I was referred to him by a friend in 2007 and have been taking my cars to him ever since. The savings start with his labor costs, which are lower than dealerships to begin with. This is especially helpful on longer jobs where you're looking at 1-2 days of labor and potentially saving hundreds of dollars. He doesn't try to screw you with ridiculous parts markup either, and will let you provide your own if you are so inclined. That said, when the quality of a particular part will make a tangible difference, he'll get the nicer part for you (or let you know and offer his suggestions). While fixing your car, Phil is looking holistically at the work he is doing, how much you are paying, and what will happen with the car in the future. If he spots an opportunity to save you money on something, he'll bring it to your attention while he's still working on it rather than wait for you come in for a costly follow-up. Many mechanics, in contrast, will fix things over multiple visits so they can bill you for the same labor (e.g. disassembling things and getting to the repair site) again and again. That all said, cost savings wouldn't be helpful if you sacrifice quality or are left feeling uneasy about the work. Thankfully, Phil explains things in plain English that non-mechanics can understand. He tends to be very demonstrative and will show you what is causing the problem, which parts are involved, and how he plans to fix it. At the end, rather than just throwing away the evidence and giving you the bill, he shows you the faulty parts he removed and answers any additional questions. Finally, and perhaps what I appreciate the most, is that Phil will give you a no-bull answer as to what maintenance is critical and what can be deferred. His mindset is clearly focused on building repeat business from satisfied customers rather than nickel-and-diming people on every repair. There are tons of reasons I suggest giving Phil your auto repair business, but the simplest way to say it is that he rehumanizes the auto repair industry and doesn't make you feel like an idiot for not knowing what a headlight fluid intake valve gasket cover terminal is. This is my 201st review on Yelp and there is not a single business among those that I would recommend more emphatically than Why More More Auto Service.
