The initial reason I chose Lux was based on the safety of my pet. Their system relies on 2 doors, only one can be opened at a time. So, you ring the bell, Brenda, the groomer presses a button which allows you to enter an enclosed area between the 2 doors. Once door #1 closes securely. door #2 is open for access to the interior. I had called a number of grooming companies, none offered this type of system, all were on really busy streets. In addition, your pup is usually groomed in less than 3 hours. Brenda, the groomer, is phenomenal. She grooms to match the breed and will match to any specific instructions. Mine are always to shave the beard typical on the breed, I simply do not like it, Brenda shaves the beard. The service is outstanding. read more

The dog walkers are filthy. I see them walking the dog pack frequently in the Hyde Park Stony Brook Reservation area. Dogs poop, but the walkers just leave the piles there. The excuse is it's not where you walk. They should clean up the poop and take it out of the woods with them. read more

I brought my dog to Luxe Pet Resort to be bathed and groomed. I was immediately told by the receptionist that I was thirty minutes late and my appointment was canceled. I showed her the text message I sent to the groomer asking if I could come a half hour later. The groomer replied "Sure can!" The groomer came out, looked at my dog and told me that he was badly matted and that she would just shave him. I said I didn't want that. She said she was sorry and walked away. If she had told me I would have to pay more, I would have. If she told me that I had to bring him back a second time in order to finish the job, I would have. Instead, she let me walk out the door. Luxe has facilities there to groom your dog if you want. They didn't even offer that. Customer service in the US is in the toilet. Luxe is a good example of poor service. Sad. read more

My 15 pounds dog got injured on the head while staying in the daycare here. The staff there didn't even see what happened. My dog got a big cut on the head and was infected badly. We took him to the vet the next day, he got two staples on the had to help heal. He was in pain and could not sleep for the first couple nights even with pain killer vet gave us. When I called the manager in Luxe Pet Resort, he did not apologize at all, just say things happen, and they will pay for the vet bill. What he did not realize is that things like this won't happen if they actually do Separate dogs by sizes and weights as they advertised on the website. They mix large breeds and small breeds together without close supervision. The sad thing is they don't think it's a problem. My dog got a small cut in the ear before this. My neighbors' dog went there and came back limping. We will never send our dog there again, and advise everyone to think twice before sending yours. read more

I decided to check out Luxe a few months after adopting my dog. This was my first dog ever, and she can be very shy and skittish, so I was nervous about trying daycare and boarding. But I knew I'd need these services occasionally, so I scheduled a temperament test and gave Luxe a try. I am so happy I did. On her first day of daycare and first night of boarding, I was kept informed as to how she was doing. I feel like the folks here care and treat her well. They also were accommodating when I had a recent need for last minute boarding, which was a huge help given my circumstances. This place came recommended. I never boarded my cat before , I had mixed feelings about doing so. They require multiple tests before you can even get your cat in the door. ( my cat is an indoor cat always) They place the cat in a small boxed in , bare space. They require you bring your own food. They only consider taking the cat out for additional 12 dollars a session in their in door jungle. My cat was close to a week , they only reported taking him out once. Most at the front desk /,staff are indifferent. There is no welcome wagon here. I'm keeping my cat home or with family. They appear to treat dogs differently. read more

Our three dogs and now 2 have been going to LuxePet for over 5 years and have boarded there on numerous occasions. The staff are all very friendly and the dogs have a lovely time. Our youngest goes on hikes three times a week and has a whale of a time. The team are super helpful to us and we appreciate all that they do and how they have helped us over the year! Luxe is so fantastic that it's hard to describe. I've now had 2 different dogs, who have spent lots of time there. Both were/are challenging in many different ways. Not only has the staff been responsible, kind and understanding, but they take the time to tell me if any problems arise. (Hardly any do.) My current dog also goes on hikes, and he (and I) couldn't be happier. In my years of going there, I find that some people with huge issues themselves are customers. Our kitten had her 1st visit for a 3-night stay. We were worried how it would go since other places we have used were disappointing. All of the staff, from booking to check-out were friendly and courteous. Our kitten was clean, nice smelling, well fed and happy at pick up time! This place is amazing!! I was going on a last minute trip to a friends house in ATL and had to take my dog with me on the plane. My dog was sooooo dirty I was scared he would "offend" other passengers . So I was in quite a pickle!!! I took my dog to Luxe at 830am with no appointment for a quick bath. The staff there were so helpful and even thought they were understaffed that day, they took the time to show men he facilities and how to operate all of the machinery. They had the best attitude and were super helpful and understanding! They said they would have even done it for me, as a grooming, if it wasn't for the fact they had no staff to properly care for the dog. I was impressed with the service and the facilities! Good luck trying to actually get daycare services. They are perpetually booked so having a prepaid package does not guarantee you can actually get services. They do not have cameras set up so you can watch your pup virtually, which is pretty standard for pet daycare. They do not sufficiently monitor the dogs. I let them know my dog had food allergies and gave them special food for him. He came home with diarrhea. read more

This place likes to take a certain kind of dog- think quiet small poodle mixes. In fact, they screen for them (see the other review here where they refused a pit bull without even seeing her). If your dog is in any way outside the "norm" they refuse to work with you. This seems odd but it would make sense if their staff is inexperienced, have no professional training on animal behavior, and don't like all dogs. It also explains why the place looks empty, much of their space is unused, their super expensive rates, and why the place always smells like urine and poop. I wouldn't be surprised if this place was in the red because it appears to be failing. My dogs have been here several times for daycare without a problem. One of my dogs is a nervous rescue. They know that and it is all over his intake form. I scheduled both dogs for a bath and premedicated my rescue knowing that this would be a new experience for him. Within 3 minutes of dropping them off, the staff called me in a panic saying that my rescue bit one of them. I returned to pick up my dogs and this very prissy girl named Nicole (who may be the owner) shows me her hand. There is no broken skin and no area of redness. She says "I went to take off his collar and he bit me. Thank god I was wearing a sweatshirt. We can't take either of them here for daycare moving forward." And that was that. End of story. No understanding- just out you go. I didn't even stay to try to reason with her. She was clearly frustrated and didn't like her job. I am not condoning my dog biting anyone but how did she handle him? Did she even review his intake form before reaching out to remove his collar? He has had years of training to overcome his abuse and will never bite unless threatened. Also, my other dog didn't do anything and she was kicked out too. As an addendum, I want to mention two other peeves I have had with this place. 1. They kept a $250 deposit on planned 5 day boarding because I did not cancel within 7 days. 2. I had wanted to bring my dogs in for 1/2 day of daycare (=4 hours) and a bath. They insisted that the aforementioned baths would be scheduled only during the 4 hour window of daycare. read more

After a really bad experience at a different boarding and daycare facility (you can find my review here), I was apprehensive to leave my dog anywhere ever again. Luxe came highly recommended by someone I used to work with who used both daycare and boarding, and also a friend whose dog is there daily for daycare, and boards during long trips. I took a tour beforehand, and asked a ton of questions, all of which were answered. I have used both daycare and boarding at Luxe, and have been quite pleased with my experiences. My dog is always happy when he gets there, and can't wait to get in the front door; he is also a happy, tired pup when I pick him up. There is a new, convenient online reservation system, which I love, and making reservations for daycare guarantees that the facility will have enough staff on hand for the number of dogs they have on a particular day. Everyone is always super helpful in giving me updates when I call or email, which helps ease my mind when I occasionally have to travel. When I suggested that he might have an easier time eating if he has company (he tended not to eat when boarding), they made sure to stay with him during mealtime. I am so happy to find a place I trust with my dog - thank you Luxe! [Regarding the comments of 10/23/2019 from "M s." who said that the staff must be inexperienced because be business won't take pit bulls, that's ridiculous. Very upset by this place! My dog is a lab mix, per all of her paperwork. Took her in for their temperament test and the man claimed she looked too "Pitty" and refused to even meet her! She is the sweetest friendliest dog who loves to play and they wouldn't even consider her cause of their judgement of her looks. That's not a temperament test, that's judging a book by its cover. We have been sending our dogs for hikes through Luxe Pet Resort and she has the best time! She is so excited to get dropped off there and comes home super tired. They send a really sweet "report card" with pictures from the day, a map, and a little note about how the walk went! So happy with our experience here. read more

This place is quite expensive but it is fun for the dogs, super clean and the staff is always friendly. We take our mid-sized puppy 8 month-old there once a week or every other week, and have used them to board her three or four times. The dog absolutely loves it: she starts her excited barks as soon as we pull into the parking lot, and drags me into the front door, tail wagging. She comes home happy and very well exercised. They keep good tabs on what she's eating and if she seems to be doing well with other dogs. We've had some minor grooming done there, and the groomer is wonderful; they also give terrific baths that leave your dog smelling great. They little cubicles they use for boarding are quite large -- much larger than the large crate our dog sleeps in at home -- and they all have an elevated dog bed. They are strict about the vaccination requirements, so the first time you go make sure you ask them to send you the list of shots your dog will need. And it makes perfect sense to me that they require dogs be neutered/spayed. You've got to figure out for yourself if the price is worth it for you, but from my perspective I feel a lot better sending my dog here than several other places I looked into that are nearby but dirty or have a reputation for getting your dog sick or having them come back scared. read more

Worth the trouble to go through their thorough evaluation of your pet and paperwork requirements. My dog is always happy to go, satisfied to come home and expertly treated. His groomer couldn't be more attentive and gentle and I feel confident each pet my dog encounters during his stay has been as rigorously evaluated as he has. Writing this review for cats. I think this offers great space for cats to stay in while owners are away. The prices are reasonable and there are different tiers for the type of "villa" that your cat(s) stay in. I keep our girl in the deluxe aquarium villa when we go, giving her some entertainment with a tank of tropical fish as her window. There is also a jungle room option where the kitties can go on a per-hour basis (only $8/hr) to have more room to run and climb and just relax with more space. They do cater to special needs cats, but they don't take in any pets with communicable diseases (or those that have had one in the past 30 days). Vet records are taken, and it's a rather safe and healthy environment. I love the options, the people, and the location. Worth every penny. Five stars! read more

My dog got sprayed by a skunk and after three attempted washes in the backyard with freezing cold water, I decided to go to the self dog wash station here. I walked in and casually mentioned she got sprayed three days prior (and again, had multiple baths already). They told me they weren't allowed to let dogs who got sprayed in the washing station "because it would stink". FYI: it's a doggy daycare/boarding, the whole building smells like stinky dogs. The staff assessment test to determine if she was allowed to wash was if they could smell her; they had to bend down and get an inch from my dog's head to smell her. I'm not really sure what the point of a dog washing station is if some dogs are deemed too dirty/stinky. Don't waste your time going there if you have a dirty/stinky dog, they may say your dog is too dirty/stinky to get into a self dog washing tub. read more

I think the true test of a daycare is how your dog acts when you drop them off and my dog Wally absolutely loves it here. He can't wait to get in the door every time we pull up. I have also had nothing but wonderful experiences with the staff. Everyone is so helpful and friendly. The only downside is the prices but it feels worth it since my dog is so happy there. read more

I have to say, I'm shocked that there would be any negative reviews for Luxe. We have used them for daycare, overnight boarding, and grooming, and I can't speak more highly of the facility or their staff. My dog literally pulls me in there and tries to push the doors open himself when we get there. Yes, there have been some new faces recently, but that's only b/c they've finished building up their staffing. Anytime I've been there, the place is clean and smells great, and the dogs always seem like they're having a great time. The overnight suites (no cages anywhere!) are cleaned every day, and you can bring in toys and snugglies from home. For grooming, Rebecca is awesome. She listens to what you want and even sends you home with a report card and treats. Again, yes, their prices are not cheap. But they are very comparable to any other place in the city, if not cheaper, and I have no problem paying a little extra knowing my dog is always happy and safe there. Just wish I could afford to let him play there every day! read more

Awful place my vet recommended pet luxe and so didn't a few friends. Went to drop off our bulldog @1:30 pm and they left him in the yard to long overheated him and he was unresponsive. An attendant called me at 4:00 pm. Said she was sorry that he was overheated unresponsive and they now have him inside but he won't let them near him. I was told to come and pick him up immediately and they would no longer board him. This is a place that is suppose to be equipped to handle animals, who leaves a bulldog never mind any dog outside in 90 degree heat for 3 hours. Complete morons and glad that my bulldog left the facility. I don't think he would have been alive when I returned from my trip. Along with all of the other hoops they made you go through and needless to say they are not able to do their own jobs. Run and never take your dog there!!!! read more

Luxe is the only place I trust with my dog Murray. He has been going to Luxe since he was five months old (he's now 2). The staff always knows him by name the second we walk in. Murray goes in the back with the staff and doesn't even turn around to say bye to us because he's so excited! Their screening process of potential boarders is fantastic and makes sure that all animals are safe while their families are away. The owners are extremely involved and always make sure Murray is well taken care of. We take Murray once a month for boarding just so he can visit all of his puppy friends. It's about 40 minutes from our house but well worth the drive! If we were closer we'd have him in daycare daily! It's great to pick him up and see how exhausted he is from all the playing. All in all Luxe Pet Resort is a great establishment! read more

Rebecca the groomer here is the BEST. My puppy Myles is super nervous and timid in new spaces. She gave me some helpful tips on how to help him overcome his shyness. Additionally, they did a great job grooming Myles. He smelled amazing and looking quite handsome with his fall handkerchief that they tied around his neck. Was boarding and doing daycare for quite awhile. Every time I picked my dog up I asked how was he? The answer was "great, we love him here". Then out of the blue the owner tells me there has been a long term issue that if repeated he can't come back. Honestly this should have been an issue that should have easily been taken care of by well trained staff. Its clear that owner doesn't hire competent staff across the board and customer service/communication is very poor. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Luxe! It's worth every penny for the exhaustion that my pup endures after a day here. If it's true that a tired dog is a happy dog, then my 11 month old puppy has reached Nirvana being here for the day, he fell asleep in his dinner the other night (and he NEVER misses a meal). He practically throws himself out of the car when we turn into the parking lot, which we've done a lot lately as I am packing our house to move. Going here gives him something to do while I paint and pack, and I really feel that the staff loves him. I love how they know all the names of the dogs and their owners, and greet them as such when they walk in the door. I've even been greeted by name when I am out in the "real world" sometimes I don't even have my dog with me! It's happened at the pet store and at the park, I feel like that is customer service that goes one step above. I'm not sure who will miss this place more when we move, Chex or me, but we will definitely be back for visits when we're in Boston. Until then we'll keep hoping they open a Luxe 2. I am not talking to the people at Lux, they have made my dog too happy. Reggie comes home normal, like a real dog, panting, self possessed, confident and if he could he would probably talk our ears off about how awesome it was. At the last place he used to go, he sat in his own feces(Red Dog) so long that it took months for the stains to come out of his fur. At LUX, he is put in the group with the other dogs and he THRIVES as I suspected he would. The worst part of this experience for ME is how he stares at me with this "I am so bored" look when he is home and it is all Lux's fault and I cannot thank them enough! Jerks! Lux has an added side effect with my own confidence and trust in Reggie, I am now comfortable dropping his leash around other dogs and his showing me all he has learned at Lux. Being able to trust a place is an unbelievable feeling and the adventures my wife and I are having knowing he is happy and safe at Lux has opened a new world of fun for us! Happen to be in the area and wanted to check out the facility's this past Sunday the 7th. I spoke with a young girl at the desk asking if I could get some info on the place and tour. I took a brochure, and asked if I could see the out side space behind the fence, she says "no one can see that it's for staff only" now that's poor pr I mean I know so many dog lovers like myself who wouldn't just drop off there dog with out seeing where there spending most of the day, she gave me a tour of inside, but where the dog actually spends the day no one she says can go in that area unless your staff. Don't get how they wouldn't allow paying costumes not to see this area?? If it cost so much and they have such great facility and great staff why not show it off??? She told me I could look through the fence which as we know your not able to do! So ya I'll give my $$$ and dog to a daycare that actually shows you where your dog is hanging all day never heard of this type of business that wouldn't allow the dog owner to tour or even see the space. Shame!!! Don't know how the other costumes even think this is good idea or welcoming! read more

Although my dog had a reservation for boarding, (and I had a plane to catch) the owners decided to hold a staff meeting during the time I was dropping him off and put a sign on the door that said "no drop offs" between 11-1. I was told when I made the reservation that I could drop him at any time. They didn't have anyone wait for me, or even call me. They didn't answer the door, or the phone, and they haven't contacted me to apologize for their horrible customer service. Completely ridiculous. My dog spent last week boarding while I was away. I had to jump through hoops to get all the things done that they required. All his shots, of course. Then they told me they needed a fecal sample after I went to the vet. Another $40. Then I brought him over to be evaluated. I didn't mind that either. When he came home he had kennel cough and my sons dog got it too. It is very contageous. So I know my dog was not the only one that got it. Spent another $100 for the vet, as did my son for his pug. I told them the story and they said that happens now and then. They were not that caring then. So much for fancy pancy luxe. I could have taken him anywhere to get kennel cough. read more

My dog loves this place for doggie daycare. They have both indoor and outdoor play areas and the dogs are well supervised. You can watch the dogs romping around in the outdoor yard from a distance (they ask you to not come near the fence so as to not distract the staff or dogs) and they always look like they are having a good time. They separate larger dogs from smaller dogs into two distinct areas. They also are concerned for your pets health and safety and you have to provide proof that your dog is up to date on his or her shots and also require a negative fecal sample test. They prescreen the pets to make sure they are not aggressive. There is ample off street parking when picking up or dropping off your pet. Although my dog only goes to doggie day care and has yet to stay there overnight they offer spacious overnight accommodations for both cats and dogs. This place is everything a responsible pet owner could ask for in doggie daycare and board. read more

This place is absolutly amazing!!! The staff is awesome and both my dogs love coming here. You do need to spay/neuter your dog so there's no aggression issues (anyone who can't understand that has something wrong with them). And you do need current up to date vaccinations to ensure the safty of all the dogs there. (again if that's too hard for some people to understand then you prob shouldn't even have a dog). For people like me who can follow those simple rules, I promise your dog will love it here. Every time I come my dogs go crazy with excitement in the car. They don't even care about me anymore once where there. All they care about is the staff and their doggie friends. This is truly the place to bring your dog/cat.
