    12. Kalaya 9. Eggs with Potatoes

Ordered Shish Kabob Sandwich, Falafels, Kalaya and Eggs and Potatoes. And man, everything was AMAZING!!! Even the side of pickled vegetables that were served with the food were absolutely phenomenal! The service was friendly, sweet snd prompt. Neto polish everything off, the best (and most comforting) mint tea!!! It's an absolute MUST to visit and eat at this restaurant!!!

I've been coming here since they originally opened their first location in Chicago! The food is authentic and fresh every time! The service is fast including when ordering through Grubhub! I've never had the opportunity to dine inside so I can't comment on the ambiance however I will vouch that the quality of the food is always outstanding! Palestinian owned and operated! The owner is a kind person and always goes above and beyond for his customers ensuring that they have a great experience! I usually order the hummus (with steak), baba ghanouj, kelaya, and shawarma wraps. If you haven't tried the Nile Restaurant, I highly suggest you check them out!

For Middle Eastern food, this is a great hole in the wall joint. You get a selection of old school middle eastern sandwiches in pocket pitas and now they offer wraps. There's a barrage of, what looks to be, family members working the back kitchen. Every employee seems to help out one another, as well. I prefer my beef shawarma in a pocket pita, and that's why I ordered it. It came quickly and had lots of beef. The tahini sauce is a great compliment. You also receive a pickled turnip and peperoncino dish with it. They taste great when you add it to your sandwich. I also ordered tabouli and foul (pronounced fool). The tabouli wasn't too bad. I squeezed some more lemon and it tasted just right afterwards. It was chopped finely, which is how I like it. Foul is moudamas/fava beans slightly mashed with olive oil, garlic, salt and lemon. I was disappointed in that dish. It had no flavor. It needed lemon and salt. Booooo. If you're looking for fancy, go somewhere else. This is very authentic and isn't expensive at all. You'll be brought to an establishment that has the same style cooking as mom's in Palestine. That's why I keep coming back.

The place is very busy so parking can be a bit hard to find but they do have an overflow lot. Inside, they have a seating area where you can wait until you're seated at a table. Both times I've been there the wait time was around 20-30 minutes but trust me, the food is worth the wait. Even though they were busy, our server was attentive and the food didn't take too long to come out. I went with a group and for our appetizer we tried the platter that comes with hummus, baba ganoush, grape leaves, and fresh pita bread. For my drink, I had the lemon mint smoothie...very refreshing. The plates that my husband and I got were the chicken shawarma sandwich with a salad and the filet plate that comes with rice as well as grilled tomato and grilled onion. They give you generous portions which made it possible for me to share some of my meal with someone in my group to try and I still had leftovers. Finally, we could not leave without having dessert. We had knafeh which is made fresh. Everything was amazing and I can't wait to come back next time I visit the Chicagoland area.

I called them because I wasn't sure if the online version would be too slow. We were a group of three that came in Saturday night at 7 pm. It was moderately busy. The staff were all welcoming with smiles on their faces and attentiveness. Prices were fair for the amount of food you receive. Food portions are colossal so I would recommend one appetizer and one entree if you are a couple. They give you a complimentary dish. We ordered arayes with meat, meat toshka, mixed grill with baba ghanouj, fillet of basa fried, and mint lemonade. They also offer you fresh Arabic coffee before you leave. This is about a 4.5-5. -arayes with meat 4 - this was not bad. It's like a tamer version of the meat toshka. -meat toshka 5 - I prefer this over the arayes because they add the Syrian cheese. This one was bursting with flavor the moment you took a bite out of it. The minced beef and lamb just melt in the mouth. -mixed grill 5 - this came with 3 big skewers (shish kabab, kufta kabab, and chicken tawook. It also has tomatoes and onions to help cut down the meat when digesting. There are two heaping portions of biryani and saffron rice and baba ghanouj. The baba ghanouj was creamy and flavorful. It goes well with the pita bread. The meats were cooked medium well unless you want something. I think next time I'll ask for the shish kababs to be cooked medium rare or medium for a more juicy taste. The chicken tawook and kufta were both succulent. -fillet of basa fried 5 - the two pieces of basa fillet were astronomical. It also comes with two different kinds of rice. The fish was flaky, moist, and seasoned. Make sure you add the lemon and eat it with the sauce. -mint lemonade 5 - this was very refreshing after eating a heavy meal.

We came on a Saturday night around 7 pm and we were able to find parking immediately. To be clear, the parking area is kind of tight and cramped. If you can't find parking here, you can try seeing if parking is available in the neighborhood or next door. Inside Al Manakeesh, they have a plentiful amount of tables. You order at the front, receive a pager, and wait for your food. They have additional drinks in the back. They are known for making Middle Eastern flatbread pizzas and kaaks (bagel). Customer service was great. They were very efficient at making the food and drinks. Everyone was nice. No one was pushy when we ordered our items. Prices were good, they were inexpensive. We ordered egg/meat/cheese, pepperoni, mixed meat bagel, sfeha with tahaina, and zaatar/akkawi cheese/cherry tomato. Honestly, everything was a 5/5. I liked that the pizzas weren't floppy and none of the ingredients slid off. The portions were huge. I also got a peach matcha. After mixing it, the peach taste was very noticeable: -The pepperoni tastes cleaner and more flavorful than the American places. For some reason, the American ones are so greasy and oily. -For the egg/meat/cheese pizza, the egg taste really stands out. -Sfeha is halal ground beef and has more flavor than regular ground beef. The tahaina helps make it pop. -The zaatar/akkawi/cherry tomato is an awesome combination. When you take that first bite, you'll immediately taste all of the ingredients. It's that prominent. -The mixed meat kaak has halal turkey, halal roast beef, halal salami, mozzarella, Mexican cheese, and their signature sauce. They give you two cups of sauces. One I think is the signature sauce and the red one is a little spicy. The portion is big enough to share between 3-4 people.

Plus the experience (service) was really good, and, we couldn't wait to come back. Unfortunately, when we returned just 4 days later (on Wednesday) it was a disaster... There was no hostess this time, just 3 gentlemen, we waited about 10 minutes before anyone even came to our table with menus (we were the only clients, the restaurant was empty) they didn't greet us or say hello, and simply dropped the menus on the table and walked away, and about 10 minutes later, someone finally came back to take our order, but the biggest disappointment, though, was the food. We ordered the hummus, and it was clearly a SPOILED It had an extremely sour taste, similar to spoiled milk, It was SOOO BAD that I couldn't even eat it. We also ordered the mac and cheese bites, and they were absolutely drenched in oil The service was just as disappointing. No one ever brought us water or even asked if we'd like something to drink, not even the complimentary water that most restaurants provide. At the end of the meal, we had to walk up to the cashier ourselves to pay, and the staff was rude throughout the entire interaction. Our first visit was so wonderful, but our second experience completely changed our impression, we won't be returning.

Thus, we drove down the street to Shibam instead, which was nice and empty. I believe this is the newer Shibam, as there's another Shibam down the street on Harlem next to Prince Sweets. The parking lot is spacious enough, and the restaurant is located right next to Shibam Market, so you can get groceries afterwards. The interior of Shibam looks okay. The booths are comfortable and spacious, and the restaurant overall is spacious. There's even a small area for prayer space. Like other Yemeni restaurants, they have plastic tablecloths for easy cleanup afterwards. We were given a couple of menus and picked our own booth. We ordered lamb haneeth (rice w/ lamb) and agda chicken (chicken stew w/ veggies); for the latter dish, we selected bread instead of rice. They also served complimentary salad, broth, and some sort of hot sauce. The lamb haneeth was very good, but we noticed the amount of meat was less than a couple other Yemeni restaurants we've tried. Still, it was enough for the three of us. The chicken dish was pretty flavorful and had plenty of veggies, but it was a bony chicken, so we had to pick off the meat. The broth and hot sauce were good. Overall a nice meal. Service was friendly and pricing was reasonable.
