Both my driver side and passenger side foot room was covered in mud when I got my car back. My glove compartment was also broke and doesn't close since getting my car back from here. I was overcharged for a mass airflow sensor by$724. I was quoted double the average for labor charges. The mechanic caused additional damage while he was performing work that he was unqualified to do and didn't have my permission to do. I received botched and deceptive service on a repetitive basis for over a month. In the end I took it to another mechanic, and it was fixed entirely in less than a day. In total I paid $3,394.31 for the saga (Mass air flow sensor for my car type is $221), I lost my car 5 full days; I had to return to that place 7 times and speak with them repetitively for weeks while they would say it's repaired only to have the engine light pop back on a day or two later; He told me he took my car to the dealership for reprogramming, but he called a friend and they performed cheap tricks on my car. He ran personal errands with my car as he left his purchases in my vehicle when I went to pick it up. He claimed it was a bag of "Tabacco for his mom". I filed a formal complaint with the BBB and The Texas Attorney General's office. He did respond to the complaint, but you'll never guess...he lied and refused to answer any of my 35 questions. He offered me a $306 refund. read more

A couple years ago there was some issues with the water pump of some sorts in the engine of my car, it caused it to overheat and luckily found this place near my neighborhood. Every other place quoted near the $1K mark but this place was upfront about the cost, ordered the parts, and in about two hours (went down a couple blocks to grab some food while waiting) the owner called back and stated it would be $300. Such a relief to trust local auto shops! Now, almost two years later, I've moved across town and had another issue that I knew I would be willing to drive here for. Serviced our broken wipers and wanted to do it for free but paid him for being so honest and quick. If you need a place that won't try to outsmart you or overprice you please give this a chance, nothing but great things to say! read more

I called on a Saturday morning to get an estimate for brakes. I received it immediately and they would fit me in. By 2pm my brakes were replaced and they looked over my car and gave me advice about another possible issue. The price wasn't much different than other places, but I am looking for a place I can trust and have a long relationship. I have 4 cars and I have been searching for a local family run business that is convenient for me and they spoke to me as an adult, not an idiot. I can't give enough stars for this location. The manager and staff (esp. Moe) went above and beyond. My daughter took her car to the dealership and was quoted a ridiculous price for what needed to be done. I immediately went online looking for another shop for a second opinion. We are new to Dallas so we had to base our decision off of reviews. Skillman Automotive lived up to their record and then some. The completed work and more for a lot less than what the dealership quoted me saving me hundreds of dollars. Then to top it off...all work was completed within a few hours. Most Incredible neighborhood mechanic you will ever come across. They are always 100% honest about cost of repairs. Will always go out of their way to help any of their customers. They will Split payments on repairs if you can't afford all at once. Split payments when buying a car. As long as you hold up your end of the agreement and/or at least keep in touch with them they will always work with you. They also will never try to get people to pay for unnecessary repairs. I have always been told exactly what needs to be done. Even if other things may need to be done they will say it can wait. They treat everyone one the same. Doesn't matter who you are. What you are. My partner and I have been together for 19 years (met when we were 20). When we recently bought a 1995 Blazer from them they knew we were gay. And did not treat us any different than anyone else. In fact I believe they went above and beyond when making a deal with the Blazer. Paid the majority up front and The rest two weeks later. They also let us drive the car during the two weeks until we paid off the rest. We held up our end of the agreement even The day before we were due to make the final payment the owner called and asked if we were going to make the pay the next day. Even saying if we needed a couple days more it would be ok. They have always been honest. I recommend anyone that needs repairs done to go through them because I know they will always give you the best deal. They work fast. I even enjoy just stopping by to say hi to the crew. My car broke down on me and the first thing I did I called my friend and he recommend this shop and to call Mike to send me a tow truck within 30 minutes he was here the tow truck took the car to the shop I talked to Mike which is the manger and he told what's wrong with the car he was honest and it was just out of gas he just charged me $45!!! Best mechanic shop other people lie and try to fix it so they make more money and not be honest he told to change the fuel pump in the future because I could drive it for a little more. Do not trust this business with your car. In July 2015 my 86 year father-in-law had his HVAC blower motor replaced, supposedly with a brand new GM motor for which he charged $548, along with $350 in labor. 11 months later the AC went out again. I did some research and checked the part that was in the car. It was obvious the part matched the original. Problem with that? The part installed when the car was built in 1999 was replaced with a new GM part in 2003. So no way could the blower motor put in by Skillman Automotive be brand new. Basically they had purchased a used motor from a pre-2003 car. You can buy those for less than $100. In terms of labor we checked around. The consensus was a labor charge between $135-180 versus the $350 charged by Skillman Automotive. So normally a job that would cost less than $300-350 versus the $900+ Skillman Auto had charged. After leaving the car with them this morning for a diagnosis, Mike called to say to say they would put in an after market motor, charging $300 for the part and no labor cost. On checking I found out that same motor could be bought at O'Reilly for $201 (less for him as a wholesaler, actually $165), and online from Rock Auto for about $107. I did not give them the go ahead to install it but when we went back to discuss all our findings, the new blower was already installed and he expected us to pay the $300, still insisting that all his original charges were justified. I asked for the blower motor that was pulled from the car and it was very obvious that it was not 1 year old, but more like 20 years old. In fact it had 96 on the sticker. After threatening small claims court and WFAA investigative reporting, we drove out of there without paying a penny. Some small success but still out about $200-300 on the huge overcharge in 2015. They saw an old man coming in with an old car and figured they would con him. Don't give these people your business. read more
