I love this place!! Morgan was my stylist and she's such a sweetheart! It's such a positive and upbeat environment and I felt super comfortable right off the bat. I came here very anxious from the beginning and came out very satisfied in the end. I only asked for a haircut and nothing else because I wanted to try it out. Morgan washed and styled my hair. I prefer to have a little surprise haircut and leave it up to the professionals to be creative. My go-to reference is shoulder-length cut, some layerings and face frame. Morgan suggested a subtle A-line and said if I wanted more shorter on the back of my hair I could. I opted for more subtlety. I don't like to use photos for reference because I understand each stylist has their different take on hairstyles. Hence I use a generic reference and leave the rest up for professionals to do the rest. I'm sooo glad I gave this place a try! I can't believe I've never been to this little gem, especially since I grew up in the area! They are located next to Texaco on kapahulu by the subway. They have reserved parking in the back. The salon is upstairs, it's quite bigger than it looks from the outside and decorated so stylishly with a modern chic vibe. They have coffee/tea in the front waiting room you can help yourself to. I was styled by ERIN; she's so friendly and considerate of what you're looking for as far as your look. The timing is perfect, and the overall experience was great. I came across many problems from not being able to make appointment time due to my cars tire popping, my stylist having an emergency and still made time to come back and do my hair after hours! They kept in contact and made every effort to get my hair done because I was leaving for a trip that next day and wanted to get it done before then. My stylist was Lia, she was absolutely amazing and sweet. Very accommodating and good conversation. I have had my hair done before which was done okay, not the best. She recognized this and gave me her expert opinion on what I should do. She decided to do some highlight in certain places and cover up my exposed roots as my old color had grown out a lot. Decided it was time for a change, messaged the salon on Yelp, and received a quick response from Erin B. She lightened, cut, and styled my hair - not sure what all the terms are, but you get the gist. Erin brought my hair back to life. I also learned a lot that I did not previously know about my hair and products that I have been using. I loved that the salon was clean and that I didn't have to go through a receptionist to pay and check out. Renee at Sanctuary Salon is a angel a friend shared a post on fb from her about offering a way to get a professional color kit made to match our hair needs during this quarantine! For someone like me who is a essential worker and can't be all 'habajang' out in the public ... it is a must !!! So I quickly messaged her and sent her some " in the sun" photos and we discussed needs set a pick up time after paying via Venmo and went and picked up the kit from behind a plexiglass window from sweet gloved and masked assistant ! Saw other ladies in cars waiting for their turn to grab their kits ! Renee was super organized and made sure everyone was called individually to avoid contact. She sets a FaceTime for that day or the next to walk you through the process ... I was inspired to get my hair done here by my co-worker who is an Asian girl with the whitest/gray hair color you have ever seen. Her hair has no orange or red at all or damage. This place is a vibe! The name is so fitting. Salon is upstairs next to last gas station on zoo end of Kapahulu. Large windows let in tons of natural light and a view of magical diamond head. All of the stylists are so down to earth and friendly. It was such a different experience compared to other salons with harsh lighting and catty hoity toity energy. I loved my session with Patty! Your probably taking a look at the reviews to decide where you want to go here and do your hair. Look no further, this is exactly where you want to go. After disappointment, and the worst hair cut/color ever from two different salons... I desired a hairstylist that knew exactly what I want. Although I am aware that the color I am trying to achieve will take more than one session, the color that I was left with from the last salon was just disgusting. I did not want to leave my hair down, it was always in a bun. It looked bleached. You know those bleach bottles you can get from longs and you do it yourself? Yeah that. It was horrible. First, I want to thank Renee for squeezing me into a busy day like Saturday especially for the many services that I was requesting. I wanted to color correct, Brazilian blowout and possible extensions. She was able to accommodate me and my many needs. This place is a hidden gem. At first it was hard to find... but after reading other reviewers I was able to find it behind the gas station. They have their own private lot, which is kind of small but Its fine. I was able to find parking. Don't let the outside fool you either, it may look small but when you get inside, it's pretty roomy. Now let's get to the service... everyone here is really nice! Sabrina and Renee are the dream team and really took the time to consult and break it down for me to get to my hair goal. I really loved how they took the time on my hair and let me say, I can't stress enough how wonderful Renee and Sabrina are! Although it was took super long since I wanted to color and also Brazilian blow dry... it was worth the wait. My hair is everything I've ever wanted. Had a fantastic experience with this salon (and more specifically, with Erin) today! I was desperately needing a root coverup to hide the greys, a cut, and some highlights. I found this salon on yelp and messaged back and forth with Renee the owner, who was very kind, patient, flexible, and able to match me with Erin, who as far as I'm concerned was a God-send! (Thank you, Renee!) Erin communicated with me before the appointment to confirm and helped me with location and parking, as it was my first time there.. She met me with a friendly smile and we went over what I was hoping to do.. I had some questions for her and asked her advice- and believe me, I'm glad I let her have creative control!! Good thing for the other persons review on location since I was lost! It is located upstairs in the building behind the bank. I was in town for a wedding from CA and wanted a quick updo for myself and my daughter. E-mailed them 3 days before we arrived and they were real quick with calling me back and scheduling my appt. I didn't get photos of the back of mine or my 7 year old daughters hair but was real cute. Kylie? did a braid for my daughter and pinned her hair up and my hair was teased and put up with pins. I believe it Took about an hour for both of us. Only thing I regret was asking the charge for each before I arrived because when I went to pay It was $80 each!! so walked out with a $200 bill which I could of used for our vacation :( no kaimaina discount. but I know its priceless to look beautiful right! read more

Let me start off by saying if you're not already going to Sanctuary Salon you should really hop on the wagon. You're really missing out on some really great talents & wonderful women here. Salon is clean, and very comfortable. No smell of chemicals and the women there were constantly cleaning. I loved that! Anyways, here we go. I texted the number provided on their website at 730am, they don't open til 10am. Maybe about 45 mins later I get a call from Kira, asking me about the history of my hair & she worked her magic and got me in on the same day!! I've read most of the reviews on here and not very many mention Kira. And I'd like to ask. Why the hell not? She's very professional and very accommodating. Loved her personality. Loved how she wasn't at all irritated that I texted her so damn early in the morning hoping, praying that she could squeeze me in for a last minute appointment. She checked up on me constantly asking if I needed water, all the while running around cleaning. Shes great! Thank you Kira, because without you I'd still have ugly hair! Now on to the services. Everyone here is so nice & down to earth. They aren't your usual stuck up hair stylists that holds their nose in the air either. All are very warm and welcoming. I got the privilege to have Renee cut my hair and she was so quick it was mesmerizing. This woman really knows her stuff and there is a reason she is the owner of this salon. I have heard about the infamous Renee for roughly two decades. I finally called her after having red/brassy hay mop for years. I can't remember the last time my hair wasn't ORANGE :( My friends Fitha, Kim, & Chanel raved about her & the Sanctuary Salon. I took the leap & called to book an appointment. I appreciated the fact Renee talked me through all of the process she was going to do to my hair. My appointment was today at 11:30 AM and I was still quite nervous. She sat me down and looked at how fragile my hair was and did a test on a variety of hair samples throughout my head. She noticed some were very damaged and easily breakable and also looked at places where my hair had a cowlick and suggested to part my hair the other way. absolute magicians work in this salon. I walked in after getting completely botched at Finka hair salon. Sabrina and Renee worked on restoring my hair and were lovely, vibrant and hilarious ladies. They walked me through the process of my hair and let me know exactly what they were planning and made sure I would like it. They were very thorough in the consultation, even letting me know what the other stylist at Finca did wrong and how they planned to repair it. I'm reluctant to review one of the best kept secrets in town, the Sanctuary Salon! After decades of searching for the perfect hairstylist, I finally found my favorite, Erin B! I called for an appointment on a Friday afternoon, asking if they had time for a mommy makeover, and the staff was able to squeeze me in that day. That wasn't even the best part. After finding parking, the friendly, helpful staff and Zero, the cutest doggie 'Mayor' of the salon, came to greet me. It was a nice change to the otherwise stressful day I was having. I explained to Erin, my stylist, that after a couple decades of 'blah' haircuts, I was ready for a major makeover, and she was welcome to unleash her creative freedom on my hair. Erin was amazing. Like a professional, she gave me detailed information about what she was about to do to my hair, showed me pictures, and kept checking in with me along the way. IN ADDITION to her creative hairstyling talents, Erin is really caring and thoughtful. She really took the time to talk story and even picked up my lunch from the Subway downstairs when she found out I hadn't even eaten yet! Even tho my hair appointment lasted a couple hours longer than expected due to some unexpected snafus with the coloring (not surprising for a first-time appointment), I walked out of there feeling refreshed and rejuvenated, having had a marvelous hair makeover with a subtle balayage, shampoo, cut and blowout (and also having some food in the belly)! It's been two years since I saw Sis Sabrina S. And she remembered a lot about our last service. As usual she is a well-rounded stylist and has a great eye for really curly hair. We did a Brazilian keratin treatment and it was really easy! The look in her eyes as she was working told me that I was about to get "STUNNING" The service in total took roughly 2 hours or so. Honestly we were talking so much that time flew by.
