Sammy, my Lhasa apso/spaniel mix, looking incredibly handsome after a wonderful groom by Sarah! She is the best groomer in the area!

Boston Paws is the best place in town!! As another reviewer said -- 5 stars truly isn't enough! They go above and beyond to care for both people and pets, and their dog-first philosophy comes through on every level. It feels like leaving your dogs with good friends, not with a business. Their prices are very reasonable, which is really a bonus, since I would pay premium for the level of care and service that they provide. I recently moved from NY, and I found them while trying to find a groomer to finish my dog's groom after having a harrowing experience with another establishment. They managed to fit me in the next morning, in spite of being very busy! My dog is an elderly, anxious rescue, and he doesn't always do well with new people, groomers, or other dogs. Sarah and Rachel instantly set both of us at ease! Sarah did an incredible job finishing his groom, and she managed to do it without giving him another bath! This was great, since baths are the worst part for my little dude. When I came to pick him up, he was completely happy and content, and even hung around for a while afterwards! None of his usual scramble for the door. Grooming has always been a necessary struggle for us, since he is a Lhasa apso/spaniel mix, and his fur grows very quickly, but he has sensitive skin and is partially blind, so he HATES being bathed and shaved. This is the very first time the 16 months that I've had him that he has been happy after being groomed! Sarah is absolutely a magical dog whisperer, and I will never have him groomed by anyone else. Now that I've found Boston Paws, I will be using them for boarding and walking as well. I absolutely love their cage free philosophy, and their glass doggie suites for overnight guests are gorgeous.

Our boys, Rocco and Ramsey, visited Boston Paws yesterday for the first time and were groomed by Sarah. Rocco was in tough shape having had a bad haircut at a place in Dedham - to see him come home happy and looking so good made my day! Thank you Sarah!! Ramsey is an 8 year old Malito-poo and Rocco is a 3 Year old Wheaton terrier. It was the absolute best hair cut they have ever had. They look adorable and smell so good. And I truly appreciate that they didn't put those scratchy horrible scarves on them. We have found our new home! Also the staff was so friendly and accommodating. Thank you Boston Paws for taking such great care of our boys!

Carl loves Boston Paws and it's awesome owners & staff!

We're loving this family run business! Our little guy Carl had his 1st overnight there this past weekend and he definitely had a great time. We've also sent him to doggie day care there as well. Our guy is pretty hard to tucker out but he def was more so by a long shot than other places we've boarded him at or put him in day care. Thanks so much Jamal and Rachael & Co!!

Very expensive for mediocre work. My eight year old schnauzer, who has never had a problem with any groomer, became aggressive.

Once booked, they never…read moreinformed me that the location I called doesn't do grooming and that I'd have to go to their other location in Jamaica plain. I drove 30 minutes to get to the Durham location just for them to tell me that I have to drive 30 minutes in the opposite direction. When I arrived at the correct location, the lady who I spoke to about how I wanted my dogs haircut to look seemed a bit ignorant like she knew nothing about dog haircuts. I showed her a picture of how I wanted my dog to look. They also said that they don't brush dogs teeth which is odd. Never been to a dog salon that doesn't brush the dogs teeth. We were originally told it would take 2 hours and it took almost 3 for my dog to be done. Upon picking up my dog, the lady behind the front desk told my sister and I that the groomer is new and only has under a YEAR of experience. Why wouldn't they tell me that prior to getting my dog groomed? I don't want a rookie to give my dog a botched haircut(which she did) but by this point it was too late. Also, when entering the store, it smells horrible like mildew. My dog came out, his hair choppy and the final result didn't look anything like the photo that I showed the lady( she took a picture of what I showed her so there shouldn't have been any confusion) The sweater I had him wearing was covered in fur, as if they cut his hair with the sweater on. I had to request my leash and collar back from them. Anyways, the people behind the front desk were sticking their faces in front of my dogs face so that he could lick them, letting them kiss their mouth which is honestly gross and not something I want to see. Overall, unhappy with how my dog turned out. Will not be returning.

Tessa has friends at Tails in Boston and always comes home exhausted after playing with them all day. We are really excited that Tails is expanding to Dedham - we just tried it out today and will be returning soon! Thank you to all of the staff, Tessa is a really lucky dog :)

On Call Pet Services is run by Kelly Lapre, who works with a team of other people. We've only…read moreinteracted with Kelly, and have found her to be very responsive (as in, nearly always responds within in 15 minutes of an email) and 100% available (she has never once said no to a gig). For cat sitting (2 cats, uncomplicated needs), her rate has been $16, which I find very reasonable. That said, we have been working with Kelly for about a year and a half, and recently decided to switch to another cat sitter. This was not because of anything overwhelmingly egregious on Kelly's part, but rather that we've had better services from other sitters in the past and would like to return to that. For instance, other sitters have always texted us pictures and updates about our cats. With Kelly, I found that she'll give me a brief update if I email to check in, but that's it. I would've preferred if she texted pics daily with every visit as a standard. (Note: When I emailed Kelly to share some concerns/feedback and ask for our keys to be returned, she stated that she is happy to do this for her clients upon request.) Another example is that over a longer gig (4 days) this summer, we returned home to an empty water bowl and two very thirsty cats. When I asked about it over email, Kelly wrote, "I gave them water every time I saw them just like I always do. I have been watching cats daily in the heat for ten years and two cats will empty a bowl of water in one day when it's hot. The water bowl is not big and now that I think of it it was empty each time I came so maybe when your [sic] home you fill it more often or there is another issue." I concur with Kelly that it's possible that a combination of heat, cats, time, etc may have led to the water bowl winding up empty by the time we got home (a day after her last visit), but what concerns me is that she noticed the bowl being continuously empty, and did not reach out to us. I would've been 100% okay with her putting down another water bowl (even without asking us). Also, increased drinking in cats can be a sign of something pretty serious, and I would like to have a pet sitter that has the awareness and expertise to alert me to something like this. Again, not canceling our service because of major issues, but rather some minor ones that overall just put us off. ETA: Kelly said that she mailed my key back to me. It was never received.

Kelly's rates are very reasonable, and Kelly's very dependable. Kelly's also accommodating. Once when Theo was with Kelly, I ended up in the emergency room, and was unable to care for Theo for a couple of days. Kelly kept Theo until I could resume caring for him. Kelly loves animals, and animals love her. Kelly also took care of my first dog about 10 years ago, and he also loved Kelly. Kelly sends pictures to me frequently, to show how much fun Theo's having. When Kelly comes to pick him up in the morning to take him out for the day, Theo shoots down the stairs, to get into her car, because he knows he's going to have a blast. For cat owners, I have recommended Kelly to one of the most difficult people I know who needed someone to care for her cat who has cardiac issues. Kelly was responsible for feeding him, making sure his water bowl was filled, and checking on his well-being. When my neighbor came back she went out of her way to tell me how grateful she was that I recommended Kelly to her. I believe Kelly provides one of the most important qualities that all animal lovers want, peace of mind knowing your pet is going to feel loved and cared for while you're gone.

I love that Paws does free meet and greet consultations to get to know your dog prior to just scheduling a walk (like Wag or Rover). Our adopted pup Rosie needs an experienced walker with the patience and care that Joel was able to provide, completely understanding as she is settling in and also getting leash-trained. We had a terrible dog-walking app experience because the walker was not a professional but just a college student who wants to make money while also getting the chance to pet a dog (despite us noting our needs). Long story short our girl got out of her harness AND collar as the walker was not able to properly approach the situation. Joel made the effort to acquaint himself with my pup and every time he walks her, he sends multiple photos and detailed accounts of the walk - including any good, bad, or odd behavior your dog may have exhibited/engaged in. Huge for learning how your pup may be developing - especially without you there - and if there's anything you can address sooner. Great visibility, easy to schedule service, candid and open communication, & one happy pup. Definitely recommend Paws to Consider's services for your furry friend.
