My hair being SO long and it needed a complete re-do, it cost me a pretty penny but for my once in a great while treat it was a good investment! Jessica took great care of me both times and she was honest and accurate on her estimate on time and cost. The salon has a bunch of Japanese stylists and clients but not all. I'm glad to have met Jessica here. I think stylists have to be sensitive to the needs and wants if their client and accommodate if the want to talk or just enjoy the quiet... Don't waste your time or money. I went to Amy for a "full" head of highlights, spent over 4 hours in the salon, spent $413 for the service, tipped her $75, and came out looking BARELY any different (see comparison photos below). As soon as I got home and realized what my hair looked like, I asked Amy if she would re-tone my hair and add a few more foils since it didn't look brighter or like my inspiration picture. I texted back and forth with her for FOUR DAYS basically begging for her to fix it and she just kept telling me to try and wash it a few times as the darker toner may come out. (In my opinion, I should never have to do that to get the results I want and should leave the salon looking the way I asked.) Long story short, she said she could re-tone it but would charge me MORE to get a few more foils on top of the $488 I already spent with her. Jody did a great precision haircut with attention to detail and and fantastic blowout. This was my first haircut in 2 years of pandemic. We made early morning appointment a couple weeks in advance - the place books up quickly. My daughter got her haircut as well. Jody spent an hour perfecting my cut and dry. There are about 10 stylist working at the salon. My cut was $99 with included the blow out (but not a wash). They take credit cards. Parking is a bear. There is a parking garage and the salon validated our parking so there was no fee. The shop is located in downtown Honolulu. We went in Saturday, so there was light traffic. I recommend. read more

Covid taught us many things after everything shut down. How to make dalgona coffee, make bread, and wax our own eye brows, just to name a few...I "learned" how to cut my hair. No one ever said my hair looked funny kine so I assume it looked okay..but after awhile it was looking the same. And I was bored of it! I've seen too many Tiktoks where bangs go ugly really fast...I wasn't about to chance it! I got my hair done Bowie and I absolutely love it! I told him what I wanted and he took care and did exactly what I wanted! The Salon is located right on Cooke St and in the middle of the shops. Parking is available in the building and can be accessed on Kawaihao St. There is a bunch of parking available! After/before you do your hair, you can also grab a bite to eat next door. Jessica was great! I appreciated that before and at the beginning of my appointment, she asked for pictures of my current & ideal hair, and asked lots of questions to make sure she really understood what I wanted. My hair can be difficult to work with and I felt like she really listened to some challenges I've had with other approaches in the past. She was also honest about what was possible in our first session. I came for a color correction, having gotten foil highlights a few months ago that were lighter and warmer than I wanted. Jessica helped me get back to something closer to my natural color with subtle dimension, using multiple shades of dye and toner to get it just right. I'm in love with the result! Also very pleased with the trim, I asked to maintain length while refreshing my layers and it looks great. Jessica was very lovely and easy to talk to, yet also very comfortable to sit in silence with when that felt right. It's always scary coming to a new hairstylist, but she made me feel listened to and comfortable which is so important. Ruined, over-bleached fried hair by JESSICA DO NOT get your hair done by Jessica. She ruined my hair. She over bleached it and fried my hair. She stated that my hair was "acceptable," didn't offer any solutions, and stopped responding to text messages. The owner refused to talk to me as well. Overall very unprofessional. Save your hair, your money, your time, and happiness and do not get your hair done here. Trust me there are so many better and reputable salons and stylists on island who do a better job and will own up and take accountability if mistakes are made. Her photos are a sham. She fooled me into thinking my hair was fine because she did a salon style blow out. Two days later when it was wash day, I could barely brush my hair due to the damage and had to schedule a hair cut appointment to cut off the mess she made. There is still a lot of damage left and will have to get another haircut in a few months. It took me two years to grow my hair out so I am completely devastated. So thankful that I was able to schedule an appointment at Salon Capello with just a one day notice! I know it's not typical, but I'm so glad they had an opening for me. I reached out to Jessica through Yelp yesterday, hoping they could take me in for a last-minute haircut today. She responded fairly quickly and was so helpful in answering my questions. She referred me to one of her stylists and scheduled my appointment from there. Due to traffic, I ended up arriving 10 minutes late, and worried my haircut would end up being rushed (I was the last customer for the day, with most of the salon already cleaned up). To my surprise, my stylist, Sanae, was so kind and patient! She took the time to understand the look I wanted and let me know how to adjust it to better suit my features. I never felt rushed or uncomfortable. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole process from the initial wash to blow drying/styling. My friend said she's been going here for a while so I looked it up on yelp and IG and the hairstyles that I gravitated towards were all done by Jessica, so that's who I booked with. I booked 2 days prior to my appointment, which was great. I hate those salons you have to book 2 months ahead, I barely know my schedule for the next week, let alone 2 months, so this was great. Many people have colored my hair but I've only had one person CUT my hair over the last 12+ years so I was apprehensive about sitting in a new stylist chair but the minute I sat down I just knew I was in good hands. I like how she listened to what I thought I wanted/didn't want, but then suggested what she knew was best for my face shape/age/lifestyle. Jessica did both a wet and dry cut which was awesome, but the kicker is how she styled my hair. My hair is naturally coarse and frizzy and even long time hairdressers leave my hair slightly frizzy but Jessica was able to tame the mane, and she let me try a hair tool I could buy from Target (which I immediately bought online while still there) so I can continue to get that "fresh out of the salon" look. I decided to help myself and get pampered to a good haircut and some new color to my head. In comes some advice from my daughter who did some research and found Jessica at Salon Capello. I had no idea what I wanted except the colors I wanted and the style I decided. Of course all coming from the internet, I wasn't on the right track. I thought this girl had highlights, however she had a balayage. Didn't know what that was but Jessica kindly told me the procedure and outcome of both. Luckily, I cut my hair short so the balayage wouldn't be too much more. I realized by her haircut how precise and detail oriented Jessica was going to be. I loved it!! The massage on my head during the conditioner felt incredible and because she cut my hair, bleached out my at home hair color, and toner addition, I got to enjoy this 3 times!! Jessica was so good at explaining and asking me what my color preference was especially since the picture I showed her was definitely obscured by the fact that her lighting was off. It's pretty much a tradition where I have my hair cut just before Chinese New Year so I went to Salon Capello earlier today for my appointment w/ Jody Chan (same last name but NOT related). He spent about an hour cutting my hair and because I've been going to him for many, many years now, if I don't make any requests Jody just cuts away. Jody himself is also a food guru so many times we talk about new places or where there are good things to buy. He also hails from Hong Kong (just like both of my parents) so not only does he knows good Chinese food, he's married to Sanae (originally from Chiba, Japan), who also works at Salon Capello, he's also very knowledgeable in Japanese food. The next thing I know my hour is pretty much up and I look in the mirror with great satisfaction to my haircut. There are times when I "deviate" from the normal haircut and Jody listens carefully to what I would like in accomplishing my request(s). He offers FULL parking validation so that is a plus. I just found out Salon Capello is just a few doors down from Ah-Lang Restaurant, where I have read some very interesting reviews. Perhaps I shall give that place a try now I know where exactly it is. Listen ladies, Jessica is a hair cutting wizard genius! I say hair cutting because I haven't seen her for color (yet), but boy can she cut hair. I've been getting my hair done for a long time now never seeming to be able to find someone who can give me what I want. I was looking for a new stylist who was brilliant at color and specialized in creating vibrant, yet natural looks. I found Amy K at Salon Capello and am so grateful for her talents! I am a natural dirty blonde but became a brassy red/blonde from too many treatments with other stylists. I was in dire need of color correction for both my base color and highlights. I was completely shocked at the results from Amy! My hair was as close to its natural color as it could be with the most gorgeous, soft, blonde highlights. We were both disappointed we didn't take before and after photos after Amy spun her magic - my jaw hit the floor! Amy was incredibly patient with me since I was gun-shy from so many poor experiences. I've been going to Jessica at Salon Capello after being referred to her by a coworker for about 1.5-2 years now. I was still dying my hair red when I initially started (which she knocked out of the park). However, due to a more active lifestyle in the pool and in the sun I decided I needed something easier to maintain for the time being. I most recently decided to go back to my natural color with some blonde highlights via balayage technique to warm my hair up. She seriously rocked it. It's beautiful and so seamless. She's able to tell you what you can reasonably expect by the end of the session and how it'll hold up/settle in over time. First time here, I waited for a long time to find a place for my haircut. So i plan to try out this place because it was 5 star! I called and i asked one of the worker who she would go to for long layer and she recommended one of the owner. I thought with the owner cutting my hair wouldn't be a problem and I didn't had to worry because I was in the hand of an experience professional. My hair was up to my hip and i asked him to cut to my chest but it was short above my underarm. After my haircut my lips was shaking because my experience was so.... bad..... i didn't expect for him to not know how to measure and calculate the length I showed him. Jessica is the absolute best. I have been going to her at least 10 years. I followed her from her previous salon to Salon Capello. She initially won me over when I first saw her for a hair cut. I used to wear my hair very long and I told her I only wanted 1 inch cut off. Usually other stylists would interpret this as 2-3 inches, but not Jessica. She literally cut off 1 inch. After that I was sold. I clung to her tightly for all my hair needs and sang (sing) her praises to everyone. When I wanted to lighten my hair and sent her 2 different pictures, she figured out what I wanted. She always looks out for my best interests and would never give me a cut or color that would not look good on me. Jessica is always there for me when I have a question. I live in California now and would still go to her when I'd visit home, but because of the pandemic, I had not been back in awhile and I was desperate. I went to a salon locally and they effed up my coloring. I sent pics to Jess to make sure what I seeing was in fact not a good job and she was there for me. She confirmed that it needed fixing and encouraged me to reach out to that salon to get it fixed, because that's what she would do if someone were unhappy. She also continues to further her knowledge and skill level by taking classes outside of working at the salon. I am always comfortable in Jess' chair and she makes sure I am. I had my appointment with Sanae and she did a wonderful job! I have straight hair (and I mean it will not curl, ever) and it was really long so I was ready for a change. I was looking to get layers but since I don't go to salons regularly and only get my hair cut maybe twice a year, I didn't quite know how to get the best look for my hair type. Sanae was very patient with me and talked me through what would be best for my style. She knew I wanted to keep some length to my hair so was very careful to ask first if she could cut it shorter for certain layers before just chopping it all off. The entire appointment lasted about an hour and a half and I have gotten so many great compliments on my new hair cut! Salon Capello offers stylists that range from $65-$85. I was able to easily make my appointment through Yelp by messaging the owner, Jessica, directly. The salon is conveniently located in Kakaako in the Imperial Plaza. I'm terrible and always make last minute appointments.. but Bowie at Salon Capello let me make a same day last minute appointment! My hair was orange from the sun+box dye+damaged.. I didn't want to cut the length at all but wanted it super layered and thinned out. I didn't want to damage my hair with bleach, so he toned it and told me it would look dark at first but lighten up with time: That's fine because I like the color it is now and I'll like it when it lightens too. Also can I say that this is one of the best hair cuts I've ever had?! I felt so bad because I think they close around 7, but he took the time to curl my hair perfectly and even took the time to give me hair styling tips on how to curl hair and explained the products he was using. I felt bad because my phone was almost dead and I forgot my portable charger.. but Bowie had a charger he let me use. Great customer service! Before coming here, I called to inquire about the pricing. I don't mind paying for a good quality color and cut, but I just can't spend $500 for a cut and color. I would rather just spend that on some good food. I couldn't find the prices on yelp so I called to inquire. He told me on the phone it would be $180 for cut and color (even when I told him I have hair that goes down to my elbows) and that's exactly what he charged me. That is so reasonable for the amount of time and care he put into my hair, plus the cut he did will last me for a while. First communication was great. Jessica got back to me quick and was able to book a day later that same week. Here's what she told me about parking, opening to parking entrance around the back of the building on the corner of Kawaiahao and Cooke. Take ticket, they also give you a piece of paper. Park is stalls marked "customer" (there are plenty), put paper on your dash. Salon validates the ticket. My girlfriend and I also ate lunch in that same building after and the restaurant validates another 2hrs! Appointment was so good! Spent the first 10 minutes with her examining hair and asking so many good questions. I told her I didn't know about some of her questions because no one has ever bothered to ask me before! Very thorough. She definitely wanted to make sure that she heard everything and expectations on both sides would be met. She also pointed out that my pictures were very different and why I needed to decide on which one I wanted. I appreciated that. Execution was fabulous. She's gentle (I had a new cartilage piercing which was tender and I never felt it) but also very knowledgeable. You can tell that she's confident and knew what she was doing. The color and cut was perfect... with her constantly asking me questions to make minor adjustments (e.g. "do you like the highlights to blend into the roots or more contrast? do you like to wear it in a ponytail sometimes? do you like it thinned out on the ends? Do you want the toning to be as cool or more warm?"). She also wants the color/cut to last as long as possible without too much processing and special handling needed inbetween. She has recorded tutorials on IGTV as a free resource. Also a week later, my hair doesn't feel fried like it tends to do after processing from other places. As much as I like the hair (which is a lot), I really enjoyed the conversation too. She's super intelligent with fabulous "bedside manner". Just puts you at ease like when you know you've made a friend. She can talk about so many topics without ever making it awkward. She's humble about herself but also is constantly paying with her own money to take classes in hair (and other interests) to continue to grow and get better. It's one of those people that you like so much that you start thinking of guys that you know to set her up with!! LOL! Hair result is important but the whole experience from booking to parking to communication and personality, etc all goes into loving it and wanting to come back. Will definitely book again! I get my hair done by Jessica. So many good things to say. I have been trying to go from warmer to cooler tones but every time, I always end up with warmer tone till I found Jessica. She was honest from my first visit. She took her time to explain to me the process to getting to cooler tone and that I would need a color correction. I started off with getting a haircut and toner on my first visit before proceeding to a color correction. My second visit we finally did a color correction and I was absolutely satisfied with the result and even thereafter! She got me to a cooler and ashy tone which eventually fades to a golden blonde. What I have come to learn about getting my hair cut is that there are 3 different styles. There is supercuts and fantastic sams - cheapest, looks good right after the cut, within 6 weeks, looks like crap - got to go back. So cheap is not necessarily cheap. Next is middle range salons - about $30 cuts. Looks OK right after the cut, but grows out nicely. You don't have to go back religiously at 6 weeks. You can wait a while longer. Then there is the real stylist who knows how to make a cut look good now, all the way through 6 months (or longer as I often do!) The last one is Jody. May not be the cheap or cheapest, but easily worth the money. I have been going to Jody for about 7 years now. I started when I saw the beautiful cuts Jody was giving my friends with all different hair textures from thick and wavy Hawaiian-Chinese hair, to thinner curly Japanese Caucasian hair to thin natural blond hair. Just stunning cuts! ALL OF THEM. I thought my hair is easier to cut and manage then theirs - it's thick, mostly straight Okinawan hair, so I thought he would have an easy time with my hair. And he does. He seems to have so much experience with my type of hair, but obviously he just knows what he is doing because he can do the natural blond hair just as beautifully. I spend a long time in his chair when I finally go (any where from 3 -9 months) and I hate going because I spend a long time in his chair. But that's how long I can wear his cuts, and like others said, still get compliments on it. Love love love Jessica, she is beautiful inside and out. And not to mention she's an awesome hair stylist! I've been to many different salons, and some really talented stylists, but Jessica is someone I see myself becoming a regular with. Not only does she take the time to get your hair to perfection, but she focuses on you and just you..and that is something that is important to me. Yes, there are those really awesome stylists that see several clients at once, but I love not feeling like cattle and actually having that one on one time. Not only does she actually listen to what you want, but she explains everything to you and gives you her opinion on the many different options you have. And she's very personable as well, someone you can actually hold a conversation with and not have those awkward moments of silence while getting your hair did lol. Thanks again Jess! It took me forever to find the courage to cut my very long hair. I finally came across this salon and read reviews, checked out all the pictures and just went for it. I booked an appointment through yelp and Jessica responded within the next hour. OMG I'm so glad I went with her. The salon was nice, plenty parking, and it seemed like everyone that walked out of that place was happy with their new hair-dos. I definitely will be going back for my next cut! read more

Bowie is my hair stylist. He does an outstanding job. Previously to seeing Bowie, I used to travel from barber to barber with only dreams of a nice haircut. Sometimes I talk to Bowie quite a bit; other times I am a statue. Either way, I'm always comfortable around him. I'm saying this because there have been many other times when I couldn't have said the same thing. He cuts Asian hairstyles well. At first, I did not know the type of style that I wanted to don. He handed me a (Japanese?) magazine with a bunch of hairstyles depicted. It was all too overwhelming, because I wasn't born with the talent to analyze the aesthetic beauty of 500 hairstyles in a span of 30 seconds. That, and the magazine was several years old, so I just gave him full reign over my hair. When I first visited Bowie a few years ago, I was always unhappy with my hair. My first cut from him was a moment of happiness. Imagine having to eating foot fungus for the entirety of your life. Now imagine having your first slice of steak. Om nom nom nom nicehair nom nom. The price was ~$45 (excluding tip)--which was reasonable--in exchange for the pleasure of well-coiffured appearance. read more

Phenomenally talented staff with incredible customer service. I know I left a previous review, but I had some tough hair to deal with most recently -- Jessica took all the time necessary to figure out how best to cut, straight perm, and style it. She and the rest of the crew who helped out (it's like a family) are a blessing.
