I brought a vehicle to Route 22 Honda in Plainfield for a pre-purchase inspection, which cost $229 + tax. I was shocked to learn that this fee did not include pulling diagnostic trouble codes from the vehicle. When I asked about getting the codes read, I was told there would be an additional $100 "discounted fee" just to pull them -- something that takes about 10-15 minutes and is often done for free at places like Advance Auto or offered as part of an inspection at many other shops. When I questioned the charge, my service advisor simply responded, "This is the way we do business." That was the extent of the explanation. I then asked to speak with the service department supervisor, who refused to come out of his office to speak with me at all. In the end, I used my own code reader and pulled the codes myself in about 9 minutes -- saving myself $100 and confirming how unreasonable the charge was. Between the inflated pricing, refusal to explain policies, and poor customer service from management, I do not feel this dealership offers good value or transparency. I will not be returning, and I recommend others shop around before trusting them with inspections or repairs. read more

This is now the third time my car has come back from an attempt to replace my suspension! Still hearing the same noise and having the same problem. When I gave them an exact diagnosis of what the issue was in the first place based off simple research online.... which btw is supposed to be their job to. Now my car is going to go back to the shop for the fourth time. Not sure the point to pay extra money for the fucking warranty when they can't fix the issues that it covers. Whoever is working in the shop here and whoever licensed them to be mechanics need to be looked at! Not to mention the attitude that I receive whenever I call over the phone and go to receive oil changes which I don't understand (because it is under warranty) it's almost as if they are annoyed they have to do something for free but don't remember once again.... I promptly contacted my sales representative and shared pictures of the issue. It remains unclear whether he was genuinely concerned or simply attempting to downplay my worries regarding my 2024 Honda Prologue. Given that this is a common problem associated with this model, I am uncertain why I was not informed about it prior to my purchase. When acquiring this vehicle, I expected it to be entirely reliable and safe for both myself and my young child. On Monday, April 7th, I will write an updated review regarding how this major inconvenience was managed, specifically addressing whether I was provided with a courtesy vehicle or a rental in lieu of the manufacturer's defect. If there was an option for ZERO stars, I would choose that. I contacted the dealership to discuss vehicle pricing (as I live an hour away) and the salesperson "Anthony" would not assist me AT ALL. He would only discuss pricing if I drove to them and sat to discuss discounts. In today's world (2025) there is NO reason for any human being to drive to each and every dealership to discuss pricing. I for one will never buy a vehicle from a dealership that will not work with me over the email or phone. Planet Honda, as well as, Rt 23 Honda, as well as a dealership in New York all were willing to discuss pricing and provided quotes. 2015 Toyota Rav 4 from VIP Honda I purchased this 2015 Toyota Rav 4 from VIP Honda in North Plainfield NJ on January 8th 2025. It only had 81,000 miles on it and was in excellent condition, or so I thought. I got a 1,000-mile warranty on it and was assured by the salesman that it had undergone, a "162-point inspection". I paid for the entire car that day with a certified bank check, and drove away. A few miles down the road, the TPMS light came on (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) which lets you know a tire is low on pressure. I pulled into the nearest gas station and checked the tire pressure on the four tires, all of them were good and within specification. I continued home and the next day went into a Mavis Tire place to have it checked out. I didn't go back to VIP Honda as it was about 100 miles away. The Rav 4 had 3 bad pressure sensors, so I had them replaced at a cost of $246.93, which is about the price of one bad TPMS sensor at Toyota. I was also informed that the rear wiper blade, although the body of the rubber part of the wiper was there, the blade part had come off completely some time ago, which when operated smeared whatever was on the rear window. I replaced this at a cost of $23.78. Then about 3 days after I had bought the car the weather turned cold, and the car was struggling to start, although it did start, it wasn't happy about having to accomplish that task. I did a load test of the battery, only to find it was on the border of good/bad line, and when I lifted the red positive battery terminal cover, noticed blue corrosion covering the terminal, and no protective grease on it. I spent about and hour cleaning the corrosion off and applying the grease. I was in touch with Mr. Solaso of VIP Honda, and he said they would cut me a check for the $246.93 for the TPMS sensors and $23.78 for the rear wiper, and would be putting it in the mail, and I will have it in a few days. The battery issue was not something they would re-imburse me for, or even a partial amount as I would be getting a brand new one, and this was a used car, so that's on me. No check ever arrived for the TPMS sensors and blade. All they did was send me a check for a refund on taxes, they'd over-charged me for. I bought this car from the neighboring state of New Jersey, so the plate and registration would be in the mail in a week or two to me in Pennsylvania. This was not a problem as I had a temporary plate from NJ for a month. Well, the week or two came and went, and the third week. Then when I only had a few days left on the temporary plate, I started getting concerned, and placed some worried calls to them. This was the worst part, although they had an excellent receptionist, who listened to my calls of woe, no one in their sales and license team would return any of my calls. The excuse was that they were in a meeting. This meeting lasted all day, but finally someone got back to me at the end of the day, and they said I could get a loaner car, but not a rental car. The dealership is 100 miles away from my home, and the journey there and back was on me. The plate and registration actually arrived the day after the temporary tag had expired. My tale of woe with this dealership is not over, as I went to do an oil change this week in March, 2 1/2 months after purchase. I did this because of the sloppy work they had done, so an oil change was so I could reassure myself that this was done correctly. Well, they hadn't installed an 'O' ring on the oil filter drain, how it wasn't leaking must be down to the composite material the housing is made from. Also, the oil pan drain plug had two sealing washers on it, one was a Toyota aluminum washer and one was a brass one of smaller diameter. These two washers had jammed themselves together and how this wasn't leaking as well, was also a miracle. Do not trust this dealership and its workmanship, and I'm still waiting for my check for the initial items I had to pay for, now 3 months later. read more

They sold me a car with a dead battery. I was stranded on the side of the road 3 days after I bought the car. Even jumping it wouldn't start the car the battery was so dead. I called them for help and they would not say whether or not they would cover any of the expenses. They knew the battery was bad as they likely jumped started the car for me to test drive it. No wonder they had the automatic start/stop at the light turned off and the red plastic cover off the battery. I should have been more suspicious. read more

We just pitched our new family car and had Nelson assisting us who was very pleasant and not at all pushy which was our concern with other dealerships. VIP sold me a certified pre owned Pilot that was previously owned by VIP. Told me multiple times that the vehicle was never involved in an accident and showed me the "clean" carfax. Later, after buying the vehicle, I learned that the rear impact bar and absorber were completely missing from the vehicle. I didn't know what these were but learned that they are the true components of a bumper which is a major safety feature when involved in a rear end collision. After repeated attempts to contact the GM I have yet to receive one call back. I was sold a vehicle that was completely misrepresented. These scumbags put my family's life at risk by not replacing the impact bar and absorber all to get a few extra bucks out of the deal. VIP is the lowest of the low. This is a true story and would recommend never buying a vehicle from these morally bankrupt people. read more

I had accompanied my cousins with purchasing a car for their daughter. They had seen an ad online about a deal and wanted to inquire about the car. It so happened to be some holiday event at the dealership and there was food and treats. We walk in and was greeted by an employee who wasn't too pleasant. We eventually were helped by Mark who was very friendly and helpful. We test drove one of the cars and made a decision on a car and after some negotiation we left the dealership with a brand new civic. We were very satisfied with the service and with Mark and finance with working with us on a deal to get the car. My cousins daughter was very happy with the Christmas gift of her brand new car! This is the worst Honda you can ever go to. They are never polite, the service team doesn't even give you a smile when you enter the service office, at times they don't even say hello. Some of the service team are racist towards black and hispanic customers. You take your car for service and they lie what they worked on so they can make more money. Even when purchasing a car, they put extra things in your contract totaling in thousands of dollars and whats worse is without them telling you. Watch out for fake signatures that they do without your knowledge and this happens with finance managers. I bought a new car from them. I contacted them through the US news true car program and their advertised price was the best. When I went to the dealership , I met with their sales agent KJ. they offered me the advertised price without any question. KJ even helped me get a slightly better price. I have visited quite a few dealerships in the last 3-4 weeks. This was by far my best experience. I think I could have shopped around and saved a few hundred more, but I really appreciated how KJ was not trying to force me into anything or pressuring me to do anything. So the combination of KJ + the exact car I wanted (trim + color + package) made me sign for the car. I purchased a 2018 Honda Civic in March of this year and from the very first day of get the car home my two front ports weren't working. I immediately let them know and made an appointment to come back in June. When they took it they tried to charged me to look at it just to tell me it wasn't working and this is a PRE-Certified vehicle that I just bought. They claimed to fix so I took it home , to find out with a different outlet it still wasn't working but worked on any other vehicle it was put in. Today July 1st I come back for them to try and charge me again for something that wasn't fixed in the first place but then try and tell me that because I tried to see if it worked that it's my FAULT I probabuy Blew the fuse.. seriously just so you can charge me when it wasn't working from the time i bought the car. To tell me it's my fault for checking if something I was told was fixed is broken and Is MY FAULT just BLOWS MY MIND. I visited VIP Honda in late September of 2018 when I was looking to buy a used Honda. I had a great salesman, but unfortunately, the managerial staff of the dealership ruined the experience for me. Mackenzie showed me around the lot to look at a couple of different cars. I was very impressed with him. He stayed within my price range (and never tried to upsell me) and was completely honest when it came to flaws with the vehicles. He was completely forthright and upfront about instances where cars had past accidents, damage, or when dashboard lights were on. He pointed these things out to me as I took the cars for test drives, rather than waiting for me to notice. I would have gladly bought from him since I felt he did his due diligence in trying to find me the best car VIP Honda had to offer. Before moving forward, I asked to drive a car that I thought was priced extremely cheap to my preferred mechanic. However, the dealership made me wait 90 minutes before they would let me take the car off the lot. In that ninety minutes, they reset all of the engine indicator lights. I thought that was incredibly shady; they were hoping to hide issues from my mechanic. My mechanic told me to pass on the vehicle, and I chose to look elsewhere as I continued my car search. This review is of the used department/building. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!!!! First off, any prices you see online are not sale prices, they are "prices to get people in the door" (their words). Then they said they would sell it at internet price.......but then they showed me all the hidden fees. Guess what..... that brought the price of the car back up to their selling price listed in store. They wanted $500 for the title. This is a joke. I tried to work a reasonable deal with them, but they weren't interested in anything lower. The car had been there awhile and I was ready to pay cash so you would think they would want to get rid of it, especially because the car didn't start when I went to test drive it and they had to jump it. My sales consultant, Ramon, was horrible. He insulted me and had the nerve to say that I probably would be financing because my pockets don't look that deep. His loss because I had cash ready to go. While sitting at the desk with him he even began eating a sandwich and was vaping. Talk about unprofessional. Had a great experience there! Called about a car and was able to drive off the lot in that exact car within 2 and a half hours despite it being a pandemic. Masks were required inside. They provided a print of all the fees before we signed any paperwork to ensure that we knew what everything was going to be and what the exact price was before they ran my credit. We bought a 13 year old used vehicle from VIP Honda today. VIP charges $595 Dealer Prep Fees, but don't tell you what they did in writing. The sales contract says a $300 Security Etching is optional, but the sales Manager Rich said it's mandatory. They sold the car As Is because the mileage is over 100K, no warranty, not even 30 days. We were given the CarFax. Upon closer examination the front tires were dangerously worn. They were mostly bald and the cord was showing in one spot. We insisted that allowance be made. After speaking to the General Manager a $200 allowance was made. However two new tires will cost $300. We also spoke to the Service Manager who verified that the brake pads were 1/2 worn. In addition we asked the salesman in advance to let us know what was required at closing. He never called. So we had to call our insurance company for a binder. Then they wouldn't take a check unless it was certified. So we had to go get a cashiers check at the bank. Then we had to go across US 22 to the New Car Dealership because they did have a fax machine. With a 7M old baby, 6 year old child, two parents, and two grandparents were kept waiting for hours. The lack of courtesy, hostility, the dismissive attitude about unsafe tires, and total unprofessionalism was just too much on the part of the Sales Manager in particular. I was specific in the year, model, trim, colors, options, etc. When I didn't receive a quote from them, I decided to call them. I was handed to Vanco (Sales Manager) and was promised a quote - he verified my email address back to me. Bottom line - I NEVER received a quote from anyone from VIP Honda, let alone the Sales Manager. I contacted them using their website messaging app and told them of my experience and that I would tell my friends what I experienced. I received texts stating that I must have them confused with some other dealership. They texted again, stating that I spoke with Vanco and that he gave me an "out the door" quote. HE DID NOT GIVE ME A QUOTE - he stated he would give me a quote BUT HE NEVER DID. And yes, I checked my SPAM folder and ALL MAIL folders. VIP Honda - Bad business conduct and ethics. Service dept. is terrible! Gave them a second chance after one horrible oil change experience & regret doing so. I will never bring my car here for service anymore. 1st oil change- my oil cap was left off leaving my car with oil splattered everywhere (this was after a 2 hour wait!). Wasn't even offered a free oil change or anything! Made another appt for my next oil change, thought everything went surprisingly well, only to find out on my way home, that my washer fluid was completely empty, and ALL my paperwork says all fluids were good. My family and I have been using VIP Honda for 5+ years and they have been nothing but super helpful, friendly, and willing to work with you. My credit wasn't all that great because of student loans and I really wanted a CRV. They played around with some numbers and I got the car for a reasonable price. There was only 1 left in the color that I wanted and someone else (the same day) bought it but wasn't going to pick it up till later that week. One of the supervisors and David worked it out that I got to have the color and model I wanted and they were going to get the other person who bought the car a replacement for when they come in later that week. STAY AWAY, FAR AWAY!!! I leased a 2014 Honda Civic from this dealership about 3 years ago. The end of the Lease term came up and I decided I wanted to finance through VIP Honda and take care of everything at this dealership for convenience. Unfortunately, convenience was the last thing I received. I had scheduled an appointment with the business manager in which he stated that in order to keep my monthly payments the same, I would need to put $5,000.00 down -otherwise my monthly payments would increase to nearly $100 more per month!!! OUTRAGEOUS! I, of course, said I would need to go home and look over these numbers. I scheduled a second appointment with the business manager but came back with a friend. Appointment was scheduled for 7pm on a Monday evening. I arrived 15 minutes early only to find out there were two families who had been there since early that morning negotiating/finalizing their purchases and I would have to wait. What's the point of even scheduling appointments if they will not be honored?! I left. I then decided to do some research on how these numbers came to be. Turns out when I called Honda's Corporate number, I was told that my payments had not been recorded for months! Making my end of Lease term payment higher than what it actually was. Unbelievable. I made several calls and composed many e-mails to the business manager at VIP Honda asking him to please update my information. No such luck. He absolutely avoided me and when I tried to request to speak with his boss, I was told he does not have one and "does not answer to anyone at that company." I kid you not, this is what I was told from their Customer Relations Manager at the dealership. Ultimately, I took my business elsewhere and financed through a bank for a reasonable price. There was also the constant pestering from the sales department to put me in a new car (which is expected). The entire "End of Lease Term experience" was a nightmare. Never in my life had I encountered a business which refuses to offer service to customers...which would have benefited them in the long run anyway. Farewell VIP Honda. While it was convenient to take my car for oil changes/routine inspections, I will never spend another dime at your business. Aside from your poor customer service, the notion that you scam people out of their hard earned money is deplorable. Have some integrity. read more

I wish I had read these reviews prior to signing to purchase car. As so many mentioned, I got a price on a car purchase website and then contacted VIP to confirm price and availability. When paperwork was done, there was added so many other charges it was crazy. The etching fee of 299.00 which the manager agreed to deduct. Document charges of over $400, Registration fee of over $400 and a Vehicle Preparation charge of $595. I have bought many cars and have never been charged prep charges. My recent purchase of a Ford Escape for document charge was only $141.00 and to have my registration done it was only $125.00. Not sure where VIP comes up with their charges. But it really ran the cost up. I had gotten a quote on another Honda Pilot used near where we live and they had no etch fee, no prep charge, their document fee was only $110 and new tags and registration was only $125. Of course this was in PA. A form of bait and switch. Our salesman was the only good part. Alex was a gentleman and a pleasure to deal with, but he was not able to reduce any of the added fees. Horrible and borderline criminal, a bad car dealer stereotype come to life. From being lied to about payments when I called in, to switching banks in the finance office (tried to slide in a non-Honda lease contract without telling us), to a salesman who wouldn't bother to show my wife any features on the car, it was just awful all the way around. I tried to convince her to buy somewhere else, but she just wanted to get it all done and that was our most local store. So I had to fight about the bank, the payments that were promised over the phone but not honored in store, the vehicle trim, etc. Then I had to almost force the salesperson to show her the most basic features of the vehicle, those that she was unfamiliar with compared to her previous lease, and he gave us a major attitude about it as if we were wasting his time. Oh, and they changed my contact information that they send to Honda, because they didn't want me to get a survey. How do I know that? Because the salesman bragged about doing it all the time when they thought someone might give them a bad survey. Unethical. Dishonest. And completely Nighmarish. read more

This place is a joke. I leased a 2013 Civic from here in Jan. 2014 with an agreement to get free service (oil changes, tire rotations etc). Now, I am getting the run around, and the sales woman Janet is not calling me back. She mentioned that she needs to get it re approved. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!? This was agreed upon and one of the reasons that sealed the deal. I just had to pay for my services that were promised to be included for free in my lease. I could have went to another car dealer (Ford, Toyota, Volkswagen) to name a few where this is offered and no questions asked. I will be filing a BBB complaint along with more reviews on social media. Customer service is horrible here. Avoid this place at all costs. I can wait till Dec. 2016 to turn this car back in! read more

WORST car buying experience ever. This dealership is full of sales people who lie and cheat customers. They called and assured me that the specific model I was looking for is available and I can come down to the dealership to buy the same. I drove all the way and the first thing the salesperson says that I don't have that car. He says but I have another car in the same trim that he can sell to me. I said ok show me that one - he goes to check and comes back and says he does not have that car too. SERIOUSLY?! Are you high or what? I was very frustrated by then as I had told them that I have to drive a long way and I would only come if the car that I am looking for is available. And above that he is trying to sell another model to me and that too at a high price! Very frustrating and stressful experience it was! RUN AWAY as far as you can from this dealership!! read more

Dealt with the internet salesman for a week, and set up an appointment to come speak with him. Got to the dealership and told them who I was there to see. The guy never came out, so I told the other salesman why I was there. Next thing I know a manager that I could barely understand and was very curt tells me that the quote I got from another dealership was ridiculous and that I should go there, and see myself there's no way those prices were real, and then come back to VIP. So he basically called me a liar, didn't even try to work numbers, and said that was the bottom line, sign and drive, and that's all he could do for me. I walked out & immediately emailed the internet salesman about what had happened. He claims he didn't know I was there and then says, oh, well I'm sorry for your bad experience.... I will never go here again. I went on a recommendation of a friend that purchased the same vehicle a month before. I'm sure she will never recommend them again! I'm giving this place 2 stars because we love the car and had a positive experience while we were there but unfortunately, as soon as we drove off the lot, the customer service went to sh*t. We're a military family and had a limited time in Jersey to get the car, it wasn't an issue at all and we were assured we'd get everything in time without a hassle. We drove cross country with a temp registration- no problem. The issue is the registration is about to expire and we have not heard a word from the dealership. Every time we call we get voicemail or "I'll have him call you back as soon as possible" well ASAP apparently never comes. It's been 2 weeks now and no response for our 4 messages. When we spoke to the DMV rep they hadn't even received any record of our purchase! What is this?! Long story short, awesome car, but sketchy, unprofessional and awful customer service after we drove away. read more
