I bought my first car last weekend, and Cartopia made the process as easy as possible. I visited a…read morenumber of different used car dealerships, and had, frankly, terrible experiences with the others. I was jerked around, bait-and-switched, told that certain advertised prices were only available if I financed, and given every other run-around in the game. Then I got to Cartopia, where I was welcomed in, handed the keys to the car I was interested in (which was perfectly cleaned and maintained - honestly, it looked like a new car), and offered a test drive within five minutes of arriving. When I came back and expressed an interest in buying, Cartopia held true to the advertised price, even though I was paying in cash. Yes, there were hidden fees - not only tax and dealer fees, but also an expensive documentation fee, and a $2000 inspection fee that I still don't totally understand. But the car was so well-priced that even with those added costs, I still paid a very fair price, at or below market value. And, again, the car was spotless, inside and out, so I'm assuming most of that went to repairs or maintenance, which was done well. Most importantly, there were no hard-sell tactics, and I never felt pressured to make a purchase I wasn't comfortable with. All of this is to say: if you see an Autotrader or Cars.com listing for Cartopia, know what you're getting into, and expect to pay an extra couple thousand dollars over the list price, but you can feel comfortable that you're still getting a fair deal from decent folks.

Relax, CarMax is there for the timid offering no haggle pricing and turn-key financing that will make even the credit-challenged smile. Unfortunately, the sticker price is anywhere between five and twenty percent higher than similar vehicles available elsewhere and the interest rates are steep even for buyers with excellent credit. So, bottom-line be prepared to pay dearly for the convenience. Go in with your eyes wide open and certainly have alternative financing available through your bank or credit union. Good luck.

I received an email confirmation, which listed my vehicle model and the email/phone I used to book the appointment. When I arrived for my appointment, it was not clear even where I was supposed to go. Global had a driveup checkin for Genesis, and then another one with a Hyundai logo over it. I went in to ask where Jeep was, and was told to drive in to the Hyundai area. It was nearly a 15-minute wait in a line of cars to check in, and when I did, they could find no record of my appointment. A supervisor came out and told me they had canceled my appointment because they don't service electric vehicles. He claimed they had been calling me for days and had even left voicemail. This was not true. My phone number was clearly in the email confirmation, and no calls have been received. They also didn't bother to email me, though they had confirmed the appointment via email. They could not tell me another dealer who could service my Jeep, made no offer to assist me, just told me I had to leave. They treated me like garbage. I was shocked to learn that this fee did not include pulling diagnostic trouble codes from the vehicle. When I asked about getting the codes read, I was told there would be an additional $100 "discounted fee" just to pull them -- something that takes about 10-15 minutes and is often done for free at places like Advance Auto or offered as part of an inspection at many other shops. When I questioned the charge, my service advisor simply responded, "This is the way we do business." That was the extent of the explanation. I then asked to speak with the service department supervisor, who refused to come out of his office to speak with me at all. In the end, I used my own code reader and pulled the codes myself in about 9 minutes -- saving myself $100 and confirming how unreasonable the charge was. Between the inflated pricing, refusal to explain policies, and poor customer service from management, I do not feel this dealership offers good value or transparency. I will not be returning, and I recommend others shop around before trusting them with inspections or repairs.
