My criteria is pretty stringent- reasonable pricing, hair lightening and gray coverage w/ the least damaging agents, the ability to listen to what I want for my hair and someone easy to walaau w/ and Sarah Rose is "The One"! Look at my hair. I love it! And she found my rightful part! Chii huuu! She gave me an appointment date and time that was very convenient and I didn't have to wait weeks. She is easy to get a hold of and is a text away. The Salon is located in the Ala Moana building and I parked on the 2nd floor of the mall. I only knew about Profiles is cause I followed Madoka from Salon 808, which the owner of profiles used to work at Salon 808. It's nice and cozy, located on 5th floor of Ala Moana Building. There's no receptionist. You kinda need to do your research and make appt with one of the hairstylist that work there. They offer coffee, tea and snacks! There's only 2 shampoo stations so if it's busy, you'll have to wait. Overall, this salon is very clean and nice! read more

I was fortunate enough that Kihan took me on as a client since I was referred by a friend who has been seeing him for years now. Service is phenomenal! Sara Rose with Lily came to my rescue! My regular hair stylist in NC "tried something new" on me. Something that should never be done prior to a vacation or something important! I lived in Honolulu 2014/2015 and Sara Rose was my stylist then so I took a chance on seeing if she was available. She worked me in and boy am I HAPPY. I could not look myself in the mirror the way it had been done prior!! Not only is the atmosphere soothing, calm, quiet but Lily when she washes your hair does a scalp massage that is wonderful! The product smells so very good as well- aromatherapy. The color is the best it has looked in a very long time and the cut is very easy to do myself plus very cute! They saved my vacation!!! Curly girls! Visit Tiffany! I've been searching for someone who can cut (shape) my curly hair and Tiffany did an amazing job. She asked a lot of questions about my hair, products I use, and how it was cut when I liked it most. She also cut it dry and was able to get rid of all my dead stringy ends while keeping the perfect shape of my hair. Profiles is a salon where all the hairdressers are renting their chairs, so each one basically works for themselves. So they set their own rates, hours etc. I go there because I've followed the lovely Mayleen to Profiles after the salon she was at closed. I love Mayleen, she does a fantastic job on my hair, people are always asking me who does my hair. So, let me say, if you go to Profiles, go to Mayleen. She's fabulous wrapped in a bundle of awesome. I've been going to her for almost 6 years. But going to a location like this is a bit of a switch for me - I liked going to an Aveda Day Spa/Salon. It was convenient to be able to do a couple of services in one place and get my Aveda products while I was there too. Plus, it was generally very relaxing. The salon is in the Bank of Hawaii building next to Ala Moana mall. I could do without walking down the hall, past the elevator, of an office building with foils in my hair to go to use the ladies room, but I guess that can't be helped. You can park at the mall and walk to the building. Parking is free at the mall, so that's a plus. Don't get me wrong, Profiles is comfortable, just not "ahhh-spaaaa". It's very clean (if a wee-bit sterile) and busy. They have coffee and tea. It's a bit odd walking into a salon and not having anyone to greet you or say hello. You just sort of find your stylist or hope they find you at the front door. Making an appointment means calling the stylist directly. The website has contact information for each stylist. K I H A N-the hair whisperer It had been awhile since I last had the pleasure (more like honor) of sitting in Kihan's chair. I went on a mad search to find him since he had moved from another salon. Thank you to my fellow Yelpers for pointing me to Profiles so that I could reconnect with my hair whisperer. Kihan was super quick to respond to my text message (find his info on the Profiles website). We set up my appointment for today. I literally did a countdown of the days to this appointment. My hair is very thick and has a wave to it which makes frizzy. I've colored it a few times since my last appointment and the texture of my hair really paid for it. Of course, I showed up to my appointment right on time. And there he was....in all his fabulousness!!! After greeting me like a longtime friend, he went straight to evaluating my hair. I told him he could do whatever he wanted. His assistant, who was so sweet, gave me a good wash and treatment to calm the craziness. And then he went to work in his true Kihan fashion. I've had my hair cut by a few stylists in my day, but none as skilled as Kihan. Blow dry (not your average blow out), flat iron and then.....it began. Like a cross between a samurai (precise cuts with scissors) and an artist, he mesmerizes me with his ability to visualize what he wants and how he gets to the final result. It's truly a thing to witness! I tried to keep my excitement in, but I was losing my mind over and over as he cut through my mane. When he was done I was left speechless at the smooth texture and cut that perfectly framed my face. It was amazing! Kihan, you gave me a cut that brought me back to a place that I needed to be. I found my confidence again and am going to try my best do justice to the fierceness that is my new haircut. It seems as if salons in Hawaii are more about price and pace then quality. Profiles is the direct opposite. My stylist Tiffany is on time and efficient. She never seems rushed or distracted and always focuses on me. She is super flexible with my hair and always is willing to try something new. She puts her own spin on an idea that I have and makes it custom for me!! I also like that all the stylists are very talented and use their own brand of products and tools. I hate it when I am pushed into buying a product becase the salon focuses on it. I especially like the coffee/tea station that is always well stocked and clean! A truly PROFFESIONAL SALON! Nice salon and was greeted properly and asked if I wanted a beverage. Sarah Rose was my stylist and she really took care of me. I told her to make me look younger. She chose to lighten up my face with color and balayage- which she as said would look more natural than highlights. She was totally right color was beautiful. My hair is thin and also wanted a cut to make it look fuller. While keeping my length, she layered my hair beautifully, framing my face so it didn't look so drabby anymore. Salon is a bit hard to find and parking can be a bit challenging but other than that it's great! Location - It's in the building that's almost attached to Ala Moana Center. It looks like there's a space ship on the roof. The salon itself is located on the 5th floor. Parking - The closest way is by entering through Kapiolani Blvd and go up the ramp to Ala Moana Shopping Center. You can park on the second floor. Salon - It's a lot smaller than your average salon. When I was there only 3-4 stylists were in and since it's like an independent salon stylists seem to come and go throughout the day. The waiting room had just a few chairs and when you enter one of the stylists comes out and asks you if you'd like something to drink. Sarah Rose - I contacted her because of a Groupon she had and she offered the Groupon rate even without the Groupon itself. When I first called her I wanted to dye my hair a particular type of red but was afraid it wouldn't look good on my naturally black hair and darker complexion. I texted her a few pictures of my then current hair color and what I wanted it to look like. She responded what she could do and I made my appointment for the following week. At the appointment it's always a little awkward with your hairstylist. What do you talk about? Why is she sharing such personal matters with me if we just met? But after spending a few hours with that person you really get to know them. There were only 2 hair washing stations and since my appointment was at 3pm there wasn't a wait to use anything. I found Mayleen Lau and Profiles salon through Living Social. You have to understand, I came from DC having a celebrity hair stylist. I'm EXTREMELY particular about my hair and my hair requires special care. I'm use to having outstanding professionals take care of my hair and after experiencing what was suppose to be a Honolulu's Best, salon and hairstylist, which I believe was grossly overstated, I was not impressed with what Honolulu had to offer, so I was skeptical. After a positive consultation experience with Mayleen, I decided to book the appointment. Not only did she make me feel extremely comfortable, most importantly, she truly listened to my needs and vision for my hair. She took her time, never making me feel rushed and continued to style my hair until she got it just right. In the past, if I went to other stylist because of a move or happened to be out of state for a while, I would always have to go home and finish styling my hair to my satisfaction. Best haircut I've had since moving to Hawaii 3 years ago! I went to Joy for a haircut and color after seeing the cute cut my co-worker's wife debuted. She said Joy has been cutting her hair for 8 years, so I decided to try her out. Joy was super friendly and took time to have a hair consultation to look at the pictures I brought and listen to my hair saga story. GREAT hair salon! I did my hair with Lorraine who is very nice and down to earth and REALLY delivered with my cut! I have been trying to rock bangs for years and no one was able to cut it just the way I liked it...but Lorraine did! You can tell she really knows what she's doing and she listens to what you want. She also doesn't try to push any expensive product on you. My husband goes to Sarah Rose and not only does he love his cuts, I approve! Good job Sarah! Went to Sarah Rose who a friend recommended and although I had been with another stylist for over 12 years, the other stylist wouldn't fit me into her schedule for a cut prior my Italy trip even with a weeks notice. I've been cutting my hair with ERIN K since 2007. She is very prompt, friendly and personable. I look forward to my appointments since I like a fresh haircut feeling. I cut my hair every three weeks. She books my appointments around my preferences and keeps me informed weeks in advance. This makes it so easy for me to keep my appointments with Erin. She gets a frequent customer, I get frequent haircuts. Erin's prices for men's haircuts are very reasonable. In fact, she probably should charge more. I can't imagine anyone else cutting my hair. Profiles has easy parking in the Ala Moana business building and the shopping center. The salon itself is well lit, clean and well kept. I'm in quite early so I don't typically see a crowd. There's free coffee and lots of reading material. You can find many hair care products if you are into it. Stylists are friendly and attentive. Sarah Rose is thee best!!!! I emailed her the night before asking if she could cut and color my hair. And BAM! She promptly emailed me back and I was her first appointment the next day! She is very warm, friendly, and makes you feel like you're one of her girl friends. She is also honest! I told her that I needed that deep treatment for my terrible split ends. Towards the end she said she isn't going to do that since the split ends got cut off. I think that is very very important that she didn't do a treatment just to bump up my cost. Nice professional hair salon, I've been seeing Erin for a few years now and she always gives me the perfect cut. She can do any style you bring her, wether it's the funky Asian cut to the more conservative clean cut which I prefer. My friends wife see's her now too and she does fantastic work on women as well. I love Cori!! I struggled for years with finding a good stylist, who was reasonably priced. Luckily, I stumbled upon Cori! I am a person who does not know a lot about styling hair and I really rely on Cori for suggestions. Cori has a great eye and is very knowledgeable about hair. She also is fast and never runs late. Her hours are fabulous. She works Monday-Saturday and takes late appointments on the weekdays. She is very reachable, as you can email her or call her. She also spends a lot of time with teaching me how to style my hair. I really appreciate this. Came here based on Yelp reviews. To be honest, it wasn't my first choice but the other salon's stylist was unresponsive to calls, and this place seemed a bit pricey. Things happen for a reason I guess. Was able to book a last minute appt with Sarah Rose. Got there and had myself some complimentary coffee while waiting. The salon was a bit small, but looked nice and had a good vibe to it. Everyone had a smile on their face. I was able to explain and show Sarah what I wanted and we discussed some minor adjustments that would fit my face/head shape. She was very easy to conversation with and we had some laughs while she did her magic. In the end, I was happy with the experience and would definitely come back. Sarah had a great personality, and it doesn't hurt that she was easy on the eyes. P.S. Due to construction, it is a bit confusing on how to get in. You have to follow the inner sidewalk on the BoH entrance level, and enter through the corner door. Might not look like it, but it is possible to enter through the ground floor.
