I had chosen LUX Construction after finding them online through social media, they had many positive reviews and I liked that they had a specialization in ADU design and construction. This was one of the main reasons I chose them, the majority of the other contractors didn't understand or know the rules or regulations regarding ADU builds in San Jose. David and Shai were very experienced and knowledgeable on the details so it gave me confidence that they could do the job well. I ultimately chose them to the build also because of the value they were offering for the build. I knew I wanted to build as modern as possible but with a reasonable price that wasn't way high. I had many nice finishing's in mind that I knew might cost more but wanted to differentiate mine from all the other run of the mill ADU builds out there. Nadia, the architect gave me a simple and modern design and was always quick to help make any changes along the way before getting the plans approved. Delphine did as much as she could to advise me on the interior finishing but left most main design decisions up to me as I have a particular taste. I would also like to mention Shai for working hard to make sure he could answer all my questions and concerns along the way, he works very hard and is a busy person handling multiple projects. I'm a believer that building faster isn't necessarily better, as I was particular on details along the way to make sure certain things turned out the way I intended. I learned a lot during the entire process and building a ADU is a long process that you need to be patient for. Good things take time and shouldn't be rushed. Joey came to the property for a consultation and we talked about the changes we wanted done to the house. At this time, the interior had not been demoed yet, and he gave us a rough ballpark number of how much it could cost. He was incredibly patient and nice, wanted to make sure all our questions were answered before he left. I called the company a few months later to talk about an actual price quote with the labor broken down, etc. The guy I spoke with said an estimate like that wouldn't be available until I signed a contract. But why would I sign a contract unless I agreed with the price? My experience with Joey was very positive and it made me want to choose Lu Construction as a contractor but I thought this process was so odd I didn't proceed. read more

We had the chance to work with LU on 2 big jobs at the same site: (1) a new 730 sq ft ADU; and (2) a gut renovation to about half of our main house. Besides factors which were beyond all of our control (mostly related to COVID changes and supply chain issues), the projects were on time and completed as intended. We just finished our Final Inspection in excellent shape in Saratoga. I would definitely recommend working with LU and, in particular, our project manager JOEY, because they aim to please. As you all know (or should know), any construction project is going to be really stressful. Joey/LU do a really great job of working to please the customer and being flexible when unexpected issues arise. Here are some things I thought went well: 1. They are an integrated design/build shop so that you don't have to get caught in a trap of dealing with the issues that arise with multiple changes to your plans and waiting for turnaround from two different entities. We made a fair number of revisions to our plans, which really gave us the structures that we are really happy with. Both Nadia (architect) and Delphine (designer) worked with us in person and virtually to perfect the decisions we were making. 2. They try their best to please their customers: for example, Joey/LU insisted that we do the jobs in sequence (rather than at the same time, which would have probably been cheaper for them) so that we would have a working kitchen and dining area throughout the entire process and we could stay in our own property. This helped avoid as much added stress as possible. 3. They have a lot of jobs in the South Bay, so they can show other sites at many stages of progress and are close by when issues/emergencies inevitably come up if you are in the South Bay. Joey is very responsive when urgencies come up. 4. Inevitably, things come up in the build process that can be a surprise. For example, we had to put in a new sewer clean out to the main sewer line which they helped with. There was uncertainty about what elements were structural in our main house and, once we had a chance to open everything up, they helped figure out the best design given our constraints. We decided we needed a half bath near our kitchen area and they were able to adapt to that need. Over the years, our home had many different floor/subfloors and they helped us figure out how to make it uniform/level for a single wood flooring. PGE was a real challenge and they helped us electrify the home while waiting for PGE to approve needed upgrades. 5. We did look at several other companies and, overall, we thought the bid was competitive with what others were offering (given how $$ everything is these days in the Bay Area). In fact, we initially were only going to do the ADU, but Joey helped us make a plan to also renovate our living areas which we could afford. Things that could be better: 1. They did seem to have some issues getting in sync with the inspectors office's schedule, but I think this was largely related to COVID closures as well as a wonky website. 2. Some of their subs had to revise their work a couple of times, but they finished the job. I think you have to be really specific about what you want right up front to get what you want out of the project. Overall, you should definitely give Joey/LU a call when you're looking at ADUs or renovations. No 2nd quote! Yes! I signed my first ADU contract with LU! Either Joey and his team are too good, or I am too blind trusting, and so far, I think it is the former. Joey took me to work sites, and had me meeting designer Nadia, on phone with his manager, Dave. The team works very well together. I like that. Joey has the ability to remove all the doubts and questions I have, and he is a creative problem solver I did not mark a 5 star because we just started. Sometimes, Joey don't reply my text right away, I understand that everybody is busy, and I don't immediately reply everything either, and on issues gating the progress, Joey is very responsive. I hired LU Construction to build an ADU in my backyard. Even from the very beginning this company has been very professional and respond promptly. I set my appointment with a lovely girl named Kathleen who was very courteous and even called to remind me of my appointment the day before. From the moment we met with the Project Manager Joey it was clear he cared and made the process easy and open. I highly recommend Lu and especially our project manager Joey if you are looking to build an ADU or embarking on a home renovation/new build. We initially had plans drawn for a full home renovation but then had sticker shock once we received the bids. When the ADU laws changed, we pivoted towards building a detached ADU. We met with several ADU companies but we signed with Lu because of their expertise (we were able to tour several homes/ADUs in different stages of completion) and ultimately because Joey helped us to envision a way to reconfigure our main home to include our highest priorities (updated kitchen/dining/living area and creating a senior friendly in-law suite) without moving structural walls. Been 5 years since we had our kitchen remodeled with LU construction and it's not holding up well. I dont have many regrets in life but I wish we had saved up and went with a different contractor. Cabinets are so cheap and I get mad everytime I look at them. Cheap wood they used on our peninsula is bending. Initially they kept all the spacers in between the marble tiles in the grout so plastic pieces were sticking out. They covered it once I called them back. There were so many mishaps and we ended up changing out the countertops since initial install was so bad. I hope they have done better 5 years later. We decided to extend our home, and we had some concepts in mind. We called a few companies to get an idea and high-level quotes. Looking at online reviews, we decided to get a quote from LU Construction as well. Ben, who is the project manager, came in for the first meeting. He listened to our concept carefully. He gave us a good background of the company. We liked the fact that LU Construction is a one-stop shop from designs, and city permits to construction, plumbing, HVAC, etc. After looking at the scope of our work, which was substantial, Ben decided to involve David, who is the senior manager of the company. When David came in and saw the project, he gave us some suggestions that we had never thought about. We immediately liked his idea and asked them to develop the concept further. They gave us 3D models for a charge, which they waived after we allotted them with the final contract. We are so glad that David gave us that suggestion now that our project is done and we see the benefit of his vision. Ben and David explained to us the process of city approvals and inspections to set expectations about the city's inefficient method of working. It turned out to be accurate, and it was less frustrating because we were prepared. Construction projects are complex. Mistakes can happen. We did have some of the missteps, but what we really liked about LU construction is that they owned them honesty and offered solutions to fix. We never had to argue with them about it. In some cases, they made us aware of the problem that we had not noticed in the first place and fixed them proactively. And there was an instance where we wanted bathroom vanity to be installed in a specific way next to the shower. While they agreed to do what we said, they offered advice about the cons of our approach. We listened to what they suggested, and that was the right decision. Ben is an exceptionally dedicated professional. He goes the extra mile to make sure you are satisfied. In some case, we asked for changes after work was completed, and Ben got it done without any hassles. He maintained a high line of communication and kept us up to date on progress and future work. We sought out LU Construction for the remodeling of our kitchen and guest room. Both projects were performed with professionalism and grace. Sol was our project lead and handled all parts of our project in a professional and beautiful way. We are very happy with the final outcome. Honestly the work could not have been done better in our opinion. The estimated cost of the work and any extras during construction were honest and nothing was a surprise. Sol mentioned some challenges that may or may not come up depending on the work. However, when those challenges came up, they were handled in a way where we did not feel cheated. I wish that there was a way to give 0 stars. We hired LU Construction to do a bathroom addition because we were shown photos and viewed one of their projects that were beautiful and of high-quality workmanship. They passed the initial City inspections, but after that, their work was rushed and substandard, including uneven shower tile, shower floor not in a continuous slope as required by code, grout uneven or missing in some areas, vanity top installed too low so that vanity drawers cannot open and close smoothly, sink faucets installed improperly, bathroom floor not level, exterior stucco has holes and does not match the existing stucco. The list goes on. They do not have a licensed contractor checking on the work crew, who are unlicensed, jack-of-all trades, master of none workers. The same workers did the demo, framing, plumbing, electrical, stucco, tile, painting. They damaged our driveway and our outdoor furniture, entered our home without our permission and removed building materials that have yet to be recovered. They left, however, a large pile of sand/cement mix in our front yard and buckets of liquid construction waste. While they acknowledged some of the poor workmanship, they said they would redo only if we paid them more money! We also have learned that their company was dissolved in March 2018, before they contracted with us in August 2018. Sadly, the Contractor State License Board information on their license did not reflect this in late July 2018. It now shows that their license will expire on November 20, 2018. We were told by our Project Manager, Ben, that all the workers are employees of the company and to not worry about mechanic's liens being placed on our house. We were later told by the Regional Manager, David, that they are subcontractors, which therefore leaves open the possibility of mechanic's liens. We do not know what is true and what is a lie. We are heartsick at the loss of money paid to them, for materials that they have ruined, the time we have lost in getting the project done, the cost of repairing their bad work, and worry at the possible damage to our house that may reveal itself over time. It should have been an easy project for a real licensed contractor. We know they have received 5 star reviews, which makes us believe they may do good work for some, but not for others. We hope no one else experiences the nightmare we have. read more

We needed a new bathroom remodel for our house. My family recommended LU Construction and so we decided to go with them. I set up an appointment and within a day they sent us one of their experts. Our project manager Chris met with us to give us a free estimate. We sat with him for a couple of hours going over tiles, toilets, and tubs. Our project included converting our living room to a 4th bedroom, and adding a new family/living room extension on the other side of our existing dining room area. Kitchen cabinets and counter top upgrade, and new laminate flooring in new family/living room, dining room, kitchen, and main hallway. And just as a throw in, a new exhaust fan in our main bathroom. What we liked: 1. The contract negotiation process with David was very efficient and pleasant. He and his partner were at all of the appointments on time. We did not feel pushed. They were very flexible and listened to our needs and even offered to throw in a kitchen cabinet and counter top remodel without price change. 2. The team that did the flooring, the living room to bedroom conversion, and the new living room extension did a great job. If there were changes needed or questions asked, they took care of it on the spot. Filiberto is a great foreman, and they have a great crew. 3. When we asked to have the counter top mismatch in color fixed, there was no hesitation. The countertop crew came in and re-did nearly half of the counter top that was mismatched. 4. The kitchen cabinet, counter top crew did a fine job after it was all said and done. Things that could be improved: 1. The kitchen cabinet and counter top crew had some communication issues. They showed up several times without the necessary items/materials available. One time it was the new kitchen sink that was not available, the next time it was the kitchen faucet that was not available, and then another time there was a confusion about the hood fan exhaust system. This led to several reschedules of the workers that were there to install but didn't have the proper materials. 2. Mismatched colors with almost half the counter top. Which to be fair they fixed right away. 3. Better understanding of the City of Fremont permit requirements. 4. The new flooring has some high and low spots, which they still have a chance to fix. All in all I would give LU Contrustion 4.25 stars. I was pleased with 85 percent of the time. Contracted LU Construction to build a covered patio after PG&E forced us to cut down our trees. Yotam Schvartzbard was the project manager. We had 4 other estimates from other companies but went with LU because we really liked Yotam's approach. Because my in laws are in their 80's it was really important that we have someone that's patient to work with them. Yotam fit the bill. He always communicated every detail with us and yes he was very patient with my finicky and demanding in-laws. I didn't give a five star due to the fact that it took longer than we had been told and expected. I finally did a full remodeling of my bathrooms on my condo.Project manager Nofar was on point with everything. She kept me updated on every aspect of the project from day 1. She spotted broken pieces or parts from numerous items that we bought from different sites and she was on it to get them returned or replaced or refunded. I really appreciated that.I went to work every day not having to worry about anything with her on the job. I also want to mention Tal the interior designer who helped me pick out my bathroom tiles and colors and the different vanities. My bathrooms look great thanks to her knowledge and her insights. We interviewed 3 companies for the garage conversion and bathroom addition. LU construction provided is the pricing information needed to make our decision to move forward with the project, while the other companies wanted us to pay 5-10k for plans. LU estimated 2 months for the job and are only slightly behind due to city inspections. After initial were done, they had their crew here 5-7 days a week in order to complete the job prior to family holiday visits. I have to admit their have been some stressful days but every construction project has that! What we appreciate is they hear us out and provide solutions and always make things right!! We really appreciate LU Construction for building a sunroom for us. Actually we were abandoned by our ex-contractor, leaving nothing but a slab in the yard. LU heard our a story and gave us a really nice deal to build a sunroom on the slab that we already had. We signed the contract in the end of July. Next week they transferred the permit under their names, and started the work within 2 weeks. The job was done in 2 days, and we passed the inspection later. They are very efficient, and respond very quickly. The sunroom is a nice space for our little ones, and the credits goes to LU construction. read more

TLDR: LU is BEST in business. Consider them if you want high quality work delivered in time on budget! David and Joey did a phenomenal job and we highly recommend LU construction for your home addition/renovation needs. Wife and I were 5 months pregnant and wanted to add a master bedroom(closet and bathroom) as our family was growing. Ideally we wanted this project to be completed before our babies arrived! Also we were on a budget. Given these constraints, we got quotes from a bunch of construction companies listed on review websites. We picked all the top rated ones and some of them said it's impossible to deliver due to our time(winter rains) and/or budget constraints. This sounds like a build up to my review but it is indeed what happened. We had given up on our hopes our addition and thought maybe the time was not right. But then I found this GEM hidden in some of the review websites. They don't have a whole lot of reviews. But whatever they had (I read each review like 5 times and did some research to make sure these are not fake) were all good. We decided to give them a chance and spoke to Ben and David initially. Keep in mind there are a lot of horror stories about construction projects. Some that never completed. Some that got ripped off by the company and what not. I did not have a single acquaintance who had a positive experience with construction. It was really difficult to trust someone with a big chunk of our money.But going by gut feeling after having met David and all their detailed positive reviews we decided to take the leap of faith. It was also critical for us to finish on time since last thing we wanted is newborns and construction project gone wrong. Joey was assigned as the project manager to our project. As the project started taking shape my faith got stronger since each phase was delivered on time or even before time. Joey was patient enough to explain everything very clearly and thoroughly and going out of his way throughout the project to deliver. They were in "beast mode" starting from Foundation, Framing and all the way up until the finish line. There were a few minor bumps for sure but everything was promptly taken care fof. For example during the roofing, there was one weekend where it rained and caused leak into the house. However, Joey and David ensured they covered for all the damage.Also, I feel like the finish phase could have been handled a little better. But it was bad timing due to Jewish holiday during which most of LU is off. But since they were ahead of schedule it made up for the time lost. Again, there is no such thing as smooth construction project. The most important thing to us was quality of work, budget and time. They delivered a 10/10 on all 3 aspects given our tight timeline, budget and crappy weather. It has been about 2 months since completion and we are extremely happy with our addition. Like I mentioned earlier LU is a gem and definitely deserves 5 stars. I look forward to working with them in future when we are ready for another round of addition/remodeling project. We have had a positive experience with LU construction on a 500 sqft (master bedroom, bathroom, office room) addition. They were super helpful in the preliminary info gathering stages and did not pressure us to sign on. Their bid was competitive (cost, and time to complete work). They started work the very next day after we signed on with them. The project manager Ben has been pleasant to work with from day 1. He is warm, friendly, calm and has a positive attitude. He is very responsive by phone and always ready to meet in person. He picks up the phone every time I call, addresses issues promptly (within hours typically, never more than a day). LU construction has been very flexible with our requests for small changes to details in the plans, and have generally tried to deliver what we want. The construction crew is fast, competent and Julio the foreman is very experienced. They got the entire project done on time on a 3.5 month timeline. The tile guy was very detail oriented and did a great job. The painter Miguel did decent work, and was happy to go the extra mile to do little "extras" like installing curtain rods, re-painting walls where simple touch-up would be visible, re-doing floors in parts of the existing house that were affected during construction. There are a few blemishes in the flooring/doors, but nothing major. Throughout the project, we were quite confident that they would finish on time. This is a big deal, since I've heard a lot of horror stories from friends where projects took too long, or contractors abandoned them. We never felt any stress about LU completing the job on time. Whenever there were issues , Ben was quick to address them and he did everything in a very calm, friendly and positive manner. One time there was a miscommunication about covering our kitchen appliances and tenting a workspace to prevent dust from spreading. This didn't happen so a lot of our things were covered in dust. Ben responded immediately by sending over a professional cleaning crew to remedy the situation. While this situation could have been avoided, things happen, and I appreciate Ben/ LU construction's desire to make things right immediately. We did not have detailed design drawings as part of our architect's package. This meant that details like bathroom vanity placement, shower placement, mirror location, towel bars, tile selection were not specified in drawings. This created a communication gap. In the absence of design details, there were a few things we could not communicate in time or in the right manner and they got missed. E.g. bench in shower, faucet in shower stall, making appropriate space for recessed medicine cabinet. Since we didn't have 3-D detailed drawings, despite our efforts to request these they got missed. If I could do it again, I would make sure I had a 3D design with details before starting the work with LU (this is probably true for any contractor, so this is a general tip, and it's not necessarily directed specifically at LU). We also had some communication issues with the HVAC contractor (not associated with LU). There were questions about who should remedy certain ducts/vents but both teams worked well together, and LU took some things on that were not their responsibility to make things work well for us. I appreciate this. Another positive note: we some small issues with sewer lines specified in the approved plans (3 inch dia) and what the city expects according to today's code (4 inch dia). Julio's crew installed the 3 inch pipes according to the approved plans. The city inspector asked for 4 inch pipes according to current code. Ben took that change upon himself to make and absorbed the cost. I appreciated that since it was not really LU's fault. Ben pushed very hard to get the work done 10 days early when he heard my parents would be visiting. He didnt need to do this given he contractually had more time. Another example of how he does his best to meet our needs and go above and beyond if possible. Ben has been very flexible/accomodating our requests for final patch-work / minor fixes. We feel that they are doing their best to accommodate all our requests and leave us happy/satisfied with the project to the best of their abilities. Summary: Competitive price. They are very competent and reliable in getting the work done on time and according to plan. In the absence of detailed plans (3D drawings) they tried to accommodate all our requests, but we missed on a couple things. I advise having detailed plans so there is nothing left for interpretation. There are small blemishes in the flooring/doors which are very minor. They passed all inspections on essentially first shot. Ben is extremely nice to work with and accommodating. I'm happy with the end product (500 sqft room, office, bathroom) for the $$. I met with David and Shay for an initial assessment at my home. They were on time, professional, courteous and offered much detail and expertise in what was needed to complete my home rebuild/restoration. It was very refreshing, and I am very grateful. It would not have been an easy job, because I had a breach of contract (the previous contractor left me hanging - no communication in midst of job). David was willing to take over - not only that, he offered valuable expert advice about permitting process, what that entails, etc. (the previous contractor failed to obtain the permits I thought they were going to obtain PRIOR to beginning of contract work). David and Shay also provided me with names of clients - who gave me excellent reviews of their work, their professionalism, ease of communicating with them, and much more - SOLID reviews. I would have vey much liked to have been able to continue to work with them, but it wasn't meant to be this time around. If by chance I get to build my new dream home, down the road, David will be the one and only person I call (LC Construction). David showed me around their showroom (in progress), as well as a brand new home they are in process of building - all really very nice. I would say that a BIG plus is that David is willing to work with the client through A-Z. He also communicates with you to ensure that what was discussed is clear to the client, and that the client has a clear understanding of what is proposed. I really appreciate all his thoughtfulness. We contacted Lu Construction the beginning of April and they told us they would be out on April 13th. They called that same day at the time they were supposed to be at our home and stated one of their workers was in an accident and they would need to reschedule. They rescheduled us for April 18th between 6:30-7. We got a call from a female 30 minutes prior to our appt showing up and she sated if we wanted to reschedule because whoever that was supposed to meet with us was with another customer. When we stated No that we needed them to come out today, she said she would call back and see if she could send someone else out. She never returned the call but we got a call from someone stating he was one of the owners sons. He gave another excuse, different from the one we had just got from the female that had called to cancel. He did apologize and stated again that one of his guys was in an accident. While this may be true and an unfortunate event that happened twice, we really weren't buying it. He ranted for a while and gave many promises and again stated they would be out on 4/23, we decided to take the appt even though we go out on Sundays. The appt time came and again there was a no show. This was the 3rd time they didn't show up and we got no call. This last appt not only cut into family time but we could have also scheduled another contractor to come out and give us another quote. This is horrible customer service and would not recommend them. They may do nice work but they are very unprofessional and cannot even keep at appt. read more

We hired L U Construction at the begin for our 2 in a half bathrooms, I was working with their interior designer for a month; and she was very helpful with getting great products that was in our budget range. They were very informative about how the project would be done and had lots of wonderful ideas. Unfortunately we couldn't move forward with the project due some circumstances, but we're definitely happy with their service and professionalism. Without a doubt later in the future we will use this company some time down the line; David and Leo were a great help. read more

I was so pleased with the professional approach, high quality of building materials, and the quality of his various teams. What makes LU Construction stand out from its competitors for me is the Company's reputation AND the Project Manager assigned to my project. Not only is John an outstanding project manager, but he has a keen eye for design, detail, color, and architecture. He is passionate about his craft and it shows! He partnered with me to design every element of the exterior and interior of my house in real time as we went through the many project phases. And, when we found some structural issues, he thoroughly explained it to me, often several times, so that I could understand it and make an informed decision. As a project manager, he was on every detail, most often 2-3 steps ahead of me, and made things happen in a very quick time frame. His financial estimates are accurate and fair. Renovating your home is a big construction project and stressful. After a little more than 3 months he delivered on schedule and my vision became a reality! Their was one issue with one of the cabinet doors, but when I called they came out and fixed it the next day. Excellent customer service! read more

Just talking to these guys made me feel sick. As a female home owner, they would not accept the fact that I was the SOLE decision maker on the project and refused to come to the home unless my husband was home. This is discriminatory, sexist and completely unsatisfactory in today's age. Multiple times I advised that I was the sole decision maker but the sales agent refused to believe me -- down to the point where he asked me whose name was on the title of the house??! I am floored that this happened. but happy to go somewhere else where the company will take me at face value and not disregard my viewpoint because I am a female. I was left physically shaking after the call from being treated so badly. The agent just didn't believe that I was the sole decision maker. Since this post, Lu Construction called me and apologized for the service. They advised that they are an equal opportunity company, and will do better at training their sales team. I hired Lu Construction to work on my backyard in early June this year. They were referred to me by a neighbor friend that hired them and was very happy with the work and the results of the remodeling. The property was built in 2000's and the backyard was old and needed to have a real and massive makeover. The remodeling project was definitely a big one because it included a lot of features that I wanted to do and have. Before the work got started, I met several times with Ori at my house. Ori checked the back yard and took a lot of pictures and measurements of the existing space. Later on, in the 3rd meeting, Ori presented me a 3D design plan that was generated at their office and it contained how my backyard will look like. The design was excellent and in details. That gave me a clear view of what they wanted to do. I decided to make the backyard fit with the style of the house. The backyard project included all the turf grass with nice stones and BBQ area that is the main focal point of the entire space. After everything was approved and the work started, Ori took care of all the necessary paperwork with the city and he made sure that everything will be done properly. Their team of workers did arrived to the house early of each day and when they got started no one was late. I was impressed with the work ethic of all the people that were involved at my house project from Lu Construction. This proved me that this company is one of the best construction companies around. By having each day workers working at the house, it was very fast before I could see how the backyard is coming into new life and I was excited to see how it was all being put together. When they finished the remodeling, they made sure that everything was cleaned up and the space is ready to be use. I was extremely pleased with their work, and am finally proud to have friends come over and hang out in my backyard. read more

I've been looking to get both bathrooms in my house remodeled for years and we excited when LU was recommended to me by a friend. We had a half bath and full bath redone with John as our project manager. This included upgrading counters, installing tile, installing new fixtures, constructing a new shower, and installing a new bathtub. They did an excellent job of designing them and helping select materials and colors. Their various craftsmen were courteous and thorough. read more
