My regular salon could not take me so I took the recommendation of Luxury Nails from a Clawson resident.
It took me a long time to find a good nail tech (in Bloomfield) and I was nervous because I was headed out of town to a very posh wedding.
ACRYLIC SERVICE:
I wanted a full set of acrylics ($25), a soft color on the nails and neon color on the toes. They had a decent selection of both in regular polish.
I was pleased that they took me as a walk-in, I had to wait a long time, but it was Friday, that's understandable. They have a large number of returning clientele -for good reason!
You can call for an appointment.
PEDICURE SERVICE:
A very quiet guy did my toes. He was very thorough. It was nice not to have to chat with him. The pedicure left my feet looking soft and feeling soft, and it lasted a l ittle more than two weeks.
Another tech did my nails. Both came out wonderfully. Very pleased for a first time visit.
SHELLAC SERVICE:
The second time I went was on a Monday mid morning (my regular salon had a 2 hour wait with 3 techs... not my regular salon any more!) so I drove the 10 miles from Bloomfield to Clawson as a walk-in. They started my service immediately.
I wanted the acrylics removed and shellac applied on the fingers and regular polish on the toes.($40). I took the techs recommendation to have the acrylics chipped off rather than soaking. That worked out.
They have the best shellac color selection I've ever seen! About 6 rings of colors to choose from.
They have shellacs in everything from very soft, almost unnoticeable colors to bright neons.
My nails look like a picture. They are clean, cuticles are cleanly lined, the nails are perfectly shaped and polished to perfection.
THE SHOP:
There are at least 6 nails techs on the floor (my old place had 3 maybe 4).
They have at least 6 pedicure chairs, as opposed to 2 or 3 like other shops.
The shop does not feel over crowded.
They do their best to get to you as quickly as possible. They are friendly.
Beverages and snacks are offered to clients coming in the shop. That's a nice touch.
There are two movie screens to watch movies to past the time (they even ask what you'd like to watch when a show ends).
The place is clean, busy most of the time and the atmosphere is upbeat, a little noisy with one of the guys singing random songs and constantly making comments about news, TMZ segments, etc. This is NOT your meditative spa experience. More like a girls' night out.
I think I will make this my regular medi/pedi salon. So far, I'm pleased.
UPDATE
Beware of Mom:
So, I've returned on two separate occasions, both times involved getting a polish change on my toes. The owner's mother performed the service each time. Both times she left obvious polish on the toes and was proceeding to paint over the old polish (I pointed it out and she removed it -both times). I can only think that she can't see very well, since she's right upon the feet, with eyeglasses. I could see the polish that remained while sitting up in the chair. Both times the polish on my toes did not last a day. Such a waste of money! That is SUPER frustrating.
Honestly, this has soured me towards the salon. I'm not so willing to make the drive now. I actually revisited my old salon for my last shellac. When the other tech performed the service I had no problem. So, get your monies worth and beware of 'mom'. Next time, I will just wait for one of the younger techs. read more
