Sadly, I wouldn't recommend this salon to anyone looking for lasting or professional-quality hair services.

I hadn't gotten my hair done since November of 2019, so I was due for a cut at the very least. After perusing Yelp reviews of different hair salons in the area, I came across Dorene Furtado's work. She had pictures up of the exact hair color and style that I wanted, so I knew I had to contact her right away. Booking with Dorene was easy and seamless through text, and she was able to fit me in on New Years Eve! The salon itself is in the Kaka'ako district. I've only ever been there a couple of times, so driving past all the mural decorated warehouses was so nice during the day. You can definitely see how unique and vibrant of a neighborhood it is. Parking was super easy; Nueve Salon has their own parking lot, and location wise is very easy to find. The salon is clean, bright, and well-kept, and I felt lucky to have been the only person in that day. Dorene took her time to explain what she was going to do, and ensured that she was able to execute exactly what I wanted without damaging my hair. After a couple of hours in the chair, some highlights, and a cut later, I felt lighter and like I had finally had some self care time (a rarity with kids). Thank you, Dorene, for your beautiful work!

It had been a while since I had been and couldn't recall how long and the hair dresser just proceeded to tell me that it had been longer than I was saying and proving me wrong. I couldn't decide how I wanted to style it and asked for suggestions and she just said she doesn't give suggestions. This lasted the entire hair cut. I showed a picture and showed her to do it like that and she said, 'I'm just going to stick to what you said before.' Then I just finally said, 'do whatever you'd like.' I tipped her well because she did a great job, but it was a very uncomfortable experience. Quality work, not quality customer service. Will not be back.

This salon should be grateful I did not press charges after stylist Jiji gave me chemical bleach…read moreburns, causing lasting physical damage to my head, and making me cry in pain in my chair. This happened a while ago but I have finally had the time to process what happened and I am still traumatized by my experience here. I went in for a root retouch on 3/4. My hair was already platinum blonde when I arrived so it seemed like a simple job, I just needed to get my roots redone. The stylist I went to Jiji greeted me with a fairly bothered attitude from the beginning. As soon as she applied the bleach she thought it was a good time to tell me the cost of the simple root touch up ($150, a little higher than what I expected since my hair is so short they definitely need less product than most jobs) Half way through processing I felt an excruciating pain on my scalp! I had chemical burns on the top of my forehead! After washing out the terrible uneven bleach job I had brown hair in some places with brass hair in other places. The Jiji proceeded to apply a toner to try and fix the bleach job.. that turned my hair BLUE. I started crying as the stylist proceeded to tell me I still had to pay for this terrible experience. Luckily the manager intervened to tell me I wouldn't have to pay but left me feeling like they didn't care about the damage and time wasted at the salon. They gave me two small hair products with the value of $50. Bare minimum of a sorry and made it very clear she didn't want to invited me back for them to prove they can actually do good hair. After that Jiji faulted to the only thing that could possibly make it okay, dying my hair brown. Not only did she dye my hair brown, a color I did not want or ask for, but she got the dye all over my scalp - no doubt to cover the burns she caused me. At this point I've already been at the salon for hours, and went from bleaching my roots to going back to a darker brown, which was extremely damaging for no reason. Not only was her personality rude, but she was also terrible at her job - like pick a struggle. This whole experience is very disappointing and I hope this stylist has been fired and lost her license. Whatever you do, do not see Jiji.

Very professional, incredibly knowledgeable, super friendly, and so chill. The salon is bumping, but the schedule is always en pointe - no over scheduling! There are a few metered stalls in front and a free parking lot in the rear shared by other businesses in the building, in addition to a lot of neighborhood street parking, particularly if you don't mind a stroll.
