Gave him other chances, had color done, was nice but it washed away after first shampoo. Same shampoo didn't do that with other stylists' color jobs. read more

I've have been having my haircut from Junya for the past 2 years and it has been 100% prefect. If I could give more than five stars, I would because each time I go to get my hair done with Junya Sakurai, his work exceeds my expectations. Kind-hearted and gentle-handed, he has always made me feel comfortable, even when I wanted to try a new hairstyle. I first visited him in 2022 to get a bob haircut. My hair fell down to my waist before then. The haircut framed my face nicely and provided for me a bit more volume, since my hair is naturally straight and flat. He made sure the ends were light and airy, so that it would have some fluff. In addition, the bob was so easy to maintain and style. After that, I decided to bleach my bangs and get some layers in. The color and cut were beautifully done: evenly layered, evenly-colored, not missing a single strand. During the heating process, he made sure that the heat was not too high and periodically checked on me and the color. When it was finished, I was so happy. It's not often that I feel pretty, but every time I visit Mr. Junya Sakurai, I leave feeling like a million dollars. My hair too, has maintained its shine and health despite the bleach. He provided me information on the right purple shampoo to maintain the color, and brassiness was never an issue. Recently, I went in for a root touch-up and received a wonderful shampoo session, which left me feeling at peace. Junta is kind. Unfortunately, my hair did not come out anywhere near what we agreed to. I reached out to see if he was willing to fix it, and he was not. Months later and I am still not happy with the results. $300 plus dOllars down the drain. He appears inexperienced with color, but at the rate charged there is no excuse. I asked for a sun kissed balayage similar to a lot of the pics he's posted, so I was surprised that he could not match it. I've always thought that Japanese people were perfectionist so I turned to yelp to help me find a good jstylist for my daughter who wanted a spiral perm. Junya told me he needed to do a consultation to see my daughters hair. We made time to drive all the way to town for a 5 minute consult showing him pictures of what she wanted. He informed me that virgin hair is more difficult to perm so he needed to charge more but he promised he could make her hair just like the picture. Instead of $130 he charged me $150 but quoting that he's giving us a DISCOUNT. I've always thought that discounts were LESS then the base price not more?! Her perm seemed weak from the start. It did NOT look like spirals at all. Just wavey. Then my daughter left for a trip and come back a month later and her hair was completely straight!! I informed Junya that her hair is straight after only one month! He told me that because I didn't let him cut her hair to add layers the perm did not work. He was totally defensive and rude and did not offer to fix her hair. He told me it was my fault for not cutting her hair and he would only have re-permed it if I complained a week after. I would recommend that you go elsewhere if you want a perm. Don't waste your time and hard earned money here. Getting a rude response from Junya is unacceptable! read more

This is not the first time I got Japanese hair straightening but this is definitely the worst one I've ever experienced. My hair came out all fried up like a really bad bleach. There are lots of breakages. My scalp felt burnt and very irritated days after the perm. My front bangs came out especially horrible. It seems like he put on uneven amounts of chemicals on my hair so certain parts came out worst than the others, He claimed that he is very experienced in perming and dealing with hair chemicals. And his price isn't cheap. ($300+) ! But this is totally hands down the worst one I've ever experienced. I have been getting Japanese straightening perm for about 20 yrs , usually once every nine months. I had the procedure done before in hair salons in Japan, USA and other Asian countries. This time is even worst than the early days when perming technology and hair products was less advanced. The outcome is way worst than a few of hole in the wall hair places I've been. He tried to repair the damages with a simple after wash and treatment but it wasn't great help. My hair is beyond repair, I just have to wait for them to grow out. read more

So I woke up with the sudden itch to just cut my hair really short! The last time I went short was when I was in Korea and I cut it just above the shoulders. Granted the only way the stylist and I communicated was through the picture I brought in with me due to the language barrier, it came out pretty good! I think that if you're really going for a particular look that you get an appointment. I showed him pictures and he altered it to fit my face/style. He's really precise and detail-oriented. I went to Honolulu for vacation With the intent on restoring myself both physically and mentally. While it's hard to achieve that on one vacation alone, I took different measures to get back to my best self. So I decided to treat myself with a Japanese hair straightening treatment. My hair is wavy, highly processed with lots of color, dry, and frizzy. So it took really good technique to get it back to looking straight and smooth! Junya just added another regular tonight... He is located on Aube Salon on Makaloa St. The space is immaculate, simple, modern, welcoming. I haven't had a decent shampoo and cut in years and I was soooo embarrassed at what he had to work with and make beautiful. He was polite, and listened intently. Gave me suggestions and I went with it. Extremely pleased with my cut. Layered, light, versatile, not too high maintenance- all what I wanted. I'm excited to do highlights on my next visit. Things that stood out for me: LOVED the automatic full reclining shampoo chair (very relaxing shampoo/ scalp massage as well), INGENIOUS stylist toolbelt - it was really cute...he had a holster like belt where he kept his scissors, clips, and combs contained. The counter was nicely free from the usual stylist accoutrements. CUSTOMER SERVICE- I've never had any stylist see me out and wait a bit before going back inside. Price- reasonable. Talk about a miracle worker!! Junya was able to cut my hair to PERFECTION. I showed him pictures of the hairstyle I wanted AND he took off the heavy weight I had on my head from "extra" hair, yet he still was able to maintain the same length of hair!!
