We waited about half an hour to be seated, but it was very busy (which is a good sign) so that was no issue, plus the aromas were delightful! We had the sampler appetizer...soo fresh and delicious! We also had then smoked wings...they were very tender, very flavorful and crispy! We shared the mixed grill player..just perfection! We also had the lemon and mint drinks...yummy! The food was just outstanding! And the decor is on the contemporary side, yet inviting and warm. Our server Noor A.was great! Rudest service ever. DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU ARE NOT ARAB. I understand that this is cultured restaurant but should have put a sign up if they only wanted Arabs in the establishment. Manger came over after 20 minutes to see if we wanted an appetizer. The waiter acts as if bringing us a dish of dip for the bread is an outrageous request. I recently brought a dear friend to M'Dakhan to try a true authentic Palestinian meal. Needless to say, we ended up ordering almost everything on the menu, including the Arayes, Kibbeh, Kuftah with Tahini, and Mansaf Rolls, which were all very delicious! I can also say that the smoked ribs are an absolute must! For dessert, we ordered the Knaffeh and a pot of Arabic tea, which was decorative and added a really nice touch to the evening. One thing to note is that they don't take reservations, so be prepared for a bit of a wait. But it's totally worth it! While you wait, the host, dressed in authentic Middle Eastern cultural clothing, will keep you entertained as he serves hot aromatic Arabian coffee with notes of cardamom. The owner/manager is really friendly and will make you feel welcome and at right at home. I must say, I'm in awe every time I come to M'Dakhan, and every moment here is memorable! This is by far the best halal smoked meat I've ever had. The menu is amazing and every dish they have looks amazing. We had a brisket sandwich was really good and the fries were crispy and seasoned, a mixed grill plater was really tender, and I had the beef ribs over rice, and wish I could save that flavor forever it was heavenly. The inside was really cozy and the decor had authentic Palestinian vibes. The service was a little slow but it's understandable seeing the place was packed. And one more thing they don't do reservations, that was one thing I didn't like, because it's really hard to get a table. We came here for iftar and the food was good, so we were actually planning to come back again with more friends and family. However, the service completely ruined the experience. Our friend had a reservation for 9 people (8 adults and one 2 year old toddler) , but due to family emergencies only 6 adults ended up coming (instead of 6). When the bill came, they charged us for 9 Ramadan specials which included the 2-yr old. Since when did we start charging kids for adult meals? Make it make sense. When we explained to our waiter that only six people showed up, the owner/manager came over and was very dismissive. His explanation was that he would "lose money" because 3 people didn't come, (again the third "people" was a toddler). That made absolutely no sense, especially since we ordered plenty of additional food (the ramadan special includes only appetizer like hummus, babaganush, desert, and tea) and our total bill was pretty high for six people. Charging for people who are not there and even a toddler for an adult meal is unreasonable and pretty greedy especially during the holy month of ramadan. We expected more. It's really unfortunate because we would have gladly returned eventhough it's very far and out of our way. But after this experience and the way we, Muslim sisters were treated by our brother in faith, we won't be coming back. The vibe was completely off, I witnessed 4 people walk up to who looked like the manager ready to fist fight for the horrible treatment they were receiving. I should've known better when I called to make reservations and was told "we only do walk ins" but we stayed hopeful thinking that the food must be worth it if we're all waiting this long right? Boy was I wrong, the food was below average, tabouleh was seasoned with citric acid, hummus and baba ghannuj tasted identical, lamb chops and mix grill were mediocre. This is by far the worst middle eastern restaurant I've ever been to and I will advise everyone to go anyway within a mile from there and would have a much better experience. There's about 10 restaurants I could name in the area that serves 110% better without having your night ruined. They still have your typical mashawee (grilled food), but then they have smoked meats as well and even other great dishes. Not even that, they have a phenomenal breakfast as well. Everything is so good. I would recommend the beef brisket sandwich and the beef ribs. A few of us agree that the lamb shank is not the greatest, so that would be on my least favorite list. My top recommendation would be the creamy freekah, one of the best dishes I've ever had. Hoping to try to make it at home lol. It's a bit expensive, so keep that in mind. Service, as always, is great. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The seating area is beautiful. We all decided to order a different dish and share it . The food was hot and delicious . We all shared each others . I enjoyed the food here. I went twice during my stay in Chicago. The first time I went I tried the spicy steak, grilled wings, and kuba. Everything was delicious. The next time I went we tried the beef ribs and the mansaf. As someone who doesn't like my meat with a lot of fat this wasn't a good pick for me but I understand that others may enjoy it. The service was great as the waiters and waitresses are very attentive. The restaurant itself is very clean and nicely decorated. I would definitely recommend for everyone to try this restaurant.
