of space between stations so you have some room! After checking in, there is an adorable waiting area. When your stylist is ready for you, they will escort you to a changing area where you can get comfortable in one of their black robes. This is just my personal experience, but Shaina washed my hair and gave me a head massage (amazing), cut my hair, and then styled it into soft curls when I was finished. My total came out to $81 (including tip)! For everything I experienced, it was definitely worth the price. I was also happy to see that each stylist had their own individual credit card machine, so no more wondering if my credit tips actually went to them. Overall, I'm so happy with my experience and I think I found my new spot! read more

Love this place! Haugen is the best, always listens to what kind of style/cut I'm going for and delivers. He offers his input, and even gives me pointers on how to style my new 'do. I went in a few days ago and decided to bite the bullet and get bangs, and I'm so happy I did! Showed him a few pictures and he nailed it -- exactly what I was going for. You can tell he really cares about his clients, and takes the time to make sure they are satisfied. I totally trust his opinion and expertise. Style Loft itself is really nice looking, trendy and upbeat. Awesome salon tucked away in the same building as Ala Moana Dental Care. Entrance fronts Mahukona across from Shokudo. Parking is available in the building, enter from the alley way by Ala Moana Hotel. Or do what I did and park at Ala Moana Shopping Center and take a short walk across the street to the salon then do some shopping at Ala Moana Shopping Center - two birds one stone. The salon has a cool modern retro feel. With chic interior decor capturing both an old school and contemporary ambiance. Very spacious with a warm and friendly staff. And the best part, they have a good rotation of jams, my kinda place! Scheduled an appointment with Howard, though walk-ins are welcomed. Howard was super friendly, helped me fix my mop, gave awesome recommendations and even scheduled my next appointment. Love it! Style Loft will definitely be my new salon of choice! This review is for Jackie Kouture. Avoid her at all costs. Think twice before you book with her because you will be punished and robbed of your time and money if she cancels on you and you will not get your deposit back. She does business with absolutely no morals. She cancelled last minute due to unforeseen personal reasons which is understandable and am truly sorry for. But what I don't understand is that she would keep her clients' deposit for her own cancelling. Yes, she did apologize and said she would honor your deposit and give you a discount even years later but thats ONLY if you rebook (assuming you have availability to rebook and she has availability in her schedule - in which I did not given my limited time frame on the island). Her reasoning is because she can't accommodate for one specific client. This means that if all her clients (7 total) she cancelled on could not reschedule, she would be keeping all 7 of our deposits for something we had less than 24 hours notice on. If the client (me) were to cancel less than 24 hours from appointment, my $100 deposit would've been forfeited which I understand. But what I don't understand why it's okay for the business to cancel less than 24 hours and still keep the $100 deposit because that deposit goes to holding a service I will not be receiving (this is double standards). Her reasoning is that it's a nonrefundable deposit even though her policy states that deposit will go to a service (in which I will not be receiving due to her inflexible policy). But yes punish your clients for this and make them pay because that makes sense. She said she would also take into consideration me calling her out that she had no morals for doing business like this and "insulting" her for having no morals. I really hope she does take this into consideration so she can rethink her policy which she refuses to make exceptions for so she doesn't waste any more clients time and money. You've been warned - good luck with her. read more

Style Loft just opened this month. This hair studio is super clean and spacious. The design and decor is something like what you would see in a high end salon in New York. Hands-down, this is going to be the next trendy hair studio in Honolulu! I really like that the chairs are not close together so you have your own space to relax and not have to listen to other peoples conversations. My stylist for the past 10 years is Howard and I've been following him around every time he moved. He's the best stylist I've ever had and he's so down to earth. There are other stylists there that are also bilingual - Japanese, Korean, Chinese, they've got you covered. I saw a celebrity walk in for her appointment today (someone from Magnum PI). They are also working on opening a little bar area in the near future. A bar in a hair salon? YES! I just parked in the shopping center and walked over. The studio is in the building next to Shokudo and right next to a dental clinic. read more

Thank you to the amazing Haugen for the cut and color!!! I basically wanted long hair with waves and low maintenance color. In addition, I needed something that was not out of the natural color scheme because of work. Haugen delivered! Got a cut/color from Trish and couldn't be happier. Took about 10 inches of hair off and ended up with a cute lob (?) a little shorter than I was anticipating, but I rarely get my hair cut and it literally grows like a weed. Plus, no complaints because it ended up being so cute. Trish really took into consideration my (self admitted) inability to get a scheduled cut/color. I try to get my hair trimmed every time I come back home to Oahu to visit but as I get older, those visits seem to be few and far between. She hand painted some balayage and let me know how easy it was to upkeep and showed how regrowth wouldn't make it look like I was drastically overdue for a color. The Style Loft in itself is so cute, all the stylists there are super sweet and helpful. Would definitely return every time I'm on Oahu. read more

After almost 4 weeks of resting my hair I found another salon but this time has actually great stylist fix the monstrosity Jackie aka Jackie couture gave me 3 stylist pointed out every error she made for one she foiled to thick of sections witch is why my hair did not lift evenly for 2 she used the wrong formulation of toner for the level she lifted me to for 3 she rushed a balayage done professionally no matter how thick or thin your hair is it's done in 4 hours minimal Jackie done a hair cut style and lightening all within 2 and a half hours she rushed on me she also didn't cut my hair evenly one side of my hair was shorter the new stylist had to fix that as well not only can she not do a proper ombré/balayage she can't cut hair eather and has a very bad attitude she subs her clients on Instagram? Very unprofessional if you want your hair done by a woman who rushes and just wants to get you out of your chair then go to her she's perfect for that btw Jackie no one wanted to be a Karen or leave the salon looking like a kardashian but no one also wanted to leave looking like a Pomeranian dog! read more

I want to give a big MAHALO to Trisha O and Dayna for the fabulous job they did to my hair! For 20 years I dyed my hair black at a very reputable establishment that was cheap and fast. I would have to go in every 4 weeks to keep ahead of the dreaded gray hairs that seem to come out more and more as the days go by. I wanted to change up my look so Trisha offered to put highlights in my hair, assuring me that it would hide my grays better and it would soften up my look. Trisha, the apprentice, Dayna the experienced mentor, formulated my hair potion specifically for me and strategized the method Trisha would use to apply. Since I had very dark non-virgin hair they informed me that it may take a couple appointments to achieve the color I want. I felt like they were being so honest with me and that they had an invested interest in my hair journey. So then we started, Trisha took her time, applying and then reapplying, checking and double checking, rinsing, washing, massaging, conditioning, and having some great conversations with me. Dayna came around to check on us, advising Trisha, and assisting when need to. Even her assistant came over and helped. What I also noticed at this salon is the team work everyone has there. They shared things, they helped one another, they gave compliments to other clients, the working environment is friendly and healthy. When the staff gets along with each other the clients feel much more relaxed and comfortable. In the end, I am so happy with the results and so grateful for the time and effort Trisha and Dayna put in to make me feel renewed and fresh! Thank you ladies and I look forward to seeing you guys again! read more

Today I went into the salon last minute. I moved to the island just a few months ago. I previously worked front desk at a high end salon in SoCal. I needed a trim badly today so I got on yelp and found a high end salon with 5 stars. First off I did not receive a 5 star service for myself. I went in asking for just my undercut to be reshaved and for the LENGTH of my hair to be trimmed 1-1.5 inch. The stylist proceeded to trim 3 inches off of my length and gave me layers. I asked for my length ONLY to be trimmed, NOT layers. Because of the limpness of my hair and my undercut I now have a shag with these layers. I would have rather had the stylist cut me a complete shoulder length bob instead of what he did on his own term. I would not recommend this place to anyone. If one thing I have learned from previously working front desk of a high end salon is you listen to a client. If you feel like you need to recommend something about their hair please consult with them first. I had zero desire to have layers cut Into my hair again. read more

To Jackie: Please don't make up things about how it's unethical to refund a nonrefundable deposit. Things happen. When you have unforeseen incidents that cause you to lose business, it sucks. But you should not compromise your morals and screw over your clients. Let's be clear- not giving someone their $100 deposit back for a less than 24-hr cancellation on YOUR part is unethical. Not the other way around. I know it. Your other clients know it. And I'm sure you know it. At least acknowledge that, and don't make something up about how it's "unfair" to your other clients that you cancelled on. Also, let's run it back real quick as to why this is an issue...since apparently it's quite hard for you to understand. The point of a deposit is to make sure clients don't cancel last-minute. Why? Because you reserve that appointment slot for the client. Obviously if someone cancels last-minute, you can't fill that time, you lose potential business, and therefore lose money. So the necessity of a deposit is evident. It's insurance for you, and the client is essentially paying a deposit to reserve your time and service. However- if YOU have to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances, then you are not keeping that reservation for the client. Nor are you providing that service to the client. And that is not at the fault of the client. So it would make sense to give that deposit back if they cannot reschedule. Why? Because it's not the client's fault that you would be losing time and money for that cancellation. There's no more insurance to consider at this point. Because you're not providing that time or service to anybody at that point. It's not like you could have filled that cancellation with someone else, so you're actually not losing any potential business. YOU CANCELLED. It doesn't matter if you have 7, 100, or 0 other clients that were also cancelled on... you handle them the same way. If they can reschedule, great! They are reserving another time and service opportunity. If they cannot, then same thing. Give back their deposit. It's really not that hard. Anyway..keep your $100 I guess. Hope it makes you happy. Just remember this: that is the kind of attitude that gets you to lose lasting relationships, loyalty, and business.. all things that are worth more than $100 that you keep immorally. read more
