I had scheduled a cut and color towards the end of the day. Knowing I'd probably be the last customer I was worried the service would be rushed. But Junya was patient and perfected the style I wanted. Such quality work and excellent service! Definitely will schedule again! Thank you! read more

Show him a pic of the cut you want. He'll say he can cut it like that. But he'll cut however the heck he wants, not what's in the pic you showed him. Gave him other chances, had color done, was nice but it washed away after first shampoo. Same shampoo didn't do that with other stylists' color jobs. read more

I've have been having my haircut from Junya for the past 2 years and it has been 100% prefect. The difference with Junya and other hair stylists is when my hair grows out it is still in prefect style. Not everyone has this talent to cut according to your hair growth. Don't be fooled by his teenage looks, I wish I had his genetic luck. Domo Arigato Gozaimatsu Junya! read more

Junya is an artist. I have been going to him since he was down the street, back then he looked 15 now 20 years later he looks 19. He must have found the fountain of youth. I have never been disappointed with his work. He always does an amazing job at balayage and haircuts. Now if he could just point me to the fountain i would like to be 19 again. read more

Second haircut by Junya - ready for summer weather! Definitely took the risk of doing a (short) bob cut and Junya REALLY helped me pull it off. I've been getting lots of compliments and I'm very satisfied as this was a dramatic change! Location/Parking: Salon Kit (808 Sheridan), I usually find street parking/Walmart structure and walk-over. Pricing: Higher than average places but he's a perfectionist and you pay for quite an experience. Please consider booking an appointment with Junya and check out his IG portfolio to see his past work. He's very responsive on social media to answer questions, setting up appointments and estimation for quotes. PS: He's very knowledgable of Japan and fun to converse with! read more

Junya Sakurai Hair Design - Shoulder bob layer - Hair Stylists Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

Junya is so talented & kind! I'm very happy with my new hair style & the service I received. Scheduling was easy. I sent him a message via yelp to request an appt & he replied very quickly with confirmation information. When I went to my appointment, I knew I wanted to try a new hair style that was shoulder length but I wasn't sure on the details. I had long hair for most of my life so I was a bit nervous. Junya was very patient with me & gave awesome suggestions. I asked him for his opinion on bangs style, & he recommended long bangs because it's easier to maintain & not too much going on around my face. Junya is very careful & knowledgeable. I really appreciate his detailed work ethic & he has a nice calming presence. I definitely recommend him. I feel so *fresh* with my new hair style, just in time for the hot summer weather haha. I love my long bangs & haircut :) thanks Junya! read more

This was a place that I discovered from a recommendation on Yelp. When I went in, he was great about cutting my hair, and also even making a recommendation when I asked about some thing to spruce up my haircut. I actually booked another appointment with him for a hair coloring and a haircut. I was very very satisfied with Junya's skill and helpfulness. Definitely more than worth the money spent. read more

I haven't gone to a salon since 2019. I got used to cutting my own hair and saving my money. But I got tired of my look and wanted something different. I showed Junya photos of what I wanted, and he gave me exactly what I was looking for. He was quick and skillful. We had a great conversation throughout the whole session. He also taught me how i could set my hair using my Dyson air wrap. I received many compliments from friends and colleagues. I would definitely recommend him to others. read more

I first came to Junya a few years ago with virgin black hair. He did a natural lighter brown balyage. The products he uses on my hair don't require bleach and don't cause my hair to get dry or damaged over time. Since then, I only go to Junya for hair cuts and color. My most recent visit a few days ago was my first time getting a haircut during Covid. They take temperatures upon entrance, keep distance between clients and require masks at all times. Junya is very passionate about his craft, and he is a perfectionist. I trust him and never have to worry. He is responsive over text, so it's easy to schedule an appointment. Pricing is clearly listed on his website and is very reasonable for his skill level and service. I've recommended Junya to several of my friends, and they all love him too! read more

I had my haircut by Junya yesterday. It was the best haircut I've ever had, and Junya truly is incredible!! I've never loved my hair so much!! I wanted bangs as well but I wasn't sure if it would look good because I don't have the largest forehead. However, he cut them so beautiful and they frame my face perfectly! Amazing! I'll only get my haircut by Junya from now on :). He is truly a perfectionist and master (and just the nicest guy as well)! Thank you Junya!! read more

I had a perfect hair experience. Junya nailed my wolf cut and handled it with care and precision. I'll definitely visit his salon again. Thanks Junya! read more

If I could give more than five stars, I would because each time I go to get my hair done with Junya Sakurai, his work exceeds my expectations. Kind-hearted and gentle-handed, he has always made me feel comfortable, even when I wanted to try a new hairstyle. I first visited him in 2022 to get a bob haircut. My hair fell down to my waist before then. The haircut framed my face nicely and provided for me a bit more volume, since my hair is naturally straight and flat. He made sure the ends were light and airy, so that it would have some fluff. In addition, the bob was so easy to maintain and style. After that, I decided to bleach my bangs and get some layers in. The color and cut were beautifully done: evenly layered, evenly-colored, not missing a single strand. During the heating process, he made sure that the heat was not too high and periodically checked on me and the color. When it was finished, I was so happy. It's not often that I feel pretty, but every time I visit Mr. Junya Sakurai, I leave feeling like a million dollars. My hair too, has maintained its shine and health despite the bleach. He provided me information on the right purple shampoo to maintain the color, and brassiness was never an issue. Recently, I went in for a root touch-up and received a wonderful shampoo session, which left me feeling at peace. It is very clear, that Mr. Junya Sakurai cares about his work and his clients' wellbeing. I will be coming back in a few for another touch-up! Thank you so much Mr. Sakurai! You are a wonderful artist! read more

When it comes to my Hair I'm a crazy picky gal the kind of a gal that will make them re-do it if it doesn't come out in a way I ordered, but this man get's it, understands and knows what he's doing.I can trust him with my hair cause I can see that he is picky and perfectionist as well! Love his personality, always enjoy talking to him every time I go :) all of my friends that I recommended are now all repeater of him!

Junta is kind. Unfortunately, my hair did not come out anywhere near what we agreed to. I reached out to see if he was willing to fix it, and he was not. Months later and I am still not happy with the results. $300 plus dOllars down the drain. He appears inexperienced with color, but at the rate charged there is no excuse. I asked for a sun kissed balayage similar to a lot of the pics he's posted, so I was surprised that he could not match it. Makes me question whether he did any oof the coloring in the photos. read more

I've always thought that Japanese people were perfectionist so I turned to yelp to help me find a good jstylist for my daughter who wanted a spiral perm. Junya told me he needed to do a consultation to see my daughters hair. We made time to drive all the way to town for a 5 minute consult showing him pictures of what she wanted. He informed me that virgin hair is more difficult to perm so he needed to charge more but he promised he could make her hair just like the picture. Instead of $130 he charged me $150 but quoting that he's giving us a DISCOUNT. I've always thought that discounts were LESS then the base price not more?! Her perm seemed weak from the start. It did NOT look like spirals at all. Just wavey. Then my daughter left for a trip and come back a month later and her hair was completely straight!! I informed Junya that her hair is straight after only one month! He told me that because I didn't let him cut her hair to add layers the perm did not work. He was totally defensive and rude and did not offer to fix her hair. He told me it was my fault for not cutting her hair and he would only have re-permed it if I complained a week after. I would recommend that you go elsewhere if you want a perm. Don't waste your time and hard earned money here. Getting a rude response from Junya is unacceptable! read more

This is not the first time I got Japanese hair straightening but this is definitely the worst one I've ever experienced. My hair came out all fried up like a really bad bleach. There are lots of breakages. My scalp felt burnt and very irritated days after the perm. My front bangs came out especially horrible. It seems like he put on uneven amounts of chemicals on my hair so certain parts came out worst than the others, He claimed that he is very experienced in perming and dealing with hair chemicals. And his price isn't cheap. ($300+) ! But this is totally hands down the worst one I've ever experienced. I have been getting Japanese straightening perm for about 20 yrs , usually once every nine months. I had the procedure done before in hair salons in Japan, USA and other Asian countries. This time is even worst than the early days when perming technology and hair products was less advanced. The outcome is way worst than a few of hole in the wall hair places I've been. He tried to repair the damages with a simple after wash and treatment but it wasn't great help. My hair is beyond repair, I just have to wait for them to grow out. read more

best haircut ive ever had. Junya did an amazing job and was so friendly and thoughtful.

Super nice salon right on Makaloa next to kicks. Validated parking in the back. Lay flat shampoo station and best shampoo ever. Also really meticulous cut which turned out great. Highly recommend for men's cut! read more

I booked with Junya hoping he could salvage a short haircut disaster I had gotten from another salon. I also opted for the Japanese straightening treatment after consulting him on results for my hair type. He got to work and before I knew it he had completely transformed my hair into exactly the style I was hoping for, all without chopping too much off. He is so meticulous and I enjoyed watching him work on my hair. He didn't over complicate the styling at all, which I appreciated because I had explained to him I wanted low maintenance hair. The best part? I achieved the same results at home after the fact, just like he had promised. Thank you Junya! I'm a loyal customer now. read more

If you want an awesome Japanese haircut, go to Junya Sakurai! I've been looking for a nice Japanese hair stylist in the bay area, CA but I couldn't find the one. On my Hawaii vacation, I found Junya on yelp so I gave him a shot. And he was excellent! Unfortunately I don't know when I can go to Hawaii next but I do recommend him to everyone. Honestly I was nervous about cutting my hair. I had never been to Junya before but saw he had really great reviews and I liked his pictures of previous clients. I had really long hair prior and finally decided it was time for a change and go short. I had showed him a picture of something I had in mind for a style and he ended up coloring and cutting my hair and it turned out AMAZING! I couldn't have been happier. Now I'm scared to go to anyone else! He is awesome! Give him a try if your looking for someone new! read more

So I woke up with the sudden itch to just cut my hair really short! The last time I went short was when I was in Korea and I cut it just above the shoulders. Granted the only way the stylist and I communicated was through the picture I brought in with me due to the language barrier, it came out pretty good! Today I started looking everywhere I could to see if I could just walk in and get it done, but alas I noticed that every place was by appointment. As I looked I noticed that there was a weeks worth of wait time and as I was beginning to lose hope I found Junya! He was so quick to respond and I had an appointment on the same day! I got there and he was so nice and friendly. I was a bit scared because of how short it was, it was basically a bob (the shortest I have ever gone haha) but the more he styled the more I fell in love with my new do! Thank you so much Junya I love my hair!! read more

Thank you Junya for my short haircut. I truly love it. I'm so happy to have found you on Yelp. You are the best!!!

Definitely recommend! I got a haircut from another salon and was super disappointed, so I booked an appointment and now I am super elated with how it turned out. I think that if you're really going for a particular look that you get an appointment. I showed him pictures and he altered it to fit my face/style. He's really precise and detail-oriented. My hair didn't perm as much as I'd liked it to, but I think maybe it was because it was my first time perming, plus I was gonna for a loose wave perm so it was a little risky to wait too long. I'm super happy and will be coming back! read more

I went to Honolulu for vacation With the intent on restoring myself both physically and mentally. While it's hard to achieve that on one vacation alone, I took different measures to get back to my best self. So I decided to treat myself with a Japanese hair straightening treatment. My hair is wavy, highly processed with lots of color, dry, and frizzy. So it took really good technique to get it back to looking straight and smooth! I came back to California feeling a little more confident with my new hair do! It does not come cheap but I'm of the mind when it comes to these services that require technique and an eye for perfection, you get what you pay for! read more

Junya just added another regular tonight... He is located on Aube Salon on Makaloa St. The space is immaculate, simple, modern, welcoming. I haven't had a decent shampoo and cut in years and I was soooo embarrassed at what he had to work with and make beautiful. He was polite, and listened intently. Gave me suggestions and I went with it. Extremely pleased with my cut. Layered, light, versatile, not too high maintenance- all what I wanted. I'm excited to do highlights on my next visit. Things that stood out for me: LOVED the automatic full reclining shampoo chair (very relaxing shampoo/ scalp massage as well), INGENIOUS stylist toolbelt - it was really cute...he had a holster like belt where he kept his scissors, clips, and combs contained. The counter was nicely free from the usual stylist accoutrements. CUSTOMER SERVICE- I've never had any stylist see me out and wait a bit before going back inside. Price- reasonable. What more could you want? read more

Talk about a miracle worker!! Junya was able to cut my hair to PERFECTION. I showed him pictures of the hairstyle I wanted AND he took off the heavy weight I had on my head from "extra" hair, yet he still was able to maintain the same length of hair!! Like I couldn't even believe he did it as spot on as I was hoping!! I would highly recommend him. I'm always paranoid of how my hair would turn out when getting a hair cut... but I think I found my new salon!! :) also he is very friendly!! Japanese people are pretty awesome. Thank you so much Junya!! I haven't been this happy about my haircut for a while now haha. read more
