This is the most picturesque grocery store ever!! But seriously, besides offering something for everyone, including a high end grocery store with all local goods, there is also a sandwich shop that makes to order your delicious meal using ingredients from the grocery store. And of course, they have the best apple cider around. Parking was also easy and they have a huge lot. There was not a long line at all and after about 10 minutes, we got our order There is ample seating inside but it was such a nice day we sat outside at the picnic style tables. There were only a few others there and we had a great view of the valley and golf course across the way. My Macoun sandwich, which consisted of pastrami and swiss, along with their sauce, was great! I wish the bread was a bit softer, but not a big deal. read more

Oh Lyman's how I love you. Let me count the ways I love your twisty and windy roads that take you up and around your huge property where each turn leads you surprise after surprise I love that I can come here any time during the Spring, Summer and Fall and be able to pick blueberries, peaches, necterines, pears, apples and pumpkins. I love that you have become a yearly tradition for my husband and I. Fall is not complete without a trip to Lyman's to pick "the perfect apple" I love that there is nothing better picking your fruit, paying for it and then being able to have some of the freshest produce ever to touch your lips. Fruit right off the branch - yes please! I love the views of the Connecticut country side I get when I come to Lyman's. I love that they have been able to expand their business into some great agro-tourism for families of all ages I love that even if I did not want to pick my own fruit (although that is quite silly) I can head over to the farm store stocked with not only fruit but local produce, food stuffs AND apple cider donuts. I love Lyman Orchard - it's as simple as that! read more

Some of the best apple cider donuts in Connecticut! I don't really recommend going on the weekends, it's a mad house! But if you can only get there on a Saturday don't let the busyness scare you! They never run out of donuts and cider! There are many fun activities during the fall. Pumpkin picking, corn maze, horse rides, kettle corn, and don't forget apple picking! Extremely family friendly and a great fall outing! read more

Went strawberry picking today, employee at booth said its toward end of season. She should have stated berry picking was a waste of time becauseTHERES NO STRAWBERRYS LEFT, AND WHAT IS LEFT IS ROTTED OR ANIMALS HAVE EATEN IT. Paid $8.00 for a quart container and was able to find 7 small berrys that were not damaged. read more

Went strawberry picking last week! Excellent and plentiful ... went to their shop for lunch afterwords and it was delicious

The pies are A.MAZ.ING! Especially the blueberry :-)

I was pleasantly overwhelmed here. What a fun store! So much good food, between fresh baked desserts to an entire rack of local cheese to another rack of local chocolate. I was just having a blast running around here in wonder. I felt compelled to buy a bacon egg and cheese sandwich, which was really solid (I didn't really prefer the soft roll, but for what it was it was really enjoyable). I didn't explore much outside but it seems like a fun fall destination. I'd love to come back soon! read more

Absolutely love this place! We come every year for apples and donuts! We picked up pumpkins and cider this year too. Sunflower maze was amazing! Such a fun kid friendly weekend activity. The maze took about 30/45 min to complete, (we took many pictures) Trivia questions were given to help navigate the maze. After completing the maze I went across the street and picked about a pound of peaches. Would recommend going to the market! They have an abundance of fresh fruit and Vegetables as well as some of the best apple cider donuts I've had! read more

Well we just got four ears of Lyman's "native" corn, but it's not native to Connecticut. The corn was old and starchy so at $.89 an ear, you're much better spending a small portion of a gallon of gas and make a trip to Geramia's down off Rt 68 in Wallingford for genuine native corn they claim comes from Enfield. At $5 per half a dozen it's comparably priced and TONS better. read more

We stopped here while passing through Connecticut to stretch and get some fresh air. My kids loved running through the rows of berries in their quest for the best ones. Overall a great experience, pretty fair pricing, a bit confusing trying to navigate the area, we picked raspberries and blueberries and raspberries wanted to stop for ice cream but never figured out where to go. Also couldn't find any facilities (restrooms). read more

We go every year & always enjoy ourselves. It can be a bit overwhelming, specifically inside The Apple Barrel. Long lines and dodging children running everywhere. We always pick a pumpkin or two, they can be a little pricey. Always, always grab apple cider, kettle corn & a dozen apple cider donuts- the best!! We typically aren't there too long, as it seems there aren't a lot of options for adults. We did do the corn maze one year, which was fun... But not thrilling enough to want to do it again. The majority of the entertainment seems to be directed towards children. read more

There are few things better than fresh picked fruit, a delicious bakery and a great deli. Lyman has it all. It's so fun to spend a few hours picking apples or strawberries and buying some treats at the Apple Barrel. It's a beautiful place! They even serve an AWESOME breakfast on the weekends from summer to early fall so definitely give it a try. But the true beauty is within their apple cider donuts. Lyman Orchards is more than just a farm. It's a full-blown afternoon's (or day's!) worth of experiences. I can't wait for fall because that's when they pull out all the stops--hayrides, corn maze, food trucks and fall decor galore! When it's not fall, there's still plenty to do. If dining on a deck overlooking the grounds tickles your fancy, you're in for a treat! Lyman's offers an al fresco breakfast experience to kick off your day. Spend an hour perusing the plethora of goods at the Apple Barrel, their on-site grocery (and more!) store. Drool over and then stock up on some of the breads and pastries from their bakery case. Marvel at the varieties of fruit jams and jellies from their specialty foods aisle. Take some of their best-selling pies home for your next special occasion. Then, get all your grocery shopping done courtesy of the farm's very own fresh-picked fruits and vegetables. Lyman's truly has it all! Pro tip: A lot of their fruit is cheaper if you pick it yourself! I find fruit-picking fun! I would encourage you to go online or call ahead to find out what's in season. Their hotline is available 24/7 and can provide you with all the varieties and pricing for the day! The campus is large, but if you keep your eyes peeled for signs, you'll be on your way in no time. There are usually a few different varieties of a fruit as well, so you can really take your time in choosing your fruit. The best part about fruit-picking is that you can eat as much as you want while you're there! I know I had at least 2-3 pieces while there. The rest is taken home at a per pound rate. If you're looking for a way to experience New England, a farm visit is a must and Lyman's would be the ultimate place to do it! The fruit I take home from here is always phenomenal. I'm sure I'll be back as soon as it's time for pie-baking season! read more

i will buy no other cider , the pies are always magnificent and the rest of the bakery goods are amazing.

I can't believe I live only 20 minutes away & never been here before today. I wanted to go Apple picking and I'm glad my coworker suggested this place. The staff up at the orchard were very friendly & helpful. We made our way down to the Apple barrel and had a nice breakfast sandwich, delicious! The coffee was so gooood!!!! I bought cider donuts, kettle corn, and a bunch of other gourmet items! This is a place that I must return to and buy pies for the holidays! Next year I'll have to get out there early enough to pick peaches too! read more

It was great the grocery store was fun the food was delicious, apples were good, it was worth it

We went to the orchards (pick your own-105 South Street) and it appears that there multiple locations around the same area that you can go and pick from. We got the 1/2 satchel for $40, instead of the smaller bags, which my 4 children would've filled within the first 10 minutes of walking. We walked, talked, sampled a few apples, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Well worth the money and time spent. We have apples to share and use, that'll last for a long time. Definitely recommend, and if we didn't live so far away, we'd come back soon. read more

I have been visiting Lyman Orchards for the past 3 decades and had no idea that they did brunch!! I visited with my (very pregnant) friend on Sunday morning. She went for the grilled donut and I got a breakfast sandwich. Both were delectable and wallet-friendly. It's unseasonably warm so sitting on the deck was glorious... until the bees took over and we had to take shelter inside. This is a spot I am definitely adding to my brunch rotation. You can get some grocery shopping done and enjoy some delicious food. Perfection. read more

Did not go fruit picking but wanted to see what they had in the store. I was impressed with the selection of produce and baked good. Since I went later in the day, the cinnamon apple cider donuts were all gone but I did manage to get my hands on their award winning Hi Top Apple Pie. It was absolutely delicious along with some of their coffee and strawberry ice cream. I also picked up and tried their various fruit preserves and a chocolate bomb cake, all of which did not disappoint! read more

I absolutely love this place. It's hands-down my favorite orchard in the area. If you're in the mood for apple picking, pumpkin picking, a corn maze or some really good apple cider donuts, this is your place. The market they have inside is delicious. They have fresh apples and vegetables, frozen meals, fresh bakery items and homemade jams, butters, etc. They also have a good service area selling Mac and cheese, different sandwiches, salads, etc. Their pulled pork sandwich was to die for! They have very minimal seating inside, and it's always packed, but they have a ton of picnic tables outside. They also have a kettle corn stand and a cider area outside too. The corn maze was a little expensive for a corn maze, but they make it fun and interactive and it's always a different design every year. This year was a nascar theme and last year was football. If I remember correctly, all the proceeds go to charity, so it's worth it. The grounds are just so nice here and it's such a relaxing way to spend a fall day. Good for Instagram pictures too. Also, they have a really nice golf course for when it's nicer out. read more

Lyman Orchards is a great farm outside of NYC. I liked how you can call their "hotline" for that day's updates and produce forecast. Beats waiting till they open and calling to see if they are opened. Pick Your Own: Right now they have raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries. We picked strawberries ($23 for 4 quarts) and blueberries ($6 for a quart). I like that we get to pay one set price instead of by the pound. When we went there was a promotion, where you get a free small soft serve ice cream cone with each receipt. The Pick Your Own farm area only has Porta Potties. Pro tip: If you are buying multiple buckets/trays, pay separately so you can get multiple coupons for the ice cream. Lunch: We had lunch at the marketplace, and sat outside by the pond. The tables were socially distant from each other. We enjoyed the food and our ice cream outdoors. Marketplace: You can buy a bunch of goodies to go! We couldn't believe there were three kinds of apple cider donuts to pick from (old fashioned, cinnamon sugar, and glazed)! We bought 4 of each (a dozen to share). Our other goodies included a peach blueberry tart, almond butter crunch cookies [amazing!!!!], salsas galore, and of course apple cider! The marketplace has "real" restrooms. COVID Precautions: The staff all wore masks / face coverings. There was a hand washing station next to the Porta Potties in the Pick Your Own farms. There was also hand sanitizer and wipes at the entrances of the marketplace. Unfortunately, not all guests wore masks. As the website recommends, go on a weekday (early morning, or before they close) to avoid the crowds. read more

Fantastic bakery on site, and the whole store always smells like cider donuts because of it. Amazing! I love that they have a ton of their own fresh picked fruits for sale inside the market as well as a looooong wonderful pick-your-own season outside that changes with the weather. It's such a great place for taking stunning landscape photos and an excellent (less-obstructed) view of the sky especially when the stars are out. My family's been coming here since before I can remember, so now it's become my favorite place to shop in autumn especially: I've been known to stock up on my family's favorite hot pepper jellies for Christmastime. :) read more

This place is an absolute commercial joke. Pulled into the area with the store and it was like a circus, I had to fight to get to the bathroom and then couldn't even get out of the bathroom because people wouldn't move. We left there quickly and spent 15 mins waiting to get up the hill to the Pickin' Patch only to find it was small and seriously lacking. Definite waste of time, and if I ever want to go to an orchard, I'll drive down to Norwich over going only the 15 mins here. read more

Lyman Orchards - That's it? Seriously? Yeah no thanks. - Fruits & Veggies Near Me - Middlefield, Connecticut

I used to bring my family here every year due to it not be a commercial zoo or tourist trap but I am sad to say that it is no longer that. It is now super commercial and very crowded. You purchase a bag for the apples and as many as you can fit in there is what you get. They used to weigh what you picked and you pay for what you pick. Pumpkins are still on the vine which is exciting to actually pick you own pumpkin as a lot of the recent pumpkin places we have been to just have them one grass. Pumpkins are pay per lb here but be careful if you get a large pumpkin you have to lift it almost over your head to give to the staff in the weighing booth. They also have a corn maze and an apple cannon. My son enjoyed the apple cannon you pay for a basket of apples and it lets you shoot them out of a cannon to try and shoot targets. The apple barrel is the store and has some great items but the crowd was such an over kill that it makes you want to leave. We waited for cider and donuts and headed out They have parking at each area of pick you own They take credit card everywhere and every station Bathrooms were clean and porta potties are offered in the fields read more

For years Lyman Orchards has maintained consistency both in the Apple Barrel, and within the Orchard itself. When it's pick your own season, I am there at a minimum of twice a month. You can't beat freshly picked fruit, not only do you get to chose your combinations of fruit and their ripeness, but they also last twice as long as anything store bought. What I like about Lyman Orchards is its size, the variety of "pick your own", the cleanliness and design in the Apple barrel, and the all of the events they have throughout the year. You don't have to worry about going with a group, because there is always something for everyone. If you don't like to "pick your own", you can go to the Apple barrel, grab a coffee or drink and sit by the pond. You could also walk around the shop. Or depending on the season walk through the corn maze! The one disappointment is always the food they sell on the outside patio "Breakfast on the deck". I've tried it numerous times, and have always been left disappointed. The food had been flavorless, bland, and somehow served by the time it was already cooled. On the other hand their bakery is wonderful and their sandwiches are pretty good. I've decided to stick with the indoor menus option and then take what ever I purchase and eat it near their cafe or take it on the patio for some relaxation. Some key takeaways: * They do take cards at the pick your own pay stations!! * Stay current on future events they are having. I highly suggest their apple crisp or apple festival they have in the fall (not too sure of the name). Last year they had ice sculptures, apple cider, pony rides, sleigh rides, and the star of the show delicious apple crisp * Stay hydrated. They do sell bottles of water and sometimes cider at each of the pick your own pay stations * Complete your trip with a visit to the Appel Barrel for their apple cider donuts, you won't forget it * Their frozen pies are great for any occasion and hold well in the freezer. read more

Definitely a quintessential CT spot. A great destination for some family fun! Their pick-your-own fruits selection is decent. You'll find apples, pears, pumpkins and more without a problem. It can get really busy in the fall, so plan for off-hours if you're trying to avoid crowds. They also offer fresh baked pies, apple cider donuts, muffins, cookies, breads, pastries and desserts for sale too. Don't be surprised if you catch some sort of party going on while you're there. Lyman Orchards/Homestead is a popular venue for weddings, celebrations, and all types of social occasions. They also host annual events like the Strawberry Festival (June), Clambake (August), Sunflower Maze (July-August), and the Corn Maze (August-November). Pricing is very reasonable, so there is little wonder why this place is always packed! read more

My wife and I stretched our limbs and made the journey to Lyman's Orchard to do the corn maze. We ended up going through the apple orchards and check out the juicy apples. I had never done this part of Lyman's before, so I was in for a surprise. The Apple trees were small. I used to have Apple trees, cherry trees, two kinds of pear trees, gooseberries, blackberries, corn, grapes, blueberries, tomatoes, and raspberries. So when I say the Apple trees were small, I know what I'm talking about. Half the apples were rotting on the trees, or rotting around the trunk of the trees. We picked up a bag expecting to pick us some apples but ended up walking around the grounds sadly disappointed. I wanted to be wowed, but got just the opposite. The apples were small. I wouldn't have bought them in the supermarket, and they were fetching $1.65 a pound which I found steep for the apples I had to pick from. Maybe if I had gone to the store, and got the best pickings, I might have been a happy camper, but I didn't do that. Maybe next time. read more

Lymans is a great place to bring your family. Bring your kids to pick fruit in the summer and fall, they will love it. It will tire them out lol. Depending on the season they have a sunflower maze or corn maze. The apple barrel sells my favorite progies, progie Queen progies. Howerver, the progies are very overpriced at 8.69 condsidering you can go to the pogie queen store and buy them for 6.99. For some reason they close for about 50 days. Kinda scares me about what they do with some of their products during that time period. Also, the line for deli sandwiches and wait is crazy. They need a better system. Maybe more of a sit down restaurant would work.. Just to add an update, for the pick your own. The strawberrys were very small in June. The blueberries were good in july/August. The pricing seemed reasonable. And just last weekend, we went apple picking. We went to the apple barrel first to get some breakfast and saw a tote bag for 2.49, that said pick your own on it. We bought the bag thinking we could use it to you know pick your own apples? Well we got to one of the pick your own apple areas and the worker said they dont allow that bag at this stand only the other stand and said we have to buy one of these 3 bags. We got the medium sized bag, it cost us 17 dollars you pre pay. We overfilled it and i weighed it when I got home it was about 10lbs. Gottas farm in Portland charges a $1 a pound for apples. Almost half the price. Sorry Lymans. This is getting out of hand now. read more

Very disappointed by their July 4th "barbecue" that turned out to just ordering barbecue at their regular deli inside. Supposed to be 11-3 but by 1 they were "out" of brisket and potato salad. Ice tea was bottled and super suit. The pulled pork was dry and but chewy and has NO barbecue flavor to speak of. I went back inside and found out the had barbecue sauce but neither the order taker nor the server had asked whether I wanted any. It was just ok. Music was decent. I would have been embarrassed had I invited friends along. read more

I only go to an apple orchard for three reasons: apple cider donuts, fall vibes and fresh apples (in that order). The donuts here are absolutely phenomenal, and if you're lucky enough to get them warm, you are in for a sublime bite. They are fried and crispy on the outside and covered in cinnamon sugar. I love the soft apple cider dough on the inside and it provides a nice textural contrast. I dream about these donuts all year and make it a point to come at least once during the fall to get my donut fix. The orchard itself is very cute; they have a small fountain in a pond with the spectacular backdrop of the foliage, a corn maze (so much fun!) and they even make their own hard apple cider, which ai have to try next time. Their apples are of course delicious too! Highly recommend spending a day here read more

It's a great place, truly, but I feel like people need to know about the total lack of air conditioning there this summer- the Apple Barrel is hotter and stuffier than it is outside if that can be imagined- just wanted to inform people in case it's a safety issue that would make some change their plans (like with babies or elderly) read more
