Deb is hands down the best hair stylist I've ever had. She's not only skilled, she's very fun, hard-working and is an overall good-hearted person. read more

Great people there and they gave me an amazing haircut I would highly recommend. The vibes were all good and they gave me styling tips

The 5 stars is strictly for Analee, who does my eye brow threading. She has been my long time go to person for the past 4 years now. We originally met at Beyond Bare Waxing Salon. And I refuse to go to anyone but her. So of course once she moved... like a faithful puppy dog I followed. Located on kapiolani st. Above pho one restaurant in Avance' Salon she has her own cute little studio set up. Parking can seem a bit cramped on busy days, but there are assigned stalls for the salon on the 3rd floor. So be sure to park in ONLY stalls marked "Avance salon". Once you get inside the salon there is a waiting area. It has very cozy chairs and magazines to keep you occupied. The salon itself is nice but seems a bit small. It obviously must be good since it's always busy. Analee is honestly the sweetest and most professional eye brow threader I have. Ever since I met her Analee has always given me top customer service and I great overall experience every time. There is NEVER a day where I go to her leaving with a bad experience. She is very easy to talk to and it makes our time together fly by. Her cheerful attitude always shows, even if she herself is stressed it never affects her work and I love how honest she is. I remember the first time I went to her with really bad eye brows she was able to magically fix it and ever since I never really have to explain to her how I want it. Now she not only does my eye brows but my bfs one as well. She's really good at doing my bfs eyebrows without making him look girly or feel weird about it. In fact, even though he's in major denial about it... I know he thinks he looks way better with them done... he even reminds me to make an appointment now. So if your looking for an eye brow person.... ask for Analee! :) You won't regret it! read more

Style is important, and Avance Salon gets it right. A group of individual stylists that are skilled and can offer great advice for stylish hair. My personal stylist is Sharon Namahoe and my family has been going to her for years now and she's such an awesome person. She is very skilled in long and short hair. She talks up a good story and really gets to know you while she's cutting your hair. But whether you are getting styled by Sharon or another stylist, the atmosphere is very friendly and fun. I think they also have someone that does nails in the salon but i cannot comment on her skills simply because i've never had my nails done. :) Anyways if you are looking for new stylist, and something other than fantastic sams or supercuts, give Avance a try. I guarantee you won't be disappointed. :) read more

It's been almost exactly 4 months since I saw Cheryl and it was time to finish cutting off the dead ends that remained after my last battle with bleach. I guess I should have been more fair and taken a better before picture (see photos here: http://cosmeticmonster.com/2011/08/18/avance-salon/ ) - but I was in a rush. The cut was still solid - but my hair was such a mess from MY home color jobs that without some effort it was just a fuzzy mess. Plus it was just time to get it done!! As usual, Cheryl was super cool and explained what she was doing and why. I pretty much gave her free range - with just a photo to give her an idea of the over all feel. Long story short, she worked at my hair until we were both happy AND got the approval of my husband who was waiting for me. Patiently. Flat out, I normally hate getting my hair cut. Hate it. But Cheryl is 2/2. I promised her that I would stop coloring my own hair (drastic changes anyway) and would see her every 6 weeks. She has a maintenance program which must work, because my sister goes to her every 4-6 weeks and her hair always looks great. We've decided mine is a work in progress - but I have to say that this is the best my hair has looked in a very long time. If you read my original Yelp! review below, I have to clarify that Avance' has two sections. The main salon, which is pretty standard and the back room, which I still think feels like the garage. But a friend's cool hangout garage. I've been to most of the top salons on the island in search of a good stylist and have gone to owners and "master" stylists. Their technique may be more refined and the environment uncomfortably posh, but I was never satisfied. I rather go somewhere I feel comfortable and to someone who is going to be straight with me and actually CARE about my crazy head of hair. Seriously, just because something is fancy doesn't make it the best. Find what's best for you - who's best for you - and go with it. Mahalo again to Cheryl for my rocker mama hairdo!! I'll see you in 6 weeks girl! read more

Like going to my friends' house. That's how it feels when I go to Avance Salon. I've known Deb for years. She is wonderful. A fabulous stylist and confidante. Courteous, helpful..."Do you want a cup of coffee or water or tea?"... Lots of parking that's right at the front door. Easy for wheelchairs. Near Nordstrom. Call for an appointment. read more

My mom and sister introduced me to the salon a few years back and it is the only place I'll go to get my hair done! Deb and Emi are AWESOME! I'm at the point where I don't even need to look in the mirror when I leave because I know my hair looks perfect :] Deb showed me ideas on how to put my hair up for an upcoming interview, and how to trim my bangs myself ;] The salon gives off a very friendly vibe... It's clean and everyone around is super friendly! Theres a lot of parking just for Avance customers on the second level of the structure. read more

I had the best color/cut/style with Alvina. She really listened to what I wanted and also gave me some great advice on how to deal with my thick/curly hair. We discussed a wonderful plan on how best to grow my hair a little longer, while keeping a clean and stylish look. I will be back to see her every 6 weeks! read more

Stunned. Simply stunned! at 63 I just got my BEST HAIR CUT EVER! met Daniel outside the salon and approached him about shaping up my natural curly hair. Went in yesterday and OMG when I opened the door of the salon was I surprised! in a secure building....which is rather plain....but NOT the salon! Busy, buzzing, GREAT vibe! did I say GREAT? YES! Daniel chatted with me about my wants/needs with my hair and the cut then proceeded to chat our way through it. A kind soul of a gentleman...sadly a rarity anymore. I left with a HUGE smile....when my husband saw my cut HE flipped too! (hard man to impress, let me tell ya!) Don't hesitate, Daniel is da MAN! thankyouthankyouthankyou! read more

I love Avance! I've been all over the country but always miss Tammie and Avance when I'm gone. I'm so happy to be back now so I can see Tammie for my hair again! read more

This place is awesome. I see Cheryl and she is fantastic. I go to her and always ask her opinion about what I should do with my hair and she has great feedback. I always like how my hair turns out. She does a great color as well. So far I haven't been disappointed. It does not feel awkward or uncomfortable there. I will continue to go there. The place is really easy to find. Depending on what time you go, the parking is usually ample and are all marked. read more

Like a lot of other women, I found it hard to find someone who could do hair like Deb does. And whenever Deb was on vacation Cheryl did my hair just as good as Deb. Great salon!! I do not know what "yelpist" Marin Z is talking about. read more

KELLIE IS MINE! Is that inappropriate to virtually shout that? By nature, I'm a creature of habit. When I find someone, something, someplace I like, I like to go back, over and over. As a merchant, that's a great thing because you'll have a repeat customer for life as long as I'm happy. And truly...I'm very easy to please. Great customer service, value for the product or service and cleanliness is really all I need. If I'm recognized as a repeat customer and you throw me a bone occasionally, I'll advocate for you and advertise for free so it brings in new clients or customers for you / your business. I promise I'm try not to be obnoxious when I'm the duchess of an establishment (other than shouting at the top of my lungs, "I'M THE DUCHESS BITCHES!!!" Okay, okay...I don't really shout it. I speak it loudly. In my mind. Unless there's someone I know with me. Then, I actually verbalize it but only so the party I'm with, hears me. Unless I'm tipsy...because then, I may be loud and obnoxious, period. But I digress...where was I? Oh yeah...so, confession time. I don't know why but I can't seem to find a hairdresser that I'm completely happy with. In my adult life, the average life span of a hair stylist I frequent is about 3-4 years. I've had one as long as 6 years but no one longer than that. Kellie is the 5th hair stylist I've gone to and I believe I have found "the one." I wish I could credit Yelp for finding her...but WAIT! Actually, indirectly, it WAS Yelp that led me to Kellie! Here's how...I used to go to Adrienne to do my nails, who used to work in the Avance Salon. I found Adrienne through Yelp. When I had another one of my hair stylist A.D.D. moments and asked who Adrienne would recommend so I could increase some efficiency in my life and make one stop whenever I wanted to do hair and nails, she recommended Kellie. THANK YOU YELP! See, maybe all roads do lead back to Yelp. Anyway, Kellie is absolutely awesome. Talk about great customer service...she styles my hair for no extra charge, she remembered details about our conversation when I only started with her 3 months ago and she is SO easy to talk with. I feel like I'm catching up with a friend that does my hair well. She's very easy going and is not afraid to provide her expertise whenever you're on the fence on what to do with your hair. Highly recommend! read more

Everyone!!!!! See Emi!!!!! I have been going to Emi since high school and she is awesome! She will use her expertise to make your hair the way you want it and I swear on the bible that she will make your hair gorgeous! Get your hair done by Emi and you will not regret it! read more

I'm super fussy about the salon I call home. My stylist has to cut well, be an expert colorist and the salon has to FEEL right. Clean, comfortably chic, fun dialogue. It took me over five years to find the right salon and I am soooo happy I found Debs at Avance!!! read more

Worst salon I have ever been to, save yourself some time and money and do not go here.
