I have tried many BBQ places and always passed by this place. However, I was in the area with no car and decided to stop by. I'm glad I did. Their bbq chicken and ribs are amazing. The ribs even remind me of the Mattson's ribs, which was a nice trip down memory lane since they recently closed. I have been to billy boys several times and it kills me I have to leave this review. Today we decided to grab some to bring some food home after a long day. We get our food in the house and our drink container and what crawled out of it but a cockroach. I tried to get the best picture I could. I have to say I am extremely disappointed in this! Billy Boys is in a busy area (95th and Ridgeland) but the location is odd. It's tough to get to with all of the traffic. The parking lot is tight. It's also connected to a liquor store. The dining area reminds me of the old Arby's restaurants. Meh. However, the food is really good. You're not going to be having business dinners or special occasion celebrations here. I started to come since it first opened some 40 years ago when it mostly got four to five star ratings. I read the recent ratings and it's apparent that quality of food as well as customer service has gone downhill. I don't live close anymore but try to stop in when in Oak Lawn and noticed a few years ago that they changed their gyros cones from Kronos to Corfu which is probably cheaper and has a sweeter taste that I don't care for myself. Very very few Gyros places use Corfu which tells me that Kronos is the higher quality meat company. Sadly, according to the reviews, it appears they have also downgraded the ribs which was pretty dumb as they used to be a top-notch place in ribs! Stopped on our way from taking my dad to his Doctors appointment. My brother said the place was pretty good so we made the trip. It seems the ribs here is the talk of the town so I opted for the 1/2 slab. Brother no.1 also had the ribs and brother no.2 had the gyros. Our dad had a cheese burger and we also bought a shrimp dinner to munch on. The ribs were very good, pull the bone out type, tender and good barbeque sauce. The only thing I didn't like is that they throw the fries on top of the ribs which sucks up some of the sauce...which wasn't a bad combo, fries and barbeque sauce, I just don't like my food mixed like that. The shrimp was pretty good, my brother said the gyros was very good too. The service was fair, I've seen this style before, order at one end of the bar pick up your tray at the other end, it's just that we ordered a lot and was cumbersome to handle all those trays. The fact that they batter and deep fry things fresh. Sure, you can get a mozz stick anywhere, but 99% of places will have them in the freezer and drop them in oil. Here they'll batter and fry it fresh. They'll even coat it in buffalo sauce. Hell, they'll do the same to provolone cheese, except they'll brush it with garlic butter! I had the queso sticks, which was cheddar and green chilis, breaded with crushed tortilla chips and fried! Talk about your heart attack grill! I have to keep reminding myself that I can't eat here as often as I'd like, for safety reasons! Deep fried heaven! As we sat and ate, employees were wiping down the tables, doors, and door handles! Monk would be proud! I haven't tried the ribs though. I'm really picky about my ribs. I like them to have bark, and I like them to be pink from sitting in a smoker for hours! I don't know if that's what they have here, so I got what I really wanted, a great burger. I may update this review if I try them. After years and years and driving by this place and going to the other establishments nearby,I decided to give them a try. I got a super-taco (ground beef based taco served on a pita) and a small fry. My wife got a cheeseburger and a small fry. The super-taco was good and the frys were decent. My wife said the cheeseburger was decent and she felt the frys were decent as well. With so many items on the Menu.....I'm definitely going to try other items !!! It's just kind of seedy, or shabby, and coupled with Billy Boys' drab interior, it feels like you're dining in Purgatory. There's no drive-thru, which means that, unless you're local, you pretty much have to eat inside. In any case, the food is nothing special. The burgers are bland and unhealthy and the much ballyhooed ribs are nothing out of the ordinary. My tongue has led me repeatedly to some unlikely places, but I never once said to myself, "Dude, I got a taste for Billy Boys."
