She is patient, detailed, funny, and very much understanding of the style of what I wanted (ombré, cateye, Pastel purpose, gold foils) even tho I didn't really know what exactly kind of design to get, she nailed it (pun intended). Definitely would come back again for pedicure and future nail art. Price is very reasonable (I did my research and compared to 6+ popular nail salons nearby) and no hidden charges. I had the opportunity to have David Richer do my services of shampoo, haircut and blow dry. I explained what I wanted and David said he understood how I wanted my hair trimmed. David asked me if I wanted my hair shorter and my reply was "no". I wanted to keep my length and trim what I already had. David made the first cut and showed me what he thought was a straight cut to my length. I told him my hair is cut in a horseshoe shape. My heart sank. He showed me three inches of hair. Needless to say David cut my hair how he wanted it. He knew he messed up but still charged me plus an extra $10 to blow dry my long hair. read more

Renee sat me down, didn't judge me (out loud OR to anyone else - you know how some salons have the back room talk, don't tell me you don't!), and went over what we could do to save my hair. It did take me two sessions due to the state it was in but they hung in with me the whole way. I got the majority of my hair back to my natural looking color AND got highlights put in to brighten up my face and IT LOOKS AMAZING!!! I am a pretty low maintenance person so it is the most I have ever spent on my hair but I love being back to feeling confident. If I could give Sanctuary 10 stars I would. I was supposed to have my tea ceremony and my original makeup artist canceled last minute because of covid 2 days before the event. I was frantically looking for any place that could take my mother in law, mother, my friend and myself and do hair and makeup for all 4 of us. Renee responded within minutes and was super patient with all of my questions while dealing with my anxiety and even moved some appointments around to accomodate all of us. When we arrived on the day of to get our hair and makeup done, the team was so welcoming from the beginning to the very end. Leah, Sabrina and Patty were SO efficient getting through all of our makeup and hair while making the entire experience so fun and relaxing. The end results were FLAWLESS. They made everyone feel so beautiful and words can't even describe how full my heart was when I saw how happy the moms were with their makeup and hair. It was clear that the team made them feel beautiful especially because they rarely ever get the chance to get done up. The last time might have been their own weddings decades ago! I found Sanctuary Salon on Yelp while looking for a hair salon that could take me very last minute while I was on vacation in Oahu for 3 days. I realized quickly that many salons are closed on Sundays!! I called Sanctuary and spoke to Sabrina - I let her know I was only in town for a few days and desperately trying to get a hair cut! Not only was she quick to fit me in but she also helped squeeze my friend in for a color correction the next day. I LOVED my hair cut by Sabrina, one of the best cuts I ever had in my lifetime. She listened to what I was looking for and gave me the exact same cut I showed her. THIS rarely happens for me, I always leave other salons thinking "this did not come out the way I asked." This place is a vibe! The name is so fitting. Salon is upstairs next to last gas station on zoo end of Kapahulu. Large windows let in tons of natural light and a view of magical diamond head. Two weeks ago I walked in to Sanctuary Salon for a blond balayage. Really excited because I hadn't fixed my hair in over two years and I had been going through soo many reviews all around Oahu to find the best hair salon for balayage and decided to go for Sanctuary Salon. It felt like a good decision as soon as I walked in. Everyone was so professional and friendly they all took really good care of me. I told Renee & Sabrina how I wanted it but unfortunately did I use "Sun-in" some months earlier (at that time I didn't know it would hurt my hair and it doesn't go well with bleach). They were afraid that if they started to bleach my hair it would destroy it- like wet cotton candy so they gave me a detox cure and told me to come back after two weeks. --And that's how I knew that they care about my hair and the result and not about the quick money. The salon itself is huge boasting a nail artist a separate wash room and at least 3 clusters of station. It is very tastefully decorated. I got Renee, owner and master stylist. I love this place!! Morgan was my stylist and she's such a sweetheart! It's such a positive and upbeat environment and I felt super comfortable right off the bat. I came here very anxious from the beginning and came out very satisfied in the end. I only asked for a haircut and nothing else because I wanted to try it out. Morgan washed and styled my hair. I prefer to have a little surprise haircut and leave it up to the professionals to be creative. My go-to reference is shoulder-length cut, some layerings and face frame. Morgan suggested a subtle A-line and said if I wanted more shorter on the back of my hair I could. I opted for more subtlety. I don't like to use photos for reference because I understand each stylist has their different take on hairstyles. Hence I use a generic reference and leave the rest up for professionals to do the rest. I'm sooo glad I gave this place a try!
