Ok I definitely found my go-to lady for hair cuts and this time I mean it! She's such a sweet Korean aunty who's a joy to talk to and her prices are more on the affordable side for the service you get. It's super easy to book an online appointment with her and she texts you the day of to confirm and sends you a picture of her location. I believe she recently moved because of the new condo rises. There's a parking lot (the alleyway by Pandora Cafe) and she validates your ticket after your session (you could also do street parking). It's a small shop so it's best to come alone to accommodate social distancing. I did a maintenance haircut where she cut off a couple inches, gave me textured layers, and face framing bangs -- all for $57 w/o tip. I had the same haircut somewhere else for double the price so my wallet was happy. She helped styled my stubborn hair and was able to curl it and surprisingly it lasted throughout the night! Very glad I saw Kathy last week for balayage and hair cut. I was able to make a last minute same day appointment on Tuesday. She also texted me the details about parking. She works at Aube, which is a Japanese salon located on Makaloa st. The building she used to provide her services, there has been a lot of construction going on (new condo being constructed) so she moved to this salon. I told her I wanted balayage brown color and used a picture to illustrate it. She also recommended me to do some slight layers since my hair was thick and heavy. Kathy took her time and did such quality work on my hair. She even noticed that my bangs that I'm growing out, the color was not align with the balayage. So she went ahead and did some slight coloring to some of the bangs. After removing the foil, I saw the a big difference. I love her, so funny and sweet to converse with. She has magical hands. She also mentioned to me that when I come back next, can do change the color of the balayage for $60, take shorter amount of time. She recommended me this conditioner for colored hair that can be purchased from Amazon. Totally would recommend you see her. read more

If you go on her website she has a special 'Wash and blow dry' for $40 / 45 min. I booked it and I called her the day of the appointment to check if it was scheduled and it was. It's convenient as it's on makaloa St in the Aube salon. You can park in the back there is like a little side street you go behind the building. She was very nice and I asked her if she could curl my hair since it was my birthday and I was going out later, she did exactly that.. Wash and blow dry and curled it for $40. Curls held up pretty well and I'd say it was worth it. Don't have to go to the dry bars that's way expensive. Will Def go back maybe try a cut or book for that same special. Very happy! read more

Location: First of all this place is kind of hard to find, but what I found helpful was it's the building right across of the Korean Park that's near Sanders Piano. It's also near the Kaheka Professional Building. It's the second floor of this building and on the street side, it doesn't say Salon Trendy 808, but Salon Trendy with Korean characters so don't be alarmed if the sign doesn't look right! Parking: The parking lot is on Liona Street so if you turn right onto Kaheka street and then the first left on Liona Street, you shouldn't miss it. If you bus it, Bus #2 dropped me off near the building (unbeknowst to me) so all you had to do was walk through the entry way as shown in the picture. This 3-star experience began with an attempt to make an appointment using a Groupon deal that I just got (Haircut, conditioning and eye brow wax). I was able to get in on a Saturday, with a week's notice. I didn't receive a text confirmation like she said I would but when I called back a few days later to change my appointment time, I received a text from the salon shortly thereafter. Despite my leaving a little earlier to find the salon, I got there right on time. Upon entering the lot just off Kaheka and behind King, the parking lot attendant greeted me. There's another salon in the neighboring building but I quickly found the "Trendy" sign and I asked to park on that side of the lot. *Be sure to bring your ticket to get it validated at the salon. She mentioned no elevator in her text and so I walked up the steps to the salon after walking by several old Korean ladies eating in what looked like a kitchen/dining room. My appointment was with Michelle and as she was wrapping up with the previous customer, I was greeted by the other salon stylist. Aside from the one client, it was just me. Right away there was a friendly, low-key, yet very zen vibe and I was getting anxious for my turn to get pampered. Michelle was very professional and offered her suggestions, while adhering to my wish to try and keep the length of my hair as much as possible. She said that she would put toner in my hair. Not really knowing what that meant exactly, I went with it as she is the professional and knows best. To me, the best part of a hair salon experience is the wash and shampoo with scalp massage. It was ok. Nothing outstanding. The color came out really nice and took away the contrast left from a previous balayage. With the haircut, the total time it took was a bit longer than expected...about 90 minutes. Even with my paid Groupon deal, I still paid $40 on top of it, which I assume was for the toner. Though I wish I had been told about the extra charge ahead of time, I was happy with the end result and have received some compliments for it already. I'm a little hesitant to write this review, just because I want to keep Kathy to myself : ) But I will do the right thing and share, lol. I've been seeing her for my hair for about a year and a half and that's a new record for me!! I always found something I disliked about my cut or hair dresser that I rarely went back a third time. That's how much I love her. Kathy has earned my trust so I finally took the plunge and got my eye brows and eye liner tattooed! Chop, chop! Who wants to lose some weight really quickly? I got a weight loss plan just for you, hun! It's called get a hair cut! :) No, really. When you chop off nearly 11 inches of your hair, you'll feel lighter for sure! LOCATION/PARKING: The salon entrance is from Liona Street, despite having a South King Street address. Parking is available in the lot which is accessible from Liona Street on the right hand side. There's 2 lots (but one entrance). Kathy validates for parking. Otherwise, you can park on the street. The salon is on the second floor; just look for the Salon Trendy sign. The area/building doesn't look that inviting but inside is really cute and she decorated it well! The door may be locked, but just knock! STYLIST: Kathy runs her own salon, no other employees. She's SO funny and personable. I had a blast talking with her! Since I can be really talkative at times, it was nice that she kept talking too so that I wasn't only hearing my voice! :P She does have an accent and sometimes I had a hard time understanding. But to give her credit, I'm just really bad with accents. APPOINTMENTS: You MUST make an appointment. She does not take any walk-ins. She is also not open on Mondays. You can call the number listed (947-1122) but she actually prefers text messages since she's so busy with clients. Direct message me if you want her cell phone number. THE HAIRCUT: Okay, if you've read my Premier Salons at Macy's review, you'd know I have unbelievably thick hair...and a lot of it. I guess it's a blessing, but it really does suck when it's time to get a hair cut. If it's not cut right, it looks downright HORRIBLE I tell you. And since I love short hair, but have wavy hair, the proper cut is crucial. I showed her a picture of what I wanted which is much easier than trying to describe it. Even before cutting, Kathy warned me that it might be poofy :/ But I was willing to take that risk! She then washed/conditioned my hair and did an eyebrow wax. She used waxing strips and was really fast since she only had to clean it up instead of reshape. Kathy also does a scalp massage which was super awesome! Then, off to the real deal! Cut done, then blow dry, then flat iron. She gave me some tips to minimize the poofiness. I don't think that's a real word? In the end, I absolutely LOVED my cut. :) Feels so light!! PRICE: I purchased a Groupon online for $45 which included hair cut, deep conditioning, and brow wax. (You can get additional discounts like 20% off from Groupon if you wait for the right time.) Finally went to see my hairstylist at Salon Trendy! I've been with Kathy for a while, since she was working out of Salon Bobby & Guy, then Regis Ala Moana and now at her own place at SALON TRENDY. I always have a blast when I go to see her. She's funny and so easy to talk to. She also does eye brow waxing and tattooing. The price is very reasonable for the tattooing. She does amazing work, so if you want to fill in your eye brows or just get another shape....you should go visit Kathy K. So I've been trying to grow my hair long....it's always the same where I start out strong with this thought and end up going to cut it to my normal Bob style. This year is a successful year of growing it long. She is very supportive of what you want to do. Directions: Basically if you're on S. King, turn right at Kaheka, and right at Liona. The parking is the second driveway on the right. You do need to pay for parking IF the parking attendant is there. There is also street meter parking but depending on what you're planning to get done it could cost more to park on the street. Once you park, the salon is upstairs through a red door. She is a professional and an expertise in this field because she has received training in California and even South Korea.
