I've been back twice since Eddie sold it and the quality and care of service has gone is subpar to the standards in effect under the guidance of the past owners. Rick seemed to actually care about customers while working there with Eddie. And Sal just lacks any kind of follow through on questions. We've been here a handful of times with three different cars and they always treat us well and do excellent work! After bad experiences at three other reputable shops that treated my wife poorly or tried to take advantage of her because they assumed she didn't know what she was doing, we came here on recommendation from a friend and are so glad we did. Sal is the main person we've dealt with and he's always great. He takes the time to explain what's happening, what our options are, and never pressures us to make a decision we aren't comfortable with. Most importantly, It's always bothered me when we go to a mechanic and they only address me and ignore my wife. Like it's all my decision even when it's her car that needs the servicing. Here, they've always spoken to her directly and respectfully so that she leaves feeling like she's learned more about her car and is confident in the work that is being done. This is a review about the customer service. If I could give negative stars, I would. Honestly, I had high hopes because of the reviews... I hate to be THAT person.. but here goes mine. I walk in at 4:45 and am greeted by an elderly lady. I ask whether I can get an oil change here and she said they're about to close in 30 minutes and doesn't think they can do it. I confirmed that they close at 5:30, so she went to check if they would do the oil change. (this was nice). A man comes out and says someone can do it, and I say my appreciation. He keeps me posted on how long it will take and I told him I use the cheapest oil (I have a 2009 Toyota Yaris). I get the invoice and it's $49! I asked the elderly lady why it's $49 cuz I've never had to pay that much for just an oil change. She reads what's on the receipt and I ask her to confirm what exactly it is because I just don't understand... she gives me the biggest attitude and says "can you READ?" Um. EXCUSE ME? Strike one. First, that is extremely rude. Second, I can barely read this handwriting. Third, sorry I want to know exactly what I am spending on! I'm speechless. She rolls her eyes and walks in to get the man to explain it to me. On the way over she mumbles something under her breath about me as if I can't hear. Strike two. The man explains that they use the best quality oil and asks what the problem was. I tell him that I've never had to pay this much for an oil change and ask for him to confirm what 4 things he charged me for: "oil filter, 4 qts? motor oil, labor, checking fluid levels and tires." Educate me. I didn't ask for all that other stuff! I just got my fluid checked over the summer and I check my tire pressure on my own regularly. And then I was charged for shop supplies? WHAT SUPPLIES? The oil filter was $7.95, the 4 oz motor oil was $17.00, labor was $16, shop supplies was $6 something. All totaled to $49.50. What. the. hell. He obviously can tell how shocked I am and offers to take off the $6.00, so it ended up to be $43.01. (I ask friends later, and it should only be $20-35 at most) God bless his soul. When they finish with the oil change, he gives the rude lady my keys. I tell her I accidentally left my wallet in my car (which I've said several times before as well when we were negotiating prices). She goes "I'm not giving your keys back until you get your wallet." strike three. I go "...I need my keys to get my wallet in my car" She looks at me and goes "I'll come out with you to your car." We go, keys still in her hand, she tries to open my door with my apartment clicker. I'm over here thinking give me my keys!!! I tell her "those are not for my car. That's for my apartment. Please give me my keys." She goes, "I'm not giving you your keys because I don't want you to run off without paying." Strike four. I cannot believe this woman. As I am getting my wallet out from my car, I tell her how rude she has been (especially the "can you read" question) since I first came in there and that I won't run off without paying. She rushes me and we go back in. I continue to call her out and she tells me to "go back to the car shop that I came from". STRIKE FIVE. This is definitely NOT how you do business and keep customers.... I tell her I understand it's the end of the day and I understand she's tired - we're both working adults - but that is not how you talk to people. I work with kids all day and I can have patience with them, but I do not have patience for adults that act like kids. And this 60/70 year old lady was acting like a child. Sorry not sorry. I forget exactly how the rest of the dialogue went, but I eventually say that I won't be coming back again because of her. She shrugged and basically said she doesn't care. The man comes back out and I make sure to tell him I appreciated his service, but won't be coming back because of the lady. In retrospect, I don't really appreciate his service because he definitely ripped me off, as good as his intentions were. I asked for the cheapest oil, not that other stuff. I just want to add that as a female in a car shop, I am ALWAYS skeptical of what I'm paying for since I don't know much about cars. People will take advantage of that and rip me off - which is what happened anyway. I thought another female would understand that, but no. MORAL OF THE STORY: Always ask the price beforehand. The name says it all - and more! As a female, it can be "challenging" to find any trusting car service shop. I was recommended to Safety Brake by my cousin. After getting 4 "quotes" from other shops gave me verbal quotes without looking at my car, or had me leave my car and provided vary vague "solutions"...I swung by Safety Brakes in hopes for better and received all of that and more. Not only was Sal and the team respectful from the get go, they physically showed me what was going on with my breaks and rotors, what to look for, etc. They asked questions to seek to understand, and provided information in a very helpful and supportive way - unlike any other shop that often mansplains or blows smoke up your... Anyways, I was sold right away with the respect and the trust. Sal helped to explain options of repairs and products to best work with what was needed and align with my budget. Their pricing is comparable with other shops, but the customer service, knowledge, respect and information stands out by far among the rest! This it he first time in my life I do not have buyers remorse or feel stressed over car maintenance, and being a single woman on a budget - that says a lot. An honest and trustworthy mechanic shop, with great people. 06 Silverado 235k miles Issue: the truck was jerking at low speed around 10-15mph and sometimes at high speeds. The mechanic thought it was the transmission which was already going out but wasn't the issue. After replacing the transmission the owner of the shop continued to work on my truck, replacing many parts at no extra cost. He was determined to fix my truck and not charge me extra since I had paid for a new transmission to fix my issue. Push come to shove the last option was to replace the engine computer, at no extra cost. The computer was replaced and my issue seems to have gone away. Rick the owner at this shop GREAT! Every time I've taken my truck to this place it's been fixed. Highly recommend although it is not the cheapest place but you get what you pay for. read more

I recently moved to Dallas and wanted to find a reliable, trustworthy and affordable mechanic shop that I could make my go to for all my car needs. After finding Safety Brake Services on Yelp and reading their compliments by their customers, I figured this would be the perfect place for me. I initially drove over on a Thursday to get an estimate and possibly get my 2009 Honda Accord serviced after talking to the Honda dealership about needing front and rear brake replacements for an estimate of $350 plus. I was met by Rick who was super helpful and very friendly. He assured me that I only needed my front brakes changed and my rear brakes were in really good condition. Rick let me know that they were pretty busy for the day but he told me to return the following Friday for service. From there, he scanned my car's tag to order the parts so he'd have them on hand the next day. Again, Rick was helpful and knowledgeable and was super honest about my car needs. So I arrived on Friday and again Rick was there to greet me and took down my information and asked me if I wanted to wait or have Kevin (another employee) drive me home or take me somewhere locally in the company truck. I planned to catch an Uber but in the end I didn't need to. Kevin drove me over to Oddfellows where I had breakfast as I waited for my car to get serviced. If you're not from the Oak Lawn area, there are plenty of restaurants and shops to pass time. I give this place another plus just for location alone. I returned after breakfast and waited in the customer area for about 30 more minutes and after 2 hours, the mechanic was able to: - change my front brakes - change my oil - take a nail out of my rear tire and plug it - replace a rear light bulb My total was $270.15. The final balance blew my mind. Not only was the service fast but it was also really affordable. My mechanic was named David and I talked to him for a few minutes after my car was ready. He was a really sweet guy. He made sure my tire pressure light went off and didn't overcharge me for labor. David took really good care of me and I respect a mechanic like that! Overall, I can say that Safety Brake Services is thee #1 car shop in the city of Dallas. I would HIGHLY recommend these guys for any service you need for your care. HONEST. RELIABLE. TRUSTWORTHY. Come Monday morning, I called Safety Brake Service, I even asked if they could have the car towed to them and add it to the bill, which they took care of. I was thinking worse case scenario would be that my water pump would need replacing, thus more $$$. Best case would be my theromstat,.. no so much $$. It's so nice to find an honest and affordable mechanic! My wife's car needed brakes. I told myself that I would do them since I have done a few brakes jobs before. Six months later I told myself that I still had not done them and I better take the car in. I was quoted by another mechanic for $300 dollars. After reading reviews, I decided to just take it in to Safety Brake Services and that turned out to be a great choice. My reasons for 5 stars: Ed was super friendly to me. The old school kind of friendly. He offered me a ride, but I had brought reading material so he then asked me if I wanted anything and put on a fresh pot of coffee for me. Since I was sticking around, he had the mechanics pull my car in immediately so that I could at least know what to expect. He took me back and showed me exactly what I needed as well as what he recommended in addition. Since I'm in school and have no income, I just went for the necessary job and felt no pressure upon my decision. An hour and some change later, the car was ready. I got a quality brake job with quality front pads, as well as a rear brake cleaning and adjusting for just under $200 dollars. Mockingbird 75206) told my college aged daughter she needed pads and a rotor job on her front brakes--$398+ tax -- she had heard some squeaking. As she was driving back to college the following day, I needed a 2nd opinion pronto. found top ratings for Safety Brake Service on cartalk.com Mechanic Files. Called and was assured they could look at her SUV and finish the brake job that day if necessary. Her SUV was on their rack 15 minutes after we arrived. in 5 minutes the owner, Ed, told us no work was needed on her brakes.... that she had 20-50K miles left on the pads. She was still frightened, and Ed took the time to explain braking systems to her and convince her that the squeaking she was hearing was from inferior (but still in good shape) pads. It would have been so very easy for SBS to have agreed with the first opinion and pocket $400, but he did not. Interestingly, later that same afternoon my daughter was at TownNorth Mazda to replace a piece of trim that had fallen off. They performed a free "Quick Check" on her brakes, tires and transmission. Their report reflected that both front braking systems were in good shape and that the rear brakes would need to be replaced in 20K or so. You know it's a good day when you find an honest mechanic. Mechanics are fairly easy to find in Oak Cliff, but I wasn't sure which one would be trustworthy. Most of them have hand painted signs, 4 guys sitting out front, and prices advertised in 2 languages. My neighbor suggested I try Safety Brake and I was definitely impressed. They inspected my car, checked my brakes, and changed my oil and the prices were very reasonable. I thought I needed new pads because they were squealing so instead of preying on my naivete, they told me that the last place used cheap brakes and did what they could to minimize the squealing. That is so refreshing compared to what I encountered at the mazda dealership. The only negative in my opinion is that they open M-F 7:30am to 5:30pm. If you live in Oak cliff and have car troubles, definitely go here. read more

My car was leaking fluid in the garage and surging periodically. Safety Brake was HIGHLY recommended by 4 other people that I work with, and were happy with their services. I also had been to the dealership for a clicking sound and was not giving heat. The dealership's quote was SO outrageous and not affordable, so i had to wait and address the leak and surging first, and to just "deal" with the clicking and no heat. I also had a driver's side window that the switch only partially worked. I had Safety brake check out all 3 things, so i could prioritize and fix as i could afford. Safety Brake quoted me for all 3 things, INCLUDING the switch they had to get from a dealership. The quote for ALL 3 THINGS was less than what ONE repair was at the Waxahachie dodge dealership. This place was GREAT & my car was ready the same day. I cannot say ENOUGH about Safety Brake. Stay away from the Waxahachie Dodge dealership!!!! They diagnosed a problem with the clutch cylinders - a much less expensive solution than clutch replacement, which is what the first mechanic I consulted suggested would be necessary in the near future. My clutch is now functioning perfectly!! My brakes have been grinding for at least six months, and I was sure I needed to replace the rotars. I checked on yelp and found this place and several others. I called the ones with good reviews and one wasn't very friendly, the other three quoted my rotars at 80$ apiece. When I called Safety Brakes he said I won't need my drums turned until at least 120000 miles and rotars we only gonna be $40. He was very friendly and made me feel comfortable. When i arrived this morning I was immediatly helped. (no awkward moment where you wonder if your in the right place) After a brief conversation I agreed to leave my car and walk home. I live at least 7 blocks away and it is a cold morning. When I shared this with him we wouldn't hear it and gave me a ride!!! He called me 20 min later and said my rotars are ok, just needs to be turned and overall the price with tax and everything is WAY WAY WAY better than anywhere else I have called/visited/heard about. To top it all off, he offered to come get me when my car is ready... People, listen to me, take it from someone that has been ripped off too many times, you HAVE to choose this place, even if you have to drive a little. read more

Eddie and his crew at Safety Brake are the honest, efficient, exceptional mechanics who you've always wanted to find. We've been going to Safety Brake for help for years. It's not unusual for them to identify and fix a minor problem for no cost. Most recently, we needed a major repair job to the suspension of a 2004 minivan. When Eddie told us what needed to be done (replacing control rods), he warned us that the estimated labor required for the job, according to the Toyota "book," would be more than 17 hours. He said he hoped that his folks could get it done faster, and that he would only charge us for the hours actually used. Sure enough, the work got done in less than half the time that Toyota estimated. Many mechanics would have charged the full 17 hours anyway. Eddie wouldn't even consider it. On the same visit, Eddie also arranged for some bodywork to get done on the van for 20% of the cost estimated by the insurance claims folks when the fender-bender occurred. It looks great. I can't recommend these folks any more highly. read more

I've taken my car here twice now. Once in the summer to repair my A/C and again just recently to have my tail lights repaired and to figure out why the check engine light came on. I drive a 2002 Honda Civic and it has over 200,000 miles on it. I call it Betty and I need at least 1.5 more years out of her, and, if I can, 2 years would be good. So, I was worried about the light and I'm also having to recognize how maintenance costs might go up as Betty continues to age. Safety Break has been easy on the pocket book and quick in the repair. They quoted me at almost half the rate as another place to repair my A/C and it had it done in one day. They repaired my tail lights and figured out that the check engine light was nothing to be concerned about in less than 3 hours on a busy afternoon the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. I hate to be "That guy...". The one who complains within a sea of accolades but it looks like I'm the only person with anything negative to say about Safety Brake. The people were all wonderful and friendly but let's get to my story. I was referred to Safety Brake by my regular mechanic after he couldn't identify the cause of a problem with the ABS system in my wife's Mini Cooper. The ABS fuse kept blowing and the ABS, Brake, Tire Pressure and Service Engine lights stayed on.The mechanic at Safety Brake checked it out and said that they had removed the ABS module and cleaned it and let it dry, replaced the fuse and it was working fine so there would be no charge. No charge? "Really? But you spent time working on it and should be paid something." I said. He said that, since they had not replaced any parts that they could guarantee that he didn't feel right charging but if the symptoms returned, they would definitely have to replace the ABS unit. "Damn! What an awesome, honest and fair place! I thought to myself. We started up the Mini to back out of the shop and all the lights immediately returned. "Yup....It's definitely the ABS unit" the mechanic said" so we left the cooper there for them to replace the faulty ABS module. Later, they called to say that it was, in fact, not the ABS module but a corroded interior fusebox which would be about $300 for the part so I got one from eBay for $40 and took it to them, which they said would work fine. When we paid for the repair and were leaving the parking lot, the passenger side electric window would not roll down. The mechanics took it back inside and said that the regulator motor was bad and would cost $310 to replace. When we came back, paid again and were about to leave, I tried the window and it would only roll down halfway. The mechanic took it back into the garage and returned in several minutes with it working properly. Since I still had great confidence in them, I asked if they had time to check the brakes on my old (1990) Toyota pickup. The back brakes didn't seem to be working and the front would lock up and slide. They said sure and took it in. They said that it would be around $550 to do the whole job and I agreed. When they were finished the next day, I paid the $581.63 for the brake work plus a tie rod end they noticed needed replacing and left the shop to find that absolutely nothing had changed. The truck still slid in the front and had no back brakes. I made the block and took it back to the shop. They called later to say that they were pretty sure that the power brake booster needed to be replaced and would be $285 plus labor. I said OK and then a day or so after they had replaced the power booster, they called and said that, for some reason there was no pressure getting through the rear lines and that there were no back brakes at all. (Well.....yeah, that's been my complaint all along.) They said that they suspected the brake proportion valve assembly which could be pretty expensive so the mechanic was going to try to see if he could clean up the old one and make it work. It was Memorial Day weekend so they were closed until Tuesday but called Tuesday afternoon to say the truck was ready. When I got there, the new, additional bill including the power booster and a new brake proportion valve assembly and labor was $738.49. That brought the total for a brake job to $1320.12. (I'd be happy to get twice that for the whole truck) I expressed concern about the price and was quietly advised by the sweet woman at the front desk that I should ask for an estimate next time. I said " I did get an estimate....The first time when the problem wasn't fixed." I'll take the hit and move on and disassemble and check everything that was replaced, along with checking the master and slave cylinders, which is where I initially suspected the problem to be but I had hoped that, rather than having to do another brake job in the driveway in my life, I would let the professionals take care of that aggravation. Apparently that's not the case as the brake pedal is still mushy to the floor and the back brakes still only engage when I pump the pedal.I would have hoped that the mechanic would have examined all aspects of my truck's brakes and analyzed the possible problem rather than just replacing one expensive part after another until stumbling upon a solution and then made sure that the problem was corrected before signing off on it. Although they're wonderful, friendly people and the rest of their clientele sing nothing but high praises for them, I will not be using their services in future. read more

I called Safety Brakes and Rick told me to bring the car by when I had the time and they could fit me in. I dropped the car off Thursday morning and it was done by Thursday afternoon. Gabby called me a half hour after dropping my car off explaining what needed to be done and gave me a price, and let ME decide what I could afford. This is wonderful as no other place has done this before. I then received a call from Sue letting me know my car was completed and if I would be there before 5:30 to pickup; if I couldn't, they were going to lock it up in the shop. Everyone here was sweet and courteous and made me feel like I was part of the family! I will definitely be coming here for all of my repair needs. The price was great and they rotated my tires and filled them up with air at no charge, these are truly great people and have earned a new customer for life! I came in for an inspection this morning, and although the garage was almost full with cars, I didn't have to wait at all. I was in and out of there in about 15 minutes, and they also agreed to change my license plates once I received the new ones (which I took them up on later today). I'm single and from out of town. Someone local knew this guy. At 4 on a Friday, they saw me, looked at my car to diagnose a truly frightening noise, and fixed it. It turned out it was nothing--something had come off that caused the noise, but it wasn't a safety issue. He didn't even charge me for it. They have been in business since 1949 I found out later, and they have work with integrity. Let me tell you, they could have told me it was the wheel and they would have to change some bearing or something was missing and milk me-a single traveling woman. I would have never known. At home I could be picky but 3 hours from home I was desperate. They didn't take advantage of that. They are also BBB members, ASE certified, and all the important stuff that matter, but I liked them so much I'd be willing to schedule maintenance on my next trip to Dallas. Seriously top notch. I know this also from my friend who sent me there but I experienced it personally. read more

Nice guy and all but wasted my day. I called on Thursday told them what I needed done. Eddie said bring it in at 730 am and I can have it ready in a couple of hours. I work nights so morning is my bedtime but I got up and arrived at 720 am. He said it would be ready in 2 hours I go have breakfast, I walk back to the shop to pick up my car and they haven't even started on it!!! really. Now I will be late to work and exhausted. read more
