Theres a clear and concerning ongoing pattern here. Did not encounter such issues at Petco in the past and with a few different groomers too. Theres really no excuse for what they are doing here. I think they must have a new groomer since they used to do a good job on my dog, but they made up some BS about him being matted, which he wasn't and they shaved him. My poor dog was traumatized and was shaking for an entire day. I am sorry that I paid them. I took my cat there for a cat bath and nail trim for the first time ever. My cat was shaking and was quiet for almost a week. They did not even dry his fur all the way, did not brush him or and never cut his nails. The employee kept telling me how my cat was so good and enjoyed the service the whole time. My poor cat was so terrified that it took him a week to calm down and get back to himself. They charged me $100 for what? They didn't dry his fur and nor did they trim his nails. I took my fluffy Himalayan cat here to be groomed a few months ago. About 10 minutes after dropping him off the groomer called me and said "you need to come back immediately, he's really fighting for his life!!" When I arrived back they had a muzzle on him and had him about half shaved. They told me they didn't think they'd be able to finish given his behavior. Luckily upon seeing me he calmed down and they were able to finish, but they didn't do a thorough job. The cut was very uneven, he looked horrible! While combing him the groomer noted that he had 1 flea on him and suggested I give him a flea treatment. I asked if it was possible that the flea came from the table or materials they were using. The groomer rudely told me "NO! WE DO NOT HAVE FLEAS." To be safe I have him a flea treatment and had no issues. Overall for the quality of the job, cleanliness of the place, and friendliness of the staff I give City Tails 3/5. read more

This is literally the best place ever! I started taking my little Crosby here when he was a tiny pup to get groomed, a few months later he started daycare at City Tails. I can't even explain how excited he gets when he sees City Tails, if he can open the car door he totally would! This place is great especially Kelsey- she's been so helpful with all things Crosby and he loves her! When he got back he realized the cat had not been showered. When he called to ask if the cat had even been showered they said no, so why take the money and not say anything ? And the women who answered the phone was extremely rude and said it was her fault because she misunderstood him, he has a thick accent but he can speak English. I took it offensive when she proceeded to insist it was a language barrier, I couldn't believe someone could speak to their customers in such a way. She told us she could "squeeze" a bath in at 8:30 in the morning on July 17. So he won't be getting this money back. Sad. I attempted to get my cat's claws trimmed at City Tails after my roommate had a good experience there. When she asked to make an appointment when she went a few months ago, the City Tails rep told her, 'uh no just come in, it'll be fast.' So I did not call in to reserve an appointment on my journey to City Tails this past Saturday. I arrived at City Tails at 2:40pm only to find the doors locked, but with all the signs of an open business: lights were on and a cute little dog was left alone barking at me from the day care area. I figured the employee was probably still around or will return shortly, so I knocked on their front door and called their number for 15 minutes but I was left unanswered. I left to get something to eat across the street and returned an hour later, but City Tails was left in the same condition. I finally decided to call it quits, left them a final voicemail, and returned home. Fast forward to 3 days after the incident (today):I finally received a phone call from a City Tails rep who hinted that I was at fault for not making an appointment and to explain the groomer had a family emergency and had to leave for the day. And as for the cute little dog (see picture) in the back, apparently the dog was the construction worker's who was supposedly working in the basement. Her story seemed inconsistent since she asked if the dog I saw was a black lab, but the cute little dog was most definitely not one. I am extremely disappointed with the unreliability of service and lack of integrity at City Tails. I will most definitely not be going back. read more

They reached out to me about my review and said the photos were a lie. The owner called me a neglectful dog owner and said it was my fault for not watching his cut and I let it get bigger. This is a joke... blaming me for them butchering my dog? i told her its their fault for the size of the cut because they cut my dog, but she didnt understand that. I requested a copy of my signed liability waiver (that you have to sign - and how they get away with not refunding) and she was yelling at me saying 'I'm not giving it to you' in a nasty, condescending way. If it wasnt bad before, it got worse with the follow up. It will be 2 weeks tomorrow since the day of the incident, my dog is still in a cone, finished up his antibiotics but still a scab that hasnt healed. I wasnt able to get stitches since i took him to the vet two days later and he told me it was too late to stitch it up and i had to wait it out now. read more

This is where my 5lb Pomeranian goes to get his hair cut. I feel I can trust this place because the same staff is always there and the doggy day care is out in the open so you can see how they treat the dogs. The dogs there always seem happy and uncaged, so I like that. I'm docking one star because I think I usually pay $60 plus tip for a puppy cut and it seems steep for the area and size of my dog. Bottom line: Its worth the extra money to know your loved one is in good hands. read more

City Tails is pretty amazing - it's the best deal you'll get in the area with the best people taking care of your pup all day. The dogs are free to play all day with other dogs their size/behaviors and get to play in the park at least once a day which is awesome. My puppy has been coming here for nearly 6 months, every week day and I've even had them dog-sit overnight which was nice because they can just bring her back to the daycare the following day so her routine doesn't get interrupted. Another great part about this place is that all dogs are properly vaccinated before they can start attending. It's also a really easy and effective way to teach your dog how to socialize properly with others, all ages and sizes. I know the work can be difficult, but I hope they recognize they are really making a difference for dog owners and the dogs themselves which everyone is really grateful for. read more

I've brought my miniature pinscher/havanese mix puppy, Paddington, to City Tails a couple times now for grooming since I moved into the area just a few months ago. He's not easy to groom because of his mixed breeding, but they make him look good every time and he smells great! I love that they clean his teeth and grind down his nails too with the standard grooming package (only like $55 for Paddy!). Now that I've read the reviews on daycare and dog walking, I might sign him up for that too as I start a new job with longer hours. They are super nice there too! read more

Not a very pleasant experience. Rude staff, careless attitude. When you bring your pet for grooming services, the least you can expect is them to clean his/her eyes. When I brought it to their attention, I shouldn't be told that they cannot wash my pets head, with a rude attitude. I cannot imagine how they treat my pet behind the curtains if they treat their costumers like this. On top of that, you are paying a ridiculous price, and charged for additional services that you didn't request... Never again. read more

We have a kitty with extra toes, and the nails tend to grow long and quickly. We used to take our cat to the vet to get this done but from now we'll be going here. The atmosphere is really nice, the staff was great and it was a lot less expensive than the vet. Most importantly though I have never seen anyone cut cat nails with such skill. Our cat was perfectly calm when they did it (and normally she flips out but something about this place made her feel comfortable) they did it super fast and she was in and out in no time. I highly recommend this place, I had a fantastic first experience and I'll be sure to go back again in the future! read more

Took my dog here for her first experience in day care. It was three weeks after her spay, and my vet had told me should could resume normal activity 7 days after the surgery. Well, at some point during her stay, some other dogs must have gotten to her tummy, because I realized AFTER I GOT HER HOME that she was a scabby, bloody mess. Nearly $200 in vet bills and two rounds of anitbiotics later, she was OK. Please note that the scar was completely closed when I dropped her off, and no one at City Tails even mentioned that my dog had clearly bled a fair bit while she was there. Do I blame them? Yeah, a bit. My dog was right in the main room with them! Purportedly not in some pen way in the back. So yeah, if another dog was going to town on my dog's tummy, I suspect they would have noticed. If they didn't notice, that's bad. If they did notice and still didn't tell me...also bad. I genuinely liked the woman who ran the place and the idea that they take your dog to the park for exercise...but...seemed like they didn't watch her carefully. I will take my dog to Dog Therapy in Waltham or Beantown Bed & Biscuit in Brookline, where they have a "lifeguard" watching all the dogs, all the time. Better deal! read more

This place is GREAT. The people who own it and work there are so down to earth and friendly, and you can tell that they really care about the animals they're working with. When I brought my shy cat here the groomer took extra time to pet him and make him feel relaxed before even taking him out of the crate. I brought my huge and long-haired Maine Coon cat in for a lion cut. It only cost me $55 and took less than a half hour to complete, which is great. After the shave, they rubbed him down with a hot towel with Aloe lotion to help soothe the skin! After the cut, my cat felt like velvet and smelled soo good without even having a bath. This place also has pet toys and chews and collars/leashes, etc. for sale. There's a little play pin for any dogs that come in; it's really cute and a great way to keep the dogs off the customers when they walk in. When my cat was done they kept him on the floor behind the counter away from all the people and dogs (there was only one dog in the playpin when I went to pick him up), which I REALLY appreciated (in my experience it seems like most groomers don't get that cats don't like dogs). Unlike some other places, they don't take your pet behind a wall or in a back room where you can't see what's going on. The grooming tables are behind the counter, but in the open where you can plainly see how they're handling your pet and what they're doing, which is great. I only brought my cat here, but I know they do dog grooming, doggie day care, and dog walking as well, and for VERY reasonable prices. They also have a self-service bath available too. They don't have a website because I think they're fairly new, but definitely stop in or call to talk to the groomer, he's wicked nice and will tell you anything you need to know about their services (parking is plentiful with or without a resident permit). And their hours are great - open all weekend and way past the normal working 9-5 hours during the week. There's really nothing bad I have to say about this place, and I've been to A LOT of pet groomers. This place is definitely a superb find. read more

I cannot say enough good things about City Tails. I brought my grandfather's older, small dog (Kiwi!) here to get his nails trimmed. The dog's nails had gotten extremely long, as my grandfather is advanced in years and has recently not been able to get out and about to run such errands. The groomer here, a very nice, tall gentleman, did SUCH an amazing job. On our first visit, he was able to trim the dogs very long, black nails, quite a bit. I understood that it would take a few visits to get the nails down to a manageable length, but was thoroughly impressed with how much nail he was able to remove. Additionally, Kiwi is squirmy and usually whines his head off when getting his nails clipped, yet the protests were extremely minimal. I was amazed. On my way to our second visit, disaster struck. Kiwi is an older dog, as I mentioned, and his bowels can be affected by stress pretty easily. I walk him down to the groomers, and on this day he got a bit nervous when cars and trucks were driving by us in the busy traffic area of Oak Square. As we came to the crosswalk, right in front of City Tails, he refused to move any further, so I picked him up to cross the street. Unfortunately the poor fellow had experienced too much excitement for one morning, and proceeded to have explosive diarrhea all down my right side as I held him. I tell this story, because the staff at City Tails were SO unbelievably kind to me. They gave me wet paper towels and helped me clean up. I was embarrassed, of course, and I hope I didn't dampen their day too much, but I didn't want to blow off the appointment either and be a no-show. I sincerely appreciate their help and understanding. And the same gentleman groomer did an equally amazing job cutting our Kiwi's nails, yet again. I really recommend this establishment. They are phenomenal with the animals, which is great, but on top of it, they are wonderful people. I will be bringing Kiwi back again, but maybe at a less busy traffic time! I have been bringing my papillon, Joey there since 2009 for both doggy day care & grooming and HIGHLY recommend them. Even if has been months since my pup has been there the employees always remember both myself & Joey. Jared knows who I am when I call - they feel like family. The atmosphere is bright and colorful. They have separate areas for large and small breeds and they separate those pups who don't get along. I always get a update from the employees on his behavior and what he did & if he has made a friend :-) I'm always pleased with his cuts and will continue to bring Joey there! read more

Awesome doggy daycare spot! We feel so lucky that City Tails happened to be the closest daycare to us after getting our puppy as it's so affordable especially in comparison to other Boston and Newton places. The employees are great and it's evident how much they love working with dogs. They've been wonderful to our pup who started going there at 3 months and is now almost 1. Also having the groomer is convenient as we can drop our dog off for daycare and pick him up tired but also with freshly cut nails for a cheap price. We can't even walk our dog past the entrance when it's closed because he stops at the door and refuses to move past! He loves City Tails and so do we, thanks for being awesome guys! read more

City Tails is amazing. We live very close and saw signs going up that a new pet place was opening up soon. We were really excited. The first week that they were open we went in and signed up our little doberman puppy for daycare. The first week or so he was the only one there and loved getting all the attention. As word started to spread about how personable, reliable and great city tails was more and more dogs started coming to daycare. Troy still gets that one on one attention that he craves, but has made many many friends, and comes home everyday as tired as can be. We go for the 1/2 day (4 hours) for $10. It works with our schedule. City Tails is the only place that we want to send Troy everyday, that we trust completely, and we know he will have the most fun. We hate being away from him, but know that we would never want him anywhere else. :) read more
