So this store is super addicting for all your needs. You can get your hair done at the salon. You can shop for makeup, hair care, nails. There have a huge selection of OPI nail polish. They always seem to carry the latest OPI collection and the price is very reasonable for the brand. They have a great selection of hair products too. I love the candles that they carry here. It's out of this world amazing. The jewelry they have here is amazing as well. It's very Austin-ish and there are some unique pieces that you can only find in shops like this throughout town. If you are looking for the cute Fred gifts, they have a huge selection too. There are some Marc Jacobs purses and wallets here, the selection is small but it always seems to be changing. I'm not one for shopping here for clothes, but they have a large selection of dresses and tops and bottoms. I just never see anything for myself. They have the most amazingly adorable one-sies here though for babies. super cute and unique designs on them. I do like the shoe selection at times, it's a hit or miss for me. I always just come in to see what new items they have. There are always warm cookies and water if you are feeling up for a snack or if you are parched. The girls here are super sweet and super nice. I've lived in Austin for 9 years but never found a stylist that had me coming back again and again. Margaret has changed all of that! She is on point with everything, super knowledgeable and friendly but never overbearing, and she immediately understood what I wanted. She cares about making my hair look its best not just right after the cut, but as it grows out too! I've gotten so many compliments on my hair and I truly feel great for months after a cut. My bff from Phoenix comes all the way to Luxe to get her hair done by the hair master: Rick King, or as we lovingly refer to him, Rick Kaaaaannnggg. One summer afternoon, I watched him cut her hair with so much love and tenderness, I shed a tear. Yes, just one tear. Snip, snip. Step back. Analyze. Snip, snip. Ah, he was a master. He's like the Samuel L Jackson of hair stylists: smooth, chill, and completely in control of his craft. I watched him transform my bff's hair into a smooth mane of sleek chic-ness. She looked hot (-ter than usual)! I shed another tear. After the tear-jerking moment, I decided that I too would have Rick King cut and style my hair. It was a good time. He gave the best advice (girlll, throw his video games away!) and made me look nice (it CAN be done). And when my bff saw me, she exclaimed: RICK did THIS? Of course, Rick is a master at what he does, and masters can command anything ($$) they want. The salespeople can be snobby or nice, depending on how they size you up, unfortunately. A great stop for nail polish (they carry several great brands including Lippmann) and gifts. This store has so much cute stuff. I could drop a lot of cash here, if, like, I had any. Cute clothes, both their own brand and designers, but most of that stuff is pretty pricey. Tons of nail polish and hair/body products, plus a spa in the back (which I've not utilized). They also have loads of cute knick knacks and arty things by locals such as the ceramic tiles of iconic Austin spots and street art, adorable soaps in the shape of macarons and Popsicles and cupcakes, jewelry at all different price points, and all manner of fun, girly stuff. This place is a hidden gem. Yes I know, it's in the Domain, but it has the feel of a local boutique. They have odds and ends of all sorts from local Austin jewelry designers and stuff makers. They're jewelry was beautiful and reasonably priced for such beautiful items. They had a large selection of brightly colored clothes (OMG the colors) in lots of adorable styles. Best of all was the sale selection. I bought an AMAZING backless dress on sale for $25 instead of $115. Score! I will absolutely be back. read more

I'm honestly shocked to see so many glowing reviews on here. This place is just okay. The pros for this place: Travel sizes of lots of high end hair products, awesome selection of nail polish, tons of yummy Voluspa candles, and excellent selection of high-end skin care lines. Perfect place for a small, nice gift. The cons: cluttered and crowded to the nth, not at all like an upscale boutique. They carry some name brands, but their own line is expensive and cheaply made. Their jewelry is mostly cheap-o crap, except for the occasional stand-out. The collection of stuff is just a giant mish-mash, doesn't look like anyone really did any curating, and the girls that work there are generally college students without any real knowledge. Overall, for the price point you'd be better off going to a more tasteful, upscale boutique. read more

My inner cool self loves this place. A little boho chic and a lot of personality. Digging through the piles of jewelry displayed in cute little bowls or rows of shoes on the ground or tightly packed racks of clothes, I feel a little like I'm in a European flea market....that is, until I see the price tags. The store is crowded, full of stuff for the casual boho chic chick from the candles, to haircare, to knick knacks and clothing and accessories. The store carries moderately priced items from the "Luxe" brand to big ticket items like Marc Jacobs and Citizens for Humanity. The quality of the "Luxe" brand is not great, but if you want something trendy and don't mind polyester, this is a good place to shop. Stopped in today to leave ok around and pick up a couple fun gifts for a couple gal's birthdays coming up. Wasn't even in the door yet when approached by a sales rep asking me what I was there for and trying to drag me to the back of the store to the sale rack and wine gifts. Valerie, you were super sweet but please relax and don't be so pushy! I repeatedly told her I was going to take my time and make my rounds and look around. She was very persistent. "What does your friend like!? Does she like wine? Candles?!" I politely told her I wasn't looking for anything in particular. After the third or fourth time being approached by her I stated once again that I was not lookI got for anything in particular. I wanted to browse and if something reminded me of the birthday gal then I would snag it. I made t clear that she would get credit!!! This is probably my favorite store in the Domain! It's not one of the generic chain stores and it carries a nice mix of higher end and more affordable items. The store is always very neat and tidy too! I can not handle digging through piles of clothes :p Overall I would describe the style of the store as trendy, but classic and feminine. Jewelry & Accessories - they have a TON! I can spend an hour just looking through all of it. I love accessories. Jeans - they have a good selection of designer jeans and always have jeans on sale too! Dresses - SOOO CUTE! Lots of lovely summer dresses and nice prints. Gifts & Knick Knacks - large selection of items if you're looking for a funny and witty gift. The inventory seems to change a lot, so there's always new stuff to look at. Sadly, they stopped selling Diptyque last year (now Nordstrom is the only store in Austin that I know carries it) but have recently started carrying South Austin Gallery goods--love those cute coasters! Cons: like others have mentioned, the store is in no way curated, the staff can be undeservedly pretentious, return policy is pretty strict (14 days w/ receipt and no returns on any cosmetics, even sealed) and their "house" brands are incredibly cheaply made and overpriced. Oh, and how could I forget, free cookies everyday and free MIMOSAS on weekends! Can't beat that. read more

Thanks to an aesthetician's recommendation, I came here to check out the bareMinerals make-up offerings. Kay was really sweet about taking time to pick out shades that would match my skin tone and buffing some on to demo them. I ended up spending $120 on a starter kit, lip gloss, eye shadow (with a free brush), and blush. But they neglected to inform me of their return/exchange policy on cosmetics (i.e., they don't take anything back or exchange it). After I got home, I looked at the starter kit and realized that Kay had pulled the medium one by mistake, so I called the store, and they were nice enough to make that an exception and let me exchange it for a light kit instead. I usually hate paying retail prices for anything, but I suppose when you really don't know anything about make-up, it helps to have someone recommend stuff to you. Now that I know what colors work for me, I plan on making future purchases online. (On Amazon, my total would have come out to $80 instead.) The verdict: I'll come back again if I need more make-up advice, but I don't see myself visiting that often. read more

Wow, I'm surprised so many people have received bad service here! Although, R G., you shouldn't criticize a company based on complaints that are personal... I do agree, however, they could use better customer service, such as simple things like being greeted at the door. I can see how the service can come off as snooty. Although, I bought a cool, natural skin care line here a month ago or so and the salesperson was very helpful. The mask ended up working very well for my skin. I approached the salesperson for help and she was more than glad to help me. Maybe they don't want to pressure you into buying something by being too eager to help? A lot of times I like being left alone to browse the store and I just ask for help if I need it. I am not sure but I don't think my experience was that bad! They have some cute lines like Phillip Lim, DVF and Milly and have good sales now and then. I think it's still worth checking out. Support local, folks! :) read more

Luxe is a great little store with lots of trending clothing and accessories and cute home goods... HOWEVER, the best part of this place is hidden in the back of the store - the Salon and Spa!!!! I have been going to Stacy James for almost 6 years! She is A - M - A - Z - I - N - G!!!! I can't say it enough - attentive and kind to your own personal needs. A warm, clean and comfy environment to relax and unwind. She is the best at removing stubborn knots and providing tips on stretches to improve muscles in those areas to prevent future kinks. Best place in Austin to go for a haircut. The sylists are all very experienced and friendly (Angelica is my favorite, but Thomas & the rest of the gang are great too) and scheduling is a breeze. Wendy can get you an appointment over the phone and she's always cheerful & helpful - she even text messages appointment reminders and schedule changes to me. Walked in only needing a trim at the neck, spoke with a hairdresser and said no less than $75 and he walked away. I was willing to pay him $200 to fix it, again only a neck trim. He was rude and didn't even allow me to respond to the $75 offer. Cross this one off the list to patronize again. You would think a two minute neck trim at $200 in an emergency would gain you a high paying customer in the long run. I will say the front staff was very nice and accommodating. read more

Angelica gets 5 stars from me but I'm giving the whole store 4 stars since I don't really care for their clothes, mostly because they're too expensive & trendy for me. They do have heavenly smelling candles and all the OPI nail polish colors you could ever want. When I moved to Austin from Dallas in 2003, I searched for someone who was great at cutting naturally curly / wavy hair, and found a gem with Angelica (at Avant at that time). Unfortunately when I was trying to cut back on my spending, I ended up going to several different stylists who charged less...and therefore, I ended up unsatisfied with my hair. I returned to Angelica after she started working at Luxe, and I am happy with my hair again. It's worth it to me to pay a little more. She always styles it well (either straight or curly), listens to me whenever I want to make any changes, and never chops off too much. She is also incredibly sweet & genuine, and doesn't chatter away like some stylists. And she never tries to push products on me. Angelica rocks! I've also been to Amanda a few times for a brow wax / shaping, and she has done an excellent job. Wendy, the store manager, is always friendly and so are the other employees in the shop. Rick is the all time best at color and full highlights. He has been styling my hair for almost 10 years; graduations, weddings, formals, etc. Rick always is up with the latest styles and will do exactly what you ask (sometimes modifies the look so it fits you, perfectly!) I have never been disappointed : ) I am blonde with super fine hair and he has done EXTENSIVE corrective coloring from all the mistake coloring during my college days! Rick is amazing at color..... I refer him to my friends and all rave about him... He can do any color. When you call to set up your appt. the staff is very friendly and will call you with a reminder appt. The shopping at Luxe is great, mostly one of a kind items. My friends in Houston are constantly asking where I buy my clothes...... Also, Wendy is great with any of your face care needs. I have received a make up application from Luxe and it was by far the best application I have received. read more

I USED to love the clothes here. I USED to enjoy shopping here. I USED to dig the 10.00 sun glass pile. BUT then I bought a bag a couple years ago...and pretty expensive (for me) Matt and Nat bag. They had just got it in and the sales girl was raving about how much she liked it. But after just a month or two the bag started "shedding" its metallic outside. It's handle was getting all cracked. I took it back and was like, "hey, this bag is totally falling apart after just a couple months" and the manager looked at the bag and said, "You didn't get that here". I was like, "um, yes I did, it was over on that display with all the other Matt & Nat bags". Again she looked down her nose at me and said, "we never carried that bag, I never saw it". "Yes, you did. I bought it the second or so day you put it out". Anyway, this went on for a few minutes and I was so mad that this chick was not only wrong, she was completely out of line! I left that store and easily found Hem better replacement store for my jeans and ANYWHERE a better replacement store for bags. All the fun stuff in there can be bought at Anthropology or any one of Austins cute and killer boutiques like SoLa, Strut, Girl Next Door, and Estio. I went back once when it moved to the Domain, but it still had such a rude and crappy vibe. Worse than ANY snooty store in LA and guess what ladies, Austin AIN'T LA! I have a hard time finding a hair dresser who I am comfortable with (I have slight confidence issues) but when you sit in her chair to get your hair done she makes you feel like family and comfortable. Paid once for 3 things, then the sales girl forgot to add their mug, paid for that, then the girl decided she wanted to buy some sunglasses so they had to do that. I think Rick must have been having an extremely off day when he cut my hair. I wanted to change it up and get bangs, but I was pretty wary about going to just anyone - so based on a recommendation I decided to splurge and get my hair done by Rick. I've never had such an awful haircut. I was really, really explicit when I explained that I wanted soft, non-intense, 1960s (something like Francoise Hardy) bangs, I brought in pictures, and we discussed another client of his who had the exact kind of low-key bangs I wanted... but Rick cut bangs literally all the way to the back of my head, then brushed them forward and dried them. Of course, once I moved around a bit, it looked awful -the short bits went all the way around my head, coming down in awkward short layers on the sides and even at the back of my head. Unless I constantly looked down at the ground, my "bangs" were absolutely not bangs. Rick's nice, really engaging, and I'm sure he thought my hair looked good, but it was the exact opposite of what I'd asked for. He even stood back and said that I'd be making a statement with such a unique hair cut... all I wanted was some normal bangs! It's been over a year since Rick cut my hair, and it still looks a complete mess. I have long, stick straight hair, so the short bits all around my head are really obvious -the other day, someone asked if I have extensions. Not the look I'm going for. Since a lot of my hair was cut short, I lost a lot of thickness too. This is seriously frustrating. Not only was it a bad haircut, it was a supreme let down that has lasted over a year. I have no idea how it happened, since Rick has got so many good reviews, and I liked what he'd done on another client. After seeing the previous review of Angelica at Luxe I knew I had to comment. I have been going to Angelica at Luxe for almost 4 years now and have never had a bad haircut or color. I have even - due to budget reasons, tried going elsewhere but realized that when it comes to hair, what you pay for is what you get. I think without hearing the other side to this story, its hard to tell what happened, but Angelica and Wendy are both very sweet ladies, and very good at what they do. In 4 years I have never seen either one of them be rude or unprofessional with a client, and I am guessing that there is much more to this story. As a friend once told me, there are 2 people you don't ever want to mess with, those who cut your hair and those who cook your food, and I believe this to be good advice. I give Angelica an idea of what I like and then she, as the professional, tells me what would work, and somewhere between the two, I end up with a great haircut. If a style isn't going to work or would look awful, I trust that she would tell me, that's why she is good at what she does. Also, can you really trust the words of someone with that many typo's and grammatical errors in their review? I think not. I used to be more of a fan of this boutique/salon. They used to have some hard to find designers and you could occasionally find good deals. Now they have replaced these designers with ok looking clothing. The selection of beauty products is pretty good, I like how they carry Shu Uemura and Dermalogica (both hard to find in Austin). Cool concept, but I think the salon is way overpriced and whenever I walk up to the salon desk no one is ever to be found. On my most recent visit after standing at the desk for a while, someone walked by me and greeted me and then finally the recepcionist (whom which I thought was a customer because she was chatting with one of her friends) asked how she could help me. When I asked for price quote on the Brazilian Blowout, she looked at my hair for a second and then quoted me a starting price of $300. I told her I had paid $250 at my last salon, she responded with a very sarcastic voice and said "THAT"S GREAT", then walked away from me. I am looking for a new salon in Austin because I just moved back from Boston. In Boston they charged $250- $300 at amazing salons and spas. Luxe Apothetique, however, is not what I would describe as amazing at all. In my opinion they should set the front desk up in a better way, have receptionists with better manners and if they really are charging this much I would of like to hear it from a stylist, rather than a recepcionist. I do not like someone taking a 2 second evaluation of my hair and quoting me a starting price of $300. I'm only giving you 3 stars because of the beauty product selection and accessories but honestly this last experience put me off. read more

The store itself is pretty average, but I occasionally see something in the window that I want to check out. The clothes are cheaply made, but you never know, so I keep going in. Not anymore. The one star is for their customer service. It is abysmal. I've gone in several times over the last few years, each time wondering if I'll be acknowledged. Nope. Not once. Ever. The clerks are snobby and will even walk right by me without a word. I'm in my 40's and dress nicely, but I guess I don't look fashion forward enough? Doesn't matter. I love Luxe! I've been going there for several years, since my stylist Angelica moved there from her last salon, and have always had a great experience. I am shocked at some of the reviews on here complaining about the people at the salon. I was just there on 7/28 and was greeted warmly by Wendy who offered me a drink while she notified Angelica that I was there. Wendy is always so sweet and super helpful, answering any of my questions about products. Angelica is simply the best stylist, ever. I've been going to her for about 7 years now, and has always been a miracle worker for my hair. I have wavy hair, and prior to seeing her, I always had stylists tell me that they could never cut my hair so I could wear it wavy and that I always needed to straighten it. Not Angelica! She totally works with the natural wave of my hair and it always looks great wavy or straight. I have naturally blonde hair and was dying it really dark for a couple of years. I got engaged and wanted to go back to blonde for the wedding. I thought it would take months to get it back to looking blonde and healthy, so I was amazed when I walked out of the salon the first time and it looked incredible. This girl is seriously a miracle worker! Don't pay attention to the other reviews about the people here. I think everyone is great! The experience, between the salon and the store, is always fun. They have minimal information about it, and it is impossible to know who their salon workers are.
