I always struggled with finding a hairstylist who will be able to cut curly hair. I was nervous and skeptical going in, but I knew the moment I walked in she was a pro. The way she would talk about my pattern and my layers already told me that she knew what she was doing. First, she dry cut some of my curls. Then she washed, massaged, and straightened my hair, then cut some more of it while It was straightened to make sure it had an even finish both ways. she also gave amazing advice on how to keep my hair healthy. All of that was included in a 120 price which is a price you cannot find anywhere else. My hair turned out amazing straightened, and I know once I turn it back to curly it will look even better! Monique has done a wonderful job with my hair. She is the 5th stylist I've seen for a short cut that flatters my wavy frizzy med-thick hair, and is the 1st stylist I've been truly happy with! She uses a combination of wet and dry cuts. For the dry cuts she finds each wave clump and cuts at a flattering spot. Because of this, my waves lie nicely now without odd pieces sticking out. (I have a combination of s-waves and spirals.) I believe she specializes in curly hair.  It's unique to find someone who can create a modern and flattering hairstyle with frizzy, big, wavy hair. It has to be a combination of her styling abilities and the products she uses. Both visits to her have left me extremely happy and my last visit was even better than the first! She blow dried and flat ironed relatively quickly (and I have a lot of hair!) and left my hair straighter and softer and bouncier than I have ever felt it!! The shop itself is great! Don't know why I waited so long to review someone so important! I mean hair and eyebrows can make or break you, right? I started going to Monique when she worked at J Salon. The vibe there was just not my cup o' tea. Anyway, I followed Monique over to Heaven on Earth and really love her new space. It's like her own little salon since she has a private space and we get to gab and talk about whatever the whole time she's working her magic on my hair. So down to biniss....Ms. Monique KNOWS hair. You can tell her exactly what you want and that's exactly what you'll get. BUUUUUUT, my advice is to just give her some general parameters, like you want to keep the length or you want bangs now, and just let her do her thing. I swear I prance out of the salon feeling like Miss Universe after Monique does my hair. She's styled it with my natural curl, straight, loose curls...every look is always perfect. So this isn't really a complaint, but more of a testament to her ridiculous skills. I have been trying to grow my bangs out for a while, but I'll usually have her trim them up so the ends look fresh. I swear, just a trim from her makes me want to keep them cause she always makes them look so cute, but it's like Olivia from Jerseylicious said, "you just don't marry bangs." Also, for me, the ultimate test is how long a cut lasts. I know it's gross but sometimes I won't cut my hair for MONTHS and my cut from Monique still looks good. Her skills are just beyond, beyond...if that makes sense. To all you chickadees with curly hair, you MUST let Monique work on your hair. It's so hard to find someone who can cut curly hair because stylists in Hawaii seem to be so used to cutting straight, thick, Asian hair. I can't tell you how many FOBy over-layered fashion mullets I've had the displeasure of rocking becauase other stylist just don't understand curly hair. Monique can look at you and know what will work for your face shape, hair type, etc, BUT she also listens to what you want and will flat out tell you if something is a no-go. I completely trust her with my hair, which is a pretty big deal. You also get tons beauty advice from her while she's doing your hair...can't tell you how many great tips, tricks, and recommendations I've received from her. One thing I've also noticed about her is that she is a perfectionist. She will not rush on my hair and takes the time to double and triple check everything to make sure I leave with perfect hair. This is probably the only time I would urge someone to cheat....seriously, you must cheat on your regular stylist and let Monique work her magic on you - you won't be disappointed. Got scammed and warning others to be careful with her! I came to Monique for a relaxer. I'm half African American so I wanted to find someone that was familiar with ethnic hair. There are a lot of good reviews on here about her knowing black hair so I made an appointment. She relaxed my hair and charged me $130. I gave her a $30 tip. So totalled $160. The price was fine with me because I thought she did a good job. She suggested I come in again in a couple months to do my roots. I asked her how much the next visit would cost. She said it's usually $130 but the next one would be on her. Again I confirmed that the next visit would be free and she said yes. Made sense since I would have been a recurring client for touch ups and such. Fast forward to my second appointment when I'm in her salon getting ready to get my hair done and she tries to tell me not only did she not say that this visit was going to be free, but also that for my first visit she accidentally charged me $130 when she was supposed to charge me $165. So for this visit she was going to charge me $165 to make up for the first visit........ First off I feel like her accident of charging me less the first time is on her. And that I shouldn't have to pay the difference the next visit because she feels like it. Secondly when I told her that she said this visit would be free, she tried to say she meant that she would pull the relaxer from my roots through my hair as she rinsed it for free..... 1. That's not what she initially said because I made double sure and 2. Isn't that what they do already and is not considered an extra charge??? Bottom line I went in expecting to only give her a tip and came out paying $165 plus tax. I gave this 2 stars just because I do think she did an okay job with my hair but I will not be returning because she low-key scammed me. read more

I decided to give it a try because I usually like dramatic and defined styles. Always being super professional, she'll teach you about simple things like using the wrong products can coat your hair instead of give it a good cleaning to hair styling techniques like hair-wrapping while using a blow-dryer. Everytime I go to her, I'm ALWAYS satified She knows exactly how to style hair while also conforming it to the face by slimming it. I thought I wrote a review about Monique previously, but I realized that I didn't. Shame on me. Hands down, Monique is THE BEST. I hope she never goes away because I don't know what my hair would do without her. Previously, I absolutely HATED getting my hair cut. I have very unruly, frizzy, thick, ridiculous hair and whenever I would get a haircut, I would be so nervous on how it would turn out, which is why I would get my hair trimmed once a year.. if that. I would try to avoid the situation as much as I could. That is until I met Monique. My mom and I have the same type of hair and she found Monique via Yelp and decided that we should both go in together and try her out. As apprehensive as I initially was, I agreed and couldn't be more happier with my decision. We went in and each brought pictures of hair styles that we liked and Monique was able to let us know what would and wouldn't work for us. We trusted her opinions and told her to do whatever she thought would work best for our face shape, hair texture, etc. Throughout the whole process, she not only worked her magic, but also educated us step by step and let us know what she was doing along the way and why she was doing it. In the end, I couldn't be more happier with a haircut and now look forward to every time I see her again. After seeing Monique a few times, I finally convinced my boyfriend that he needed to see her as well. My boyfriend suffers from thinning hair, mostly due to genetics and partially due to what his job entails (wearing a hard hat, stress, etc). He was on his last leg of hope and on the verge of just shaving his head, but before that I told him that he had to see Monique to at least give it one more try. THANK GOD HE AGREED. Again, Monique worked her magic and educated him on what was going on and what he could do to prevent future hair loss and also how to style his hair to make it less noticeable. I cannot thank Monique enough for giving him his confidence back. This woman is AMAZING. I have very thick, curly hair (I'm half black and half white so you can imagine) and have been getting all kinds of different hair Smoothing Treatments for YEARS. Brazilian Blowouts, Keratin Smoothing Treatments, you name it. It's the only way I can manage my own hair. I don't know what kind of magic Monique has in her fingertips but this was hands down the best Smoothing Treatment I have ever received by anyone!! Not only did my hair turn out to look and feel AMAZING afterwards, but Monique also gave me SO MUCH knowledge about how to properly take care of my hair (things no one has ever told me!) and make it grow!! (Bonus points: she already knows all of the military female hair regulations! Ha!) Not only is she fantastic at what she does but she is truly a kind and loving soul. She was so easy to talk to and I almost fell asleep in her chair at points because I was so comfortable!! Is she a hair stylist or a therapist??? Sorry for my late review! But I wanted to see how my hair grew out within after a month I cut it... Normally my mom would step in and dictate my life but I'm a young lady now! I make my own decisions!!! :D and I made a damn good one here! It's still amazing after that fresh cut! My hair length was to my butt and I am 5'5. I guess you can call it hula hair. I'm not very 'girly' but not a tomboy- not high maintenance I should say. Which made Monique's cut and style even more amazing because I could make my hair look like I styled it even though I didn't try to! Her pricing is worth it and honestly not that expensive. She is one on one with you, shampoos and conditions, and styles all in that one price. - I think $85.. So so so reasonable. And even if she raises the price, I would still go to her.
