Immediately upon entering, I was greeted by the goodest of girls. She later took a seat on her couch and watched me sip on my latte. The dirty chai latte was flavorful and caffeine packed, just how I like it. They had locally made pastries, I had the berry muffin, and took a homemade "twinky" to go. Tacoma has so many great coffee spots. We have visited a ton. And it took a while for us to grove out our favorite spots. I have fond memories of some coffee spots I loved, but don't visit much. When we moved here we use to grab coffee by the pound at one spot and I loved going there, but man if you order coffee there it takes forever. The beans are still great and worth grabbing every once in a while, but they are a bit pricey and its a hassle because its a slower experience and they are busy. We found another spot that when they opened we loved going to, but then the quality started slipping and the price of beans rose and we decided it wasn't for us. Now they are sadly closing. Its a bummer, but honestly we had already moved on. Now we have two options. One by the water and the other is Lux. I absolutely love Lux. The best part for me is its up the road. No exaggeration. I can walk there in less then 10 minutes. The coffee is great. I usually only get drip. I am a simple man. I love their drip, but I also really like their espresso. Some places a pull of espresso is so bitter and so sour or super burnt. Lux is smooth and full of flavor, without that overly acidic punch. Its a beautiful cup. My wife loves the Mayan choc mocha. I dont drink mochas because they are often too sweet for me. Not here, they are balanced and delicious. I highly recommend and cannot recommend enough. Plus I believe they have spilled butter deserts. Grab a few for sure. They are worth it. read more

I am convinced Washington state is the Cafe capital of the world. Sorry Paris, step aside. This one is for the USA! We were on our way to the mountains when we made a stop at Lux Coffee for a quick pick me up. The decor/design was so inviting, we just had to go in. The menu is typical for a quick coffee fix, but the pastries are the star of this show. We got the raspberry cheesecake and devoured it within minutes. It's not everyday that you can find desserts in the USA that don't give you diabetes from all the extra added sugar. The coffees were alright. We had the cappuccino and macchiato. Service was great! The barista was friendly, quick and efficient. By the time we got in, a queue started to form, but the barista was quick to get the drinks out. Highly recommend! Till next time. read more

I was recommended Lux as a place to find zines, but I left finding a new place to haunt on the weekends! This coffee spot is cool as hell and the doggo is cute as can be. I got a chocolate dipped macaroon that was honestly light as air and UNREAL. My kid got a brownie that was thick and gooey and delicious. Can't wait to go back and spend some time there. read more

I wish I didn't live in Seattle because of this place! I'm rarely in Tacoma, but today I had the opportunity to walk in and work from Lux Coffee. And it was such a treat. The vibes were immaculate. Local art, clean floors and tables, clean bathroom, and great music. The owner, I assume, was working the front counter and making drinks. He was super sweet and kind. Made my drink quick and delicious. Plus his dog was the cutest!! The public wifi and accessible outlets were great for a focused work session. Lux did not disappoint with its amazing coffee. The vibe inside is very chill and relax. The gal over the counter was super sweet and informative. I asked if they had sugar free syrups, and they have many options such as vanilla, caramel, white chocolate, hazelnut, and a couple more options. Yummy looking pastries are present for purchase too. I just ordered a 16oz sugar free vanilla latte. It was delicious! That great jolt of caffeine hit right in the beginning with the sweat foamy milk over taking your taste buds at the end. There are a few tables and chairs inside with neighborhood posts and events pinned on the wall. It's really cool how people can come together for the community. This is street parking only, but it's very spacious. I'm sure you'll be able to find a parking spot no problem. Great coffee here! read more

Justin and staff are very welcoming/friendly, treating you more like an old friend than a customer, the coffee is flavor packed, rich, and bold, and the atmosphere is so inviting you feel like you could stay for hours. They offer a variety of local baked goods, artwork, and other fun goodies as well. Great, new coffee shop that is open in a neighborhood that could really use one! This kind of coffee shop as Steve mentioned when we were here of the "old Seattle " that we first became familiar with. The place has some art made by local artists and there is just a hint of a funky vibe here that just makes it fun. The coffee is good... how can it not be? The beans are roasted by Manifesto Coffee which is a "go to" place for us every weekend. I have been on a big iced vanilla latte kick as I often am in the summer and loved the one I ordered here. I'm super excited to come back and love having the realization of a coffee shop we can really enjoy is not too far from where we live at all! read more

This is a nice spot with a vibe of its own. We ordered an Oat Milk Maple latte (with 2% milk), another drink, a cookie, and two cakes. It was very good, all of it. We also purchased their little booklets to learn what we don't know about Tacoma. The proceeds benefit some organization - I can't remember which one, and I don't have the booklets with me right now. Lux is a welcome addition to this area of Tacoma, which is seriously lacking in good espresso. They have all the typical coffee drinks--I'm a plain latte with full-fat milk kind of guy. The lattes here are on point. There is now food here from Happy Belly (a local tacoma joint) and they feature coffee from Manifesto, and elite espresso slinger also from Tacoma. My favorite thing is when restaurants source locally for the food or drinks. Lux is killin it. read more

I WANT to continue to support this shop, but am having a hard time after my latest visit! The drink I ordered was tasty, and service was fine enough. The place is filthy though! Sticky tables not being wiped down between patrons, needed to warm my treat up with the microwave and ended up not because of how dirty it was. Used the restroom and the garbage was nearly full. Went to put my dish away and the bin was just heaping with dirty dishes. Between customers, the employee was just working/playing on a computer rather than attending to anything in the shop. I thought maybe we just had a lazy employee working that day, but I was especially shocked when I overheard the barista mention to a customer that he was the OWNER! I would say it's not time to lose sight of cleanliness, especially with new competitors a few doors down. read more

Nick at Lux Coffee is a legendary barista. They have amazing customer service and do an incredible job of curating the perfect local coffee shop experience. I ordered an english breakfast tea and mentioned I wasn't a fan of earl gray because of past experience with a gross blend. Nick made me an amazing iced tea, checked on our table, and surprised me with a London fog to try during my visit. I'm so glad Nick offered a sample to me because it was wonderful! So understand everyone's tastes differ when it comes to coffee, but being a former barista and avid coffee drinker you get to know a few things, that being said I ordered a hot 120z lavender mocha and substituted white chocolate as it is sweeter than traditional chocolate. As I waited for my coffee I wandered around the tiny shop, super cute place with local artwork for sale on the walls when I got my mocha it was super bitter to the taste like burnt coffee mixed with dandelion, no hint of sweet white chocolate ... when I brought this to the attention of the barista she just shrugged and said "we use lavender bitters" , no offer to fix it ( and mind you even if that's the case a well made coffee should still taste good) so i asked if she could maybe add Carmel ( to mask the taste, still amazed at her lack of customer service or any emotion at all for that matter) she put the Tiniest squeeze of Carmel on top of the whipped cream and handed it back to me... smh ‍ I just took my yucky mocha and left a dissatisfied first time customer, which is really sad from a business stand point, because unfortunately I won't be back and I won't be recommending what could've become my favorite new little coffee spot read more
